Tina Brown agreed to the New York Times’ feature “The Interview,” which is (you guessed it) just an in-depth interview with someone famous or noteworthy. Tina still has a lot of fans and friends in the media world, even if her last book (The Palace Papers) read like she outsourced much of it to royalist interns. Her Substack, Fresh Hell, makes news when she writes about the British royals (and never about anything else), and she also contributes to the NY Times as a columnist occasionally. By now, I think most Sussex fans understand that Tina is a huge hater, but what’s interesting is when she occasionally tells the truth or spills some genuine tea. Every so often, she admits that, actually, the monarchy needs Prince Harry, and that Harry has more charisma than his brother. But she just brackets those truths with a mountain of ragebait bullsh-t. Speaking of, she spoke about the Sussexes and the left-behinds in this interview. Some highlights:
Whether Harry & Meghan have “anything to offer” the world anymore: “It’s very sad what’s happened to them. I have never seen anybody in professional life make as many mistakes as Meghan has, and unfortunately Harry is not the brightest bulb, either. He thought that Meghan would be his guide in the big wide world beyond Buckingham Palace, and it turns out that Meghan makes one terrible professional decision after another. And now they’re pariahs everywhere, it seems, which is a very difficult situation for them because America was supposed to be the place that paid the bills.”
Harry should go back to England: “What is sad is that Harry’s very good at being a prince. He’s charming, he’s upbeat, he’s attractive, he makes people happy when he walks into a room, he’s very good with young people. You could send him around the world and he’s always going to be welcomed and appealing. And I think he has realized too late that he was born to be a prince. And now he’s essentially just some guy doing P.R. gigs while Meghan tries out her latest cooking idea or whatever. It looks more and more as if Harry’s best decision would be to find a way to come back to England. I’d like to see a way for him to make amends with his family, but it gets harder and harder as the years go by. I think that William is going to be the decider of that, and I think William has a very tough view of the whole situation, which is that the betrayal of Harry is not something that can be remedied.
The most odious person in the media right now: “Oh, God, so many. I’m so disappointed in Jeff Bezos. I saw him as a big savior of The Washington Post, and it seems like he’s just totally flipped. Tucker Carlson really mystifies me. He worked for me at Talk Magazine.
QEII enabled Andrew Mountbatten Windsor: “The fact is that she has quite a lot to answer for with Andrew, is the truth. Because the Queen enabled Andrew in a really terrible way. He was her favorite. She protected him and mummy was his only client, essentially. She was the one who protected him so, unfortunately, it made him worse…he Queen was there for 70 years, right? The hagiography around the Queen is intense, you know? I mean, you’re not allowed to ever criticize the queen.”
Scooter King is dying to clean house: “I think he’s just dying to clean house, actually. Some of the palaces probably have to be turned over to the public. I mean, how much over housing do you need in that family?”

Even though they don’t care for each other, it feels like Tina Brown and Graydon Carter are reading from the same talking points about the Sussexes, and they’re both equally furious that they can’t set the narratives about Harry and Meghan. Tina is especially desperate to portray H&M as unsuccessful, broke, careening from one career to the next, and in desperate need of royal management. I always have to sort of step back and ask myself: is this really how other people see the Sussexes? Because from where I sit, it feels like they’ve got a lot of people rooting for them, they have powerful friends and allies and they’ve done a good job at figuring out their post-UK lives. Has it been all sunshine & roses? Of course not, but Brown’s continuous rants about how they’re doing everything wrong just sound so… out of touch? Delusional, even.
As for what she says about QEII… lmao. I mean, she’s right, but what she’s saying is also beneficial to King Charles, who has been trying to blame his mother for Andrew for years. Charles acts as if he didn’t spend the first three years of HIS reign trying to help Andrew and cover up his crimes.

I truly believe that Tina’s anger towards Meghan stems from rejection. Her leaving wasn’t supposed to the narrative that Tina set for her. Tina was supposed to be dining out on her regular views on Meghan being part of the Royal Family. That’s not happening and like many other British journalists she misses Harry and wants him return to the UK. But they know that he will never will as long as he’s married to Meghan.
