For several years now, Prince William’s “king-in-waiting” brand has taken some twists and turns. For one, there are serious questions about his literacy after multiple royal biographers have emphasized that he’s “not a reader” and he prefers to be briefed verbally as opposed to simply reading his briefing materials. Those same sycophantic royal biographers have also stated somewhat plainly that William is not religious in the least, that he hates going to church for any reason, and he’s not really committed to the Church of England. As I said, these are pro-William royalists pointing this out, not his biggest critics. This has been an ongoing conversation for a while, that William’s ambivalence about becoming the Supreme Governor of the Church of England is a huge issue. Well, problem solved, you guys! According to a new Times piece by Roya Nikkhah, William will come back to the Church of England in a big way now that there’s a new Archbishop of Canterbury. As it turns out, William hasn’t been ambivalent about Christianity this whole time – he was just mad that the previous Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was friendly with Prince Harry and Meghan.
The Prince of Wales has revealed his “quiet faith” and “commitment to the Church of England”, in a significant move redefining his role as future King and supreme governor. William, 43, is not a devout Christian nor a regular churchgoer like the King and the late Queen Elizabeth. His commitment to his Christian faith has long been questioned.
Days before he attends the Archbishop of Canterbury’s enthronement this week, Prince William has moved to “draw a line in the sand” on the issue. After years of doubt, William, who was baptised at six weeks old and confirmed at the age of 14, has addressed questions for the first time about his personal faith and confirmed his wish to establish “a strong and meaningful bond with the Church and its leadership”.
A source close to the prince said: “This week is an opportunity to be very clear in people’s minds, when he walks into Canterbury Cathedral, of where he stands. For him, it is a drawing of a line in the sand of where he’s at and it’s really important that it [the question over his commitment to the Church] is cleared up. His feeling is, ‘I might not be at church every day but I believe in it, I want to support it and this is an important aspect of my role and the next role and I will take it very seriously, in my own way’.”
The prince will attend the installation of Dame Sarah Mullally at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday with the Princess of Wales, on behalf of the King. It is protocol for the heir to attend, rather than the monarch.
An aide to William told The Sunday Times: “The Prince of Wales’s commitment to the Church of England is sometimes quieter than people expect, and for that reason it is not always fully understood. Those who know him well recognise that his connection to the Church, and to the sense of duty that comes with it, runs deep and is grounded in something personal and sincere. Faith, service and responsibility are themes that have long shaped the role he will one day inherit, and they are things he approaches in his own thoughtful way. At a time when institutions can be seen simply through a social or cultural lens, he understands that the Church’s role goes beyond this. It is not only part of the nation’s heritage, but a living expression of faith, rooted in prayer, compassion and a belief in grace and redemption.”
William’s stance on his relationship with the Church, which he feels reflects the nation’s shifting attitudes towards Christianity, will be seen as a sign of how he plans to reign as King. The aide added: “True to his character, he approaches these relationships as his authentic self. As he looks ahead to the responsibilities he will one day assume as supreme governor, he is keen to build a strong and meaningful bond with the Church and its leadership, one that respects tradition while speaking to a modern Britain, and reflects his broader belief that institutions must continue to remain relevant and connected to the people they serve. He understands the importance of the role he will inherit and is committed to carrying it forward with sincerity, authenticity and a clear sense of purpose.”
William’s desire to build a meaningful relationship with Mullally, 63, who is the first female Archbishop of Canterbury and an Aston Villa fan like the prince, is a significant development. Appointed last year, she replaced the Right Rev Justin Welby, who resigned in November 2024 over his handling of the case of John Smyth, a prolific sex abuser. During Welby’s 11-year tenure, he and his team repeatedly tried and failed to establish a bond with William, which baffled and frustrated Lambeth Palace.
Several sources with knowledge of the situation said Welby’s previous closeness to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, from whom William is estranged, had played a part. Welby became a confidant to Harry and Meghan in the run-up to their 2018 wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, at which he officiated, and as their tensions with the royal family escalated.
