Since the Sussex Return was announced, there’s been a lot of talk about Prince William’s likely reaction to the news, not to mention the reality of his brother’s family living in the UK as of last Wednesday. The royal commentators made William sound like he was “apoplectic” and wrathful about the Sussexes’ return. Well, I don’t know about that. I mean, I guarantee that plates were being smashed and the Wiglet Closet was in shambles, but the way William and Kate are moving right now, it’s not giving “incandescent with rage.” It’s giving “terrified.” They’re scared because they have competition, scared because they’re not in control of the narrative, scared that King Charles is maneuvering behind their backs. Well, Katie Nicholl let the proverbial cat out of the bag in a new piece for Vanity Fair. Nicholl’s Wales sources are making it sound like William and Kate have been completely “derailed.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, where they are planning to live long-term, Vanity Fair can report. While Prince Harry is said to be thrilled to be back on British soil, a source tells VF that Prince William and Kate Middleton have been “derailed” by their sudden arrival, which has sent shockwaves through the royal family.
“There’s a sense that William is going to have to be watching over his shoulder the whole time. He doesn’t know what his brother is going to spring on them all next,” the source said. “This was meant to be a happy time for him. Catherine is doing well and George is just about to start Eton. This has just derailed them.”
Meanwhile, William and Kate have been spending time with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other senior royals in Scotland, where, the source tells Vanity Fair, they have had a number of talks with Charles about Harry and Meghan’s plans to make the UK their primary residence. While palace aides have denied reports of a Balmoral “summit,” VF has been told the senior royals have had several discussions about Prince Harry and Meghan’s return and how it will impact the work of the wider royal family. VF has also been told that Prince William and King Charles have spoken “one-on-one” about the couple’s return to the UK and are “on the same page” that Harry and Meghan will remain private individuals and will not take on royal duties.
While aides for the Sussexes insist that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to become working royals in the future, Harry is said to be hoping to reconcile with his family and spend more time with his father.
“Charles is genuinely happy that Harry is back, because it means they will see more of him and the children, but I do know that he is dreading the prospect of Harry resurrecting his battle with the Home Office over security and the sense that the Harry-and-Meghan soap opera is about to start all over again,” the source added.
Harry is said to be seeking a change to his security arrangements now that he has returned to the UK. In May 2025, Harry lost an appeal for taxpayer funded security. But now that the Sussexes are returning to the UK, it is understood that the Home Office will review their security situation. Currently, only working royals are granted state-funded police protection. King Charles and Prince William are both said to be “completely aligned” that there will be no change to Harry and Meghan’s status as nonworking royals.
“Prince William is very concerned about the Sussexes coming back and why they have made the decision so quickly,” the source added. “He is adamant the situation must remain as it is and that Harry and Meghan will not carry out royal engagements. He has sought his father’s assurance there will be no changes to the present situation.”
While it has been reported that Meghan will attempt to resurrect her acting career and has been offered a role in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix drama The Gentlemen—a deal VF is told is still on the table—Harry’s plans are less clear. He will be focused on next year’s Invictus Games and is expected to continue his other charity work and business roles including public speaking and his not-for-profit sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst.
Prince Harry is looking to take on more charity work in the UK, according to two sources close to the prince. He stepped down as a patron from Sentebale, the charity he cofounded, following a fallout between the organization’s chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka, and five of its trustees. On Monday, Harry stepped down as a trustee of Africa Parks after 10 years.
While William and Kate will not be throwing a welcome-home party for the Sussexes, there is talk that Harry’s return could lead to a reconciliation between the brothers.
“There have always been tensions between William and Harry, even before Meghan came on the scene,” said author Andrew Morton, “from who would get the biggest room at Balmoral to their charities. But those tensions are greater now than they have ever been. The brothers are at opposite ends of the spectrum. By coming back home, Harry has changed the narrative and William is fuming. I think there will be pressure on William to be the bigger person and forgive his brother, but I think that is still some way off.”
“VF has been told the senior royals have had several discussions about Prince Harry and Meghan’s return and how it will impact the work of the wider royal family…” I’ll bet. I’ll bet that William has been wailing and carrying on. I’ll bet that William wants loyalty tests for the family and their senior staffers. And I think Nicholl’s source is correct – William and Kate have been completely “derailed.” In the past six years, they’ve been derailed every single time Harry shows up in the UK, or any time the Sussexes do anything. One has to ask about the popularity, strength and schedule of a future king and future queen if the simple reappearance of Harry and Meghan has left their world turned upside down.
Nicholl also made another comment to Hello (via Yahoo) about “In many ways, Harry’s really got William over a barrel because it will be very difficult with them being geographically so much closer and Harry being welcomed back into the royal fold by his father, at least, for William to be adamant that there will be no reconciliation.” Billy Over a Barrel!

