Scobie: Prince William was ‘furious’ about the Rose Hanbury story in 2019

In March 2019, The Sun published Dan Wootton’s infamous “rural rival” story, about then-Duchess Kate trying to “phase out” her rural rival Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholomondeley. The first story was carefully worded, leaving just enough space to allow people to insinuate that the beef between Rose and Kate was about a rumored/alleged affair between William and Rose. The follow-up reporting spelled it out, although that report of “private dinners” between William and Kate was soon wiped from the internet. Tom Parker Bowles’ BFF Giles Coren even tweeted out a confirmation about the affair, and by April, Kensington Palace had sent out legal warnings to most British papers, all in a desperate attempt to contain the story. I still believe that Prince Harry’s story, in Spare, about William’s temper tantrum in April of that year, was all about the Rose story (and William blamed Camilla for the story leaking out).

Well, Omid Scobie covers the Rose Hanbury rumors in Endgame. He doesn’t have confirmation of an affair either way, but he does say that the British media was abuzz with insider details and Kensington Palace was fully panicking. He also spells out the “deal” William’s office apparently worked out – to blatantly bury the affair story, William sold out Harry and Meghan at every turn.

Unsubstantiated rumours about the Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage erupted online – prompting a ‘furious’ Prince William to resolutely deny them.

The gossip started when a story broke in 2019 claiming that Kate had had a ‘terrible falling out’ with friend and neighbour, Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. “They used to be close, but that is not the case anymore,” the report read according to an explosive new book by royal writer Omid Scobie. Kate, it was claimed, had apparently instructed William to ‘phase her out’.

According to the book, reports alleged that Rose had ‘one or two suppers with William in Norfolk while Kate was away’ – but purely as ‘platonic friends’. “But it was hardly as if they were meeting behind Kate’s back – of course she knew they were getting together. And Kate was grateful that a good friend and neighbour like Rose was there to entertain William.”

Rival reports hit back, insisting that the fall-out talk was false and merely ‘aristocratic dinner party gossip’, and that William actually ‘bears all the hallmarks of a contented man,’ thanks to his marriage.

Scobie makes it clear that there was never any evidence found to back up the wild allegations, and Christian Jones, head of communications at Kensington Palace, asked William if they were true – and was met with short shrift.

“William, he said, was furious when the question came up and vehemently said it was not true,” Scobie writes. For Kate’s part, although she is said to have been ‘uncomfortable’ with the talk, she ignored it. However, a friend of the Prince of Wales is quoted as telling the author: “Dealing with nasty, untrue rumours… wouldn’t you be filled with rage? It’s been very difficult for him, and for Kate. But I truly believe these things make you stronger.”

[From The Daily Mirror]

What Scobie did in this section was really interesting – he basically just re-reported everything which had been buried and erased from the online archives, added some new information about Christian Jones’s panic (Jones was William’s press secretary at the time) and then put the whole thing in the larger framework of William blatantly throwing the Sussexes under the bus, all to save his own ass. Anyway, I’ve always believed that Rose was the one who leaked the initial story, and I also believe that there were widespread rumors about the affair in aristo circles. I think Rose was putting Kate in her place more than anything else, although it would not surprise me at all if Camilla was also behind some of it.

  1. Thelma says:

Rose Hanbury is beautiful. I’ve always wondered why that first picture of her at the event they hosted makes her look so bad. By the way the IG account of their home and gardens is gorgeous.

    • Cathy says:

I’ve always suspected that Rose looks not herself in that top photo because Kate has just said something unpleasant to her. Rose looks shocked but Kate is smirking and looking very pleased.

      • Megan says:

I’ve always suspected she took a sip from the glass she is holding and didn’t like it. She has that bad wine pucker.

    • Miranda says:

She’s beautiful in a very aristocratic way. And I don’t mean that as an insult, like, “she’s OK for an inbred aristocrat”! I mean, if I were reading some Regency romance novel and a duchess or marchioness or whatever was described as “beautiful”, I would picture someone like Rose Hanbury.

