Adam Sandler called Nantucket police to find a pickup basketball game

Adam Sandler loves a good game of pickup basketball. He’s played with 12-year-olds in Atlantic City, Long Island locals, and Sony Studios employees. He even once showed up to the People’s Choice Awards with a black eye that he’d gotten during a game. This past weekend was no exception. On the morning of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, which he officiated, Adam played pickup basketball in the middle of New York City’s 100-degree heatwave. On Sunday, he was at it again in Nantucket. For that one, Adam must have had trouble locating a court because he called the police to ask them where he could find a game. Here’s more from People:

Hours before officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding on July 3, Adam Sandler was spotted playing pickup basketball on outdoor courts in New York City in the middle of a heat wave. Then, less than 48 hours later, the 59-year-old Grown Ups star made headlines again for his love of the game.

After popping up to his home state of New Hampshire for the Fourth of July holiday following the star-studded ceremony, Sandler headed to Nantucket, Mass., on Sunday. When the actor arrived, he called the Nantucket Police Department’s non-emergency line to ask where he could find a pickup basketball game, public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds told the Nantucket Current.

“Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?’ ” Reynolds told the outlet.

Reynolds ended up directing Sandler to the Backus Lane court off Surfside Road, where he joined a game with some locals. One of the players, Andrew Kesler, told the Current that he and his friends were playing a game when Sandler got out of his car and asked to join.

“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys,” Kesler said. “He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’ ”

As for his hooping? “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball,” Kesler said.

The part about him calling the non-emergency line is wild. I don’t think that’s what you’re supposed to use it for. I’d have either Googled it or asked around in a local business. When he’s traveling, Adam’s wife or a member of his team will reach out to nearby colleges to ask if he can use their court. I wonder if this was a spur-of-the-moment trip or if he just figured it would be easy to find a game.

Adam’s commitment to playing pickup basketball is endearing. He earned similar praise about his passing skills after playing at an L.A. Fitness in Atlanta last year. Can you imagine shooting hoops with your buddies and Adam Sandler suddenly rolls up and asks to join? Maybe that’s the real reason why Adam wears basketball shorts everywhere. He’s always on the lookout for a pickup game and wants to be prepared.

Sorry, can’t find this endearing considering his beliefs and connections.

THANK YOU. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills every time I read some heartwarming story about this asshole.

What a waste. Make a burner account and post on the local subreddit, call a local sporting goods store. Can you imagine if everyone just called the non-emergency line for this kind of nonsense? I’m so tired of the entitlement that these rich and powerful have no qualms about displaying.
