King Charles & Harry’s ‘peace talks’ were nothing more than a soap opera storyline

All week, I’ve been trying to sort through the very strange story of Prince Harry and King Charles holding “peace talks” in September and all of the adjacent rumors around that story. Let me be clear: I do not believe Harry and his father will meet, nor do I believe that the palace reached out to Harry in any way. But it was curious to watch as this story went from “a random rumor in a lower-tier British tabloid” to “Prince William is absolutely furious and he would never meet with Harry, even though he was never even part of the ‘peace talks’ rumor in the first place.” They’ve brought Meghan into it too, because of course the Windsors are making a point of not inviting Meg to this utterly hypothetical peace summit. So what was all of this about? Please allow this random publicist to explain it perfectly:

Don’t look for things to warm up between HRH and the erstwhile Duke of Sussex anytime soon, says one royal expert — not even after recently announced “peace talks,” set to go down next month.

Publicist Matt Yanofsky told the Mirror that the so-called summit seems to be more a PR move than a genuine meeting, and to expect little more than just another episode in the royal family’s dramatic “soap opera.”

“Only the men in that room know what will happen, but from a public relations standpoint, the royal family depends on storylines to stay in the news, especially when the public’s approval of the royals is in decline,” Yanofsky explained.

“This is another story point … which is great for the entire family [and the viewers at home],” he continued.

[From The NY Post]

Please, this is absolutely the truth. The palace wanted a late summer storyline, a distraction from the shambles of William and Kate’s marriage, a distraction from William’s utter laziness and incompetence and a distraction from the public’s general loathing of Charles and Camilla. Ta-daa, here’s a new soap opera storyline! Only it feels more pointed than that, right? Once William reacted the way he did (with rage), it felt like this was a Buckingham Palace leak with a purpose: Charles continuing to show that the estrangement is between his sons and not between father and spare. Anyway, I love that this publicist guy is basically like: the Windsors are drama queens feeding their media handlers with dumbf–k soap opera storylines. The dude spilled!

  1. How kardashian of the royals with this soap opera. If they think it’s a good look it’s not. I guess the royal cult thinks that any news good or bad( mostly bad ) is good for them. Whoever wrote this piece will now be harassed by the royal fans about this.

“This is another story point … which is great for the entire family [and the viewers at home],” he continued”….

This is profoundly sad/pathetic. How can this absolute gaslighting/manipulation of their public be a good thing? Geezus.

  2. Lucy says:

How bored is the press that they’re making up rumors, squeezing a week and a reply out of William, and then reporting that the rumors were made up? You’d think there was plenty of actual shit to report on or investigate. Charles cash bags, Prince Andrew, where are the Wales, who are the Wales, why are the Wales.

  3. Becks1 says:

That tracks, lol. And its true, the royals need storylines to stay in the press so they try to control those storylines when possible.

and i agree that this one had a purpose – it was a leak from BP to emphasize that Charles is not the problem, William is, and honestly, William played right into Charles’ hands with the tantrum to the Daily Beast.

now we all know Charles is part of the problem, its not just William, but Charles is trying to make the point that it IS just william *right now* which is interesting.

    • Jais says:

@becks1, Charles trying to make that point is interesting and it always makes me wonder how much Charles is actually being the problem. Throwing William under the bus and making it out like he wants peace when he’s the one that evicted the Sussexes. Who knows what sketchy things are going on behind the scenes.

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah, its weird. I think Charles is petty and vindictive and I think that’s where frogmore came from, and there’s been a few other things where we have seen that behavior from him as it relates to H&M.

But there’s also always been this kind of veneer of “charles wants peace,”right? Like Charles at least knows on some level that being in open war with Harry isn’t a good look, he needs to at least pretend he wants peace. Now I said the other day that Charles’ version of peace isn’t what Harry thinks of as “peace” or what most of us would consider “peace,” but he still knows enough to put it out there, even if its completely false and he never wants to talk to Harry again.

William on the other hand has no issues being in open war with Harry, pushing the idea that he will never forgive him, etc.

    • Eurydice says:

Is it weird that it’s in the NY Post ahead of William’s trip to NY?

      • Becks1 says:

Weird but pointed, maybe? Like this is a pointed reminder to americans that the windsors manufacture things to be more relevant.

    • Gabby says:

So Chuckles just proved he’s slightly smarter than William. So is the bird that just flew into my window.

  4. YeahRight says:

Anyone who is familiar with their playbook knew once Willy got bad press they would make up a Harry story. What’s the best way to distract from Willy bring up Harry.

