Johnny Depp saves extras from getting hit by a car

Johnny Depp was filming 1930s gangster film “Public Enemies” in Wisconsin when his quick reactions possibly saved a group of extras from getting hit by a car. This story is likely exaggerated for effect, but I know Johnny Depp is capable of superhuman feats of heroism and I chose to believe it:

On location for his new flick in freezing Columbus, Wisconsin, Depp - standing by a country road ready to play a getaway scene as notorious Depression bank robber John Dillinger - went into action lightning-fast when a 1933 Ford came speeding toward the set, hit a patch of ice and slid out of control… aimed straight at half a dozen extras who had their backs turned! Instantly, Depp screamed: “Get out of the way…” and literally slammed into the group with arms outspread, shoving them all back just as the car slammed into the cub a few feet away.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, Mike Walker's column, April 7, 2008]

The article says that Depp was pissed and yelled at the driver for speeding on an icy road, and told him he’d have him fired if he did something like that again. Johnny Depp mad after saving people’s lives is almost as sexy as Johnny Depp silent and smoldering.

Depp has directed the latest music video from his longterm girlfriend and the mother of his two children, French singer Vanessa Paradis. He appears as a shadowy figure throughout this video, and the video makes it seem as if she’s performing just for him. You never quite see his face, but the song is lovely and the video is well done so it’s worth seeing. Thanks to Lainey Gossip for linking this.

In related Johnny Depp news, there’s also the smirk-inducing story that Trojan condoms has offered him $10 million to front an ad campaign for them in the US. That story originated in the Daily Star and I doubt it is even remotely true. The title for the article claims it’s £38 million, but the actual article says he’s been offered $10 million USD. Whichever number they claim, it’s probably made up like the “extra saving” story, but I want to believe that one.

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis are shown at the Oscars this year.

  2. OBVIOUSLY someone’s either making this shiz up, or Johnny Depp is the second coming. My cynical self is going with the former.

If Johnny Depp were a character in a movie or book, I wouldn’t like him because he wouldn’t be flawed enough to be realistic. So, clearly, he’s got a deep dark secret that’ll shock the world when the tell-all biography comes out.

  3. I’ll opt for the second choice, Ling.

We know he’s flawed. He used to be a very bad boy. But that’s what we all like, right? The bad boy who’s got a heart of gold, and once married, settles into being a superhero.

    **sigh**

  4. Why is popping “Back to the future” to my mind? … and then he met his mom… I don’t know… I think Mike’s talking shit once more…

  5. If Johnny Depp really was the second coming, I swear I would believe in God right away.

The guy is so hot and smart, I wish I knew him personally, I’ve got a friend who is friends with him and he tells the most awesome stories about Johnny.

  6. That sells it - Johnny Depp is the new incarnation of Jesus Christ.

I wouldn’t mind being one of his loyal apostles. Yummers, sweet blasphemy!

  7. He’s just trying to out-Angelina Angelina - plotting pure and simple - why else would all of these “good deeds” come out when he’s making films and wants to promote them? If he hadn’t been making the film he’d have probably rammed that car into them himself, just for the publicity….

*collapses* I’m sorry - I lie. I love the Deppster too. I was just experimenting with mindless vitriol and it make me go loooopy ;-) We know he has “faults” but choose to admire him and see it as part of his character. Could be that as wimmin we overlook mens’ faults - or simply that the man rocks like freshly laundered socks 8-)
Wonder what type of Ford it was though? The Model T was an absolute terror to operate and it could be that the driver was just having problems with a 70 year old car?

  10. It does sometimes get hard to believe the stories, it could be a little from column A and a little from column B…some stories true, some not so much. Who cares, really; he is so amazing and lovely. Most loved man in/out of hollywood, by a long shot.

  11. Gotta say I grudgingly like this guy. I held out a lot longer than most, due in large part to the fact my wife never shuts up about him. But after reading that story about him dressing up as Jack Sparrow and reading to sick kids in the hospital that saved his kid’s life… yeah.

I do think that us guys need to pull him aside and tell him to pull back on the reigns a bit, just to keep the rest of us from looking bad. I mean, pulling people from the path of cars? Come on John-boy, even Superman takes a day off every once in a while.

  14. I think one of the most awesome things about this man is the way he and Vanessa look at each other.

Interesting how Winona and Kate are such screwed up hot messes a full decade after their break ups from him.

  15. This is totally made up. I live an hour south of Columbus and the news media covered every single piece of minutiae regarding Johnny’s foray into the Dairy State, from the number of fake rubber cobblestones laid on the streets to the time in the morning the gawkers gathered, to the poor young thing who burst out sobbing upon seeing Johnny across the street. If he had indeed performed such a heroic act, it would have been the lead story on every tv station, above the fold in the papers, all over the local blogs. And we heard/saw nothing about any heroic act of derring do.
