Kate Gosselin made $500k on DWTS, Jon still looking for work

Kate Gosselin and her dancing partner Tony Dovolani making an appearance at Live With Regis & Kelly TV Show
I saw Brooke Burke on Oprah about a month ago, and she confirmed that contestants on Dancing with The Stars get paid based on how long they’re on the show. She didn’t say how much it was, but explained “Everybody gets paid and the longer you stay, the more money you make, so there’s definitely a financial incentive.” Atrocious dancer Kate Gosselin was on for just five weeks and made 1/2 a million for her appearance, presumably $100k a week. PopEater has this news along with the conclusion that ABC got a bargain with Kate. The ratings were the highest this year they’ve ever been, thanks in large part to her appearance on the show.

Kate Gosselin didn’t manage to dance her way past week five on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ but she did manage to dance all the way to the bank, earning over half a million dollars for her stint on the hit show. Yep, with some simple math, that means Kate banked more than most people make annually for each episode that she fox-trotted across the dance floor.

“Kate earned over $100,000 per week on ‘Dancing,'” an insider tells me. “She’s a single mom who has to pay the bills and feed those eight little mouths all by herself. Say what you want about her, but Kate will do anything to make sure her children have a bright future. Even making a fool out of herself on national TV.”

It’s unclear if Kate earned more money on the show each week than the other stars, however, one producer tells me he believes she did. “Kate was without doubt the main attraction to the show this year. She is ratings gold and can demand much more money than soap hunk Aiden Turner. Who? Precisely.”

Considering Charlie Sheen just got himself $2 million per episode for a show that doesn’t get nearly as many viewers as ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ maybe $100,000 per episode for Kate was a bargain! Thankfully for ‘DWTS,’ the contestants are only on for one season, so they don’t have to worry about Kate or anyone else holding out for more cash next year.

[From PopEater]

Maybe no-so coincidentally, Jon Gosselin bragged that he turned down exactly $500,000 for a guest spot on Dancing With The Stars, a claim that was later proven false. So Kate made that amount and will be able to pay her mortgage and put aside something for the kids’ education. I took her to task for crying poor when earlier reports had her earning $1 million this year, but a lot of you said you don’t blame her for earning money while she had a chance. At least she’s working.

Meanwhile dad Jon is still looking for some kind of employment and dating women barely out of college. His latest girlfriend in a long line of ditsy conquests is a 23 year-old woman he’s dated for a whole month. Jon brought the new girl around the kids, and a “source” (read: Jon, who often talks to US “off the record”) told US Weekly that “She is the first love interest to be introduced to his children.” What about that woman he hired as a “nanny” just so he could hit on her? She must not count.

Oh and Kate Gosselin was recently photographed in a bikini filming Jon & Kate and without her long extensions. Isn’t she lovely?

    Hate.

  2. bellaluna says:

I just want to smack that “duh” look off Jon’s face. And take some clippers to that atrocious hair. And what? Is 23 his magic age for a “girlfriend”? UGH!

  3. Captain says:

First, the state of PA already had education college funds for all of her kids when they were born. So their education was already paid for. Kate is just another reality show fame whore like the rest of em. What a great country we live in.

  4. zen says:

ewwww, Jon is soo gross, how the heck is he even getting these chicks?!?

  5. texasmom says:

    Blech.

Anyone else ever notice how she has weird super-grins whenever on camera and looks very dour and grumpy whenever she is with her kiddos?

  6. jover says:

If what you say is true Captain then that’s even more of a reason to despise her; yes, we live in a great country where no-talent imbeciles can became famous. Have to wonder how all the kids will turn out.

  7. pebbles says:

    Yes, Captain. Agree completely.

  8. ogechi says:

    hahaha, poor dad indeed.

  9. CaramelKiss says:

Jon needs to thank Tiger and Jesse James for taking the spotlight off of his douchery. Just when you think bitchassness has reached a new level, there’s another scandal on the horizon.
He dates the barely-legals because they are too young to know any better.

  10. Carrie says:

Stories like this make me think I did something terribly wrong in spending 9 years on higher education (BA, MA, JD) to earn less than $100k per year…what I should have done was birthed a litter of kids, gotten a basic cable show, divorced a douche very publicly, and taken my two left feet onto a tacky ballroom dance competition.

    Shoulda, woulda, coulda!

