VF: ‘Never complaining’ Queen Camilla ‘is the quiet power behind the throne’

Here are more photos of Queen Camilla’s big day out in Bath, England. She really did have a day full of events – she did the 850th anniversary event for her patronage, St. John’s Foundation, she visited the almshouses, she went to church, she went on a walkabout and she did like five other things too. She grinned like a Cheshire cat the whole time and I swear to god, she’s positively glowing, she’s so happy. At her events, she was asked about her husband’s condition and she confirmed that King Charles is “recovering well, thank you.” She also talked about how “eating your own vegetables is incredibly special” and how much she loves to putter around the gardens at Highgrove. What’s weird about that is I’m pretty sure that Charles has a huge team of professional gardeners tending to the Highgrove gardens. Camilla has her own gardens at Ray Mill, but she probably didn’t want to remind everyone that she keeps her own separate home. Please, she’s having too much fun. Speaking of, Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair had some exclusive quotes about how Buckingham Palace staffers are incredibly grateful that Camilla is holding down the fort and that she’s the last royal standing.

With King Charles on leave, sources close to the royal family have been keen to point out Camilla’s “extraordinary” level of commitment to her duties. “The Queen has been pretty remarkable,” one source told Vanity Fair. “While her husband has been in hospital she was by his side and also making sure she didn’t neglect her own duties. She is incredibly committed and doesn’t want to let anyone down even though as a family they are going through a challenging time. She is 76 and one of the hardest working members of the family. She never complains, she just gets on with the work and always with a smile on her face.”

The royal family is currently having to scale back its engagements with three senior royal royals off work; King Charles, who is expected to be back at work soon, Kate Middleton, who is recovering from abdominal surgery following 13 days in hospital, and Prince William, who has taken a break from work to support his wife and care for their three children.

“Throughout, Camilla has been there with a smile on her face and reassuring words for well-wishers,” added the source. “Her stoicism has always been known to her close friends, but it is also earning her a huge amount of respect and admiration at the palace and I think among the public.”

While it was always the late Queen Elizabeth’s mantra to “keep calm and carry on,” the same can be said of Queen Camilla. “She is the quiet power behind the throne,” another source added. “It’s remarkable that she was once blamed for nearly bringing the monarchy down when in fact now it is she is keeping the show on the road.”

[From Vanity Fair]

I wonder if some (not all, but some) of Camilla’s giddiness and visible joy is simply that she’s doing all of these solo events and she gets to do things her way, without having to do all of that emotional upkeep on Charles’s ego. They always make Camilla sound like Charles’s handler/nanny – she has to soothe him and comfort him and help him when he has a tantrum. Now that she doesn’t have to waste all of that energy on Charles’s moods, she’s actually enjoying herself and enjoying these events. As I said, that’s only part of the story. She’s also enjoying some secret knowledge, some scheme which she’s executing flawlessly. Whatever is happening behind the scenes, Camilla is not only going to come out of it smelling like a rose, she’s going to be much more powerful than ever before.

The woman is having the time of her life.

    • Megan says:

She really knows how to play the game.

    • swaz says:

I guess Kate has been replaced 🙄🙄 that didn’t take long 🙄🙄

    • Deborah says:

Why wouldn’t she be the cat savoring the cream? She doesn’t have to deal with her man-baby husband, her cranky step-son, or his janky wife: she’s got the run of engagements and can get in England’s face to show them how crap can rise to the top thankyouverymuch.

    • Cessily says:

That flower show was a very poor choice…

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

Singlehandedly doing everything. Next week we’ll hear she even ran warm water for charles siege bath.

    • MoxyLady007 says:

The Machiavellian levels of machinations she manages blows my mind.

I tried to have start a conversation about vaccines and sickness protocol in the name of community care as we were heading into fall with my small close knit group of friends and it absolutely exploded. We lost friends over it. It was literally a casual convo.

And she’s over here replacing beloved dead family members and assassinating people in the press – FOR DECADES – and still on top.

I couldn’t stay on top for one conversation.

It’s possible that that’s because I was trying ti do the right thing and Camilla does the right thing for Camilla and sometimes Charles.

