Donald Trump fired DHS secretary, dog killer and ‘ICE Barbie’ Kristi Noem

The first time then-South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem got any kind of national exposure, it was when she wrote a memoir in 2024 and she included a horrific story about shooting her family’s dog Cricket because Cricket annoyed her. Before that story, Noem had been something of a rising political figure in the GOP, but that dog-murder story seemed to dampen her shot at ever holding national office. Months later, Donald Trump appointed Noem as his secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, overseeing ICE, FEMA and a million other agencies. As head of DHS, Noem oversaw ICE agents murdering American citizens, a mass kidnapping of immigrants (regardless of their actual immigration status), the formation of secret prisons and Alligator Alcatraz and a complete breakdown of, well, everything. And now Noem is out at DHS.

President Trump fired his embattled homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, on Thursday and announced plans to replace her with Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, after she was grilled by Republican lawmakers this week at congressional hearings on a variety of topics, including her knowledge of a contract with a politically connected firm.

Mr. Trump announced the change on social media, along with a new, and previously nonexistent, role for Ms. Noem: special envoy for the Shield of the Americas, which he said would be a new security initiative for the Western Hemisphere.

Mr. Trump is close with Mr. Mullin, a Republican, and speaks with him regularly. Mr. Mullin said that Ms. Noem had “done the best that she could do under the circumstances,” but that he hoped to learn from her tenure and “build off things that didn’t quite go as planned.”

Ms. Noem — the first cabinet member to be ousted in Mr. Trump’s second term — had been among the key figures in the administration fulfilling his mass deportation effort, which he campaigned on aggressively and which was heavily influenced by Stephen Miller, a top White House adviser.

[From The NY Times]

For months, we’ve actually been hearing that Trump was less than enthused with Noem’s performance. It actually seemed like Border Patrol agents murdering Alex Pretti in Minneapolis in January was a point of no return – after Noem and JD Vance tried to double-down on why Pretti’s murder was A-OK, Trump didn’t back them up whatsoever. In fact, that marked the beginning of the end for the Trump administration’s larger fascist push within Minneapolis. I’m not trying to make Trump sound like he did a good thing for a good reason at all – I’m saying even a demented madman like Trump understands that Noem was nothing but bad optics 24-7. Trump doesn’t care about the rule of law or democracy or America, but he does care about optics. Having this plastic-faced broad banging her sidepieces on government planes, handing out government contracts to cronies and then fumbling every interrogation she sat through, it was all too much for Trump. Cricket’s Revenge. Also: the new DHS guy Markwayne Mullin is a MAGA idiot too, but he probably (??) won’t be such a scandal-magnet.

  1. Smart&Messy says:

Great, should have happened right after Renee Goode was murdered. Or even before if tragedy could have been avoided. Now what about Pam Bondi? Optics were awful at her deposition. Trump keeps appointing people whose looks he likes: Hegseth, Bondi, Noem, back then Hope Hicks, Rex Tillerson etc. All because they look the part in his casting fantasy. I wonder who convinced him about Vance, he certainly does not look like anyone’s casting fantasy. I wonder how long he will last, since Trump does not give a shit about making him look like a fool by making him defend abhorrent crimes and contradicting him the next day.

    • Mac says:

Trump gave her a fake job to protect her from perjury charges.

      • Theresa says:

She is not protected from perjury charges or any other charges. Charges are going to be filed against her and others…this is just the beginning

      • BeanieBean says:

A couple of senators have now started an investigation into her $220 million ad campaign. $220 million of tax payer dollars used for her to play dress up & get her picture taken in various locales.

    • Elly says:

Bondi is now subpoenaed to testify about the handling of the Epstein documents. Will our Attorney General lie under oath? She’s looking scared and guilty. She knows she’s in a no win situation.

    • Leidy says:

Vance was chosen by the tech bros to be their mole inside the administration. They introduced him to the Trump boys, Uday and Qusay, and the rest is history!

    • BeanieBean says:

I’m thinking she should have been fired after all those little girls died at that summer camp in Texas after the massive floods. She was out of the country on vacation & her signature was needed to release FEMA funding (or something like that). HER signature, and only her signature would do. I find this odd, since I worked as a fed for the better part of three decades and every time some higher up person went on vacation they would circulate a ‘who’s acting’ email. She held up search & rescue for a vacation.

  2. Miranda says:

…WTF kind of redneck, white trash, bumpkin-ass name is “Markwayne”?

    • Gabby says:

I would say that’s the gold standard in redneck names 🤠

    • Sue says:

Story goes that his mother couldn’t decide between the two names. Really. He’s the Renesmee Cullen of MAGA.

