Is Prince Harry ‘snubbing his father’ by not wearing a coronation medal?

Last Thursday, Prince Harry presented an award to an American veteran named Elizabeth Marks. Harry is friends with Sergeant First Class Marks – I remember being so moved by her story, which I heard because she was an Invictus competitor. Back in 2016, Harry presented her with a medal for Invictus, and she immediately wanted to donate the medal to raise funds for the British hospital where she had been treated. Harry respects the hell out of her. Well, Sgt. Marks was given the Soldier of the Year award by the Military Times last week, and they asked Harry to present the award remotely, from his home. Harry wore a dark suit and his British medals, per the Telegraph: his Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, his Golden Jubilee Medal, Diamond Jubilee Medal, and Platinum Jubilee Medal.

Can you even imagine finding fault with any part of this? If you can, you’re part of the deranger contingent in the British media. They’re simultaneously mad that Harry wore his British medals for an American presentation to an American AND they’re mad that Harry isn’t wearing his coronation medal.

The Duke of Sussex appears to have snubbed his father by opting not to wear his Coronation medal alongside others as he presented a military award. Prince Harry donned four medals to record a video of himself honouring a soldier from the back door of his California home but the one featuring effigies of the King and Queen was notably absent.

His spokesperson declined to comment on why he did not wear the Coronation medal that is believed to have been awarded to him on his father’s accession last year.

The medal, made of nickel silver, was given to 400 recipients involved in the Coronation ceremonies and processions as well as serving members of the Armed Forces and emergency service workers.

Similarly, Harry did not wear the medal when he delivered a video monologue for Stand Up For Heroes in New York last November. Relations between the Duke and the King remain strained, although is believed to have improved.

[From The Telegraph]

I know we’re supposed to say “good for him, I hope he IS snubbing his father.” But ten bucks says that Harry probably didn’t even get the coronation medal. His dogsh-t father evicted Harry from his home, yanked his security and had concerns about how dark Harry’s children would be. That man did not give his ginger son a coronation medal.

I also looked through the photo archives of Harry’s military-adjacent or state-function appearances in the past two years – these are the same medals he’s worn to everything. He wore the same medal setup to the Jubbly church service in June 2022. He wore the same medals to his grandmother’s funeral. He wore the same medals to his father’s coronation, and he wore the same medals to the Stand Up for Heroes remote appearance last year. What’s more likely: that Harry is making a conscious effort to snub his father specifically with which medals he wears OR that he just has a medal bar with everything organized and he just wears the same bar every time?

Hundred percent! He isn’t wearing it because he wasn’t given one in the first place.

    • Jais says:

How would he get the medal? He wasn’t at the coronation long enough to even put down his hanger. So someone from the palace would have had to send it to montecito. And I’m guessing someone from the palace conveniently forgot. Or maybe the medal got lost in the mail 🙄

    • SarahLee says:

That was my thought as well. They’re saying Harry is snubbing Charles and it is going to come out that Charles actually snubbed Harry. Then the British media will say “Well good on Charles!”

    • No Chuckles is a putz and didn’t give him one.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Bingo. The tabloid/palace line is nothing but DARVO.

Hi KP & BP, we see you, and your petty games are making your King look bad! :waves:

Have fun digging yourselves out of this PR hole, Edward Young…

    • anotherlily says:

That’s exactly what I think too. He was treated disgracefully at the Coronation. He’s as much the King’s son as William yet he was relegated to the third row. At least he arrived in time.

    • Caribbean says:

These ‘writers’ in the UK Tabloids and their affiliates seems to only know the word ‘snub’
Harry never once said he did not love his family, his actions are not to hurt them, but to preserve himself and his family. AND even self-preservation and taking care of his family seems to STILL leave room for NOT ‘snubbing’ the UK Royal.
He actions (and if there is someone reading this and saying, but the OPRAH INTERVIEW, THE DOCUMENTARY, THE BOOK), like I said, were self-preservation (after losing security and the SILENCE of his own family to H & M’s pain and suffering) and taking care of his family.
BTW…if my family did to me what the Royals did to H & M (and now EVERYONE CAN SEE that they have the power to STOP THE PRESS), I would HAVE TOLD EVERYTHING, even where the skeletons are buried, and then write a loving FORWARD to said family.

    • Ramona says:

I might be late to the party here but my ex was military and medals have to be mounted on a bar. Harry may not have found someone who knows how to or it may have been a low priority because he does not wear them as often. Ex had to find a guy every time we moved. A couple of times it was last minute running around to find a contact. Harry may not have had enough notice.

      • Kingston says:

        LOL What?
“…..Harry may not have found someone who knows how to…”
Er……H’s home is a country with the largest and most resourced military in the world. And his contacts inside the seat of power inside that military is as topnotch as it can get.

Rest assured, H knows what he wants to do and equally, what he wont do.

