LaineyGossip and The Superficial are all over Katie Holmes and her jeans. Lainey: “a high waisted horror reminiscent of Jessica Simpson’s high waisted hilarity only not as funny.” The Superficial: “Mom-ass in a pair of mom jeans.” But are they really that bad? Honestly?
True, they’re not flattering from every angle. But I kind of like the way she looks in some of these photos. She looks long-legged and 1970s, like an Annie Hall supporting player. If the jeans weren’t so high-waisted, they would be very flattering. And I’m saying all of this knowing that Katie Holmes has horrible style, made worse by the fact that she thinks she’s God’s gift to fashion. Since her normal style mode is set to “hideous” can we just applaud her for going with a consistent look (1970s New York/Annie Hall) that doesn’t look terrible?

Katie’s fashion choices are more than often simply tragic. This outfit, however, is a winner.
Those jeans do wonder for girls with small legs that need to be lengthened. I am loving the shirt and complete 70′s vibe with the sunglasses.
The shoes are a bit meh but not bad either.
I’d have gone for a different bag though.
I’m surprised she’s getting bad reviews for being well dressed, which is a rare thing and deserves some praise, non?

As far as Mom jeans go, they’re not horrible. But the very nature of Mom jeans is inherently tragic, and no self-respecting woman should wear them.

I don’t think she looks horrible and the styling is cute, as most have said.
However, I think Kat(i)e is one of those people who tends to wear things that challenge her figure when she gets down to her goal weight. It’s like she’s proud of herself for slimming down and then attempts to wear something only Giselle Bundchen could pull off.
I think she’s a very pretty girl who is quite fit, but if she wants to look her best she still needs to pay attention to what flatters her.

The look in general is fine. Those 70s jeans flatter her better than others because she is quite long-waisted.
A chunkier heel or espadrille would have been better than those strappy sandals.

I guess she pulls it off, which is tough to do. The heels make it. The bag: no. However, this kind of retro looks pretty dull to me. No matter how you style it, or what fashion name you put on it, jeans and plaid never looks lively or interesting, imo. So, she looks good, but boring, if that makes sense.

If they were mom jeans, the legs would be tapered. These are a spin-off of classic bell bottoms, which used to have high waists.
I agree that katie’s style is usually off, but she put this together right, for the most part, including the hair. And those glasses look great on her.

I have two pairs of the “mom” (well i a mom), jeans & I love them. They are a very dark denim & so comfortable. I like skinny jeans more but love the flare on the mom look.

The jeans themselves are inherently tragic, but she does wear them well. I like the jeans, shirt, and sunglasses combo- I saw these pictures last night and didn’t even notice the retro vibe until Kaiser pointed it out, and I think it’s a really good look for her.

“High-waisted” doesn’t always translate to “mom jeans” for god’s sake. Mom jeans have tapered ankles, puffy hips, and in some especially unfortunate styles, are pleated. A pair of jeans that isn’t sitting on your hips and revealing your business doesn’t automatically qualify as “dowdy.”
