Before Prince William and Kate welcomed Prince George in 2013, they already had a fur-baby, a cocker spaniel named Lupo. Lupo sadly died too young in 2020, and Will and Kate immediately got another cocker spaniel, Orla. William even claimed that Orla sleeps in the same bed with him and Kate. Both Lupo and Orla were “bred” by Kate’s brother James Middleton, who is all about dogs and he apparently gives away/sells puppies as a side gig. Well, apparently, the Wales family never got Orla spayed! So Orla had puppies recently. Four puppies.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly welcomed four puppies to their family – after their dog Orla gave birth to quadruplets. Cocker spaniel Orla joined the Wales family in 2020 as a gift from Kate’s brother James Middleton, who is well known for breeding dogs.
The five-year-old pup is now reported to have given birth to four puppies – and the royal children – George, 11, Charlotte, ten, and seven-year-old Louis – are said to be in love.
A source told The Sun: ‘We always thought the patter of tiny feet in the Wales’s household had ended, so the sound of tiny paws will have to do.’
They added that Orla and her puppies are all ‘doing well’. The names of the four new additions have yet to be revealed, and it is not known if the Wales family plan to keep any of the weeks-old pups. The identity of the father is also unknown, according to reports. The insider said: ‘Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close. Everyone is very excited, not least the three children, who adore Orla, and Lupo before.’
I’m appalled by the way they just breezed over the implications for the royal bloodline. They don’t know who fathered the puppies? Orla might have gotten knocked up by some titleless mutt with no family name?? What if the father cannot support his four puppies? How will Orla pay for them? Where’s Orla’s Netflix contract?? This is the biggest royal scandal in a decade! Honestly though, I can’t believe they never got Orla spayed. There are so many dogs out there looking for a good home. I’ll admit that I do not care for James Middleton running this off-the-books breeding program. I don’t doubt that James treats his dogs well, but again… just spay and neuter your animals.

How about #adoptdon’tshop ??
No Royal patronages they could have supported?
Cam is patron of a rescue group and adopted her dog from there. Now is her perfect opportunity to play that up in the media and make W&K look bad with not spaying.
Probably the keens don’t even sleep under the same roof now.
But when they are, the dog is there to separate them.
Agree. James could just as easily run a rescue on his farm. He doesn’t have to breed dogs to give them away.
This dog does not look comfortable in Charlottes hugs. Just saying^^
She really doesn’t! Although maybe it’s the photographer (Kate) more than the kid? That poor dog is definitely giving canine freeze-out. I can’t imagine that family would be good with dogs, they’re not good with anything.
I’m more just wondering how is orla being allowed to just wander around with other dogs? Are there just random dogs wandering around Windsor? But puppies are cute so I’d imagine the kids are in puppy heaven.
That was my thought, too. They just let her run loose so she can get pregnant? But my other thought was maybe they had her bred for James Middleton and the puppies will go there.
So the dog was actually purposely bred but they’re lying that it somehow just got pregnant?
They’re only saying they don’t know the identity of the father, not how the dog got pregnant. Maybe James didn’t tell them or maybe she snuck off with a sheep dog. We could guess which if we saw the puppies.
I read that as the writer doesn’t know the identity of the male dog – not that it is a mystery to all involved.
I see neither leash nor collar on this dog in any of these photos, so maybe she does just get to wander around. My guess is they deliberate bred her with one of James’ dogs & it was no surprise to anyone outside the household.
Identity of the father unknown. Quickly skipped over that little fact, didn’t they.
I just think it’s gross that the press (royal insider) is comparing royal babies to these puppies. The real purpose of the Wales children are for the press’ entertainment and thank god Harry and Meghan took their children out of this.
So, irresponsible pet owners at best, backyard breeders at worst, lovely.
Would behave preferred a photo of the puppies
Right?!
Unless she is pedigree and mating with another pedigree to have a litter of puppies bred for dog shows the dog should have been spayed
This reads as an advertisement for James Middleton’s backyard dog breeder operation, doesn’t it?
