Duchess Meghan filmed a guest-judge appearance on ‘MasterChef Australia’

Woke up bright and early to laugh at the Derangers melting down over the Duchess of Sussex appearing on an Australian TV show. Last night, I watched as Prince Harry turned up for some solo events, and the Aussie reporters were like “where’s Meghan, what is she doing today?” As it turns out, she was probably filming her appearance on MasterChef Australia! The new season of MasterChef Australia begins this weekend, and I would guess that Meg is a guest judge at some point early in the season, in a pretaped episode. Didn’t she appear as a guest judge on various cooking shows/competitions when she lived in Canada as well? She also appeared on Chopped Junior in 2016. This is a return to what she loves. She’s such a foodie.

Let me run through the go-to complaints: why is she using her title, why isn’t she using her title, I thought she wanted privacy, she’ll ruin the hallowed space of a reality cooking competition, everyone’s going to stop watching your show now that Meghan is on it!! Someone call the waaaaaambulance!! They’re already on MasterChef’s Instagram account, bitching and moaning.

Incidentally, regarding her name, on MasterChef’s Instagram account, they refer to her as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. In the clip from the show, they say “the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.” On Tuesday, Meghan was asked how she would like to be addressed and she said “Meg.” There are currently British commentators screaming and crying over “why isn’t she using her title.” The volte-face will be extraordinary when they see the title being “used” on MasterChef.

They are on full meltdown mode!!! They are visibly overwhelmed and unable to manage the situation. I found it genuinely amusing to read the comments, as they ranged from comical to incredulous.

    • Laura says:

Legitimately deranged – MCA comments are usually so supportive and kind and I was kind of shocked at the level of idiocy… (looks around the world) then again maybe not 😣😣

      • Marti says:

I figure given how the Australia trip couldn’t be under the radar, Willy had ample time to employ bots and trolls. And voila.

The only game the BRF has is PR. It survives only by constantly reminding the taxpayers everyday of its presence and shining the turd it offers for the tax-free billions it takes over the years from people. Neither Charles and soon to be king Willy want a better version of BRF.

Like Brexit, Harry and Meghan are the vile “others”, haters can hate on. Brexit got the vote based off hate and fear. Just like Trump and MAGAs. That’s why the world is where it is today. Winning!

      • FloridaWoman says:

Oh my goodness. Half the negative comments look like cut-and-paste botfarm fodder, and the other half look like people who have been chugging the royal family kool aide. Why is it so bad to earn your own living? If they want to identify the grifter, Kate is right there.

  2. Tessa says:

Some derangers insist the sussexes lost their titles. Then carry on about their leaving the children home. And it’s a faux royal tour. They seem to have scripts

    • Dee(2) says:

So I don’t understand why they ask why they don’t bring their kids with them. Who brings their kids with them on the business trip where both parents are going to be in meetings all day? Most of their trips are during the school year, and they are holding meetings all day long, why would you take two kids under 10 out of school to bring with you?

Look at yesterday, after getting off an all night flight they rolled right into the hospital visit. Archie and Lili would have just been at the hotel exhausted and cranky probably. And then look at all the stuff Harry did with the military, why would you have a 5 and a 7 year old with you? Or filming MasterChef?

Even discounting the fact that they made it very clear that they’re not going to be parading their kids around, most people would leave their kids home when they plan to work 16 hour days.

    • Becks1 says:

      they absolutely have scripts.

    • Nerd says:

Derangers are showing us why the nickname is perfect for them. They are all over the place and are so easily manipulated to believe anything as long as it aligns with their ignorant narrative. In the past six years UK royals and media who have tried to convince us that the Sussexes lost their titles while in their next breath they refer to them by those very same titles. They have spent over two decades referring to a woman who actually divorced one of their royals as Duchess of York even when she was selling books to make money while living in a royal residence.

These same people aren’t barking about the other couple leaving their children for days when they go on tours. They remain silent when celebrity couples or high powered couples who work leave their children for several days to fulfill their work obligations. This isn’t a new concept that only Harry and Meghan do. All over the world working parents travel and instead of disrupting their children’s lives by dragging them around the world with them, they leave them at home safe, protected and loved with someone they trust while their parents work. All of the royals have done this, including the late Queen and Diana. People of various financial backgrounds have been doing this forever. This isn’t new and it’s not something to attack any parents with. This is just the derangers being upset that they can’t force this couple to expose their children to them so they can attack them.

And this faux royal tour is getting more attention than the left behind royals get with their tours. I think that’s what the problem is. They are upset that Harry and Meghan still make the other royals look like the backup royals even though they are no longer senior working royals and they aren’t financially funded by the public. It’s the need for Harry and Meghan to be 50% less.