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

I don’t know but anything given to him by QE he would wear, anything under Charles, he wouldnt.
So ya, charles and his whole batsht crazy family are being snubbed

    • Jane says:

That family is toxic — just stay away from them Prince Harry.

  2. Mel says:

The ROTA is floundering. This is one of their dumbest moments. He wears what he’s got. The end.

  3. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

The medals are arranged on a bar, so Harry has just kept his medals as is. You do make a good point, that Harry probably didn’t receive a Coronation medal, I really wish he would confirm that.

  4. sevenblue says:

Now if his team makes a comment about him not receiving one, they are gonna write how he is crying / moaning about a medal and lick Charles’s behind for not giving him a medal. That’s why you don’t play their games because there is no winning strategy. It is rigged from the start.

    • Libra says:

Unfortunately I agree with you. No matter what H and M do it will be turned against tbem . This must be so frustrating for them both; they can’t even defend themselves without being accused of ” whining “.

      • Swaz says:

I don’t think they care anymore 😎 the whole world can see that Meghan and Harry have moved on 😎

    • WiththeAmerican says:

The Sussexes have grey rocking down to a science. The public is learning a lot about healthy boundaries from them.

    • Shawna says:

      Exactly!

    • By still wearing jubblie medals, he might be indicating that he doesn’t have the Coronation medal. That, or he may be moving in the direction of his new residency, where affiliations to foreign princes or potentates are forbidden.

More likely, he doesn’t have the new medal.

  5. Em says:

Harry has great respect for the monarchy not necessarily its members, so if he isn’t wearing one I guess he wasn’t given

  6. equality says:

Maybe he didn’t get one. But, he served under QE’s reign. Maybe he feels those are the earned medals. QE is who he said was his commander in chief.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

By wearing the jubilee medals he is showing respect for his grandmother, perhaps he doesn’t respect his father, that doesn’t preclude him from still loving him.

  7. Brassy Rebel says:

He went to the conanation. That should be enough. And, yes, he probably never received the 🏅. He extends grace to his father over and over again. If he had the 🏅, he would wear it.

    • Renae says:

He would want to wear a medal with an effegy of Camilla on it?
Why? I doubt he received one but if he did, I hope he keeps it in his underwear drawer and it doesn’t see the light of day for fifty years.

  8. Hypocrisy says:

I hate gambling but I would place a bet that Prince Harry never received any medal from his father’s staff or his father himself. That being said I am glad he isn’t wearing a KC3 medal because his reign is definitely cursed, best to not wear that kind of negativity around.

    • Nivz says:

A cursed reign, for sure, but only a fraction of the cursed that Huevo’s will be.

      • rosa mwemaid says:

Which is why I wish Charles a long life, I even respected him for his concern about the environment and his talking to plants. But not now after the way he has treated his son and had the discussion about the colour of the children.

  9. JoanCallamezzo says:

How rich. Didn’t The Firm ban Prince Harry from wearing his military medals to some event? The prince who served 10 years for his country, the Apache helicopter pilot whose legacy is secured with the Invictus Games and Sentabale? I hope good King Harry doesn’t even hear the latest criticism. Losers.

    • Bad Janet says:

I believe it was his entire military uniform, which he wanted to wear to the Jubilee or the Coronation (maybe both). The rest of the family got to wear their military cosplay, but Harry – the only royal, besides Andrew, who has done any real military service – didn’t get to wear his.

He earned those medals. The British press doesn’t get to decide when he can wear them. Those protocols are VERY clearly detailed by people with way more clout, authority, and responsibility than some knuckle dragging Rota hacks. If the British Army has a problem with it, they can come after Harry, but they won’t, because he did nothing wrong; the press can have an opinion, but it’s a worthless one.

      • Shawna says:

IIRC it was the Jubilee. They were a**hats to Harry about his uniform for the Jubilee, and he looked amazing, like the king to the rest of the RF’s equerries. They learned their lesson and downplayed military adornment for the Con-a-nation.

  10. Margaret says:

He might feel that displaying four medals is enough and that tacking another one on would be too much on his suit coat. It might be different if he was allowed to wear a uniform.

  11. MrsCope says:

This article exists because 1. Harry continues to be respected in the military community and they’re big mad they can’t take that away ( see also the DM article they’ve published again saying he was wrong to say the number of people he’s killed).

    2. Because last week’s royal honors for Camilla, Wills and wife were laughed at and they need to deflect.

  12. Lola says:

Please remember, Charles’s coronation medal includes a profile of Charles AND CAMILLA.

Do we really think that Harry would go out of his was to wear CAMILLA on his chest, especially since he has yet to acknowledge her as Queen Consort.

William acknowledged Camilla as Queen immediately, but Charles & the Rota have been trying to get Harry to acknowledge her since their ascension to the throne.