Exactly. Orla was likely bred by James and he will sell the puppies at a top price because of the “royal connection”.
💯
Sounds like James is short of readies again.
His book didn’t sell, hardly a surprise as who’s interested in him, and he was last week reduced to flogging his health struggles in the Daily Mirror – a downmarket UK tabloid. The larger circulation press one assumes having turned him down.
James is a registered breeder with the UK Kennel Club and has done public charity work for them. He may have asked Kate not to spay Orla to continue his breeding line; I have a friend who will only adopt out certain animals she breeds if the owners agree to keep their animals “in the breed line.” I am a big believer in animal rescue and would never buy a purebred puppy or kitten, but James is not a backyard breeder.
Backyard breeder is really the nicest thing I can call James Nazi Marshmallow Middleton.
Proof of that? I can find nothing on the kennel club website that has anything about registered breeders. The only “charity” work I could find he has done was presenting awards. Kate and Will couldn’t have gotten a puppy that wasn’t necessary to the breeding line?
You can be a registered breeder and still be a backyard breeder.
Anyone who has ever lived with a female dog while she is in season knows what an intense, messy, and stressful thing it is for the dog, and for the entire household. And if the dogs don’t get pregnant, it happens twice a year. No way Bill and Cathy have been taking care of Orla themselves. And to let her go through being in heat so many times, which also comes with not insignificant health risks, is flat-out neglect. Ugh these people.
But how dark will the puppies be?
Yes, why aren’t those puppies being presented to the public for all the newspapers to take photos?
I guffawed. Well done.
🎯
Spay and neuter your f**** dogs people. It’s f**** stupid and irresponsible not to unless you’re a reputable show breeder.
100% I volunteer with an animal shelter and we are often overwhelmed thanks to people neglecting their animals. I really wish it was the rule that anyone who wants to carelessly breed their pets has to volunteer at a high intake animal shelter for six-nine months first.
Willy’s starting to get a little paunch.
Even though the Queen was a true dog lover, and loved the dogs she had, until Meghan, the WKs had never taken care of animals. The first such photos of Kate with dogs appeared after articles about how the Queen took care of Meghan’s dog and took him to the carriage. Then there was a video of Archie feeding the chickens, so we had an article that now George has chickens. Of course, not a word about Archie.
But the biggest flood of photos with dogs appeared after Meghan’s very warm and loving video, after the loss of her beloved dog, in which the family remembers him and says goodbye.
After that, there was not a photo of the royal without a dog by his side. Everyone, literally everyone had a photo of a dog. Of course, not a word about the loss of Guy.
I wanna see the puppies.
So are cocker spaniels an aristo go – to breed or is this a James Middleton thing? What breeds are considered royal?
QEII famously had her corgis and dorgies, Charles and Camilla have their James Russels rescues, I assume Philip and the Queen had beagles for hunting but you never hear about, say Anne having German shepherds or Beatrice rocking a couple of labradoodles….Just a curious dog lover here 😍
Cocker spaniels not a breed associated with either the aristocracy or the RF. They’re largely seen as suburban, classless pooches.
P Anne has English Bull Terriers and seems to choose ones with almost albino colouring, not the most appealing looks perhaps, C&C seem to have made Jack Russells their breed, whilst historically The Queen, P Margaret and the Queen Mother had Corgis or Dachshunds . Charles II most famously had Cavalier King Charles spaniels, another miniature breed, highly intelligent and sweet natured
Aristocracy seem to reliably choose Labradors, Jack Russells, or English Springer Spaniels.
“The identity of the father is also unknown”
— This is not a scandal?
Because spay/neuter is not as common outside the US. Soooo many intact animals in the UK and Europe. Plus, a 5 yo dog is getting kind of old for breeding.
The tabloids don’t know who the father is. Bulliam and Kate do, because it’s one of James’ breeders, but they don’t want to publicize that because the optics aren’t great. That, or these irresponsible lunatics really do let their “family pet” wander collarless and leashless around Windsor while she’s in heat. We’ll know in a few months when there are cute PR stories about giving the puppies away to friends and family—or not, if some of them go back to James.