      • Irisrose says:

‘Duchess of York’ was her divorced title so it was accurate to use that until recently. ‘HRH Sarah, The Duchess of York’ was her married title (yes?)

Fergie’s first few books were published with her HRH and married title – for profit and while she was a working royal. One about Osborne House and a couple of the Budgie books.

      • Tessa says:

Fergie lost the HRH. But after that she became Sarah, Duchess of York (no HRH) Some writers mistakenly called them the Duke and Duchess of York after the divorce. They were not longer a couple He was HRH Duke of York and she was ex wife, Sarah, Duchess of York. Had she remarried she’d have had to give up the title she got in the divorce. She can’t use the title now after the scandal so she’s known as Sarah Ferguson, apparently.

      • Irisrose says:

He was HRH Andrew, The Duke of York. The ‘the’ matters

Yes she lost it at divorce but only because of Diana. Fergie was keeping her HRH until diana traded hers for more settlement money months later. That was when qeii issued the Letters Patent about HRH and divorces.

      • Nerd says:

Again my point is that Harry and Meghan being referred to by Duke and Duchess of Sussex is correct and has never gone against who they are or the agreement made with the royal family. They are both still royals and they aren’t using their HRHs for profit. So the left behind royals, derangers and media complaining is not justified based on the fact that they still on occasion refer to them by their titles and because of Fergie still being referred to her title even though she was no longer working for the royal family and she was no longer technically a royal.

      • Irisrose says:

Neerd, Fergie being ‘duchess of york’ without the HRH and the ‘the’ was her divorced name. That is how it works with aristocratic titles. It had nothing to do with being a working royal.

    • Lamb Chop says:

They have scripts because they’re not real. Stop taking them seriously or reading their comments. They’re not actual people for crying out loud. By even clicking and reading you’re amplifying the paid b##s.

      • Magdalena says:

        THIS.

      • Laura says:

        Good good point 👏👏

      • Kingston says:

        @Lamb Chop

Thank you for this timely reminder. The thing to do is just take a second to click on the accnt that irritated you and if their followers number in the single or low double-digits, just scroll on by and forget that scathing bitchslap you were going to post. Bcos what you wd be responding to is a bot/ an inanimate creature. Then remind yourself that the nasty comment was deliberately posted to rile you up and in responding, all you’ll be doing is giving the algorithm more reason to feed you more hate-posts about M. And no Sussex supporter wants that.

  3. Dee(2) says:

Oh wow this is nice. I did wonder if she was going to pop up on a morning show like Today or GMA doing a cooking segment, since she has done those before, so this will be fun to see.I wonder what the menu will be for her episode. I’m not into reality TV like that, but cooking shows are probably the ones that I can tolerate the most, as long as they’re not ridiculous with the countdown clocks and competition.

As for the other stuff it’s just an eye roll at this point. She shouldn’t ask to be called The Duchess of Sussex, she also shouldn’t tell people to call her Meg. She should only be doing charity work, she’s not suitable to be doing charity work, she should leave that to the royals. She’s not going to get taxpayer money or security they need to pay for it themselves, but she shouldn’t be earning money that way, or that way, or that way ……

  4. Inge says:

She truly is the perfect guest judge for this, I love the exitement & the pause before announcing.

    And yay no leaks!

    • S says:

Perfect! I’m really looking forward to seeing this.

    • Deborah says:

I freaking love MasterChef Australia. It is the best MC of the franchise, imo. I cannot wait to watch the new season, doubly so because Meg’s episode will make it feel like subversive viewing! lol

  5. Brit says:

I love the tears. They are literally all over the place crying. What’s hilarious about this is that these same defenders and monarchists are digging a hole for the monarchy itself. Prince Phillip wasn’t wrong when he said they would be the downfall of the monarchy. It’s the way no one cares that’s cracking me up. These people have no idea what to do. Literal breakdowns in press and online, lol.

    • Eurydice says:

Around 9:00 last night, we had a huge rainstorm – the salty tears came around the world.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Lol I love it too. I expected something like this to happen when the Variety hit piece was published to the BM’s delight. In a few weeks the Sussexes would have some super successful announcements and events. And BAM Australia announcement, the Netflix cooperation announcements, Ted Sarrandos and Nicole practically smothering Meghan in loving embrace on camera and now the Oz visit being even more amazing then we expected. I hope she announces an international launch for her “flop” As Ever brand. Lol I can’t wait for July when Brits will turn out in real crowds for them in Birmingham. Teeeheee

  6. Nerd says:

This is exciting news. I have always hoped that she would maybe one day return on a cooking competition show again because she was so good and sweet with the children. She has always been a foodie so it seems to be in her element and a great fit for her. Happy that these two are making the most of their time while in Australia.