  5. Mslove says:

Chuck wants the plebes to think he’s trying to reconcile with the good son while in reality he’s having a lackey count all of his big bags of cash some gullible fool gave him for “honors.”

  6. ThatsNotOkay says:

Ignorance is truth. Freedom is slavery. War is peace. Tabloids are news.

  7. aquarius64 says:

Thanks PR guy for practically verifying what was written in Spare.

  8. Jais says:

No lies detected. Wish more PR people would state the obvious. The Windsors fed the press this story because they need to keep up the soap opera storylines.

  9. Lady Digby says:

At last a Royal story we can all believe! As everyone knew, as is now standard from the RF, it’s all words not deeds.

“Well, we did try, honestly. The King did think about asking Harry over for a chat and that’s just as good as actually doing it, isn’t it?”

And why should this worry William anyway? Isn’t he the world’s most popular guy? Doesn’t he believe his own polls!

  10. Eurydice says:

Another Murdoch story making a dig at the RF and in a US publication. Not sure this is the PR the royal family wants.

  11. Amy Bee says:

The press doesn’t even realise that this PR guy knows the games that they and the Palace are playing. The press threw out this story because they want these peace talks to happen. The Palace let the press run with story because of the press can profit from these types of stories and leaves them alone.

  12. Laura D says:

” especially when the public’s approval of the royals is in decline,”

Gosh that’s the first time I’ve seen that in print for a long time. So, much for all those polls telling us how popular the royals are. The secret weapons (Anne, Sophie, Tindall and Kate) are so secret that they’re not having the desired affect. The leaks and smear campaigns against H&M is doing very little to take away from the BRF not being value for money. People are beginning to question what are we paying our royals to actually do? Especially, when both the King and Queen of Spain (who cost a fraction of what the BRF are paid) were seen on our TV screens enjoying supporting their sports stars.

  13. Sunshine says:

Only the “MEN” in the room…….

    • QuiteContrary says:

Yeah, that jumped out at me, too. And it’s sadly the truth, because it’s still the 16th century inside the palaces.

  14. Yesgirl says:

This is telling telling. They even know that they are boring and stories need revolve around attaching themselves to Harry and Meg. While Harry is out playing polo for charity in Singapore William is hiding in the rose bushes from anyone asking him to do anything. While Meg is getting ready for travel to Germany for the Invictus games Kate is going to look sad around London for the Queens death after one year. While Harry is going to an honor his patronage for an event in the UK the Burger King Chuck is leaking stories to the press about snubbing Harry and no one trusts Meg. Harry and Meg have moved on and moved on permanently it seems. William effed up with the World Cup and threw the king under the bus in plain sight but all they seem to do is try to bring the story line back to H and M to make them seem relevant. Old boring stories about snubbing, peace talks, the spare, netflix and property that came and went and H and M still stand tall. Now they have nothing and it shows more then ever that the Windsors don’t want to move on from H and M.

  15. Teagirl says:

These so-called journalists have a poor grasp of English. Erstwhile means former. Harry is still the duke of Sussex, much to certain people’s chagrin.

  16. Lizzie says:

Just like every ‘olive branch’ has been a fairytale.

  17. RYNTHIA says:

Charles and Camilla with abolish the monarchy so that Diana’s heir will not take the throne. They are cashing out and setting up their offshore accounts and they have no intention of letting William and his in laws take up residence and have relevance after Charles dies. Camilla knows William will disrespect her like the Queen did so if the Queen thought she preserved the monarchy she didn’t. Charles is burning it down and turning out the lights when he leaves.

  18. Saucy&Sassy says:

The NY Post? I have no idea how large their readership is, but what I like most about this article is that more Americans will see that the brf and bm spin fairytales about H&M. The credible American media sees this, too. I find that really surprising. Is someone finally realizing that the UK tabloids don’t hit in the US the same way? Or do they think that if they tell the truth once, people will believe what else they write? Maybe they want the MAGA Sussex derangers to click and comment.

We may want to mark the date down. This may be the only time they tell the truth.

  19. AC says:

@saucy&sassy – yes, I think the US public for the most part realizes the BRF and BM is the root cause of all the Toxicity in that environment. And starting to realize why HM left . Esp now that Suits is breaking streaming records, I’ve seen lot of comments on Twitter who has been watching the show, and questioning why the heck do they hate her . Their propaganda may work in their home country but here in the US people are now questioning the BRF motives. Esp it’s the BRF and BP that keeps bringing HM and just doesn’t Shut UP!

Btw.. HM really stand out in the family photo above 😀

Royal reporting is taking a dark turn, innit.