  2. Eddie O says:

Nobody asked her how Kate is doing? Meaning, nobody was allowed to ask how Kate is doing. Suspicious. I am not a fan (of any of them) but starting to get worried about Kate

    • Tessa says:

That is very odd. Amazing that there are no demands from the public for William to make an appearance his being heir

    • Jais says:

Yeah the rota have clearly been told and have clearly agreed to not ask questions about Kate. They can ask about Charles but Kate is off limits. Which is weird since Camilla supposedly visited Kate in the hospital. Was it just Rebecca English that reported that detail?

    • MoxyLady007 says:

If it turns out Kate is dead or in a coma – these happy photos won’t look good. So obviously we won’t ever know the truth about Kate.

    • Aurora says:

I’m also worried, and for her sake and her kids’ I’ll be almost relieved if this is only a PR stunt while Kate tries to carry a risky pregnancy along, or she and William are given time to blow steam and make up after a serious marital rift.
Every statement is more puzzling than the prior, to the point where I can’t help wondering what can be possibly so serious.

  3. Cessily says:

She is an absolutely terrifying woman.

    • Josephine says:

but ultimately pretty lazy, I think. this is just a brief bit of attention and action for her and i suspect she’ll get back to her afternoon cigs and booze sessions with her favorite tabloid losers soon.

      • Proud Mary says:

Her invisible contract with the media is airtight. Kaiser says Cowmilla will come out smelling like roses– of course she will, because that’s how the BM chooses to cover her. It’s not that she’s doing anything spectacular. The British tabloid can make anyone or anything look good or bad depending on how they choose the coverage. Meghan’s free advertisement that boosted a female-owned lab-grown diamond company to a tone of diamonds 1000 percent— bad. Camzilla showing up to waive and smile in stolen diamonds whose mining probably took a life or two—splendid.

    • Dilettante says:

      Cessily I agree.

    • MoxyLady007 says:

She’s a human orca. They kill for fun. They plan attacks with with their friends. They flip over great whites, drown them and eat their livers – Ans leave the rest of the body.

      She’s terrifying.

  4. Tessa says:

That first photo yikes. These writers should not be comparing Camilla to the late queen. For many reasons. All this overpraise. She is really targeting William and Kate now especially William she is getting even with the William should take over from Charles spin.

    • Smart&Messy says:

And she is right about Peg. What’s stopping him from hopping on a helicopter and cut a ribbon somewhere? If he has no real reason then he is even more of a moron than we suspected.

      • Proud Mary says:

Serves William right for calling his mother paranoid and for betraying his brother. He needed Harry. But his jealousy meant he would rather deal with Camzilla than share the spotlight with his brother. I hope that heffa declares herself monarch.

  5. equality says:

Charles has to have gardeners doing most of the work since his main residence is Clarence House and he isn’t at one place all the time to tend to gardens. Cam is full of it. What has she got to complain about? The media protects her and Charles takes up for her and not any other members of his family, even innocent children.

  6. Snuffles says:

The White Witch has usurped Narnia.

  7. TOM says:

Evil smarts it is but one working Royal is intelligent, at least.

  8. WiththeAmerican says:

Vanity Fair carrying water for royal propaganda and this evil woman doesn’t surprise me. Another subscription I canceled a year ago after I realized they just sell worshipping of elites.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I detected a little bit of shade in the article, as in: Camilla is carrying out all her duties without missing a beat. She is doing public engagements AND spending time with her spouse. The royalists know that the disappearance of both W&K, without credible explanation, is doing serious damage to the concept of royalty being worth the expense.

      • Snaggletooth says:

The more I think about Wills taking a 3-4 month leave, the more bonkers it is. The only way my husband would take a total leave of absence would be if I were actually dying. But recovering at home with staff from something non-lethal? Especially with kids at school? Of course not!!

      • Isabella says:

They keep saying this is normal. Normal is you keep working and zip out to see a hospitalized spouse at lunchtime if you can. You return at night if you can get somebody to take care of your kids. That’s how you keep your job.