      • L84Tea says:

The thing I’ve always found striking about these particular photos is the way that they so clearly illustrate that Rose gets it and Kate does not. When you look at the two of them together, their differences stand out enormously. Kate looks perfectly polished–not a hair out of place, all in soft pink, tidy little clutch in hand, massive diamond bracelet on her wrist. Rose on the other hand looks completely joie de vivre–whimsical gown, hair looking like she just threw some of it up in a clip and went with it, a little more carefree. Kate looks like gauche new money while Rose emanates old, aristocratic, dog hair on the furniture money–the kind of woman Kate desperately wants to be, but will never be.

    • B says:

If William can pay to photoshop Kate he can pay to photoshop Rose.

    • Nic919 says:

That photo with Kate’s smirk was clearly chosen with someone sympathetic to her because rose looks much better is so many other photos. And if we look at both of them today, Rose is not the one looking tired and with wonky hyena grins. She can look good without an open mouth.

    • QuiteContrary says:

She is practically chinless! I think she’s interesting-looking, but not beautiful.

      (And Kate is just ordinary.)

      • Cairidh says:

You can’t tell what anyone really looks like from a photo. My mother met princess Anne in the 70s and said in photos (even then) she was horsey looking but in real life she was absolutely beautiful. “Damn fine looking woman”.

Everyone who meets Drew Barrymore says they got a big surprise because she’s stunningly beautiful in real life. But it never shows in the photos.

If you look at photos of Rose Hanbury when she was young and working as a model, there are some photos where she looks beautiful. She may well still be in real life.

      • Amarie says:

I agree! She would be beautiful if she only had a chin. And I side eye her taste in men, but she probably is /was just in it for grins and giggles.

      • Missskitttin says:

Yes I agree. I kind of like a chin.

  2. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

A bit of a mistake, first paragraph, mid-way down “private dinners” between William and Kate”, should be “between William and Rose”. 😃

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Harla A Brazen Hussy, I was looking for this from the article, when I realized it is something that Kaiser wrote. I didn’t notice that the first time through.

  3. Nubia says:

I dont think Rose would leak that and jeopordise her husbands position. Plus arent aristo mistresses sworn to a crazy code of silebce!?

    • Jais says:

Isn’t his position hereditary though? It wouldn’t be jeopardized. Awkward maybe but not jeopardized.

    • Becks1 says:

his position is hereditary so its not in any jeopardy. And while it rotates (so hes not great lord chamberlain currently), his son was a page at the coronation and he was named……something. Lord of the Household? I cant remember. So neither he nor Rose nor their children are isolated at all as a result of these rumors.

    • Nic919 says:

It was likely an open secret because I am sure they all know the nature of her marriage with David, who spends time in Paris. That said I think it was Tom Parker Bowles who kept Camilla informed and she deployed this in 2019 to remind William of what she knows and who she knows.

It’s hilarious to pretend that Kate just ignored it. Maybe her obsession with Meghan was her priority but she channeled her anger toward Meghan because of this affair and had done so frankly since 2018 when the bridesmaid dress fit happened. More than one source said Kate learned of the affair in 2018, around the time of H and M’s wedding.

The attacks against from the family started right after the Oceania tour ended in autumn 2018 and even Carole Middleton jumped in. That the rose story came out in spring 2019 was Camilla checking William and Kate who were riding high with the attacks on Meghan and perhaps Harry. Camilla and Charles were not benefitting as much from these attacks.

    • Sunday says:

Not so much because of jeopardizing her husband’s position and moreso because a true aristo like Rose would never go to the British tabloids to compete with Kate, it would be considered completely beneath her. She may give some off the record shade to the socialite friend of an editor at Tatler, who would weave it snarkily into some obvious puff piece on Kate, but she would never have leaked this to the press.

I would fully believe Camilla did it to knock Will and Kate down a peg (LOL) because this was about the time KP started the “shouldn’t we just skip Charles?” whisper campaign. I would also believe it was Kate or Carole thinking they could get Will to stop rose gardening if he feared exposure except the whole thing backfired, but there’s no way Rose would willingly get in the mud with these pigs and implicate herself along the way.

