I trust David Fincher he made Fight Club in the books she was supposed to be very pretty and young looking for the original movies they went rougher so with the right makeup its believable and since she is an unknown she doesn’t have all the baggage of say Kristin Stewart. I am giving it a chance.

  2. kaligula says:

should have been lindsay or no one

anyway thank God it’s not ellen page– that would have been just cruel

  3. Moss says:

In the books, she is not pretty. She is a tomboy and often referred to as unattractive by the cops and such. Not feeling this actress Lisbeth.

  4. mslewis says:

I don’t think she is “too pretty” at all. She’s just an ordinary looking girl and, if she is a decent actress, they can cut her hair, rough her up and she’ll do just fine. Being an unknown is a plus for her.

Of course, NOBODY will do as good a job as the original actors in the original movie, but they can give it a try. That movie was AWESOME and I’m planning to watch it again today because it’s streaming on Netflix. It’s a great movie, even with subtitles. I haven’t read the book but I might do that pretty soon.

  5. meme says:

Personally, I think the American films will pale next to the Swedish but I give this girl credit for taking on the role. She’s got some mighty big shoes to fill and she must have the confidence if she thinks she can pull it off. I’m rooting for her.

  6. Riley says:

Looks like Jenny is morphing into her best buddy Chelsea. They must have the same “dentist.” Oh and only dame goop would go to the beach dressed like she’s relaxing after a long day on the slopes in Aspen…grrr.

  7. danielle says:

I thought Ellen Paige would be good – girl has serious acting chops! But hopefully this girl will be good, I know nothing about her.

  8. Pleister says:

First, why a remake?! The original was pretty damn good and Noomi Rapace was so kick-ass awesome.
That said, I don’t know the girl so I hope she’ll surprise me, but I have serious doubts.

  9. Solveig says:

Oh, I understand, she’s an uber pretty actress who will play an almost ugly character and she will be an Oscar nominee as best supporting actress…
Is it too difficult to cast an already ugly actress instead?

  10. aenflex says:

    Too much powder foundation…

  11. Katie says:

She is definitely not supposed to be pretty in the books.

That being said, Mara’s prettiness is sort of a plain one…she has lovely features but nothing that stands out, so I think when they punk her up it could work. *could*

    We’ll see.

  12. gretchen says:

@riley…they’re all wearing somewhat long sleeves…the hamptons can def be breezy and cool

  13. Megan says:

    No.

  14. lo says:

Did she sleep with the director?

  15. Ron says:

meh. Hopefully she can pull it off. Fincher is a really good director.

  16. Fae says:

Good Christ, a young new actress who hasn’t hoisted her tits up to her chin or had her face carved. I like her already.

  17. lucy2 says:

She’s pretty, but not at all what I would have expected. She must be impressive though, to have landed such a sought after role.

  18. serena says:

I don’t like her face at all.

  19. Greaver says:

Good choice, after the new Nightmare on Elm street i’d hoped she’d find a break out roll.

  20. Julie says:

I don’t know this actress, but good luck to her. Noomi Rapace will be almost impossible to outshine. Count me as one of those who does not think this trilogy should be remade. The existing movies are excellent. So now we have British and American actors trying to play Swedes in Sweden. Sorry, just not feeling it.

  21. michkabibbles says:

for those that think rooney mara is too pretty to play lisbeth, image search noomi rapace. she’s strikingly beautiful and has gorgeous wavy hair. she looks very different with it grown out and long, i’d say she’s much prettier than mara, who is attractive in a rather bland way. i think that pulling off lisbeth has more to do with acting skills and attitude than looks. seeing some earlier-pre dragon tattoo pics of noomi, i don’t think i’d have picked her to pull off lisbeth like she did.

  22. Emily says:

Jesus, did anyone else read the comments on that Bieber link? His fans are scarier than Twihards!

  23. CB Rawks says:

    *Your clothes are sadly simple. And your hair looks almost as nature might have left it.* 😉 {Cool quote}
Is that what they were going for?

Also, stupid name. Sounds like she just flipped the names around.

  24. julie says:

@ cbrawks the last name is right, the mara family owns the new york giants, don’t know about rooney though. maybe they are fans of the rooney’s….joking. sorry i guess the only thing i felt like commenting on with this one is the name.

  25. maria says:

    spoilers
I read the books and got the impression that Lisbeth is pretty, but hides it under all her goth and tattoos and hate. I never got the impression she was unattractive. I got the impression that the vile men who raped her and tried to kill her were angered by her power, intelligence, and her manufactured outward appearance.

  26. texasmom says:

The Kate Gosselin pictures don’t seem funny to me. I think she is about to have a psychotic break. “Poor little rich mom.”

  27. san says:

She looks a lot like a young Emily Mortimer esp in the shot with the blue outfit.

  28. Camille says:

michkabibble: Yep, spot on, I agree.
And if this girl can act then she will do fine.
I don’t think there was even a need for a remake however, but whatever, this is Hollywood after all.

  29. Lady Nightshade says:

Why do they only hire actresses now that resemble 12 year old girls?

  30. Johnthing says:

    No No No.

  31. ligeia says:

looks like a nice girl that a guy would love to take home to mom. aka plain and not sexy.

  32. aly says:

Ah, this will be another great movie ruined by American remakes. I have a feeling this movie just won’t work – it’s so largely centered around swedish culture. Also Noomi Rapace already did a great job, I doubt she will be outshined by this whatsherface.

  33. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I’m in the wrong family, wish mine had that kind of pull–Kate Mara, anyone? Oh…maybe the name doesn’t *quite* make the man. Let’s hope this new recruit outshines the last attempt. Acting lessons could help, but why bother when there’s all of that sweet, sweet nepotism to be had?

  34. emma says:

    @cb rawks

her name does sound flip doesn’t it? but if i recall correctly, her first name is actually patricia or something and rooney is her middle name which is her mom’s maiden name.

    isn’t she kate mara’s sister?

  35. julie says:

i don’t know if it’s really nepotism, yeah kate mara is her sister but the family’s main business is football…maybe if she was just named kicker or qb for the team..

  36. LondonLady says:

@ aly. with ya. the swedish version is great (minus the very graphic rape scene) and does not need to be remade. Would be interesting to know if Steig Larson would have actually allowed it to be remade by hollywood.

  37. mockey says:

lisbeth face is supposed to be pretty, it’s her body which is not attractive. She’s supposed to be very petite and awfully skinny

  38. lizbeth says:

I think it so dumb to remake it. The original one was so AMAZING. I haven’t seen it and all ready know that it’s going to suck. Just looking at those pics of “lisbeth salander”. She looks NOTHING like the real lisbeth. They are making her look all girly girl up with a bit of ” goth punk”. The real lisbeth could never buy those kind of clothes. The real lisbeth is a badass woman not a fashion model. And y the hell have your own name tattooed on yourself? She can remember her own name people. Hollywood always F’s up movies/books just so they can make a lot of money. It’s sad really.

  39. Wow! Thank you! I permanently needed to write on my site something like that. Can I include a portion of your post to my blog?

  40. Zachary Eva says:

Every time you contemplate how far Joomla has come throughout the last couple of years it is really a struggle to not end up being in awe of the things they have implemented. I, personally, absolutely wish they carry on this great job and even keep on building the simplest CMS on the net.
