Did Tiger Woods and Elin reach a record $750 million divorce settlement?

We’ve been hearing for weeks that Tiger Woods and his estranged wife Elin are in the process of reaching an unbelievable $750 million dollar divorce settlement. That number sounded vastly inflated, because Tiger is thought to be worth about a billion dollars, and Elin would be receiving 3/4 of his assets for just six years of marriage. However People Magazine reported in early June that Tiger was willing to sign off on a settlement in the $700 million range as long as he was granted joint custody of his two children. People usually runs solid stories with decent sources, and that ballpark settlement number could be accurate.

Now The Sun is reporting that a record-breaking $750 million dollar settlement has already been reached, and that Tiger and Elin have agreed on shared custody. In exchange for a payday that nearly doubles the highest Powerball payout ever, Elin will have to keep quiet about what went on in her marriage. That doesn’t sound like too much of a hardship considering that Tiger’s many mistresses have pretty much dumped out that can of worms already. For his part, Tiger must agree not to bring single women around his kids unless he remarries:

Tiger Woods is banned from letting girlfriends near his kids in a divorce deal netting his ex a record $750 million settlement, The Sun reported Wednesday.

The golfer agreed to keep single women away from daughter Sam, three, and son Charlie, one.

He can bring a new flame into their lives only if he marries her. In return, former wife Elin Nordegren ,30, gets the biggest payout ever seen in a celebrity divorce.

But she can never publicly speak out over his alleged flings with socialite Rachel Uchitel, reality star Jaimee Grubbs, porn queen Joslyn James and up to 17 others.

A pal said: “Elin is desperate to protect the children from the womanizing side of their father.

“Tiger’s main fear is her telling her story after he’s rebuilt his reputation, sending him back to the gutter.”

Swedish ex model Nordegren ended up with double the sum she originally sought, after her lawyers proved Woods, 34, was worth much more than the $1billion she thought.

Her friend explained: “Elin’s legal team have done a great job digging up all sorts of assets.

“The price of the huge sum is her silence: no interviews, tell-all books, or TV appearances about this for the rest of her life — even if Tiger dies first — or she’ll lose the lot.”

The friend said: “Everything’s signed. Elin is ready to file for divorce at Orlando County Court. She expects to in the next seven days.”

Nordegren gets sole physical custody of their kids but they will split legal custody.

That means Woods will share decisions about their future — so Nordegren will not be able to permanently relocate them to her native Sweden.

Woods — believed to be building a golf resort in Dubai and investing in the Bahamas — will be able to see the kids for up to half of each week.

He can renegotiate the custody agreement in five years.

The pal said: “Elin admits that despite everything, Tiger loves his kids and has been a decent dad.

“She is confident he will not pursue seeing the children that much, due to his work and lifestyle.”

Under the no-girlfriends deal, only married women not romantically linked to Woods will be allowed around the children — plus female members of staff known to Nordegren.

Adding credence to this story, Radar reports that Elin has been in “marathon final meetings with her divorce lawyer” this week in her rented home in Isleworth, Florida. A source says that agreements have been made, but that the details of the financial arrangements will not be made public. “And when they file the papers there will not be a lot of detail in the public documents. They’ve worked everything out so that the financial details can remain private.”

Elin went through a lot, but is it worth $750 million dollars? Was Tiger ever worth a billion plus? Maybe his image was, but he managed to drive that into the ground with more philandering than we’ve ever known from a public figure.

    Wow…Just..WOW!

  2. YT says:

Whatever the amount, it is way more than in their prenup. You are right about the mistresses doing all the talking necessary. Since she never spoke about the situation before, I doubt she will ever feel the need to air anything in the press.

Glad it is almost over, and if the leaked terms are true, it is a pretty fair deal.

  3. Bite me says:

Damn that’s a lot of money

  4. Embee says:

The question of whether Elin (or any betrayed spouse) “deserves” the payout is really the wrong question, IMO.

This was a settlement negotiation, not a judicial decree.

The amount Elin ultimately receives will reflect what Tiger is willing to pay, given all the facts and circumstances. Let’s not make this about Elin’s worth.

    good for her!

  6. Dorothy says:

    good for her!!!