  7. Chantal1 says:

Oh the histrionics! Someone get the smelling salts! Keep shining Sussexes!

  8. Inge says:

Also, re the Insta account, I commented how exited I was & that she was a perfect guest well most of the derangers commenting had private accounts.
(I block on sight. Bye Felicia)

  9. Jan says:

Meghan and Harry can lock their Sh*te down, the press was salivating that they had all the Sussexes plans.
Yesterday, they were asking Harry, where Meghan was?

    • Cassie says:

Here in Oz I have been loving this new found positive media reporting .
It’s been a real master move for them coming here .
People are seeing them for who they really are and they are winning a new legion of fans .and a lot of respect ,

The left behind royals must be fuming ,

      • seaflower says:

I’m so enjoying it too, especially the ones that normally have a snark are suddenly big fans.

      • Smart&Messy says:

Thank you for the local insight. I have read a little of their media coverage in Oz before, but the ones I saw were all snarky and negative. I’m so glad to hear that it wasn’t reflective of the general public perception of them.

      • jais says:

I’d be curious if anyone tries to gauge the difference between the Australian and British press in terms of this visit. I know the Australian press can be nasty with the Murdoch influence and what not but so far it has seemed much better than the uk press. I saw a bbc news report in which they interviewed “regular” Australians about the visit and it was almost like a comedy sketch. Every single person was negative and said something that sounded scripted from the British tabloids. One person said they were irrelevant, one person talked about them trashing the queen while another person said they didn’t even know or care about it. But it came across as so contrived, like they were given a script or specific talking points and the selection of people was very clearly curated to support the BM bias. It was wild actually.

  10. Jais says:

Okay, Meghan and Harry really said we don’t give a f-ck. Respect. Bc this will have people crashing out. They’re already crashing out. I just heard Robert Jobsen have the biggest meltdown I’ve heard in a very long while on bbc radio. It was epic. Anyways, when is the full episode out bc I want to see it! This is so cute. I love that Meghan is doing this.

    • Hypocrisy says:

Now I’m going to be searching for that BBC interview lol.. I don’t live in Australia but I will be searching YouTube for the episode Meghan is on

      • Jais says:

It was #bbc5 live with Ruth Burden? I listened to a recorded clip on Twitter. Hopefully it will make the rounds bc whew it was something.

    • Brit says:

I listened and it was hysterical. They are only making it worse for themselves and the monarchy they love so much. They’re just jealous and bitter because they have no access and are stuck with duds. The host said no one really cares, people are interested in the Sussexes and basically they’re funding their own trip, lol. The press are so divided because you can tell some desperately want them back and some want them punished for blocking/ignoring them. What we’re seeing in real time is the press and monarchy at crossroads because they’re paying for decisions they made.

    • Becks1 says:

They really are crashing out and I dont think they realize how pathetic and….well, deranged…they seem.

Look, I’m not fan of William and Kate. You all know that. I talk about them on here but what do I never do? go to a social media account of a place they visited or the like and insult them, insult the place they visited, etc. I dont create hate accounts focused on dragging W&K on a daily basis. I dont write endless articles (besides on here, lmao) about them.

I dont really like the Kardashians. So I tend to just ignore them. I cant even keep them straight to be honest lol.

What’s the saying – if you’re following everything I do and everyone I hang out with, you’re a fan?

      These people are all fans.

This is the british media’s own fault, but they were also enabled, encouraged and egged on by the royals, so there’s lots of blame to go around here. They have clear buyers remorse here and they know they bet on the wrong horse and all the other metaphors at 830 in the morning……but oh well. Too bad so sad. In the meantime I’ll enjoy the crashout.

      • Inge says:

I will remind people of what William said about his mother when people try to paint him as a loving son.

      • Brit says:

@becks. Exactly. It’s getting boring at this point with the constant attacks and outrage. They really don’t know what to do because the press clearly needs excitement and money. They’re also losing money but the royals are losing influence and are receiving indifference from the public. You realize Harry and Meghan leaving really disrupted an entire ecosystem that the press and palace took for granted. It’s karma.

      • Jais says:

Same. I don’t post or go into the comments of any organization to talk about people I don’t like. I just ignore them. I go to places to comment about people I like. I don’t past about people I’m indifferent to. It’s unhinged behavior imo. And it kind of just makes people more famous really.