      • Lulu says:

According to Spare, it was definitely Camilla and Charles. Harry all but spells it out when he said William called a private meeting with the 2 men to air them out because of the cheating rumors. Camilla wouldn’t have been there because they don’t handle serious matters with women in that family but I believe Charles has Camilla do his dirty work.
Also, all of these British Aristo women look exactly the same to me. Jecca, Rose, Kate, Isabella etc… incredibly skinny, limp hair, dour expressions, and bad style. Don’t let your hate for Kate fool you; Rose is no different than her. Any young woman that marries a geriatric aristo who is rumored to be gay isn’t that great a girl and is probably just as conniving as the rest of these clowns.

      • Sunday says:

@Lulu Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m under no illusions that Rose is some great girl. But she is an aristo and 100% thinks of herself (and is thought of in their circles) as better than Kate, and lowering herself to tussle with a commoner (which Kate is to them, and a try-hard one at that which is even worse) using sleazy British rags is Simply Not Done (in a way that can be traced back to you).

IDK, someone in such aristocratic standing as Rose Hanbury just seems like they would honestly have a better plan than to intentially implicate themselves in a public scandal. You’re 100% right, she absolutely is as conniving as the rest of these clowns, if not more, which is why I don’t buy that she’d start a tabloid tit-for-tat with Kate Middleton of all people. She’d have some weird, obscure, classist and possibly faintly racist old aristo way of dealing with it if she wanted to, like serving her a 2-yolked egg at a society brunch or making sure she’s the only one with brightly polished silverware at dinner or something.

      • Chicken says:

I know he’s not a spring chicken, but I’d hardly call Rocksavage geriatric! I find him attractive, and I’m the same age as Rose.

    • Harper says:

Definitely Camilla, with her son’s friend Giles Coren chiming in so quickly that of course it’s an affair and everyone knew about it. Then being forced to delete the damaging but still to this day infamous tweet. Camilla had to be laughing behind the scenes watching Burger King scramble. I can totally see her scheming, if Willy thinks he’s so fit to be king let’s see how he handles a personal scandal. There had to be some simmering resentment on Camilla’s end to see William so protected as a family man while knowing that image was a front. How did William handle it? By issuing injunctions and throwing his sister in law to the wolves to distract the peasants, thus leading to Harry and Meghan’s exit from the family. A disaster.

      • Cairidh says:

There was no need for camilla or anyone else to leak it to the press. The media always know when royals are having affairs. The nearest staff and bodyguards always know. They talk to the staff from all the other royal residences who meet up occasionally. The bodyguards talk to each other. (Prince Andrew once said he doesn’t talk to Charles but his bodyguard talks to Charles bodyguard and news get passed on that way).
Royal affairs are always open secrets with a large number of people knowing. The staff and bodyguards tell the other Royals. Sooner or later someone – royal or staff – tells a Lady in waiting. They’re all aristocrats. They spread it round the aristocracy.
Once the aristocracy know the media inevitably find out because there are upperclass people (descended from titled people) who are journalists or married to them or friends with them. The journalists who mix in those circles find out, and can’t resist spreading it round the rest of the journalists.

Apart from that MI5 always know because they spy on the royals. They bugged Princess Michael of Kent during her affair, and she was only a minor Royal. If they monitored her, they would certainly monitor the Heir. The KGB bugged Princess Margaret when she was younger, hoping to gather compromising material to use against Britain. If they’d spy on her, foreign agencies would certainly spy on William.

      • Cairidh says:

Besides which, William when he was a teenager was caught with a girl in a field by a farmer. If he’s still into outdoor recreation, he could easily have been seen by a journalist. As he was before, on the balcony with Kate, when her nude photos were taken. (Along with others which were worse….).

Both Charles and Princess Alexandra were photographed in flagrante outside at Balmoral (not together…).

    • Tisme says:

Yes…I am confused how it would benefit Rose, if she leaked it?

      • Becks1 says:

It’s not so much that it would benefit her but it would not hurt her. She doesnt care if people know she’s sleeping with William. I’m sure her IG followers increased, etc. I could see her leaking it in a “oh that poor sad thing” (referring to Kate) kind of way and then moving on and never thinking about it again.