  7. Kaboom says:

$20 million divorce settlement, $730 million hush money, who wouldn’t take that if it was on the table?

  8. Kolby says:

It’s not 3/4 of his entire fortune, it’s 3/4 of what she was led to believe was his entire fortune. He’s obviously worth much more if she’s getting $750 million.

She certainly got her money’s worth with those lawyers, huh?

  9. Marjalane says:

I told you that was why she was getting that kind of cash! She can’t be flapping her lips about how nasty Tiger really is- gotta protect his “image”, you know! HA!

  10. DR.DJ, JD says:

    Wayyyy much money

  11. Hugh Betchya says:

What a sad pathetic legacy Tiger Woods is creating; yet the only good that will come of this is if Elin joins the growing ranks of the “super-rich” and becomes a philanthropic powerhouse. Perhaps championing women and children’s issues. There is NO way she needs that much money solely for living expenses.

I did not follow her and Tiger when they were married, so I am not aware of any special philanthropic activities (which is a real shame), but hopefully now both will be driven to bring good to the world apart, as they obviously bring nothing to the table as a couple.

Good luck to Elin. She pretty well has her whole life ahead of her now, and if she’s smart, a chance to make a difference! Who really wants to be known only as one of the most humiliated and financially rewarded former sports wives in history??

  12. flutters says:

The stipulations regarding women around the kids seems to make sense. Good job there right?

  13. susan says:

so once he remarries, he can start bringing the hookers back around the kids, eh?

  14. crab says:

In that first picture he’s looking at her like he’s thinking “man if she only knew!” Good luck to her she’s set for life!!

  15. Hautie says:

Ummm when did Uchitel become the “socialite Rachel Uchitel”?

Is that a nice spin for what she was, a jumpoff? haha!

The one positive thing I have always saw with Elin, was she never sought out the fame. During the marriage she was doing her own thing and raising kids. Not out trying to be “famous”.

Tiger had a nice wife who was not some famewhore. Then he screwed it up by banging every homely girl in Vegas.

And it is costing him $750 million.

Which I tend to agree with the idea that 20 million of that was divorce settlement and the other 730 million was hush money. The girl knows things that never made it to the newspapers.

  16. Luci says:

woods made 100M$+ last year acording to Forbes
Im not sure he can keep making that kind of money now that he’s out of golf and his ads are out, but still, he wont be left in rags

  17. RobN says:

She knows the truth about Tiger and performance enhancing drugs. She talks and he’s done forever and he was smart enough to know it.

  18. lucy2 says:

I’m betting it’s a combo of hush money and future earnings – I doubt he’s handing her a $750 mil check, I bet that’s the total amount she’s due to receive over the next ___ years.

I too hope she does some charity work with it. Might as well have some good come out of the whole thing.

  19. bellaluna says:

The only one responsible for putting TW’s “image in the gutter” is himself. That is all.

  20. ams1 says:

DAMN!!! remember that blu cantrell song??? elin just made it a reality.

  21. Vibius says:

Thats an absurd amount. Yea she should get some money but does she really need/deserve more than half of what he earned while they were married? Why should she be entitled to what he was worth before they even met? His reputation was already solid by then. Few people, outsides of the gossip world, knew he was married.

She must know something that could destroy him if hes willing to pay 750 million to shut her up.

  22. ams1 says:

@ RobN i agree!! i think its a combo of keeping golf stuff secret & keeping their kids from knowing this shit later on.

  23. Mistral says:

Obviously, it’s “hush money”. Tiger is banking (pun intended) on getting back into winning form, and keeping up his endorsements. He is hoping to spin this situation into a positive for himself.

The press went crazy exposing his hypocrisy and sleazy activities, because he had made so much money off of a reputation as a nerdy guy devoted to his “hot wife” and cute kids; he was this crazy-talented sports phenom who was also the “ideal” family guy. When everyone realized they had been conned regarding the image, the press made a lot of money off of exposing all of his salacious secrets, and the public was hungry for the nasty details.

However, Tiger’s people are smart enough to know that stories of redemption and career “resurrection” are just as popular as stories of “how the mighty have fallen”. Now, if Tiger gets back his competitive form, he will be “just like one of us—a guy who screws up and makes mistakes and loses things that matter to him through his own stupidity.” He could become even more popular with the “guy set” that seems to be who he is marketed to.