This is why I think the hate for Meghan has been so visceral this past year and a half. The divorce hopes are crushing them and they always thought they’d have Harry back soon after he left. Now they see a dying king, a hopeless heir and a dull future monarchy. They see Meghan as a symbol of all that went wrong and shattered their illusion. What’s worse for them is no matter how much hate bitterness they put out about Meghan and claims of ‘failure’ in this or that she still holds her head high, keeps going on, still gorgeous, thriving and not being bowed bent and broken like they long to see her humbled.
I also think that she attempted to get an interview with M and was rejected. I’ve wondered whether she’s seen those interviews which M has done with US journalists and been even more pissed that M said NO to her? 😀 That’s the kind of rejection I’m sensing.
Tina is trolling Meghan, hoping to get her p.r. advisors to set up a background lunch so Tina can traffic in exclusivity of being an insider with her camp. As soon as she does, the sniping will stop. What TB doesn’t understand is that this new generation does need to play the briefing game. Time is better off sticking with the dinosaurs on Salt Island for briefings to feed her Substack. Meghan couldn’t care less and is writing her own narrative quite well..
I don’t think that Tina thinks that she can troll Meghan into giving her an interview. She may have thought that back when they were living in the UK but that doesn’t make sense to think that it would happen now. It’s been five years and never once has Meghan given an interview about that family besides with Oprah and the documentary. The Sussexes said that they wouldn’t work with unethical media from the UK and that hasn’t changed and if it ever did, it definitely wouldn’t be with a hack like TB who always describes Meghan’s husband as an idiot which Meghan knows more than anyone he isn’t. Agree with every post thus far. Tina Brown’s best years are behind her and all the wishing, hoping and dreaming will not cause Harry to leave his created family. He is a devoted husband and father and has chosen the life he wants for himself and his wife and kids. And will do everything in his power to see that they are loved and protected. Well, they’ve had failures which is the norm. But as a royal, those failures would’ve been glossed over by a press that would’ve papered over the cracks. If a huge deal or success is around the corner then the narrative shifts that easily.
Only failures by the keens are brushed over and ignored. That was the case when Harry and Meghan were there working as senior working royals and since they’ve left the UK. The media continues to brush over the failures of the other couple because they know that in comparison the couple they hate is superior to the futures in every way possible.
Except that we have no evidence that theyve had “failures” (including: by whose definition)………..except to the extent that no human being is perfect and by that premise, one would be correct to say theyve had failures. But as to whats in the public domain about their businesses and investments, none of that even hints of smelling like failure.
So in her opinion, Harry is stupid and dumb but he should return to England. Why do they want Harry to return? To return to the the label they created for him so that William can be seen as a smart leader.
It is abundantly clear on an international level that Harry is neither stupid nor dumb. It is also abundantly clear that neither William nor Kate are up to the task ahead of them. Therein lies the problem for the monarchists. The bell is tolling for the monarchy.
One last point, these people keep pointing out that William will never forgive Harry and that he is constantly in a rage against Harry. Not to be an alarmist, but Harry should be nowhere near William. William’s insecurity, coupled with entitlement and rage is extremely dangerous. It is frightening.
I said this a long time ago but that comment never got through: there is NO way Harry should ever accept an invitation to meet William “alone” for any discussion, no matter how appealing the prospect.

It’s interesting (and maddening) to see which white women can’t say anything nice about Meghan and which recognize her game and wish her peace and prosperity. I was at lunch for a friend’s birthday last week with about five other women. Yes, all white. One is an American who is married to a British man, Cambridge grad. Another is Canadian (from Toronto), has a design degree and works as a stylist.
Somehow the topic turned to royal wedding dresses. I said I liked Diana’s the best, because it was such a confection and felt really over the top in a good way. My stylist friend said she liked Meghan’s and wasn’t crazy about Kate’s because of the pointy boob area. As soon as she said that, the one married to a Brit jumped in and cried “No! I hated Meghan’s! It didn’t fit her! It was too tight!”
