For the Sussex family’s UK trip, I expect that there will be some news this weekend, and I expect that there will be some additional roadblocks thrown in Prince Harry and Meghan’s path. I still think that Thomas Markle will be dusted off, probably for a big Mail on Sunday story. If we know anything about Harry’s terrible brother and father, it’s that they will always rely on a wealth of lies, shenanigans and chicanery. In the meantime, people are still focused on the security issue. According to Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair, Harry has been “close to tears” since he learned one week ago that his family would receive zero security.
Prince Harry is still intending to bring his family to the UK next week despite a fiasco over his security arrangements that has left him “close to tears,” a source tells Vanity Fair.
Harry, whose trip is in support of next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, confirmed to news outlets on Friday that he was bringing his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to England for the family’s first visit back to the UK since 2022. But within hours of issuing the statements, the duke performed an extraordinary U-turn and was reportedly reconsidering bringing his family, after he was told that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) would not be providing full-time police protection during the trip.
Tax-payer-funded security is determined on a case-by-case basis by RAVEC and is usually only offered to full-time working members of the royal family. (When Vanity Fair contacted the Home Office, a spokesman confirmed its position remained the same.)
Despite the setback, a spokesperson for Prince Harry has said he is currently exploring “every available option” to come over as a family on July 7.
While King Charles has offered the family a suite of rooms at a royal residence—believed to be Buckingham Palace, where they would be completely secure—the Sussexes, who were planning to travel around the country, have been told they will not receive full police protection, which might have included a police motorcade for when they are traveling. (Representatives for the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)
Despite not having round-the-clock security since Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020, Harry had hoped the security arrangements would be changed for the purposes of the trip. When RAVEC informed the Sussexes this would not be the case, hours after they reportedly issued a detailed op note about the engagements they planned to carry out, the Duke of Sussex “was devastated and close to tears,” a source told Vanity Fair.
“He had assumed that because he was bringing the kids, and the king had made a royal residence available to them, he would get what he has been pushing for all along—full-time police protection. That has not been the case,” the source said. “The king has made it clear that while he wants to see his estranged son and grandchildren, he will not intervene in security matters.”
“From speaking to people close to him, it’s clear he is stressed and very disappointed in RAVEC’s decision not to give his family the security he believes they need to have to be safe when they are traveling,” the source added.
“The king will not intervene in security matters” then why was the risk assessment paused? A more honest statement would be “the king will not intervene in security matters to ensure that Harry and his family are safe, but the king will absolutely intervene to punish Harry for leaving.” Nicholl is a mouthpiece for Prince William and Kate in particular, and you can see that in her framing, as if Harry should have known better to not expect security… when he’s in the UK on official business for Invictus, which the UK is hosting. As for Harry being close to tears… I know that man is bumming out Meghan on their Portuguese vacation. I hope he hasn’t spent this entire week dealing with this.

I would believe that I have sources in the Sussex camp before she does. This is fantasizing about how they feel, or how certain senior royals and courtiers want them to feel. If Harry was near tears this week I would imagine it would be in anger and nothing else.

Chris Ship was interviewed for ITV he seems positive towards Harry, he said that on Harry’s last trip.to Nottingham he didnt even have Poloce protection just his own security, he said it was unbelievable!

Also, it was never ever claimed prior to this that he and the second closest set of literal heirs to the British throne would be left without security while in the UK.

Agree this seems like the best and safest course. No doubt Harry is working the phones furiously behind the scenes to ensure security at the last minute. But this is probably the Sussexes’ fallback plan. It would be awful to subject the kids and Meghan, as they travel between Charles and/or Earl Spencer and/or wherever else, to the British press without proper security.

Back when the Sentebale thing happened, so many people were rightly predicting that Invictus would be next. Making it difficult for him to have security while highlighing the risks he will be subjected to during the events, seems like a first step into this direction. I don’t think that any announcement will happen this weekend, the behind the scenes negotiations are probably still taking place and there are many players involved. I can only imagine how furious the IG committee is, as this directly impacts the event and will cause them to wonder if security will be an issue next year for the Games themselves.
The city of Birmingham has to be extremely concerned. They have an economic stake in this and are invested in a successful outcome.

