One of the craziest parts about the British media’s obsession with the Duchess of Sussex is that they’ll spend weeks or months screaming about one particular thing, and then they go radio silent when there’s a similar story about the Princess of Wales. Here’s one of the biggest examples. For the past year, the British and American press has been obsessed with Meghan’s cooking and entertaining show, With Love, Meghan. Not just obsessed with the show itself – obsessed with the ratings, with the viewership numbers and obsessed with review-bombing WLM. Nevermind that WLM’s first season and holiday special made it into Netflix’s top ten in multiple countries and racked up millions of views. Why accurately report that when these critics can claim that WLM “flopped” and that it “failed” to get the same kind of viewership as a scripted drama?
Well, you’d think those same ratings-experts would gleefully obsess over the viewership for Kate’s annual Together at Christmas show, right? Especially when the 2025 show included Kate and Princess Charlotte’s special piano recital? Surely the most popular (according to commissioned emotional-support polls) royal would be basking in viewership, right? You would expect Together at Christmas to at least break the top-ten most-viewed shows for the week of Christmas, right? Or how about the top twenty? No? Okay, how about the top 30? Wait, Together at Christmas didn’t even make it into the top 50 for the WEEK?

But luckily for Kate, she's not called Meghan so that exact same media will ignore her failure.

According to BARB ratings, Together at Christmas “fell below the 2.5 million threshold” to make it one of the lowest-ranked programs of the week. The 2024 concert got 2.9 million viewers and it was also poorly viewed, but I think the 2024 version cracked the top 50. So… Kate’s one big thing that she does every year has drastically declining ratings, and the most recent concert was a certified flop. In case you’re wondering why I’m using Twitter for this, it’s because absolutely none of the British outlets will talk about it. The same British outlets who breathlessly and cynically doom-reported on everything about WLM’s viewership.

Of course it failed, Keen is a flop and even more so a lazy fraud. Why would anyone tune in to see people singing carols and hymns and Wig fake playing the piano?
It has never been anything more than an ego bath for KM (and Carol).
It flopped as it – genuinely – reflects the minimal interest the country has in KM and the ghastly Middleton crew, and because those wanting to enjoy Christmas music will have watched the peerless “Carols From King’s” – a magnificent traditional service from King’s College, Cambridge. No disrespect to Westminster Abbey but King’s service and choir have to be one of the best on earth at Christmas.
King’s College is the best. I’ve watched it for years, starting with my grandparents when I was a kid. It genuinely leans into tradition and the religious aspect. Non-Christians aren’t going to want to bother with anything even vaguely Christian, not even Kate’s “religion lite plus celebrities.”
Getting Charlotte involved in the fake piano playing was a bit much. Keen played stage mother. I thought she wanted the kids to live normal lives. Charlotte should be in piano recitals at school concerts. Keen never out any time in to study piano. Just basics which were drowned out by her voiceovers
Keen doesn’t care. She uses her children to deflect from her own deficiencies. Even poor Charlotte couldn’t boost the ratings. The problem is, these people will never realise that putting in the hard work will deliver the results they eagerly expect to land at their feet, but alas, you can’t lead a horse to water and expect them to drink it.
Nobody wants to watch on TV a stranger & her kid at their piano recital. Tough enough to sit through those at your kid’s school.

IIRC a couple years ago ITV shopped the Kitty special to US. I think it was PBS that bit and ran it really late. Viewership was <1K. Actually I could be wrong about which special it was — might have been one of Willy’s Earthspit things. Either way same result — <1K.

I couldn’t figure out that piano. There was definitely a large cord coming out from the left and going to the wall. So was it a player piano, or was it some sort of recording device that they used to record and produce (aka enhance) the “performances”?

it’s a Steinway Spirio, where you can have Steinway artists “playing” the piano for you — like a CD, but with better sound, lossless, because the instrument is in a room with you. You can do the playing part yourself — e.g. practice like on a normal piano, no power cord needed.
Or you can record yourself and then manually enhance that recording — by taking the wrong notes/passages out and replacing them with the help of a tablet — which has the score on it that it feeds into the piano — or you could use the keyboard.

My husband and I have been knee-deep in piano research because a Steinway grand is basically his version of the midlife crisis sports car/Harley/boat purchase, lol. Now I know way too much about them, and I’m fairly confident in identifying this as a Steinway Spirio. They’re pretty much the holy grail of player pianos, and they do have very convincing high-res sound, and recording, playback, and editing capabilities. So, yeah…

The 50th ranked programme for the same period in 2025 had 2.7 million viewers, so her show lost well over 400,000 from the previous year even with the mother and daughter recital gimmick being advertised in the press.

Yea I just don’t know how anyone but an older generation of people, nostalgic for the QEII days give a flying toss about the royals of today. I’m not saying she was perfect but she worked as a mechanic during WWII and didn’t leave the palace during the bombings. Compared to the future king who needs a new forever home every year, 10 vacations per year, and “works” like 50 hours per year….who bullied out his brother and harassed his wife…and throws tantrums every day….

After several years of this masturbatory schmaltz fest, I’m still not totally clear on why Kate insists on performing herself. Do any of her usual copykeen subjects play piano or something? It’s not like she has some extraordinary hidden talent. She plays at the same level as a lazy 12-year-old who constantly blows off practice (me. I was that lazy 12-year-old). It just seems boring. I’ve never watched it so I have no idea what the actual aired final product is like, but the concert just seems boring and dull. I dont need fireworks or anything (my favorite christmas “artist” growing up was the Mormon tabernacle choir for crying out loud lol) but this just seems so boring.
The big draws IMO are Westminster Abbey itself (because that is a gorgeous church) and for presumably many viewers, the royals. But you see everything about the royals before it airs. Wasn’t Charlotte’s piano number previewed before it aired as well? So that draw is gone even for all but super hardcore royalists. And I can see pictures of the Abbey online or wherever.
I know there’s music and performances and a choir (I think?) but the whole thing is so centered on Kate that those things seem to come in a distant second or third and so what we have is W&K and their kids in nice clothes sitting in a church.

The comparison between Kate’s concert & the service at Kings College, Cambridge, which plays on my repeat cycle on iTunes all of Nov & Dec, every year, is equal to the contrast between the future Kween of Keen and the late Queen Elizabeth II. One is authentic, vulnerable, yet possessed of surprising verve and conviction to carry you through to the new year; and one is sappy and self-promoting, with no stamina for the long bleak haul through winter, much less an historical era. I mean. Come on. This is always what kind of gets me about the way they hook Meghan into these dynamics: she never *pretended* to be a symbol of the state, or the nation. She was a good vibes agent and an excellent advocate for less fortunate people, she gives heart and joy and also practical assistance where it counts. I mean. They do not report on Kate’s and Willy’s Flops because they do not want this info added to their records. When research is later done to write biographies on these Royals, this info will not be added as it will not have been documented. The same can be said about Meghan and Harry, so many sources are reporting the lies about them that future biographers will feel comfortable reporting these lies as truth.

I think Kate used Charlotte to try to get better ratings but it failed. Charlotte seems like a nice kid but Louis is the one with personality to spare (pun intended). Next year Kate should have Louis play piano with her and then ratings may go up.

She has stated that she plans only to do things that bring HER joy- how completely narcissistic is that? How about doing something that brings OTHER people joy?