I also like the theory that it was Camilla who gave the go ahead to her son to leak it, but i dont think he would have gone to Dan Wootton.

  4. Amy Bee says:

It’s obvious that the Rose Hanbury rumours were part of the reason why William decided to play ball with the press.

  5. SueBarbri33 says:

I’m more than ever convinced that William is also shagging the husband. Or something. Especially in light of the fact that the only casual/candid photo of Kate we saw this summer was of (a slightly stoned looking) Kate hanging out at their big festival or whatever that was. Something strange is going on here. I understand that aristos are different than the rest of us, but surely whomever is running the KP PR should understand that the RF’s main audience and support doesn’t consist of aristos.

    • Miranda says:

I could absolutely see William being bi, and that being one of the deep dark secrets that made him sell his soul. Definitely.

      • Bettyrose says:

That does make sense. If Wills and the Chumlys are a triad. And Kate is relegated to her Windsor cottage. I also buy the theory that Cam leaked the Rose story. She has every reason to want Kate reigned in. Cam probably doesn’t envision there ever being a time that she’s a dowager and Kate is QC.

    • Alice says:

Me too. I think the affair was between David and William and Rose was a smokescreen.

    • notasugarhere says:

William shagging David wouldn’t be ‘the truth about William that would make your eyes bleed’ as one reporter wrote.

    • EasternViolet says:

This is also my tin foil hat theory. The Rose/William affair is not true, but its a cover for the William/David relationship. There was an article , maybe it was by Dan Wooton, I can’t remember but it was very gossipy and written for an aristo-audience. It frequently insinuated that William was either gay or bi. (Mostly by talking about his odd gestures)

      • uhmmmm says:

So LGBTQ+ people have “odd gestures?” That’s not homophobic to say at all.

      • EasternViolet says:

I was referencing the article, hoping it would stir someone’s memory. I’m not defending the statement, it just really stuck out of the article as very homophobic -and a way of outing an individual.

  6. Pinkosaurus says:

I’ve always wondered if Rose was just the coverup and Angry Bill had a little thing going with her husband? William hates anything he can’t control but given the constant “he’s a hunk, all Americans think so!” coverage lately, I just don’t see what about this story caused such rage and angst.

    • TOM says:

Co-signing. Rose is the beard. Her husband is the lover.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I have always thought the exact same thing: David Rocksavage is the lover.

      • NotSoSocialB says:

        @BayTampaBay-

That name alone is pr0n star worthy.

      • Steph says:

        Lol @notsosocialb 😆😆 completely agree

      • Renae says:

Name right out of the Flintstones….but a porn version.

      • bettyrose says:

I’m getting more and more won over to this theory, but there’s a piece I don’t get. I mean, if William is bi or if Mr. Rocksavage is his first male lover (and I’d hit it just for the name, TBH), I get it. But I can’t see William having been closeted this entire time because he cheated on Kate so publicly with other women, a couple of whom he seemed to have a real affinity for. If William is gay and keeping up appearances, Kate would have been an amazing beard for him. Why all the other women?

(I also really don’t get why Kate doesn’t play the aristo game and take lovers of her own.)

  7. Lorelei says:

William ‘bears all the hallmarks of a contented man,’

LMFAOOOOO okay, whatever you say, anonymous friend.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Which is why he flies into rages, assaults his brother and throws things at his wife. He’s so content!

  8. Well he worked around that in opening it up again. He covered his ass here but I believe there was an affair. If it was just dinners and Can’t was ok about it why would she ask to phase Rose out? I do believe that Horsilla leaked it. She needs some control over the future king after all. She has him by the short curlies.

  9. Jais says:

So basically William made a deal with the devil, the BM, when he had previously kept them off-side, all over nothing, rumors that weren’t even true? We’re supposed to believe it was all over nothing? Okaaaay.

  10. Taytanish says:

I also read a rumor that claimed that William affair was NOT with Rose but with David the marquess of Cholmondely. It’s also possible that William was having affair(s) with the both of them, I put nothing past that man, he likes to play for both teams.