This is so typical of William, who believes that telling is the same as showing. Instead of (literally) showing up to church or trying to embody Christian values of forgiveness, humility, compassion, love and sacrifice, he believes that he can just tell people that he’s good with God and he’s going to inherit all of this anyway, so why bother learning anything or trying to embody anything. The fact that the Welby-Sussex excuse was used here is incredible too – oh, William never wanted a relationship with the church he will one day act as supreme governor, but he had a good reason! The previous Archbishop of Canterbury gave religious counsel to Harry and Meghan in 2018, that’s why!! William literally seethes and holds grudges against people who were NICE to Harry and Meghan eight years ago. Such a Christian! “You were nice to my brother, therefore I will never go to church because I AM SO MAD.” You cannot make this up. Well, Kensington Palace can.

With the rota so intent on linking everything Wank does/thinks back to H&M, that crisis pr person has her job cut out for her, and is not doing as good a job as she thinks she is.
The lack of control(self/otherwise) is the root of all his evil! Crisis pr person can’t help much with that. Go willie demon!
He wasn’t a devoted church goer bc the former archbishop once counseled his brother. Oh that’s not….
Why do they even publicize that detail????
What a bad look.
So sorry.
My hatred of my brother takes precedence over my love of God.
Commandments?…. What?
The first…uh, uh, uh, and the second like unto it? Huh?
Yeah I’m not sure why they think constantly referencing Harry is a good idea, especially in the context of your religious beliefs.
Even if Harry had done all the things that William has convinced himself of being betrayals, he clearly isn’t trying to see you or speak to you and hasn’t in years. You should be happy.
Harry’s not in the country attending services at your local church in Norfolk or Windsor, and presumably Justin Welby also wasn’t leading those services, so what does him being at the head of the church have to do with your attendance?
When he skipped Easter to attend Jecca’s wedding Harry had not even met Meghan yet.
William only pretends to be Christian because he wants the defender of the faith title. He spends more time watching Aston Villa matches than attend Sunday service. (Which are maybe an hour. )
The British monarch is also the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. So I guess Wank — who isn’t religious — is going to reject the title? Or maybe he isn’t religious except when he’s in charge?
It’s par for the course with William, I’m afraid. He cut off Tom Bradby, the ITV news anchor who he had previously been friends with, because Tom was nice to H&M in South Africa. William has no concept of forgiveness, compassion or empathy and is therefore not a Christian in my book.
About william not reading and as it run in that family, maybe he has dyslexia like it is confirmed that Harry has dyslexia. And if this is the case, maybe that, contrary to Harry who have overpass this problem using tools that are available, william never learned. Monday fantasy!
It’s actually not confirmed that Harry has dyslexia, but I do think its likely that William may have it, and that’s why it was put out there that Harry is dyslexic instead.
Harry mentions reading books especially the non fiction books by women that they give awards to with Archewell and NCAAP. There are audiobooks for Wills, if he has dyslexia.
Harry never confirmed he has dyslexia. He never even mentioned it in his book.
If Harry had dyslexia, he would have said so in Spare. Instead, he talked about his ambivalence to education and how he finally knuckled down when he realised that he had to master all those technical details in order to become an Apache pilot.
Indeed, if Harry were dyslexic, I could see him championing a related charity to support others with this diagnosis.
It’s as Becks1 mentioned: with the palaces, every accusation is a projection. They seem to have spent decades saddling Harry with William’s issues, and are still trying to do so, even though Harry set a lot of records straight in his own words, with his own voice.
For my part, I don’t think that William is dyslexic. I think he is entitled, incredibly lazy and incurious. And has very little in the way of reading comprehension skills. Hence all the posturing. Even here, it’s “an aide to William”, who for some reason cannot be named despite being on the payroll, who has helpfully provided all these paragraphs for the newspaper to pretend that William is religious, despite not being in possession of anything which could be called Christian virtues.