None of their puzzle pieces match their narratives, it’s so bizarre. And it’s funny to me how all these royal rats are going on and on about Charles and his heir are on and on about being on the same page that prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will not be working royals, like huh? The Sussexes are on record, countless times stating they don’t want to be working royals. Hey, that was the reason they left the UK in the first place, they wanted to only be part time whereby they would go somewhere just to represent the queen. Queen has been dead for over 3 years, and the Sussexes have never shown any desire to come back to the royal fold. So, I don’t get the “are on the same page” part regarding Charles and his heir, making it sound like the Sussexes are kneeling on the sidelines begging to be let back in as working royals. Like the decision of Harry and Duchess Meghan being working royals is not Charles’ and/or his heir’s decision to make, its entirely up to the Sussexes and they’ve said unequivocally that they don’t want to be working royals. Like, the Sussexes don’t want any of that life no more. If they did, they would already have gotten on their knees and groveled and I’m 1000% certain Charles would take them back in a heartbeat no questions asked.
God they need better PR people. A man returning to the country where he was born and raised with his wife and children (one of whom was also born there) should not cause such a crisis. My theory: Kate had unexpected surgery for an ongoing issue (reproductive? intestinal?) and later, extensive pathology revealed pre cancerous cells. This was all during, and maybe caused by, a major marital crisis that happened around Christmas. The surgery completely screwed William’s plans for the future. The Middletons hold a lot of cards now. But so does William. Kind of like the sicko relationship between the tabloids and the RF…a toxic quid pro quo. They’re all bloody unhappy and on edge and the stupid system of inherited titles is to blame.

My theory is that the scar still visible on Kate’s face happened as a result of whatever took place on December 28, 2023 that had a convoy head to a hospital in London and then a follow up plastic surgery to remove scar tissue for the scheduled January 2024 date which require two weeks of hospitalization and kate hiding her face during that whole time.
The healing still showed a swollen face in the car ride with Carole in early March 2024 and during that time the Middletons were renegotiating Kate’s status with the family Melania style, which is why William was mostly hiding or showing up drunk to investitures.
The fake family photo was to pretend the TMZ car photo didn’t exist but of course that blew up and William blamed Kate. That gave her more leverage to negotiate a better deal because in March 2024 this all blew up with the missing theories since at that point no real information was given for her return and the Easter date was scrapped. William went with the weird market walk with the blurriest iPhone ever and when that didn’t work, the bench video was done solo by Kate.
Clearly at some point the Middletons got the deal they wanted because Carole shows her face to Ascot while Kate still hides her face, and they throw in another photo where a pap “accidentally “ saw William and Kate in the car but Kate happened to be turned away from the camera so her scar side wasn’t visible.
Etc etc. and now Kate won’t ever really have to work much again because of what she has on William. He will have to step up eventually.
The only twist is that Kate remains insanely jealous of Meghan so she will show her face more only because Meghan is in the UK.
And I won’t be surprised if Kate claims to have a health setback in the next six months just for more attention.
They both need so much therapy but until they do they will stew in their envy and be miserable.
Whereas Harry and Meghan will shine and the locals will remember what they lost.