      • windyriver says:

It’s been driving the BM in particular crazy, because they haven’t been able to force that horse back to the barn. Such has been the malevolent power of the UK tabloid press that for years they’ve been able to successfully sell whatever twisted narrative they choose to get whatever end result they want. In this case, not only did they fail to force Harry and Meghan back to the Windsor coven, but the attempts to vindictively damage and destroy them are also failing. They don’t know what to do with themselves.

      • LRB says:

The stay behinds have a lot to answer for as well because we all believe they feed the hate via stories given to the BM. Where are Willi and Kate atm?

      • Nic919 says:

Same here. When I realized the royal gossip reddit was a Meghan hate fest, I went elsewhere.
There is no point arguing with a bot or a hater. It’s like MAGA. If they are even real people, they are just racist sad people and it is better to not waste energy.

But derangers want to invade positive spaces. They try here all the time. But the less we bother with them, that means they lose.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

      1. I love Meghan was invited to do this appearance.
      2. Cannot stand Robert Jobson(along with his other RR denigrates). Won’t listen to his meltdown. He told us exactly who he is when he made a “joke” about dangling Archie over a balcony. What rational effin adult makes that type of comment? Sooo wrong.
      3. Never watched Master Chef Australia in entirety. Saw some clips over the past few years. Will watch for Meghan.

  11. Bluesky says:

They are upset because it is ruining their narrative: no one likes her, everyone is sick of her, she’s a pariah, yada yada yada

  12. Amy Bee says:

This is exciting. Meghan’s gone back to her roots. I’m loving the deranger meltdowns about this trip and I just heard a clip of Robert Jobson crashing out about it on BBC radio. It was hilarious.

  13. Interested Gawker says:

It’s so nice seeing H&M thrive on their own terms.

  14. NoBS Please says:

This is such a win for Meghan. She’s indulging herself and entertaining others with something she genuinely enjoys, cooking with and for other people.

And the way she’s sprung this as a total surprise on the derangers – priceless!

It says: “F-you haters, I’ll do what I enjoy doing, with people who appreciate the same things as me” and as this is being a foodie, there are PLENTY of takers!

It also gives the hateful royal rota a new topic to write a gazillion whingeing articles about for the next week – kerching! They should thank Meghan.

  15. Sure says:

Masterchef Australia isn’t just “an Australian TV show”. “It has established itself as a global phenomenon, often considered the most successful and popular version of the franchise in the world….It is broadcast in over 170 countries, with a significant following in countries like India, Malaysia, and Singapore…..It has been recognized by global television demand awards as the most popular reality series in the world.” IMO, appearing on MCA is a bigger deal than appearing on, say, The Drew Barrymore Show (that’s probably because I’m not America centric).

    • Becks1 says:

Well that’s good to know. I don’t even know if I can watch it here in the US. Maybe on youtube?

      • BeanieBean says:

Yes, I just googled & found it there. Previous seasons are already up.

      • IdlesAtCranky says:

        @Becks1

I’m not a huge fan of YouTube, so when I looked up MC Australia, I found it listed as available both on Tubi, older seasons for free, and also on Prime…

    • Sure says:

I rhink MCA is also pretty popular in the UK. Brace yourselves for the media reaction following the airing of M’s episode.

    • Lamb Chop says:

Yeah, I am in Australia some times and other countries other times but I’ve seen a few eps of masterchef, I mean they have had nigella ,Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay so if they want to denigrate the show then those British nobs are included.

  16. S says:

I enjoyed this take by JP Canabo (https://unpacked4.wordpress.com/2026/04/15/meghan-on-masterchef-australia-is-the-joyful-plot-twist-we-all-deserve/):

“MasterChef Australia is actually quietly radical. It’s anti-elitist. It’s multicultural without making a fuss about it. It treats home cooks, many of them migrants, women, working‑class people, and people of colour, as worthy of celebration. In the MasterChef Australia universe, a Nigerian jollof, a Vietnamese bánh xèo, and a Maltese pastizz all get the same reverent close‑up. It’s food democracy. It’s decolonial joy.

And then along comes Meghan. A woman who has been relentlessly picked apart by the British press for daring to exist while Black, American, feminist, and unwilling to play the obedient supporting role. Her presence on the show feels like a tiny but brilliant act of narrative reclamation. Instead of being framed through racist tropes or palace politics, she’ll stand in a kitchen where the only hierarchy that matters is: does it taste good? She’ll be a mentor, not a target. A foodie, not a trope. A woman whose expertise and warmth are welcomed, not weaponised against her because, ahem, others aren’t so expert and warm.”

