Back in April, there were some rumors flying around that Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber were on the verge of splitting up. The reports at the time seemed to indicate that Liev was kind of douche, and that Naomi was tired of dealing with him. They have two young sons, and the whole thing was kind of sad, although both seemed to make an effort to deny that they were having problems, and they stayed together for the time being. I theorized at the time that if someone wanted to start a rumor about Schreiber and his Broadway costar Scarlett Johansson, I would be up for it. Anyway, long story short, the “impending breakup” rumors have started anew. The NYDN claims that Liev has flown to Tahiti to get some space while he considers their relationship.
When there is trouble in paradise, head to another one. That seems to be Liev Schreiber’s plan.
A source close to the actor says Schreiber took an early-morning flight yesterday out of Newark to Palm Beach, where he boarded a private plane to Tahiti for “about a week.”
Schreiber is traveling with friends, but the source says one purpose of the trip is to contemplate the state of his five-year relationship with Australian actress Naomi Watts, who will soon portray CIA spy Valerie Plame on the big screen in “Fair Game.”
According to the source, Schreiber, who has two sons with Watts, is technically “together” with the blond beauty, and the couple have appeared in public frequently, most recently at the Tony Awards and a Shakespeare in the Park gala.
But, the source adds, the two have not been getting along lately and Schreiber has decided he needs some space from tensions at home.
Schreiber, who stars alongside Angelina Jolie in the spy flick “Salt” next month, was scheduled to be in Cancun for the big-budget blockbuster’s press junket.
But our insider says the actor is skipping the publicity-go-round for some free time away from work and family, to “sort things out mentally.”
A rep for Schreiber calls our story “ridiculous,” saying: “Liev went on a diving trip with a group of friends, and his boys are too young to go.”
But isn’t that what nannies are for?

Hm… I don’t know. I would like to think that they’re very solid, but I’m honestly surprised that they’ve made it work thus far. They’re two working actors, and they both work constantly. Back in April, there was a theory that Schreiber didn’t like being with someone more famous than him, but I don’t know. People know who he is, don’t they? I’ve always liked him as an actor too – and I find him sexy. But will I still like him if he dumps Naomi? Eh. His image might take a hit. But he’s never billed himself as Mr. Family-Friendly, so I think he’ll be okay.

I hope this isn’t true. I kind of like her, and I really like him (although he does seem like he is capable of being a mammoth ass at times) – his physique is similar to my husband’s, except my hubby is taller. With two children that young, I hope they are able to make it work. They both seem to truly adore their boys.

Hot or not. Dumping your family for selfish reasons doesn’t really make a man a winner in my book. I like Naomi and she seems very down to earth, completely opposite her old friend Nicole Kidman. I could totally see the reason for their breakup being that Liev is getting jealous of Naomi’s increasing success. Hot as he is, he always struck me as douche potential.
Maybe they should both take a break from work and spend a year repairing their relationship with each other and the kids.

I’m not a big fan of either of them. But, Liev was the best think about that horrible Wolverine movie I was forced to watch (Thanks Mr. Bee). I only agreed to watch it because if thought I would enjoy staring at the hottness that is Hugh Jackman. But my god, that’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back now.

Hmm, hope they are ok. For some reason I’ve always liked her. I guess because it took her so long to break through as a successful actress, and she seems to appreciate her success. Then I felt terrible for her when it didn’t work out with Heath L. She just seems kindof vulnerable.

Liev is much more well-known than Naomi and is an in demand character actor in the movies and a leading man on the stage. Naomi has been in bomb after bomb. She cannot open a movie and is definitely not a bigger star than he is. He is not jealous because he has zero to be jealous of.
Also, I cannot believe Liev has flown off on a “diving vacation” with friends and not doing promotion for his latest movie. When will the movie event be held in Cancun? Next week, tomorrow? When? I can’t imagine he won’t help with the PR for “Salt.” He’s too much of a pro to shirk his obligations to his movie AND it would be bad news for his career.
I do believe these two might be having problems in their relationship but I think it’s mostly because Naomi seems to work all the time, probably because she is afraid she is getting old and nobody will want her in a few years. They are apart a little too much from what I can tell and that can’t be good for any relationship. Like someone else said, they both need to take a few months off and work on what they have.

BUT I like Leiv.. I think he is one of those actors you love and are always comment on when he is in a movie. He seems very nice. And this is a rumor. WE all see them and usually they are wrong to begin with. I hope he goes to Cancun.. I am so waiting for SALT..

Years ago, before Naomi, I saw Liev on the prowl in NYC. He was arrogant, seemed full of himself, and was a borderline jerk. Now that I am older I can see that was all a mask. He’s just another actor — weak and insecure. I am shocked she’s stayed with him for this long, but she looks like she’s willing to put up with a lot.

I went to college with him and he was a bit of a pretentious douche. I’ve been kinda wondering how he snagged her, because it seems to me that she could do better, but who knows.

Liev more well known than Naomi? I just did an office poll and everyone knew who she was but only few knew who he was? I think she is much more well known on the whole.
Maybe he is more in demand on Broadway but general public doesnt really know Broadway stars – its an entirely different world than movies/Hollywood. I think they are both nice looking and great actors. They seem to have balanced careers with one not being WAY more famous than the other.

Liev has one movie in post-production, one in pre-production, and Salt.
Naomi has 2 movies coming out this year, 2 in post-production, 2 in pre-production and 5 in development.

She gave an interview here recently (I’ll try to dig it up) where she said that she rarely gets noticed in public but women will run past her toward Liev saying “There’s that guy from Scream!” Too funny!

he was relatively known before, but his relevance got boosted when got together with Naomi. Which unfortunately tends to mean that they won’t stay together. Usually. Because he’ll always be seen as Naomi Watts’s partner rather than her seen as Liev Schreiber’s partner.

I know a very close family member of Liev’s and, not surprisingly, they think he’s really quite lovely and she’s the standoffish ice princess. According to them he’s the hands-on dad and she’s the hands-off mom who lets the nanny do all the work. Who knows?