    • Anne Maria says:

It’s an awful name. He’s awful. But he is in fact Cherokee. So trash, but not in fact white trash.

      • BeanieBean says:

Sh*t, he is. Just googled & found he’s an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation.

      • Lens says:

He’s from Oklahoma which in their red state race to the bottom is 50th in the nation in health care and goes between 49th and 50th in education. All you need is an R by your name and they vote for you there. Unusual in the fact his educational background only goes up to an associates degree in construction. He is a plumber but a nepo baby plumber since his daddy started the business. But Trump thinks he looks good on television. He is arguably less qualified than Kristi noem who at least was a governor.

      • J.Mo says:

Apparently he’s about 1/128 Cherokee. I don’t agree with blood quantum to define Indigenous membership but the Cherokee have the largest population because of pretendian members like him.

  3. Alice B. Tokeless says:

Replaced by the ONLY Senator without an undergrad degree. The same asshole who tried to square up in the middle of a hearing, and Bernie Sanders had to scold him like a Head Master at a little boys’ school. If it’s possible, he will be much worse. He’s a bully with a huge chip on his shoulder and an adolescent need to look like the toughest guy in the room. We’re doomed.

    • Smart&Messy says:

“He’s a bully with a huge chip on his shoulder and an adolescent need to look like the toughest guy in the room.”
Now we know why Trump chose him. It’s either “insert dept name” Barbie or a small-dick-energy bully who Trump identifies with.

    • Emcee3 says:

IIRC, the Sanders scolding was when he challenged a union leader to a fight (nearly rising in his seat) *during* a Senate hearing & the YT clips went viral. He really is the embodiment of the lughead inexperienced politician Tina Fey wrote about in Bossypants:

“I’m not one of those fancy Harvard heart surgeons. I’m just an unlicensed plumber with a dream and I’d like to cut your chest open” And the crowd cheers.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Bernie could have been of use for once by letting “Markwayne” and the idiot Teamsters president beat each other to a pulp. Stopping them was an unforced error.

    • FYI says:

Markwayne Mullin is the poster child for incompetence. It’s mind-blowing that someone who has never served in any military, does not have a degree, and stole millions from our government (PPP loans) is worth $75 million. Seriously, that is effed UP.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

He also lacks any law enforcement experience even though law enforcement is DHS’s main focus. He’s no more qualified for the job than Noem was.

    • DK says:

Yeah, MAGA Markwayne Renesmee Cullen (thank you, @Sue above for that!) will absolutely be as terrible and as scandal-ridden as Noem.

He’s been auditioning for this job by going on the talkshow circuit and insisting on inane, contradictory views on Trump’s War of Choice with Iran; by physically trying to snatch a sign that said “Black People Aren’t Apes” [in ref. to Trump’s racist post about the Obamas] out of the hands of a Congressman during the State of the Union; and his educational void has been filled with ignorance, racism, and hatred, just as Trumpstein-land likes ’em.

And yet, plenty of Dem. senators are already saying “his nomination won’t be controversial,” because petty, mean, incompetent behavior from their Congressional colleagues has been so normalized and I think some (most?) Dems truly lost the plot and can’t remember that ALL of this is abhorrent behavior that should be an impeachable offense, not cause for promotion.

He will do worse things as DHS Secretary than Noem, and he will get away with it, because he’s a man. As others have stated, Noem was more likely fired for f***ing someone who is NOT Trump on company time and property, and for throwing him under the bus on the advertising slush fund. Not because of the atrocities she committed, but because she overstepped her place.

      • Mac says:

I’ll take an incompetent di*k over a competent monster who can fully implement Trump’s sick agenda. Talk was they wanted to put Glen Youngkin in the job which have been so much worse because he knows how to run a huge bureaucracy.

  4. Amy Bee says:

I don’t believe she was fired for the murders in Minnesota. I don’t think he really cares who ICE kills. I think he fired Noem because of the rumours about her and Lewandowski.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Also, people around Trump convinced him, because that’s how he operates. He thinks what he hears last from the Trump whisperers around him. They just whispered how Noem earmaked 200mill of the newly allotted DHS deportation funds for an ad campaign centering herself. That’s treason in Trampland, to promote yourself to more visibility than the Dear Leader.

    • Theresa says:

She got fired because she said that chump approved her $220 million ad campaign

    • FYI says:

He fired her because she testified that he definitely approved her $220 million spend on advertising, for which heads will roll. He didn’t want her saying that he approved it, even though he probably did.

      • QuiteContrary says:

Yep, the buck stops anywhere but on Trump’s desk. Her cruelty and corruption played no role in her firing.