Now, the latter woman knows how to sew so maybe she saw something I missed. I didn’t remember the dress looking too small, at all. If anything I thought it looked like maybe she’d lost weight. But never mind that. It was just interesting the way she sort of perked up her ears and pounced when someone praised Meghan’s dress and didn’t rave over Kate’s. She’s generally very nice and pleasant, not one to be catty. But her husband is kind of a snob and I’m afraid it’s rubbed off on her.
Anyway, my stylist friend and I just looked at each other. She seemed bemused. She had mentioned to me before that she thought Meghan had great style and seemed to be good at the royal wife thing, so it was a shame she was gone. But she herself has a great eye, whereas my friend married to the Brit is pretty indifferent about design. Make of that what you will.
Okay, that is wild bc the critiques of Meghan’s dress was never that it was too tight. Most people though it should have been a size smaller. I love Meghan’s dress even with the looser fit. Meghan’s dress was lovely in its simple elegance, pity Meghan wasn’t quite big enough for it. Perhaps she had lost weight. We know that Diana had to have hers taken in at the last moment. Wasn’t so keen on Kate’s, nothing outstanding about the design, especially the darts, Pippa was the best dressed at that wedding, again, elegant simplicity.
That interview infuriated me. It was gross.
Tina thinks H&M are “pariahs”? That’s probably because she’s not getting invitations to the A-list gatherings they attend, so in her mind, those gatherings don’t exist.
Tina’s the pariah and the loser, clinging to her long-gone relevance. Maybe be less racist, Tina, and your social calendar will get more interesting.
Tina does sound very bitter and like a lot of these women, herself, Bethenny Frankel etc., they have this particular hatred focused on Meghan. Meghan, if anything, seems to be be finding her stride and working away at her business, while being more visible and having a bit more fun. What more do they need her to do? Go on a world listening tour? Harry is fine, he’s doing what he wants and he’s not going back to deal with William’s messiness and volatility. Why should he? I don’t know why everyone thinks the Sussexes were supposed to take a more political or activist route. It seems them having a Hollywood connection is bothering so many people but these are the people they work with and know. It’s not everything and these same people tend to downplay, by a lot, the Sussexes philanthropic work. Archewell is small and focused but their efforts yield tangible results. I don’t get all this anxiety and hostility from Tina Brown. As for Graydon Carter, another hater, his Air Mail was sold and not under the happiest terms. Sucks for him.

Like all successful people, Harry and Meghan are willing to trying this and that and the other thing. Some of those ventures turn out great; others do not. I admire them
I do love that Tina singled out Jeff Bezos. He is a worm!
If they were in a garage in Silicon Valley they’d be hailed as innovators and makers, whether it was a success or failure. It’s very California. They try different things but they are given a level of scrutiny that downplays their successes and amplifies what I wouldn’t even say failures, but things that don’t go viral but do ok. Sometimes things don’t work out but you can’t say they don’t put the work into it. Obviously the level of obsession shows that their relevance really really bothers certain people.
My God, now Meghan is being attacked fiercely for including a beige Christmas stocking for her next release. The viciousness and rage are off the hook! One bot/person wrote, “Why can’t she even admit she likes beige?” I think this is over her only being allowed to wear muted colors in England, and now they want to skewer her for having beige in her Christmas collection. I have never seen such malice and hatred over a freaking color. The insanity is real.
In one of her interviews or on her show, she was clear abut the fact that she does love neutrals. She has never said that she doesn’t like beige. She said she wasn’t sure what color to wear when in the RF and chose neutrals.
Yeah, Meghan never said that she didn’t like beige or neutral colors. She said that it was expects that less senior royals not wear the same color as more senior royals at joint events so she decided to wear beiges and neutral colors to avoid it. It was evident that that was the case because there were articles whenever other royal wives showed up wearing the same colors as the Queen. I remember one event where it was a huge discussion because Camilla showed up wearing the exact same color of the Queen and it was a big deal. Just looking at Meghan’s clothing choices when she was there, you would see her wearing more vivid colors when it was just her and Harry and her clothes were either very neutral, beige or dark (black or blue) for the occasion. Meghan’s clothing before and since leaving has varied because she styles herself based on the situation or location.
The question is: does Tina Brown have something to offer the world?
Why is she slagging off Bezos? He’s just turned out to be a monarchist, like she is. Is she just very envious?