Harry wearing the coronation medal would ALSO acknowledge Camilla as Queen, something Harry will not do. So he is not wearing the medal. That’s assuming that Charles gave him one to begin with. I tend to think Harry has the medal because it was given out 7-8 months after Charles became king & BP had been briefing and leaking increasingly desperate stories about needing Harry to acknowledge Camilla’s new role for months. IMHO OF COURSE they’d send Harry a coronation medal and hope that he wear it so they could get some acknowledgment of ‘Queen Camilla’ by default

    • Vader says:

Excellent points @lola. I think Harry did get a medal and chucky hoped that H would wear it in order to acknowledge his mistress turned wife as queen.

  13. Lau says:

Just coming here to say that it’s hilarious that Harry actually works from home when William has been screaming everywhere that he has been working from home and would continue to do so even when he’s king without giving any evidence that he actually does any work from home.

  14. Interested Gawker says:

It didn’t occur to me that Harry might not have been given a medal for CIII’s coronation but even if he had one I can’t imagine him wanting to have Cam’s face on his chest.

Turnabout is fair play, they took QEII’s initials off of the uniform they gave Harry to stand vigil at her coffin! That was disrespectful to him as a soldier and a family member as well as Elizabeth’s memory as his grandmother, Queen and CIC.

  15. aquarius64 says:

Harry didn’t get a coronation medal because if he did he would have worn five medals on his chest instead of four. Also, Harry wouldn’t have received it because one requment was being a recipient of the Victoria Cross. Harry has the Victoria Star. Also, Camilla’s mug was on that coronation medal.

  16. Kingston says:

I’m surprised that the blurb for this thread didnt mention that the side piece is given equal billing on chucky’s conanation medal.

How can anyone respect chucky’s conanation medal as the medal issued by the monarch on his most important day, when it is in fact NOT a medal representing the monarch?

Chucky’s conanation medal is a vanity project for him and his sidepiece. Why should H show any regard for that???!!!

What folks in britain should be talking about is how chucky has cemented the horse’s place in history as a co-monarch.

Phillip did not have equal billing with betty with respect to her carrying out any of her official roles as THEE monarch.

  17. Mary Pester says:

Harry’s got the medal, but LILLIBET buried it in her sandpit and Harry can’t be bothered to look for it. 😂If and it’s a big if Harry got one, there is no way in hell he would have sullied the award for this wonderful young woman. WHY would he wear a chocolate box medal that means nothing to any American, and more importantly, this young warrior woman is part of the invictus family. INVICTUS, the family that honours its members, that supports its members and their families, that supports with pride, everything they did IN service and the strength they have shown, overcoming everything that happened to them whilst in that service! The family that comes together when the call goes out that someone is struggling they are THERE
Now why the hell would Harry wear a medal depicting the man and woman who so dishonoured myself and every other British veteran at the last invictus games. NOT A WORD, not even a generic “we support all our veterans” from our dogsht commander in Cheif, Harry’s dogsht father. Harry will always honour his grandmother, but no, Charlie can keep collecting the tokens from his chocolate boxes to give to his little tin soldier family. Harry wants no part of it.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

      Well said.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Mary Pester, I hope that all of the UK service members remember that QE2 did support all of you. That could be another reason that Harry (IF he got the medal) isn’t wearing it. KFC doesn’t give any indication that he supports the military members at all.

    • Cmoore says:

Mary Pester Am so glad you’re back . Have never posted but I missed you . Am sending you love from California

  18. Amy Bee says:

I’m going to guess that he doesn’t have a coronation medal. Plus, I’m thinking he wouldn’t wear the coronation medal, even if he had one, because he’s never served the King.

    • Kingston says:

You are so right. H said I believe its in Spare) that: “I will always honor my grandmother, my queen, even after she is gone.”

  19. Bad Janet says:

As I mentioned in a threaded comment, the Rota has no business even commenting on this. It’s not up to them. The British military has protocols for when Harry may wear medals he earned as a prior member of the Army. THEY get to decide when Harry has overstepped, not some knuckle dragging hacks with an ax to grind.

Harry wore his medals because it was appropriate for the situation. As always, the Rota can get bent over this desperate attempt to create a controversy where there is none.

    • Shawna says:

“It’s not up to them.” It shouldn’t be, but hasn’t Charles trained the press to think they’re in charge?

      • Bad Janet says:

The press will always have opinions about things that aren’t their business, but complaining about something that has military protocols in place is extra, even for them.

But they don’t care, as long as they can get people to wring their hands and whine along with them about Harry doing…. Absolutely nothing problematic at all by wearing the medals he earned to present something to a military honoree, and how dare he not wear a medal he was probably never given.

I used to work on an international base and they act like foreign military members never do things like this. As always, they are literally making stuff up to cry about.

  20. tamsin says:

I would believe that Harry does not have the his father’s coronation medal. I see Charles as being that petty, even though the likes of Mike Tindall and Edo probably both have one. I think the Queen was the only one who accepted Meghan into the family as a member. Pity Meghan didn’t get the family medal.