      • Daisychain says:

Yes, and my suspicion is that he resented herself for centering herself in all those ads and trying to set up herself for the next MAGA POTUS. Trump will not tolerate anyone taking the spotlight away.

    • Mac says:

      @Amy Bee 💯

  5. TN Democrat says:

Let’s celebrate the small victories. The hearings/public testimony did some good because at least this c#nt is gone and mango is running scared enough to make a show of firing her. The bug eyed little freak running the FBI will be next. Mango mainly embiggened desperately incompetent white men in his orbit. He only has a few women/minorities to scapegoat before the evil moronic white men in his orbit start falling. Winter has come for 47s enablers and inner circle because he knows the public has turned on him.

  6. Hypocrisy says:

Does she have to return her Mar-a-lago face now that she has been terminated?

  7. Jenny says:

Good riddance to bad trash. That profile pic is inspired choice. I can’t make up my mind up about “Trumps’ Tramps” they all have this vacant dead- inside look that evolks a combination of rage/pity I’ve never felt before. They offend my feminist soul to its core.

    • Giddy says:

Hard agree! That Trumpian plasticized look gives me nightmares. Combine that outside with the empty cavern where their soul and heart should be and Voila! Trump’s Tramps!

    • FYI says:

Just think of that poor dog every time you feel a shred of pity for her.

  8. Jay says:

Although yes, it’s clear that Noem got fired, they didn’t get rid of her – she’s been “promoted” to be a “special envoy” for America. So she’ll still be around, taking taxpayer funded jet trips, she just won’t be in front of the cameras as much anymore.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Yeah, special envoy in some kimd of special peace task force… Just as you said she can keep funneling money to herself and lead a jetsetting lifestyle on taxpayer dime. Not having the visibility is a bonus.

      • BeanieBean says:

And where is that line item in the budget, I’d like to know? I read about this new made-up job in this new made-up agency & thought, what the h*ll? Did Congress approve this? Did Congress put this in the budget bill? Was it hidden somewhere in the 800+-page Big Billionaire Bill that nobody actually took the time to read? You can’t pay somebody a wage in the federal government if that job doesn’t appear on an org chart somewhere, an approved org chart at that. The grift is deep in this regime, y’all, the grift is deep.

    • megs283 says:

Yup. While many valuable government offices have been shuttered in the name of cutting waste, she will get paid high six figures to do NOTHING.

    • FYI says:

I dunno. I doubt she will get access to a fleet of jets. I doubt she will be allowed to live in that government housing that she stole from the Coast Guard. She’ll be “around” the same way that Kimberley Guilfoyle is “around” — drawing a salary, but practically in DTs from the lack of attention.

I even doubt that Lewandowski will stay with her.

    • Felicity Fox says:

Special envoy for the Shield of the Americas? Is that his bathroom attendant who places little disposable gold paper protective covers for each toilet seat he’s about to use? Or his diaper keeper and restocker? The only shield he wants is for 1- himself…hmmm, yeah that’s the whole list.

  9. Emcee3 says:

According to the screen grab from his TS post, a new position has been created as she will be:
“…will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere”

They crafted some Marvel/DC Comic spin to save face on her epic cabinet fail. Expect the US taxpayer will remain on the hook for her hair & makeup team.

  10. Mslove says:

Markwayne will be a scandal magnet because he’s dimwitted. He violated the STOCK act, said journalists would write fewer false stories if violence were used to handle disputes, and claimed taxpayers don’t pay his salary. His arrogance and stupidity will be the downfall of all of us, probably.

  11. Gabby says:

Well, she couldn’t get elected dog catcher now, BA DA BA!

I hope she can’t escape the commentary from both sides of the aisle that everyone is overjoyed to see her go. Because she seems incapable of remorse, I will be satisfied if she’s just blisteringly humiliated for the rest of her days and that the filler in her face melts into weird shapes.

For any of you who haven’t watched the video of her testifying before the congressional group, I recommend you do. It might restore some ofyour faith in this country.

South Dakota, when you are ready to apologize for sending her to the national stage, we are ready to listen.

In loving memory of Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Cricket and the unnamed goat. The world is better because you were here.

    • Giddy says:

Kaiser called this “Cricket’s Revenge” and that’s how I will always think of the firing of this frightface, plasticized, heartless demon. Bye bitch.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

@Gabby: the western half of South Dakota, west of the Missouri River, is some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. The Badlands, the Black Hills. Breathtaking. But their politicians suck so bad. And the people will never apologize. Hardcore MAGA.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

It is worth noting that several Native nations in SD have denied Noem the right to enter their reservations.

    • Leidy says:

Four stars for that testimony. Republicans were dragging her ass, too. Tillis (R, retiring) ‘I don’t want to hear anything from you. This is a performance review!’