  11. Scarlet Vixen says:

Captain is correct: all 8 children have college education funds already set up. Their health insurance is also paid for. And the house was paid for by TLC–no mortgage payments, either. Yeah, the woman has 8 kids (BY CHOICE, BTW), but she has a hell of a lot more breaks than the rest of us single moms. You know how far I could make 500k stretch??

I believe that Jon got suckered into married Kate when he was around 23. Maybe that’s why it’s his magic number–he’s trying to recapture the youth stolen from him by the Gorgon…

  12. lem says:

as a 23 year old, i’m offended at the idea that at 23 i’m too young to know any better. its not the age of these girls, its that they’re idiots.

  13. amanda says:

I HATE THESE PEOPLE. Why is it that crappy people come out on top?

  14. Feebee says:

The article’s funny, the comments are better!

I’m not 23 but I too think it’s harsh to call 23 as too young to know better. He has a “type” and he likes his type to be around 23 also.

Ha, I have no doubt he was suckered into marrying that cow. It’s been mentioned more than once that he was not happy about sextuplets but that Kate over-rode him. If his acting out wasn’t so extreme and douchey it’d almost be excusable.

How did the state of PA justify college funds?

Kate bleats on about her kids’ future, sorry I just don’t buy it. Why doesn’t she just say she’s doing this to keep herself (and her kids I guess) in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed.

Shit, $500K? Fergie should have just signed up for DWTS instead of playing grubby lobbyist (sorry I digress).

  15. oxa says:

As well as the College funds that Scarlet & Captain noted, she also pulls in money from all the products placment in the series, photos of kids clothing, of her at target, kids drinking juicy juice, wearing gymboree clothes, visiting Disney etc etc plus all the shows and interviews she does. We were supposed to believe her when she went of the Today Show throwing Jon under the bus saying she had a purse full of bills she couldnt pay and was worried she wouldnt be able to feed her kids.
I think she a lying shrew who cares more about getting the attention she craves than her kids emotional well being.

  16. Maritza says:

Some people just have all the luck but I don’t hate them for it. Luck doesn’t last forever so there is nothing wrong with her taking advantage of the opportunities that are coming her way. Jon on the other hand is such a liar, he only wishes DWTS had given him an offer.

  17. guesty says:

cannot stand that woman. she’s such a manipulator. who in the hell does she draw as a fan base? boggles the mind.

  18. nj says:

If I were a citizen of Pennsylvania I would call for those college educations to be revoked. Kate is no better than a welfare cheat. That’s what I call it when people who do not have jobs have kids they cannot afford, and then get the necessities provided to them at the expense of others. Then what cash they DO get, they spend on luxuries.
Why should the state pay for the educations of children who live in luxury? Why are they so special?

  19. lucy2 says:

Good for her. Now she needs to shut the #@&$ up and stop crying that her children will starve to death unless she has her own TV show again.

Ugh, he is so gross. In some situations I could see a younger woman being more susceptible to putting up with someone like that, but in Jon’s case, I think it’s pretty clear those women are just STUPID, regardless of age.

  20. Isabel says:

I would be a supersonic b!tch too if I had been married to that slacker loser for so long. I’m not saying I’d be bff’s with her, but she’s nowhere near as bad as Jon.

  21. Judy says:

Jon has made some douche-bag choices, but he is by far the better, MORE CARING parent. He actually hugs and plays with his children, and they all adore him. He is OWNED by TLC, so criticize TLC for his lack of employment, because, under his contract with them, he CANNOT work unless approved by TLC. TLC also pays Kate’s $20,000/month child support. I am honestly going to BARF the next time I see a story about that B**** Kate. She is a TOTAL FRAUD and a USER.

  22. TaylorB says:

I am not being difficult, but could someone please provide a link or some proof that PA is paying for the college of each of these kids. As well as a link that TLC bought the house. At this point it simply looks like speculation and rumors. It could be true, but I looked and there doesn’t seem to be any actual evidence.

    Just curious.

  23. Judy says:

TaylorB, I’ve seen the document showing that the state of PA has provided for college for the kids but unfortunately did not save it. It was posted by someone on this site quite a long time ago.

