Chet Haze knows people paired him with Adele and he wants her to call him

Kaiser reported on the hullabaloo Adele started the other day when she posted a photo of herself in Bantu knots and a Jamaican flag bikini top. I will not weigh in on the controversy because I read many of your comments. I see the argument on both sides is pretty complex and I would be better served shutting my mouth and educating myself instead.

In the initial discussion, many people jokingly mentioned Chet Haze, the son of actor Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, because of his patois spouting personality. And, like Beetlejuice, enough people said his name for him to appear, making about as much sense as he usually does. Chet graced us with this little gem on Tuesday:

Chet was doing so well there for a while. He was sermonizing verse and some inspirational thoughts to those struggling right now. He even dropped off from social media to focus on some other stuff, preferably to hang out with his daughter and make more videos like this. Then we start talking about him and bam! he’s back to his alter ego bs. Please joke responsibly, people. We don’t have time for this nonsense.

In his video capitalizing on people paying attention to him, Chet rocks out to Adele’s hit, Set Fire to the Rain, while sitting in his truck. Hethen offers Adele his support of her look, specifically the hairstyle, which I’m sure is the opinion Adele has been waiting for with bated breath. Following his rousing (?) endorsement, Chet breaks character, starts speaking in his normal accent and mouths for Adele to call him. Now there’s the collaboration we’ve all been waiting for. Unfortunately, this little jaunt down faux-patois lane reignited Chet and he posted in his accent again yesterday, only – again – he can’t keep a consistent accent for the full 30 seconds. Whatever, live your life, dude – Adele’s not calling.

Or is she? There was a second round of Adele what?! going around on Monday when she supposedly left a comment during the Brandy and Monica Verzuz battle that read, “Wah Gwaan! Yow gyal, yuh look good enuh.” But, as Hollywood Life pointed out, the comment could be manipulated as it appeared in a screen cap and Adele hasn’t commented on any of this.

This just isn’t fair

This is the ONLY bad thing Tom Hanks has ever created…

    • smcollins says:

Everybody produces a dud now and then.

I’m sure it’s not easy being in the shadow of TOM HANKS but Colin seems to be able to navigate that and is successful in his own right. And doesn’t TH also have a daughter who seems to live a relatively normal life out of the spotlight? This guy on the other hand…ugh…he’s ridiculous.

    • holly hobby says:

Hhahah! Good one. Chet also has a brother named Truman. I think Truman went to school in the Bay Area because it made news when Tom was there and bought out or helped sell some troop’s girl scout cookies.

But yeah, it sucks when you raise a unproductive black sheep. I do think Tom tried to help him. Chet got a part in Greyhound although I don’t know which part that was. He did not stand out.

      • ME says:

I think he was on the show Empire for a while too right? I just don’t understand why he continues with the cultural appropriation when he knows it’s wrong. He must do it for attention. This boy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and this is what he does with it? Jeez.

  2. Appalachian says:

Chet is a landfill of wasted potential. All the opportunities in the world but he wants to be trash.

  3. Flamingo says:

Does anyone worry that their kid is going to turn out to be a Chet Haze? He has two seemingly lovely parents, every opportunity possible, and siblings who seem quite normal, and still he turns out like this.

    • Abby says:

Yes, yes I do. My husband and I work really hard and hope to give our kids a financially stable life. Maybe even more than just stable. BUT I have seen what wealth and privilege can do to kids raised even by great parents and it scares me.

Chet just ugh, so gross to me. I can’t stand him.

    • Mel M says:

For sure I do. We don’t coddle our kids or spoil them but we show them love and give them attention and try and figure out root issues and deal with them. We are involved but don’t helicopter and want them to figure things out themselves too. We don’t do empty threats and we try and let them be kids without letting them think they can do whatever they want but my one son is just so….. I’m worried for him and don’t know where he gets his attitude from to matter how much we try and emphasize kindness and sharing and making others feel good and helping the ones you love. Idk, he still young but my husband and I don’t understand it.

      • Flamingo says:

My son is pretty much an only child, his step siblings are all 15+ years older than him. We are dealing with typical only child issues like sharing and interacting with other toddlers, he really only likes adults. We have boundaries and he knows that there are consequences, but every now and then he does something and I think to myself, “He’s going to be the Chet Haze of the family.”

That pool looks NICE. I really need a vacation. I would love to know where this is. Not that I could ever afford it, ha!

  5. tifzlan says:

Yall are being so mean! Everyday i’m obsessed with the mess that is Chet. Like truly nothing brings me more joy in this time of disease and pestilence than Chet’s delusion.

  6. Livethelifeaquatic says:

What’s up with his chest. What are those lines. I’m so confused

    • molly says:

I wondered the same thing. Is this some “True life: I got chest implants” kind of situation? I can’t think of what else would cause that.

  7. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

The only thing I have say, and this is regarding the appropriation versus celebration conversation, I, too, see both sides and it has made me consume more literature and neverending opinions, but I still come back to a basic understanding and appreciation for the multiple stances (many more than two). Everyone will never be completely happy simultaneously. And everyone will always split into camps based upon their own experiences, upbringing and environmental parameters.

I’ll probably be dumped on for saying this, but for right now, in our current climate, I’m going pull up a celebration chair and try to hold hands with everyone in lieu of fighting and confrontation. We’re wading in shitty waters and a very large percentage of the population is positively responding to fear, anger, unrest and a basic loss of all things united and decent. Now is not the time for directing intellectual discussions about bantu knots at the Notting Hill Carnival (Caribbean Carnival) which has a very long history of bringing people together from across the strata. The only carnival we should be discussing is the one needing to be burned to the ground. The one with global manipulation and nuclear weapons, the one drilling in the Arctic, the carnival condemning violence but allowing it in cities governed by opposing platforms and pardoning federally prosecuted criminals. We paid a crippling price for the current carnival in town and we need to figure out how to send it packing because the polls are narrowing.

I couldn’t focus on the faux accent because those ripped jean shorts with tall white socks were straling my attention…and not in a good way!

  9. JEM says:

He is such an idiot that it just makes me mad.

  10. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

    He’s douchetacular.

  11. cassandra says:

    ….I’m rooting for this ship?!?

Mostly cause it’s ridiculous and will bring me sheer joy in this awful horrible no good year.

  12. Ky says:

So, I have a question. Is it the manner in which he uses the patois that people are taking offense to? And his whole persona? I worked with J1 students from Jamaica for 4 or 5 summers and several of the girls I worked with actually wanted to teach me Jamaican patois. But I’ve never used it other than conversing with them, after they had made it clear they enjoyed teaching me and seeing me learn about their culture. So I guess my question is: is it Chet himself and the manner in which he’s adopted Jamaican culture which people dislike? Or the fact that a white person is using it at all?