  17. StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

I love it when the Sussexes work harder to say f- u to the lazy royals back in the palace

  18. Snail says:

Charles and Cam did a guest appearance on MasterChef Australia ffs. But, different rules for different people, right?

    • Jais says:

      Did they? That’s funny.

    • Lamb Chop says:

neither Charles nor Camilla can boil an egg. Meghan is an excellent cook with a food business. It’s bizarre they would go on that if they actually did. I do remember dancing with the stars or some such laughable show.

      • Irisrose says:

So what? Charles once did a weather report and he’s not a meteorologist. C&C were invited as a royal engagement so they went. That’s their job, to visit places and promote things.

      • Tessa says:

Camilla was on Strictly Come Dancing, for an episode.

      • Debbie says:

And they both appeared on American Idol, didn’t they? C & C I mean.

    • Iolanthe says:

I watch Masterchef Australia religiously..yes they had Charles and Camilla on one episode where the contestants were asked to cater a meal for an event featuring native ingredients. I remember Camilla sampling ants .They have celebrities on , generally ones with some connection to the show ..Katy Perry was invited because she sang their opening theme song . Meghan has toured Australia before plus she knows food and wine and cookery ..not like Kate with her mangled pancakes and playing barista at Burrough market . So who are these derangers crawling out of the woodwork . Are they real or planted bots ? Aussies seem to adore the Sussexes and are normally very open hearted

  19. Over it says:

Remember i thought at Easter that Kate looked exhausted even though she is currently on vacation? Well I have been cracking myself up with laughter ever since I saw this news, because if you think she was tired before , imagine what she will look like after 4 straight days of Harry and Meghan good news and popularity. Not to mention how wank will be raging out . That woman is going to need a vacation to get over this . 😂😂😂😂wank probably having his cocktail hour 24/7

  20. YankeeDoodles says:

I have never watched any Master Chef show but I will now check out the Australian version!!!!

  21. Franca says:

  22. aquarius64 says:

The crashout IMO is due to this is an area the BM can’t spin Kate can outdo Meghan. Kate’s cooking skills:

    https://share.google/80iXJtAXc2FhZspky

Also it’s a good marketing strategy for Meghan for her As Ever brand.

  23. QuiteContrary says:

I wish the announcer hadn’t called her the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle … she doesn’t use Markle anymore. But that’s nitpicking. This otherwise looks fantastic.

    • Irisrose says:

Agree. From Her own comments they have legally changed all four of their last names to ‘Sussex’

    • Magdalena says:

From what I have seen, all the Australian television reporters seem to have got a memo telling them to emphasise MARKLE, and it’s not just about the accent. Even when they have said “The Duchess of Sussex” there has appeared to be a degree of reticence, but their voices have definitely gone UP and emphasised her former last name right after practically whispering the “title”.

They have no problem using Brooklyn Beckham’s new last name “Pelz Beckham”, they have no problem occasionally mentioning “insiders confiding” that Kate has used “Cambridge” and then “Catherine Wales”, they have no issues with other married women taking their husbands’ last names but for some reason, it sticks in their craw that Meghan uses hers.

That MasterChef announcer could simply have stopped at The Duchess of Sussex or said Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. I actually cringed when she added the Markle. Fairly certain that when the arrangements were being made, they discussed how she would be announced. I cannot imagine that Team Sussex would have signed off on her being announced as “Markle”.

      • BeanieBean says:

It is kind of odd, now that y’all mention it. Wouldn’t it be standard to ask, how would you like to be introduced? What should we call you? And not just for her, for all guests?

    • tamsin says:

Also, I think it’s totally incorrect.

  24. MsIam says:

I get those shows confused, is this the one with Gordon Ramsey? My husband is the foodie so he watches these shows as much as he watches sports. Anyway, it sounds like fun and the other Royals have been on cooking shows before so you can put away the smelling salts.

  25. tamsin says:

I must say that it’s very thoughtful of the Sussexes to be making this trip to Australia right now. It’s before Charles’s misbegotten visit to the US and the Wales family are on one of their numerous holidays leaving the BM to vomit all over the public unless they stay out of the way by not paying attention to them. After this week, the BM will be back to propping up an unpopular king and queen, and dull prince and princess of Wales.

    • jais says:

You would think Charles would be happy about the distraction bc to me it would seem embarrassing to be visiting Trump. And yet I’m getting the vibe that Charles is once again mad that his headlines are being trampled upon and that this Australian visit is overshadowing…his visit with Trump.

    • Unblinkered says:

      @Tamsin & Jais – so true!

  26. BeanieBean says:

Yay! What a fun gig! Go, Meghan!!