That narrative doesn’t account for the scar over her eye, the debut of new teeth at her return to Trooping the Colours, the pains a segment of William sympathetic media took to insist she had been seen by members of the public, culminating in the use of a body double for Kate (and perhaps William) at a Windsor owned farm shop, a Mothering Sunday photo so obviously fake the manipulated ones KP subsequently released afterwards never looked as bad as that one withdrawn and rejected by international news gathering services and a video produced by BBC STUDIOS (NOT THE BBC NEWS DIVISION) with zero credit to human participation (no gaffers, no director, no hair and makeup, no lighting crew, etc.) in front of a pastoral background with entirely static flowers, bench slats that defied natural perspective proportions and ‘Kate’.
The Middletons ’had’ cards. They are on the defensive again these days so whatever they were triumphant about to strong-arm William to participate in their ‘happy families’ video must have been depleted.

So I’m not completely on board with the timeline (maybe bc I don’t know why we all accept a twitter video of an ambulance convoy as fact that something happened to Kate on X date), but what I do think is that whatever happened in January 2024, it wasn’t a straight cancer diagnosis. And while I think Kate held the cards at one point, I think she longer does.
Kate is the one who looked at a camera and said it was cancer. Kate is the one who talked about her port. Kate is the one who has repeatedly talked about her cancer recovery. If it was not cancer, if she didn’t undergo chemo or wear a port etc – then William has HER over a barrel.
The cancer free thing is weird to me as well. I have never said I’m cancer free, instead I celebrate each cystoscopy that shows “no evidence of disease.” Even remission is hard for me, because I have relapsed lol. I prefer no evidence of disease myself. Other cancer warriors?
I was told from the get-go that mine was a chronic cancer and the remissions would get shorter each time. There are plenty of new treatments coming on the scene but, eventually, the body can only handle so much ‘treatment’ and it (the cancer treatment) kills you. Do I know some people with different cancers that were caught early, treated aggressively and they have yet to see a relapse? I do, but not one of them would ever tempt fate by saying, or allowing to be said, that they are ‘cancer-free’.
I was diagnosed to a low grade bladder cancer after having my kidney removed. I’ve been in treatment with a form of chemo directly put into my bladder once a month for about a year now and a cystocopy every 3 months. I don’t have all the reactions to chemo with this because it’s centralized to my bladder. Maybe she had something like this but it didn’t put me on the sidelines or affect my every day life.

I see no reason that William and Kate should be derailed by the appearance of Harry and Meghan. Although I can understand why Kate is embarrassed about the knowledge of her concern about Archie’s skin colour. Charles seems to be coping with a similar concern better. I think the return of the Sussexes makes this whole working vs. non-working royals business much more vague and fuzzy. Harry wants more charity “work” and if he gets it, the Windsors are going to consider that royal work. But he’s supposed to be a non-working royal. You see where this is going. It will be a problem. Even more so, since W&K will be forced to do more and I suspect that’s what’s really derailed them. No more long disappearances during school breaks. No more weeks at a time with no engagements. All because Harry is out there doing what is considered by the Windsors to be the monopoly of “working” royals.
Harry and Meghan both actually work at philanthropy whereas Mumbles and Bully just … mumble and bully. Haha, the Billy Barrel! Harry and Meghan are going to do way more than them and it will raise questions about why the British people put up with anger bear and the mannequin.

All the other working royals put in a few hundred engagements at minimum and outside of Charles and Camilla, don’t get the same level of perks for it at all.