The media also knows just how much assistance William got at St Andrews. He should have failed out after first year but Charles arranged it that he changed programs and more than likely got help so that he would graduate. William certainly does not show evidence of someone who actually studied at university.
Neither does Kate.
The big secret at universities is that rich kids rarely do all the work to get their degree.
I don’t think William is dyslexic either. If he was, he wouldn’t be able to participate in the football forums he so loves. My half-brother is dyslexic and he can’t even write an e-mail.
William isn’t brilliant, wise, or sane…is he?
He is not. If he was, national assets Harry and Maghan would be working royals, the monarchy would also be enjoying its highest popularity! But no, he prefers uncle pedo and cousin torture and their bags of cash and minors!
He needs better staff. Somebody needs to get them to stop mentioning Harry and Meghan constantly. Or get a new crisis manager. If this is designed to make him sound good, it doesn’t. Also “quiet faith”! Don’t expect to see him in church that much.
In Williamspeak, quiet means pretending to do something behind the scenes with the least amount of effort.
Also “in his own way”. _rolls eyes_
I know this is Roya trying to brush up William’s image, but he just comes across as more of the same – petty, obsessed with Harry and Meghan, and lazy.
Why is it relevant that the new Archbishop is an Aston Villa fan? Does that mean William is going to be more willing to meet with her? How pathetic.
And the line about how he’s going to do it “in his own way” gives it away – he’s not going to do anything. he’s not going to attend church regularly, or meet with the archbishop unless he’s forced to, etc.
I honestly don’t know how no one on his team has figured out that bringing everything back to Harry and Meghan just makes William look……well, deranged and obsessed. Charles’ team plays it much better most of the time (not all the time) – making it seem like Charles is just too busy with work and cancer treatments to think about Harry. It really seems like William just sits around all day stewing over Harry. and maybe that’s what he does – but why does KP want everyone to know that??
If Elizabeth were alive she would have slapped him upside the head. And if being King just meant inheriting a pantload of wealth…well, there are a lot of others in the world who have done that. But, so far, being King means something to the nation – they’re not going to slap his face on currency because they love his pointy head. Then again, if God really did anoint this turnip to be an exalted being, I might be questioning my faith, too.
All the stories of the Private Teas with the Queen and Scooter are totally meaningless. He was not listening to any of the “lessons” she gave him.
I don’t even believe they had these meetings. I think it’s more palace/Rota BS, because it is a cute story. These are not cute people, and they never have been.
He’s going to be the leader of the faith “in my own way” – translation: rarely show up and when I do, I’ll make inappropriate jokes about other people, I’ll smile like I’m at gunpoint, and I’ll need a beer to get through it.
He’s going to approach relationships “as his authentic self” – translation: with rage, bigotry, ill-humor, and selfishness.
Have fun with your soon-to-be supreme governor, Church of England!
The part about his authentic self had me assuming he screamed at her during their first meeting and told a ‘joke’ that was in very bad taste.
Scooter is a disaster. He will bring down the monarchy. So petty and ignorant.
So now the rage filled man found god but blames his brother for his lack of faith before he decided to use it as a hammer against his brother.. this is textbook abuser behavior. The more that I hear about Willy the more disgust I feel towards the monarchy but especially for William as a whole. Low moral character men like Willy being the head of any organization with power (monarchy, church) is the reason the world is being destroyed.
This!
OMG he found a way to blame his brother for him not attending church. His insane delusions never cease to amaze!! He is so delusional he doesn’t even realize how absolutely stupid this makes him sound.
This!
This new Pr person….can’t you tell him when things will make him look bad?
Save.him.from.himself….
This! My GOD, the crisis manager is really just letting all of this out into the world. William never looks good, but this is particularly awful. “I can’t go to church because a leader of the church once gave counsel to my little brother. Nevermind that it’s his job! If you haven’t heard, Harry is the worst thing that has ever happened to me, AND I HATE HIM!”
Actually, I think this is the so-called crisis manager trying to bring lazy brain to the realization that he needs to at least project / pretend that he intends to step up to the role of being “ordained by God ” to rule over the peasants. After his all, that’s the sole reason for him being where he is.