  9. MaryContrary says:

Yes-I think dealing with fussy Charles is a lot of work. But talk about egging the pudding-this breathless adoration and gratitude for her is a bit much. They act like all of this “work” is saving the country. That really must draw people’s attention to what a complete waste of money and space the BRF is in this day and age. The comments I was reading last night on the DM, particularly about William’s absence, were scathing.

    • Tessa says:

Charles has valets and doctors to help him. I think Camilla sneaks off to raymill for breaks.

      • MaryContrary says:

Oh absolutely-I just meant when they do these events together, I think she is very much in coddle mode (remember his pen throwing?) I think she has to jolly him along before and during. She deserves every bit of it, of course, but I think that it must be so much easier for her to go to these things without dealing with him.

  10. Yes I think she has always been the power behind Chuckles doing his dirty work to get rid of his wife and son. She is out enjoying here power and also trolling Peg. She completely has the reins.

  11. Tessa says:

Comparing the late queen to Camilla is ludicrous. Camilla did little in the way of charity until Charles hired bol land to prepare her for future role as queen. The queen pledged a life of service when she came of age and was queen for fifty years. The queen and philip were married. The queen never undermined another woman like Camilla did to Diana. It is good Camilla helps but the rewriting of history is too much.

  12. Mads says:

I would mentally snort at people commenting that Camilla played William like a fiddle; feeding his sense of superiority, jealousy of Harry and Meghan’s popularity etc. by, seemingly, taking his side in the smear campaign against them whilst, in reality, it was a masterclass in subterfuge and her end game was to weaken both of Diana’s sons by breaking their bond. After observing her game over the past couple of weeks I’m no longer so dismissive of that line of thinking. She’s a nasty piece of work.

    • Ameerah M says:

Well she didn’t have to do much in regards to breaking Harry and Will’s bond. Wills was doing a lot of the work himself and had been since he and Harry were little. Harry talked about Will’s jealousy and insecurity and need to control him in Spare. If he wasn’t such a jealous insecure overgrown brat she would never have been able to do what she did. She just used his own personality and behavior to her advantage.

    • Amy Bee says:

There wasn’t a bond between William and Harry to begin with so Camilla can’t be blamed for that.

  13. Just Jade says:

She is definitely the quiet power because she made a young woman life a living hell stole her husband until the day the woman was killed in the car accident than she married that young woman husband divided the family turned them against each other. She is so powerful she had all her journalists friends to help the young woman second son wife Unalive herself than made sure the second son and wife were banished from the island.

  14. Lilly (with the double-L) says:

That throne sure has a lot of wyt lady space behind it. Not to mention the weaponry they arm themselves with needing room too.

  15. Becks1 says:

She really is like the cat that got the canary, isn’t she? She is coming out on top of this mess, PR wise, and all she has had to do is…..visit her husband in the hospital, go to engagements, and smile. And she has made William look lazy and neglectful and cold, without doing anything wrong.

  16. Roo says:

Does she need to be careful about getting too much fawning coverage? Will Chuck ever start to get jealous of her? Hmmm.

    • Eurydice says:

I don’t think so. She’s not out there being a rock star like Diana – she’s being the dutiful Queen Consort keeping things together.

    • Tessa says:

Camilla is super secure even if he gets jealous of her he cannot afford another divorce plus he spun the great thirty year love story.

  17. Feeshalori says:

“While her husband has been in hospital she was by his side and also making sure she didn’t neglect her own duties. She is incredibly committed and doesn’t want to let anyone down even though as a family they are going through a challenging time.“
What an absolute burn to William.🔥
If l as a 76 year old woman can take on all these commitments, what’s your excuse as a younger man and your father’s heir?

    • D says:

That sentence was “chef’s kiss”…so much said to make William seem like a complete failure but never having to mention him or Kate to get the point across.

All he has to do is show up somewhere, be asked how Kate is doing and say “getting on” or “feeling better by the day” and that would be it. They are creating their own soap opera for no reason.

  18. Amy Bee says:

Camilla is happy because she’s the centre of attention.

  19. sunny says:

Listen, I don’t care that Camilla was a mistress. People cheat all the time and the married partner is who has the obligation not the dish on the side. But what gets me about Camilla is how cruel, manipulative, and scheming she is. All the people she has delighted in hurting. It is giving cartoon villain. That being said, I can respect her hustler game.