My theory: Kate had unexpected surgery for an ongoing issue (reproductive? intestinal?) and later, extensive pathology revealed pre cancerous cells. This was all during, and maybe caused by, a major marital crisis that happened around Christmas. The surgery completely screwed William’s plans for the future. The Middletons hold a lot of cards now. But so does William. Kind of like the sicko relationship between the tabloids and the RF…a toxic quid pro quo. They’re all bloody unhappy and on edge and the stupid system of inherited titles is to blame.
They keep reiterating that Charles and William are in agreement that Harry and Megan will not be working royals. My dudes, I promise you Meghan does not want to be a working royal again. And y’all know it. As for Harry, please, I’m still one that believes he would not want anything that puts restrictions on him from the Windsors. So no he doesn’t want that either. Might he want to place some wreaths and visit some military charities? Yeah but he can do that without being a working royal. Again being a working royal is not the grand prize they’re making it out to be but they have to front like it’s something important or it loses meaning, the monarchy loses meaning. The storyline that Meghan and Harry don’t aspire to that makes the monarchy look weak. Which they are. So they gotta make it sound like they’re the ones not letting that happen when that’s just not the reality.
100%. And they are just going to seethe when Harry does something spectacular (like the Invictus games!) and they can’t claim it for the Crown.
He’s going to be a non-working royal—but one who works more and more effectively than they do, and probably will draw huge crowds and much media attention. That’s what they’re worried about. And quite frankly that does threaten them and the monarchy because Harry working in the UK will make clear that they’re a bunch of freeloaders who mostly do work to keep the pitchforks away.
Bingo. That is the threat from Harry and Meghan. They do charity without costing all the money William and Kate do.
All the other working royals know the drill and try to look busy. William and Kate are so arrogant they cannot and have never been bothered to do much at all.
@Nic919 trouble is W and K have never had any concept of duty or believed you had to be seen to be believed or that a life of service was in return for living in luxury. All this foaming at the mouth that half in half out wasn’t allowed for the Sussexes when the actual heir and future consort work far less than any other working royal. I bet Anne holds them in contempt and while Edward and Sophie are happy to be essential and included they must worry about William dragging them all down.
When Anne did the interview saying there was no need to reinvent the wheel she was pointing at William and Kate as much as she was Harry and Meghan. The impact days of bs were out there before she said what she did.

My personal wish was that the Labour government had offered him a position with the relatively new Envoy for Veterans Office, which will likely be doing lots of work with Invictus and other related organization, not in his capacity as a royal (so not a patronage) but as someone with honest to goodness expertise to share. Then it could be relatively short term ( until Invictus) and it could give the government a face-saving way to provide him and his family security without dragging the ravec process out into the light again. Not to mention he would genuinely be an asset, I think this is what they call “wish-casting”, isn’t it?
However, I think that if this were the case, something would have been announced, and also his mention of a possible “commercial” venture seems like it would be a conflict of interest. Still, I can imagine!
What have H & M derailed? The heir and his wife are lazy and think photo ops are work. I think that charities will seek out H & M for help which will cause the heir and his wife to rage with even more jealousy. The problem is that the man child and his stalker turned wife are so illiterate, immature, and lazy that they don’t comprehend that the outdated ways of the men in grey no longer work in this modern day. They keep hiring the same type of people hoping that they will magically turn into Meghan & Harry. The only thing that will be derailed is their endless secretive holidays on the taxpayer dime. I also think that people will get tired of seeing the Middleton family indulgence in royal activities on the taxpayer dime. People will become more vocal about why non-working royals bring more attention to their charities than the working royals. Then it becomes, “Why do we need a monarch?” The heir initiated the downfall of the monarchy by terrorizing his brother and sister-in-law. He should have left them alone.
I don’t buy that W & K were derailed, since they’re actually very good at derailing themselves, but I do suspect they have been officially muzzled.
Charles is said to be delighted to spend time with Harry and the children . Excuse me but is Meghan f-ing invisible? And how Delighted could you really be if you won’t give Harry and his family the security they need . I don’t know why they moved back there but I sincerely hope Charles was not a factor because he doesn’t give a shit about Harry and his family and if they live or die and those are the facts.
Eh, he’ll spend as much time with the Sussex family as he does the Wales family, which is not at all. They only see each other on ‘work’ occasions–church walks, Trooping, Remembrance Day, that Christmas lunch (that W&K frequently skip), etc.
William and Kate have a busy life, or they should. He’s heir to the throne and has a whole system protecting and revolving around him. They have three children and a lot of patronages. I would think they have plenty to keep them moored. Of course it’s unsettling when your brother who has been a thorn in your side is back in town, I guess. But William has the upper hand, doesn’t he?
How can anyone so doltish, incandescent (tho low-wattage), and reactionary have the upper hand? He has the entire machinery of a thousand year old institution at his disposal and he still looks like what he is, a lazy sulking wanker.
My parents actually lived through world war two in Liverpool and the May blitz 1941 saw the Docks and city repeatedly bombed. Keep calm and carry on was their war time saying. Where is Will ‘s stiff upper lip? Why doesn’t he keep calm and carry on ? Many people right now are going through hell like Nepal? Why doesn’t Will focus on using his platform to do good and help others instead of bitching because his brother moved house? He’d be better thought of if he just focused on all the positives in his own life compared with the devastation in Nepal.
That’s my point, though. He has all these systemic advantages, and plenty to distract him, but he can’t not think of his brother once Harry is back on his turf. It’s ridiculous.