  12. Mrs. Smith says:

I read elsewhere that it was Noem spending $220 million for a DHS campaign (starring her) that Trump says he did not agree to. Noem, however, insisted that he did approve it during her testimony this week. She’s rankled everyone, but once she contradicted Big Orange publicly, it was over for her.

  13. Gabby says:

Also, there was testimony released yesterday from some DHS/ICE whistleblower about the training that ICE officers received about how to bypass people’s constitutional rights. It’s even worse than we could’ve thought.

  14. Visa Diva says:

Noem’s not gone yet, she was demoted and god knows what chaos she’ll causes as the shield of the Americas

  15. Leesa says:

To pretend that she wasn’t doing exactly what Trump wanted her to – which was to terrorize people into submission – is nonsense. She was just there to take the fall for it

    • Mightymolly says:

Yes of course but it’s a good reminder that he has no loyalty and those who do his bidding will eventually pay the price.

  16. Amy Too says:

Her skin is begging her to lay off the heavy foundation for a bit and let it breathe. And that side pic of her really shows how deeply unflattering the blow-up doll lips are. Good riddance, dog killer.

    • Smart&Messy says:

She does have princess hair though!!

    • Sue says:

Her skin is begging for a moisturizer. Any moisturizer. If she can spend $220 million on a propaganda commercial, she can spend $12.99 at CVS for a half decent face lotion.

  17. Brassy Rebel says:

Stephen Miller is the one who should be fired. It’s his policy. And Trump should be impeached for putting a Nazi in charge of immigration policy. But I’m just a dreamer who can dream. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Felicity Fox says:

This. Stephen Miller is the puppet master and most people have no clue about the number and length of those strings he is very quietly working with scary skills.

  18. Mina_Esq says:

The new guy used the word “irregardless” in a ten second video I saw of him. I can’t get past that grammatical travesty.

  19. FancyPants says:

I know these people have zero self awareness, but I think it would be psychologically facinating to know what she is thinking right now. She went so far as to surgically altered her physical appearance to appeal to this orange turd, she genuinely thought DHS secretary would lead to a presidential nomination, and he ripped the rug right out from underneath her while she was making a speech without any warning, and she goes from flying around on private jets with a huge security detail to… what? Temu S.H.I.E.L.D.? Anyways, very sad, may she spend the rest of her life being prosecuted for crimes against humanity.

  20. MaisiesMom says:

I didn’t realize that in addition to killing her dog, she killed a goat. That came out in the hearing but it was also in her book. And the guy questioning her (Tillis I think?) was big mad about it. Apparently she didn’t do proper goat care that every farmer should know and ended up killing the goat in a fit of anger, which seemed to enrage him more than the dog.

Sorry I will always think of this woman as “The GOAT Killer” from now on.

  21. Jenny says:

You’re right FYI, pity is inappropriate and wasted on her. My husband has taken to muting our TV anytime Leavitt, Bondi or Noem appear…just “protecting our peace” he says. I’m not sure why I hold the women to a higher standard but I do.

  22. marci-m says:

She is really, really, sorry. It just doesn’t show on her face, because she cannot move it.

  23. This is long overdue — and frankly, it should have happened the moment she posed for a photo in front of detainees locked in a cage. As for Noem and her alleged lover, one can only hope that accountability follows them out the door. Raggedy bitch.

This affect that Lewandowski has on the women in that administration proved how depraved they are.

    • FYI says:

Word just hit — Lewandowski got fired too. Wonder where he will land. This is the THIRD time he’s been pushed out of Trump’s administration.

  24. Constance says:

She isn’t fired unless fired includes another job probably paying more than 90% of Americans…

  25. kelleybelle says:

That side-shot of Noem is hideous. Yikes! Those are some overdone cheek implants and fillers. Holy moly …

  26. Sean says:

Now Kristi and Corey will have to use her husband’s bed if Corey’s still able to perform…

  27. MerlinsMom1018 says:

Take it for what it’s worth but I read lewandowski also quit dhs.

What REALLY set me off is the fact I that she REFUSED to answer if she was banging lewandowski. With her husband sitting right behind her. I felt bad for him for less than a nano second before I started screeching with laughter. Scared the crap outta the cats.

  28. jferber says:

I have a formerly secret hunch that Trump bedded every woman who works for him, including his two sons’ wives. It’s just something he WOULD do because . . . degeneracy.

  29. bisynaptic says:

LOL Will she get to keep the plane?

  30. Sara says:

I live in Minneapolis and, although media coverage has moved on, ICE has not. They’re still here, terrorizing our community. We were all told the surge was ending; it has not.