I was thinking of the same thing. Harry, Meghan and the kids should still go but those children should be kept completely out of view. They should spend happy, peaceful time at Althorp and the only photos would be taken with the Spencer family and only shared by Harry and Meghan if they feel like it. This VF article is full of disinformation designed to make the RF’s decision seem reasonable. It also uses the distraction of portraying Harry’s problem as a soap opera. But blocking someone from traveling to partake in business, social or cultural life is a human rights abuse — a weapon used many times against persecuted minorities and political refugees.

For crying out loud, that’s not RAVEC’s purpose! Royals and VIPs, Katie! You can bet when the “working royals” teams arrange public engagements they also arrange police protection, let the host city know if a motorcade will be necessary or if they will arrive by helicopter. How many barricades to keep the protesters at bay, school buses with children? Everything gets arranged by the Palace and Palace security, not RAVEC. Security travels with the royals and additional police are there when they arrive.
RAVEC’s job is to arrange security for NON Working members of the RF and VIPs, depending on risk assessments. Don’t try to sell me that the RF doesn’t have automatic assessments every few months, depending on intel the Home Office gathers.
Harry. Meghan, and the children are royals and VIPs. It is RAVECs job to provide risk assessments and security. I really wish someone would hold them accountable for not doing their jobs. Clearly the palace intervened to punish Harry. It is a shame how they not only disregard his safety, but also the safety of children and of course the public. Do they want someone to shoot at an event? WellChild? Scotty’s Little Soldiers? How many innocent bystanders dead or injured wouldn’t “disturb the public unduly” should someone decide to “take the traitor and his witch” out?

The Invictus Games should never be about whether or not Harry can get security for his children and Meghan. It’s not about them. The Invictus Games is about wounded warriors. Because the issue of security for his wife and children have become center stage, Harry should just state that Meghan will not be participating in any of the Invictus events but she sends her love and support. I fear that if this circus continues, sponsors will begin to see Harry as more of a liability to this event than an asset and that is exactly what Charles and William want. RAVEC made it clear that if they got Charles permission they would provide security. Harry just doesn’t want to deal with the fact that his father and brother are pure evil.
Why should Harry, the Founder of IG and without whose initiative all these veterans whose lives he’s literally saved, would not have been saved, PLUS the thousands of other vets/WIS service personnel overbthesebpast 10 yrs whose lives and that of their FAMILIES have been blessed because of H’s initiative, be made to suffer from the exclusion of HIS WIFE…HIS FAMILY to satisfy the depraved desires of amoral ghouls for the destruction of IG.

I have never been accused of being a deranged before so this is a new one. I am looking at things like an outsider looking in, and as a person that has handled both mid-management marketing and Human Resources in a company with over 700,000 employees nationwide. My opinion was not stated with malice, and it was also not stated without rational thought.
Sometimes you have to step back from a situation when things aren’t going as planned, redefine your actual goal, make a critical assessment as to what is preventing you from achieving your goal, remove barriers to achieving that goal, and move forward. The goal is to successfully promote the Invictus Games. Meghan shouldn’t be part of that equation period.
What I suggested just basically jumped to the endgame, which is to successfully promote the Invictus Games. Meghan is a personal goal for Harry and that is why I suggested to eliminate her from the equation. That is the PROFESSIONAL thing to do and the right thing to do for the sake of the Invictus Games.

I call BS. I do think Charles is covering Harry’s security, but it’s a secret. I don’t believe Harry would have signed off on this trip with his kids and Meghan without that promise and guarantee. People is reporting that Meghan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet, will not accompany Harry to London when he arrives in the U.K. next week. Congrats Chuck, Egg, and the Royal Rota for getting what you want. I hope it burns.
I just saw that on BBC and came straight here. The safety of his family matters most. This is probably the best decision right now, but how heart breaking for Harry to yet again be foiled in plans to share his homeland and mother’s memorial with his children.
I’m not at all worried about Charles. He’s the friggin’ KING OF ENGLAND. If he wanted to know his grandchildren, he’d make that happen. In the celeb world, traveling between CA/NYC and London is just a Tuesday. It’s insane how hard it is for Harry and his family.