You’ll NEVER convince me that Elizabeth II said yes but Charles and William NEVER wanted Harry to get married and planned on continuing to use him as the workhorse. When Elizabeth said yes, the plan switched to running Meghan out so they’d have the divorced sad Harry that they could keep telling “You never should have married an American”. I fully believe that Meghan and Harry clocked that the media hate campaign was also tied into forcing them apart. The RF would have forced a divorce and they are still mad that Meghan and Harry escaped and are thriving and still married.
I’m guessing that the aide giving the quotes to Roya Nikkhah was the crisis manager whose actual title is Head of Press. I’ve seen a lot of rumblings from people on Twitter about this so this statement didn’t do what KP wanted it to do. Plus, William’s position undermines the monarchy which is supposed to be a divine right from God. If the monarch doesn’t believe in God what’s the justification for maintaining this institution?
Is there anyone in GB that is less suited and prepared to be king than William? He doesn’t want to do any of the work required to be king and he won’t even pretend to try. He should come out and say he won’t do it.
It’s funny. He doesn’t want the job but that is outweighed by him not wanting Harry to get it. His plan was to do minimal work while controlling the purse strings of other royals and sending out tabloid fodder about the Sussexes. He’s still trying to have it all but can’t get it through his egg shaped head that kinging doesn’t work that way.
Um, George will be POW, not Harry!
Dear Kaiser, I must commend you on your accurate naming and description of Willy . He truly is a f-ing bald demon . Well maybe you didn’t say the f word in relation to him but I am sure you would think it all the same . So this is exactly why he can’t go to church or believe in god because he is a demon . The Pits of Hell will be there when he arrives
This is terrible from a Christian POV. So many passages in the Gospels read like this one: “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” Matthew 18:35
Or this one: “You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him.” 1 John 3:14 ESV
It’s the ultimate hypocrisy, in Christian terms, to claim that William didn’t want to deal with Welby because the Sussexes were on good terms with him. It’s also admitting that the Sussexes maybe DO have genuine faith, but that’s by-the-by.
Anyway, this sounds like Sunny Bullets gave the “journalist” this hypocritical spin, and William couldn’t even be bothered to take part enough to offer a direct quote.
Charles is well known for questioning his faith, but he’s also well-known for talking to theologians, for inflicting philosophy books on Diana, and for being papped on weekly church visits. Wake me up when William starts attending church on anything more than the Christmas and Easter pap walks. Or when basically does anything to demonstrate his “quiet faith” and what that gibberish even means.
Should clarify that “your brother” of course refers to Harry. But it also extends well beyond immediate family, beyond even your neighbors, to include immigrants and foreigners (see the parable of the Good Samaritan). But maybe that’s a note for MAGA and Trump.
For this article, it’s enough to say that Sunny Bullets (and William, if he left his sofa to take any part in this at all), made William look like a massive hypocrite–as Kaiser pointed out.
Considering how they always project negative things about William on Harry, I wouldn’t be surprised that William has some kind of reading problem if not actually dyslexic, or he’s just plain lazy. Harry never mentioned anything about dyslexia in his book, and I think he would make mention of it if he actually has dyslexia. He must surely know that the notion is out there. I think Harry’s dyslexia might simply an idea floated out there by the media, or even assumed by the media, and has been repeated so often that people believe it, which is proof of how dangerous a lie can be when repeated around the world. I will remain skeptical of Harry having dyslexia until there is confirmation from an impeccable source, such as Harry himself, or a biographer with whom Harry has co-operated.
“I will take it very seriously, in my own way’.”
This made me laugh, actually. William is so incredibly shallow and self-centered.
As for using Harry as yet another excuse not to do something, all I have to say is WWJD, William? WWJD?
It made me laugh too! Yes, because that’s what religion is known for, all of them, in fact! They let you pick and choose which parts you like, NO REALLY! You can CUSTOMIZE any of the religions, and do them your way. No one, ever, has been persecuted for not following any faith to the letter, not ever, ever.