  11. Becks1 says:

I wonder what Kate did to tick Rose off. Like I always figured it was just the phasing out – that Kate really did try to act like she had social power in Norfolk – but I wonder if it was something more, like Kate actually confronting Rose about the affair or something. At this point I definitely think it was Rose who leaked it or authorized its leaking, it sounds like it was the worst kept secret in Norfolk.

I’m LOLing at the image of Christian Jones having to ask William if it was true.

    • Lady Digby says:

Did Kate square up to her like she did with Meghan in public? KM is no shrinking violet and I bet she had plenty to say to both Rose and hubbie at the time. I have never bought KM’s little girl act, she has a core of steel and no problem about confrontations. All her marital rows aren’t just about George’s schooling!

      • Eliora says:

I agree with you, Kate is very cunning. Even if her social climbing family was pushing her to bag a prince, nobody could have lasted ten years with William and be the last woman standing if she didn’t know how to play real dirty.

Kate is an idiot because she clearly lacks intellectual curiosity, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t clever. A lot of people underestimate Kate because of the little girl image the media has foisted onto her (that she gladly plays into). The British media infantalizes Kate because they know who she really is and they don’t like it.

    • BayTampaBay says:

“I wonder what Kate did to tick Rose off.”

Kate did not want to do any work but wanted to take credit for charity work done locally in East Anglia. Neither the “Turnip Toff” aristos or the “London Set” aristos care for Wiggington.

I doubt the ‘Badminton Set” aristos care for Wigs either.

      • Jais says:

From what we can tell, rose does a lot of work with Houghton hall, the art installations, the festival and her charity work. Rose not appreciating kate taking credit for her work makes sense.

      • Truthiness says:

I’m too late for people to read this but to answer the question: Kate demanded that Will freeze out Rose. Potentially to remove her from the Turnip Toff set. Jokes on her, the Turnip Toffs would sooner jettison Kate than Rose, the hard working doyenne of Houghton Hall.

    • ShazBot says:

Well whatever it was, she wasn’t okay with it and she disappeared for like 6 weeks when the story came out and could only be coaxed back out with fresh veneers, new diamonds, and…finally, after 8 years of marriage and 3 kids, her Royal Family Order.

      • Nic919 says:

I’m going to be a bit pedantic on this but she got the family order in 2018 prior to the diplomatic reception ( although they pretend she was given it in 2017 but somehow no one had pictures of if for the reception in 2017). And she only got it then because Meghan was now in the family and Kate had to have it before her.

She did however get the Victorian order which comes with a sash, because of this affair made public and her hiding out for weeks.

      • ShazBot says:

Thank you Nic! I knew she got an order for it, but it makes sense she would have gotten the first when Meghan came on the scene.

    • Jaded says:

Kate strikes me as a clandestine back-stabber and probably tried to get the toffs on her side as advocates for her outrage, but that landed like a lead balloon and the whole lot of them turned against her. Divide and conquer did NOT work well for old Katie and she learned a hard lesson — don’t think that by virtue of being married to the heir it gives her more clout. They circled their wagons against her.

  12. Eliora says:

Why does everyone describe William as being filled with rage. Not just Scobie, William’s own friends and his sycophantic media pals are always going on and on about his rage. William sounds like a horrible human being to be around. Like who is that angry so often that it becomes their only personality trait. How violent and repugnant.

The Rose story is funny because who cares. Wealthy man has an affair is hardly a show stopper. William dangling an idiot Kate Middleton for 10 years is more damaging than an affair with Rose. Imagine obsessed Kate must be the one who wants to clear the air.

  13. SALADSPINNER says:

I think William had an unreciprocated thing for Rose. He went over to her house a couple of times, and they watched TV in her basement or whatever, and then he got drunk and told everyone he knew (including Kate) that he was into her and going for it, and the spies dully reported back, and there you have it.

    • notasugarhere says:

LOL, no. When her brother was telling tales about it in local pubs, you know there was shagging going on. With Rose, possibly with David, possibly with Marina. And Rose and Rocksavage agreeing to let William use Houghton for any of his other affairs, as the Van Cutsems did for Charles&Camilla at Anmer Hall.