If your brother returning to England in a personal capacity is derailing you, then there’s a bigger issue that needs to be discussed. If William and Kate’s ability to fulfill his royal duties is “derailed” by the return of his brother, that says everything about how lazy and emotionally stunted they are and nothing about Harry and Meghan.

Eh weren’t we told that the Sussex departure had taken away W and K right to quality time with their babies? Much anguish over NOT doing the blinking school run every again because they’d be out in the fields working so hard instead to compensate for less royals? Never happened and I’d like to see them both earn their keep by doing more than the paltry numbers they usually post. I can see them sulking and doing a lot less in retaliation just to underscore that no one tells Wilbur what to do and definitely not work more!! By that time their kids will be old enough to do some heavy lifting. Even if a year or two from now. They will march them out at every event. Gorge is the heir, Charlotte is the spare, and Louis is the spare spare. I don’t think for a minute that they will protect their kids from doing something to help the firm.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting. This news has derailed the UK tabloids. Their usual ‘palace sources’ haven’t delivered. The ‘royal experts’ are floundering . They are writing rubbish. It’s clear that many don’t even know what the Cotswolds are. Some are writing about the reactions of what the Sussexes’ ‘Cotswold neighbours’ think.
The Cotswolds is a designated protected area of natural beauty about 90 miles long and 20+ miles wide which runs through six counties. Since the children will be day pupils at their new school, the identity of the school will pinpoint their location. Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate is located in the Gloucestershire section of the Cotswolds and the Tindalls live on the estate with their children attending a prep school as day pupils. I suppose one possibility is that the Sussexes have bought or are leasing a property on Anne’s estate. This would have security already in place.

Is this middle school we are discussing here? I think it’s time for William and Kate to grow up. I have no issue with them spending family time during school breaks. But they can certainly do more royal work during the rest of the time- even Kate. They don’t have to be best friends with Harry and Meghan, but they do need to be polite and cordial. Many families have issues. Everyone benefits from being nice to each other. Just my humble opinion.

What time hasn’t been happy for him recently? Aside from his wife’s illness? His grandparents died, but that was expected. They were very old. His father has been sick but seems to be doing all right, all things considered. His brother took himself off to America six years ago. If William hasn’t managed to be happy at all since then (and before then), that’s on him. Not on Harry.
Oh man, William is STILL going on? Yes, it’s sad/funny that he hasn’t been able to stop screeching about how those terrible Sussexes are invading “his” island and might end up doing work that will showcase the Wales’ incompetence.
My question at this point is about why his comms team hasn’t taken away William’s phone – all he’s done is complain to his favourite rota members. Yes, dude, we know that you hate Harry and you don’t want him to come back, but the king and the courtiers and the government clearly want him here. What good does it do to scream to the world that you were blindsided (because nobody trusts you or includes you in big decisions) and also your feelings are hurt, so your brother should be punished? It’s incredibly childish, yes, but also ineffective. Charles isn’t going to read Katie Nichols’ column and suddenly change his mind, barring Harry from being in Britain. If William wants to throw his toys out of the pram, hold his breath, and never leave his house until Harry is gone, that’s fine – the British taxpayers will barely notice a difference from his usual schedule.
I hope they flounder forever bc of the return of the Sussexes.