  24. TaylorB says:

Judy (if I got your name wrong mea culpa it prints over the number and is hard to read),

I am not suggesting that this is untrue, but I have yet to see any actual facts to back it up, I have seen quite a few comments saying it is true but absent of actual facts I find it hard to believe. I tried to look it up but did not find anything, I am not a computer person so perhaps I simply missed it. Please take no offense to this, I just find it hard to believe that a state would do such a thing, not only that it would be up to the university in question and even then only if (I would hope) the children qualified on their SAT/ACT’s and grades.

Edit: I did find something inre the Gosselin kids and the state of PA, it is a law regarding child labor. I wonder if that is what people are talking about, it doesn’t mean that the state provides for the education it means that a percentage of the childrens earnings are put in a trust FOR education. “House Bill 2515 will require that minors can work no earlier than 7 a.m. and no later that 10 p.m. It also mandates that all minors have work permits, and that 15% of the minor’s gross earnings be put into a trust for the minor…advocates for minors to ensure their health, education, and moral safety are on all production sets”

  25. Lady D says:

@Captain..The state of Pennsylvania set up college funds for each of her eight children, and for every other child born in that state. The state puts $5 into each college account it opens per child of the state. They do not cover entire college education costs.
@Scarlett Vixen….TLC made it very clear during their trial with Jon that they did not pay for, nor supply the down payment for the home the Gosselins are currently in.
Bash away people, but get your facts straight.

  26. guilty pleasures says:

Why would any state pay in advance for anyone’s education? I paid for my own education, and am no worse the wear for it. I will be footing the bill for my own children because I can afford it SINCE I HAVE AN EDUCATION!!
There are so many worthwhile ways to spend taxpayer monies, but this? It makes no sense, none.
Agree with whomever said that Pennsylvanians should demand a revocation of that provision, if indeed it exists.
Pay your own way, or learn the phrase ‘would you like some fries with that?’

  27. original kate says:

i just want this woman to swallow a fly or something. wouldn’t that be awesome? she’s giving some lame interview and a fly just goes down her throat.

  28. Judy says:

I’ve READ the proclamation–it DOES exist. Others have read it, too, and it was all about having six (6) children at once–all the perks that come with that–something the general public would never experience; and it was also probably connected to their TLC show. Many freebies with multiples of that magnitude. Hope the person who originally posted the document will see this and post it again. And TLC has a lot of legal documents related to the Gosselins on their site.

  29. TaylorB says:

    Judy,

I don’t doubt that you read something about this, I am just wondering where because other than the statute regarding child labor laws and education trusts I can not find it. I was simply wondering why the state would do this.

To be clear, No one is going after you at all, just trying to get to the bottom of the situation. If that state is in fact paying for the education of those kids I want to know what their justification is for doing so, and I suspect I am not the only one. There are hundreds of smart kids who deserve a helping hand and have worked very hard in school, and if they are left out because of these kids I simply would like to see the documentation proving that is the case. perhaps TLC has offered to pay the tuition, but I am not sure that a state would do so just because of multiple children and/or births.

  30. Anastasia says:

So maybe people can finally get it through her head that this hag is NOT working to put food on the table, but rather chasing fame and fortune. The sad sack pity stories she suckered people into for so long have finally broken apart. Just too bad anyone believed them for any amount of time.

Remember, you make interest off your money. And this $500K was just for several WEEKS. Add up everything she has making interest and you’ll see why I’ve long said that she doesn’t have to work at ALL. She could sit on her butt in that white plastic chair in the driveway of that mansion if she wants and be fine.

I’m so glad her 15 minutes are up.

  31. Peg says:

I’m glad for Kate to have made money on DWTS. Someone has to, and it evidently isn’t Jon!! Jon has been worse than useless, he’s been a hindrance. He’s the one that put an end to their first reality show and left her without an income. I know that I would be totally unable to support 8 kids.

  32. Leslye says:

Rock on, Kate. Make as much money as you can, while you can. We all know that nothing is forever, so while the jobs are there, take them and put it in the bank.
It takes over $100,000 EACH, to raise a child from birth to 18, and that’s just for basics. So she’ll need about a cool million just to raise these precious babies. And Jon shows no desire to support the kids, so its all on her.
    Go Kate.

  33. j. ferber says:

Since when does it take millions and millions of dollars to raise eight kids? If those eight kids were spread out into two or three families, no one would be so gullible as to believe that such vast quantities of money are necessary…because they’re not. That bitch is a liar and a fraud.
