  1. I am so sick of celebrity reality shows. What gives these egomaniacs the idea that we want to watch them go about their daily lives?

This is one more TV show I will not be watching.

  2. Sorry, I already said this on another site, but feel the need to say it again here, because this whole thing just pisses me off so much! Which is stupid, I know, but oh well. It’s just that J-Lo has been a mother for all of six weeks or whatever, so I don’t quite understand what she knows yet about juggling motherhood and career. Furthermore, I don’t know WHY she knows — or would want to know — anything about it yet. Most women in America would kill to take a year off work to focus SOLELY on their children, but for many, it’s impossible, because they just can’t afford the time off. So they have to leave their 6-week or 6-month old in somebody else’s care while they schlep back to a meaningless 9-5 job for which they’re underpaid and undervalued. J-Lo can clearly afford to take as much time off as she wants, so it actually insults me that she doesn’t want to.

On top of that, I just can’t WAIT to see what J-Lo’s version of “juggling” is. Yes, life is so hard when you have two nannies, a chef, a housekeeper, a personal assistant, someone to do your grocery shopping, and a driver. Come over to my house, J-Lo, if you want to see what it really means to juggle motherhood and career.

Yup, I admit it, she makes me pretty sick.

  3. Yeah, I know. She’s crazy, self-absorbed, annoying and marginally talented but I can’t help it. I like her and I love Marc Anthony. She is so my guilty pleasure.

  4. I was just about to put that reality shows are the ultimate when it comes to celebrity shark jumping, and that you know their regular career is over…. then I saw your “I guess this challenges my assumption that reality shows are a last ditch effort by washed up or relatively low-level celebrities” paragraph. Right on.

  7. Granger- well friggin put. I guess with celebs they become scared that they wont stay relevant after kids if they take time off. But I totally agree… She has the LUXURY of having the option to focus on her children for a while at least a year! and she’s opting ot to… I can only hope when I decide to have kids that I have the opportunity to be a mom and not have to worry about a 9-5… but I don’t see how that’s likely to happen.

And if I wanted to see a celebrity mom do her thing I’d rather see how Gwen Stefani does it. She is so involved with her babies.

  8. Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Garner, even Nicole Richie all manage to continue to have careers and they still seem as if they are definitely putting their children first. Apart from that staged photo op we have not seen Lopez out with her children once, nor does she talk about them as if they’re a priority. But you know she’ll set something up once she realizes she needs to do it for the publicity.

  9. Career? Really? This is just pathetic. Why won’t this woman just go home and watch her babies being cared for by other people? Surely it can’t be that hard to just shut UP.

  10. Granger, for every person who has it hard, there is always someone who has it harder. I don’t understand why someone is only considered honorable if they’re suffering enough by another’s standards. Even if she did not have the nanny, chef, trainer, etc., she would still have it so much better than most of the world, but that makes her more tolerable? hardship is something different to each one of us - just because you have money, doesn’t mean you don’t have problems.

  11. Uhm bash her for being a self absorbed fame monkey and I’ll not say one word but getting peeved because she has decided to go to work even though she can afford to stay home smacks of chauvinism.

There are plenty of mothers out there who could live just fine on their husband’s incomes but have decided they would rather have a career as well. Are you going to knock them, too?

    It’s a double standard.

And please don’t tell me about how much time these mothers spend with their kids after work, blah, blah, blah . . . I have worked in every type of childcare setting imaginable and let me tell you, working mothers are no more noble than stay at homes ones. Both sides have their share of crappy self absorbed ones.

  12. headache, I really don’t know how you get from my comment that stay-at-home moms are more noble than working moms. Nor am I saying that a woman can’t be a successful career person and a loving mother at the same time. In fact, I believe just the opposite — because I’m a successful career woman with two kids. I’m simply saying that (a) Jennifer Lopez doesn’t even know the meaning of the word “juggle,” and (b) generally speaking, even women who love their career and want to work hard actually want to stay at home with their new baby for at least a year! I truly, honestly and absolutely don’t understand why Jennifer Lopez wouldn’t want to just focus on her children for a little while when she is far more priveleged than most of the women in the world who would kill to be in her situation. Obviously, she’s just another example of someone who can’t handle NOT being in the limelight.

  13. I didn’t say you said they couldn’t. I’m saying exactly what you just said at the bottom of your paragraph, that you feel she is selfish for wanting to go back to work instead of staying home with her babies for at least the first year.

So what if she doesn’t want to?

I have seen plenty of mothers who are very loving towards their children but have zero patience with the day to day aspects of their care. Some are even better mothers for it.

I don’t personally feel that way but I’m not about to condemn someone for feeling that way.

  14. headache, I actually very much agree with you in this. I do not think anyone has a right to comment on someone’s personal life unless they know them personally.

  15. I didn’t mean to suggest that going back to work is a bad thing at all! I mean it sucks for women who want to and can’t. Or men even … some men want to be the caregivers. I didn’t mean to sound so callus about it.

  16. Not to get into the Mommy wars again, but I’m a (happy) working mother and I can say this - most moms cannot shut up about their kids. Most new dads too.

I have no problem with JLo working her butt off, but think it’s curious she mentions her perfume and her movie but not all the dozens of fun moments her newborn babies must be creating every day.

Fun moments for somebody, at least. Marc? The help? She seems totally disengaged.

I thought the training for triathlon thing was insane, by the way. She’s supposedly doing this to “make her babies proud of me.” I highly doubt those babies care much about the triathlon.

  17. Kimora Lee's My Muse:

Although the premise reminds me so much of Kimora Lee’s, “Life In The Fab Lane,” I’ll still check the show. J-Lo is hot!