There certainly aren’t any British queens missing their heads….
The right wing media attacked Welby from minute 1 for being too liberal. So now they want to try to make it seem as if William somehow agrees. Meeting the new bishop was so important to him that he gave quotes for this article and gave a statement after the initial meeting (sarcasm). Kate wasn’t even confirmed until right before her wedding in spite of having attended a CoE prep school. Charles has also taken criticism this month for acknowledging Ramadan and hosting some related events. So this was commissioned by the Telegraph to again paint William as a right wing monarch.
William is still trying to use Harry as a scapegoat. I sincerely doubt that Harry and Meghan were friends with Welby. I remember Welby publicly contradicting Meghan when she said Welby married them in a ceremony before their official wedding. At the time the BM raged about Meghan being a liar. I remember thinking it was probably a cultural misunderstanding and why would Welby publicly announce that and make Meghan out to be a liar? Meghan later clarified to Oprah that they had private vows before the Archbishop before their legal ceremony.
I think Meghan meant that at rehearsal they said their vows privately but never meant that it counted as an actual wedding. The official part cane at the actual wedding and official documents needed to be signed. Welby should have kept quiet. The derangers ran with his statement. And they falsely accused Meghan of lying
Exactly, Welby should have kept quiet instead of contributing to the BM and Derangers feeding frenzy.
Exactly, he should have kept quiet, but maybe they intimidated him. Who knows.
But I’d blame Meghan a bit here. The smear campaign against them lasted long enough for them to realize that the royal family, with the help of the media, would dissect every sentence, so they should have been precise in such statements to avoid leaving any room for additional interpretation.
She said about the wedding that they had gotten married a day (or a few days) earlier, which is patently untrue and it was a prize
for the royals and the media to slam.
It’s true that they exchanged private vows/promises in front of a bishop, which could have been more important
for them than at a media event with such a stalker as Kate, the tiara, media attacks, William, and her family. The bishop clearly betrayed and downplayed the confidential, private vows of two people, which he had no right to do.
The second disastrous statement was “wondering about the child’s skin color.” Everyone during pregnancy wonders about the traits a child might inherit, and in the case of mixed-race marriages, about skin color, slanted eyes, etc.
It was obvious they would be destroyed here, because it’s hard to consider it an accusation. And the accusations were serious. Meghan probably wanted to be subtle, instead of literal, and here she made a terrible mistake, because you either tell it like it is or don’t say anything at all. I think she absolutely should have told the whole truth, which was brutal and disgusting.
Quote: “What if it’s born black? And it’s supposed to be a prince?”
It sounds different, it’s a completely different context.
And the letters patent that had been introduced for the Queen’s great-grandchildren, when William was to become a father, that the great-grandchildren would have the title of prince from birth, were immediately abolished.
They always get stressed when they’re so vague, leaving room for interpretation by their enemies. I’m from ♥️H&M, and I’d give them that advice.
England’s King-In-Waiting is a manipulative, lying man-child. Imagine what Prince Harry endured, taking blame for his brother’s mistakes and being held back to prevent outshining his incompetent older brother.
Whenever I see one of those photos of William with his mouth wide open I hear a donkey’s loud bray.
🤣👏
“I will take it very seriously, in my own way”
Pah-leeze! Take seriously by expressing your seriousness in your own words not the words of a 3rd party spokesperson.
Mean, lazy William doesn’t fool anyone except the Rota-ized.
And he doesn’t fool the rota rats either. According to them, what they know about William would “make your eyes bleed.”
At this rate, they’ll have to hold his coronation at Aston Villa Park to make him go.
Seriously, they should build him a forever home at their stadium. Maybe he’d do some actual work.
Agree! But only at half-time and if he has someone else to get his beer for him!
The only good news here for the Archbishop is that it looks like William won’t ever darken her door. He’ll just continue to show up for the photographers at local chapels at Christmas, Easter (even that’s now in doubt), and at Kate’s (fairly secular) holiday thing.