      • Sunday says:

I forgot her brother was allegedlky telling tales all over town. Doesn’t that sound strange to you? Like, this is the only rumor that the toffs have let slip in years, and it’s all this and only this but there’s still no proof? IDK, that sounds even more like a planted coverup to me.

IDK if Will and David were a thing, but I do know that all this abstract specificity about Rose really seems weird.

      • Interested Gawker says:

        “possibly with Marina…”

Yes… There were a few strangely worded stories about a ‘royal baby’ and Rose being no stranger to wild goings on in her family floating about that seemed like taunts by a muzzled press as well as the trajectory of gleeful gossip bandied about this situation among the toffs themselves publicly acknowledged as being ‘a known thing’. Whatever the truth of the matter it’s clear William was terrified of the details being made public – no one gets a super injunction for ‘no reason’ and Kate was too ignorant of her social position to stop herself trying to pull rank over Rose and got slapped down back to her place.

Sunday – Yes! And that church walk was so strange. The Rocksavages just took one for the team and stayed silent. The only tweak of rebellion was Ross trolling Kate with the shoes at the coronation.

      • Interested Gawker says:

        Er, “ROSE trolling Kate…”

  14. aquarius64 says:

If Rocksavage is really William’s side dude I can see why William made a deal with the press. The affair blows up the Wales happy family image and George’s, Charlotte, and Louis’ paternity could be questioned, affecting the line of succession. True gay and bisexual men can father children, but if the BM can cast aspersions on Harry’s royal parentage because of Diana’s affair with James Hewitt, what would stop them to go after the Wales kids this way, besides loss of profits from no Sussex news.

  15. Over it says:

I think wank had a thing going with both rose and her husband. Hence Kate fury . She was use to him being with other women but then add in a man and she lost her sh-it because how can she compete with that ?

    • Jaded says:

That could very well be — maybe some group sex thing.

      • Mary Pester says:

@Jais, yep, hard agree, plus EVERYONE knew about William and Rose and Alex Tiffin wrote about it and was threatened, you can still find it on Google, but Alex actually wrote, that he “wouldn’t be going out alone for a while”. What does that tell you about the Palace!!

  16. Lau says:

Oh you just know Camilla was too happy to have that kind of ammunition against Kate and William, her son’s circle wouldn’t be involved if she wasn’t at least a little bit involved as well.

  17. Sunday says:

It just hit me how strange it is that in the years since this rumor first broke, there hasn’t been a single interview or quote or legal threat or lawsuit from Rose or David. It reminds me that their family is completely intertwined with the British crown and service to it. I wonder, then, who better to agree to whatever cover story a desperate heir needs than a family already in service to the crown in such a high ranking way?

IDK, I definitely don’t buy that Rose leaked this, IMO that suggestion is completely outside the realm for an aristo like Rose. But would Rose and family begrudgingly be used as cover? Yes, I don’t really think they’d have a choice, especially if there really were a secret that would make your eyes bleed (I think we all agree an affair ain’t it)?

    • Interested Gawker says:

      I suspect this too.

    • Jaded says:

I agree, and an extra-marital affair wouldn’t make anyone’s “eyes bleed” as that’s the accepted norm with the aristo crowd, including same sex affairs. That comment hints at something far darker.

      • Kitten says:

No doubt there is something much darker and that this Rose rumour is just a cover for it .There have long been rumours about all the men in that family . Starting with Mountbatten and down through the generations .

  18. Alice says:

Charles’s first valet wrote two books about the royal family. The second was written after the boys were born. William is a toddler, but the valet writes about his rages even then. The Windsors have this gene, and I think it just came out hard in William and no one ever successfully got it under control.

  19. Beech says:

Now this, this! Is delicious! I never get tired of looking at that photograph, there’s so much going on in that image and from the first I laid eyes on it wondered what was going on. I need a velvet painting of it! Kkkate’s smirk, “never puts a foot wrong” is gangsta.

  20. Beach Dreams says:

I still think he and Rose did actually have an affair (I think one British poster here, The Hench, knows people in/adjacent to those circles who confirmed it was a multiyear thing, IF I remember correctly), but it’s possible that he and David had something going on too.