So, Elin is getting the hush money, and Tiger figures he’ll make back that money in the next few years. I think it is good that she gets this money, because I think she will think of it as her kids’ money and not “mama needs a new pair of breast implants/lip plumpers” money.

  24. canadianchick says:

Good for Elin. She’ll never be able to trust a guy again, but at least she and her kids will live well and hopefully do some good works with their money. Hope this sends a message to wealthy cheaters-play around and you get publicly shamed, don’t get to live with your kids, and lose wads of cash.

  25. Just a Poster says:

I don’t think anyone should pass judgement on her settlement, she just had better lawyers. Plain and simple.

  26. geez says:

That bitch from Nanny to multi millionaire, I aint even mad at her.

  27. irishserra says:

@Embee: I agree with you absolutely. Also, this might perhaps be a symbol of Woods’ contrition…or perhaps, the money is just not as important to him as the “esteem” he gained from all of his flings. We may never know and that’s just fine because at least Elin is out of that situation.

  28. Feebee says:

If this figure is true then
    a) Tiger must be worth more than $1B,
    b) Elin knows some really bad stuff,
    c) Tiger is really really really sorry.

  29. guesty says:

either he feels overwhelmingly guilty or he has some serious skeletons in his closet. what a payout!

  30. Patrice says:

Ugh. Once and for all, the “750 million” in question is Tiger’s TOTAL NET WORTH. Unless he was planning on unpresedentingly signing over his entire life savings, this story is comlete BS.

  31. moo says:

Let’s see… that equates to about $1M per whore…. yeah, that’s about right!

  32. Rita says:

“Tiger can not bring single women around his kids unless he remarries”??????? LOL

So apparently Elin wants his next wife to experience what she experienced. Tiger running around with single women if he gets remarried is what started all this. Just had to laugh at the phrasing.

  33. d says:

ITA re “a combo of keeping golf stuff secret & keeping their kids from knowing this shit later on.” and future earnings. That figure alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Holy smokes though, Elin’s legal team were TOTALLY kick-ass; they are set for life to have won this type of victory. And divorce lawyers everywhere must be walking around with dollar signs in their eyes now. It CAN be done!

  34. Henriette says:

” yet the only good that will come of this is if Elin joins the growing ranks of the “super-rich” and becomes a philanthropic powerhouse. Perhaps championing women and children’s issues. There is NO way she needs that much money solely for living expenses.” Agreed 100%, Hugh.

Sweden’s population is well under 10 million. Could you imagine the difference she could make to her WHOLE country if she moved home and put $700 million in a charitable Foundation? She’d still have $50 million – as well as child support payments – left to play with.

  35. Sincerity says:

If this is true, congratulations to the both of them! They worked together to craft a settlement in which the both of them can live with and jointly raise their children. I agree with Feebee, Elin must have had some extremely detrimental tales to tell that were better left unknown in the public arena. Now, Tiger can resume his career and hopefully comeback stronger than before.

  36. crtb says:

If I were Tiger I wouldn’t give her that much money. She’d get what her pre-nup said and no more. She would have to sell a book. Fcuk Her! There can’t be anything worse than what has come out already.

  37. ctkat says:

I read that Elin was really worried that Tiger might move on and make a “new family”, thus leaving her kids out of their inheritance.

So this deal makes sense: she’s set for life, she can ensure that her children are set for life, and she doesn’t have to think or worry about any future children/wives that Tiger will have.

Public sentiment has been so solidly on her side, you have to think that her silence was worth $750 million to him. She could effectively end his future earning potential with an explosive interview/book (besides the infidelity, I’m sure she has the dirt on the steroid/drug rumors, which will kill the career of a professional athlete).

  38. WTF?!? says:

    Kolby sounds right.

I’d’ve taken $250 mil and not agreed to the confidentiality agreement.

  39. Simone says:

Six years? She got way more than she deserved. She was a nobody from another country–a nanny. Let’s not forget that she attacked him with a golf club which left him with a bulging disc. He should have told the cops the truth. Who was his lawyer then?

  40. hmm says:

The story has already been debunked and she’s walking away with approx. $100 million not including child support.