Also lmao, I have never seen a woman so happy that her husband is ill/indisposed. Charles who?

This woman is the very embodiment of survivor’s tag line, “Outwit, Outlast, Outplay.”

    • Tessa says:

Not everyone cheats. Charles was involved with Camilla in the late seventies while she was married to Andrew Parker Bowles and they had young children. She helped Charles select lady Diana spencer. She and her husband hosted them for weekend visits. She played safe.married friend and advised Charles to select Diana. Camilla was involved every step of the way in the Wales marriage. She was not just some one he cheated with. She had ambitions

      • sunny says:

I’m not saying everyone cheats but many people do. My issue with her is the manipulation and scheming which you elaborated in your post and I initially mentioned in mine.

I just don’t think her greatest crime is being a mistress because in society lots of people are. And I stand by Charles being the greater villain because it is the person in the marriage who owes a greater duty of care to their spouse than those outside of it.

      • Tessa says:

Yes because Charles proposed to Diana knowing he preferred Camilla. This is straight from Charles own authorized biography with Charles being the source of this information. Camilla could have said no plus she undermined Diana all the way. A letter in the public domain recorded her writing to Charles and saying about Diana just ignore that ridiculous creature.

  20. Flower says:

Camilla truly achieved top heaux status.

    I stan a proactive sidepiece.

  21. Lau says:

Camilla is really making these media connections work !

  22. Kay says:

After all these years plotting and scheming. She has it all Queens jewels lackeys to do her every bidding us plebs bowing and scraping to her. I cannot accept her as Queen she reminds me of the wicked Queen from Snow White. I think Harry was spot on when he mentioned Camilla.

  23. Teagirl says:

I don’t care for the woman at all, but I must say that she does some things right. She has her arms and hands down her side not in the W & K fig leaf. She doesn’t guffaw. Her eyes don’t track to the camera and lock on. And I have to admire her scheming skills, they are exceptional. She could give classes

    • Tessa says:

I don’t admire her treatment of Diana and the sussexes. Her scheming was destructive not productive.

    • sparrow says:

I’m with you, Teagirl. She’s a vile woman, as evidenced by her treatment of other women. Putting that to one side, and yes it’s difficult, but her minimal skills with others are vastly better than some in that family. She doesn’t gurn, look for cameras. She seems to talk and engage. Not much to admire in someone, if at all, it’s the basics surely, which in its own way shows how little we expect of this lot.

  24. JustMe says:

Camilla was taking notes watching Game of Thrones

  25. GamerGrrl says:

I imagine she’s having the time of her life, because this officially cements her as Queen – not the other woman, not second wife/what will call her, QUEEN.

  26. kelleybelle says:

Thank God I cancelled my subscription to Vanity Fair years ago. What utter rot this is. The woman is a boozing smoker who’s never worked a day in her life.

  27. Lady Digby says:

She has run circles around simply by showing up and steadying the royal ship with a visible presence of stability and continuty. Monarchy’s strength is allegedly continuity, familiarity and stability. Harry stated in Spare whatever you’re going through privately the mantra is show up for the public and smile. It is like showbiz, the show MUST go on. Where is FK and what the fk is he “doing”? How can he justify not helping run the family business when he’s the deputy head and instead taking months ORF whilst pensioners hold the fort for him? Isn’t he supposed to be protecting the monarchy brand? Why isn’t he leading from the front instead of laying in somebody’s lap and having cheese toasties fed to him? I repeat this man needs to report back for duty on Monday and begin behaving like a responsible adult when his boss and dad requires his support now.

  28. J.Ferber says:

Chica is happier than a lark.

  29. AC says:

Looking at the UKs economic standing in the world, Camilla isn’t going to save them from being 2nd to the last place and barely growing in economic growth amongst the other G7 nations.

  30. BeanieBean says:

I cannot stand the poor quality writing of these rota rats. ‘Smile on her face’ was used twice, two paragraphs apart, and the second time it was used was in a sentence that included the phrase, ‘added the source’. It’s not an addition! It was already said! Argghhh!!!