I mean, something clearly happened for Kate to completely lose her shit and avoid Houghton Hall like the plague for the next three years. That birthday photo-op at the church in 2020 was very telling too, because it was meant to dispel the rumors, and yet Kate completely ignored Rose’s presence. It would’ve been more convincing if they’d looked at each other and exchanged a brief word…but nothing. These two were all smiles and cheek kisses two to three years before the fall out rumors, and we haven’t seen one shot of them interacting since the blowup.

Also, I’ll also bring up the state dinner in 2017 again, because Rose was there and Kate looked like she could throw daggers with her expressions that night. It’s possible she suspected or even knew something was happening between Will and Rose back then.

Something that I have always thought was weird in all of the reporting and rumours about those “private dinners” supposedly between William and Rose is is that they all basically make William seem like a simpleton who couldn’t possibly cope on his own. The idea that Kate should be pleased that Rose was there to “entertain” him when she was away makes him sound hilariously childish, almost like spending time with him is an act of charity and Kate should just count herself lucky to be able to get away from her unpleasant spouse. It’s hardly flattering!

I think the phrase is meant to convey that Kate should be grateful that Rose is “one of us”, who knows the rules that govern aristo affairs, and that she is not a threat to the future Kween. Almost like the sources are saying “Look, at least he’s not embarrassing you by dad dancing in nightclubs or knocking up some 20-year-old flight attendant”.

“…knows the rules that govern aristo affairs, and that she is not a threat to the future Kween.”

I’m sure that was cold comfort to Kate and her mother with Cam at Charles’ side, let alone bumping herself up from Consort to Queen.

Rose would have been a good Royal plus I love her style. Everything is so effortless and what she has done to the ancestral home is amazing.

I am the sure the ungracious and entitled lump that is Willy is cross about “settling ” for less when his compares Rose with Kate! Forgetting that he settled because everybody else could not tolerate either him or his icy family and rabid tabloid attention.

    • Interested Gawker says:

Rose has excellent taste and a great deal of creativity in the way she presents herself and her home.
      One to watch…

  23. VilleRose says:

Will we ever get confirmation about this? People always talk in circles around of “unsubstantiated reports” but… where did the story come from if it’s entirely unsubstantiated? What interests me is who leaked this story in the first place. I know there were reports of Rose’s brother openly talking about it in a pub (?) but did the leak originally come from him? Was it Camilla?

    • sevenblue says:

I remember that the first story came from Dan wootton and Eden with the rivalry story between Kate and Rose, then the palace lawyers got activated and suddenly all of them talking about this story turned their pens against H&M. Affair rumours got spread through social media, a lot of tabloid writers tweeted that it is a known secret.

I remember reading that some of Rose’s house staff were talking about Willy’s visits. Rose’s brother was talking about it because he was asked about these rumours and he dismissed it as just friendly dinners. Also, one of the British people tweeting about the affair is a good friend of Camilla’s son. So, there is also a theory that Camilla is behind the rumours and sh*t stirring. Maybe, she thought since she and Charles got caught, Willy deserved to get caught too.

I think it was on this site that I read, quite some time ago, that there was a huge secret that was never to be found out because it would be disastrous for the monarchy. About the same time, from a different source, I read an article that , paraphrasing here, that after William the next king would be someone who is unexpected. I keep on going back to these two thoughts, wondering if they are related or coincidental.

It’s not exactly a secret but I guess not public knowledge what they get up to in that family .they have always been protected .just remember Charles close friendship with Jimmy Saville that tells you all you need to know .they’re all indoctrinated into this world ..

  25. J.Ferber says:

Willy having a mistress (or many) would be unsurprising to most people. Now, if the affair were with a married couple, that would be more interesting. Not sure if it reaches “eyes bleeding” in the scandal scale, but it is certainly an enticing story. What in the world did Willy really do that would make one’s “eyes bleed?” I do believe it might have him doing something in a drunken rage and that is only for starters. The perversions and crimes of royal families are legendary.

I have read a few times that it was Rose Hanbury’s brother who leaked details of William’s affair with Rose. He leaked it to other member’s of his private club in London. He could have been drunk.