After this little performance, the Archbishop isn’t going to want William speaking or doing anything on behalf of the CoE.
Actually William has a brilliant pre-hatched get out of crown clause if he should want one: convert to the Church of Rome, as they call it here. Instant disqualification. I always thought the CofE was kind of milquetoast, like, boiled over apathy, but it has played a role in preventing the UK becoming the terrain of the wars of religion that plagued every continental nation as well as Ireland, and that served a valid purpose. But the problem is, there are key concepts in life for which it has no language, and no methodology. One of the choicest observations that a friend of Charles made of his first marriage, was that both he and Diana had good grounds to claim an annulment, which is typically granted if and when both spouses agree that their consent to the vows was not obtained in good faith. Diana had a vicious eating disorder that Charles was helpless to cure, Charles had a mistress he was hoping to keep handy. Bad faith on both sides. Admit mistakes. Forgive, be forgiven. Game over. Like it never happened. Problem is, it would have made William ineligible to reign, by some lights. If William had wanted to marry a Catholic, he would have been disqualified. Now, that would be perfectly feasible, as the rules have changed relatively recently. But to be a Catholic himself — which might suit him, oddly enough — would be to forfeit the throne. And yet — I think it would be the only faith suited to his temperament. It preserves the latitude to be gentle with gentle people and fierce with fierce people. It strikes me he’s just perpetually looking for a boundary, like a petulant child, like, “make me.” And Charles’ mistake as a parent is to give him enough rope to hang himself. He just needs someone to stop enabling this ego-driven BS. I mean. Really.
88Charles sent van der post a philosopher to help Diana with bulimia and recommended doctors to give her valium. She went to the right doctor later on who got the bulimia under control. Diana and Charles conceived scooter soon after the weddi g so no annulment was possible. Bulimia was manifest in Diana because of stress of the marriage.
Having bulemia and being unfaithful is a reason for annulment? Lol.
If the Royal man isn’t honest and an abusing husband, it must that the wife is mad, can’t be no other reason. No Diana had every reason for annulment as she was the only one going in this marriage trying.
And a husband easily angry with pens, valets and wife’s isn’t a sane person himself.
The problem is how they all used Diana Charles, Camilla. The queen, the man in grey, the press. She ead 20, suddenly married, first man, first time wife, first time princess, first time mother and that being lonely. Everyone would have problems to adapt.
Brings a new spin to the ‘is the Pope a Catholic?’ question. ‘Is the Supreme Head of the Church of England active in the CoE?’. Nope. Monarchy is ridiculous anyway but this head of the CoE and head of state link needs to end.
Bulletproof Sunshine, the fixer, must have finally put the fear of God into Willam. Any bets on how long before Kate starts wearing religious jewelry and we hear all about how cancer has brought them both closer to God?
It’s this line in the Times article that really grates, attributed to an unnamed source close to the new Archbishop: “We would love the [future] supreme governor to be at church every Sunday, but one has to be practical around the fact that they are a couple with young children.” Um, aren’t they obliged by the christening vows they made to bring up their children in the Christian faith? I’m reminded of this brilliant blogger’s reaction to William’s no-show at Easter last year: “One wonders if Bill understands that when the future head of the Church skips the most sacred date in the Christian calendar and sells his truancy as ‘family time’, that’s sending quite a message that you can’t be a good parent and a good Christian.”
https://unpacked4.wordpress.com/2025/04/20/prince-william-to-become-head-of-church-of-england-eventually-but-first-a-lie-in/
All this begs the question – if the Archbishop of Canterbury is apparently prepared to allow Prince William to use his children as an excuse for not going to church – how come CofE schools are allowed to use church attendance as the main criterion for admissions?
And their kids aren’t that young. You can make that excuse when you have toddlers. They do not remotely.
But one of them has *also* been “anointed by God”, so no rush getting him to church, surely?
I hope this woman can give William the pastoral care he so desperately needs.
