Lea Michele: My teachers were too threatened by me to teach me anything

nov10-cover

We were just sent Lea Michele’s cover shoot & interview excerpts for the November issue of Marie Claire UK. Oh. My. God. This chick is… crazy. I mean… I feel like a total bitch for criticizing her whenever I write about her, but my God, she really, really needs to take it down a notch. Just to do full-disclosure – I read about Lea’s diva antics before I even saw Glee. I still haven’t ever seen a full episode, but I get it. I get why people like the show. I get that Lea was typecast as the anal retentive tight-ass diva, probably because that’s who she is in real life. And I really believe that as Glee continues to succeed, it’s just going to get worse.

Okay – the Marie Claire slideshow is here, with some interview excepts. Here is what I’ve pulled out, and we’ll discuss this once you’re done. Take notes!

Lea on the pre-Glee days: ‘I was told by agents and casting directors I wasn’t right for TV,’ the self confessed Gleek says of her early days in the industry. ‘I didn’t feel that but I was told it and you believe it. I was always working on Broadway and auditioning for TV – things like Law & Order – but there was never anything’.

Lea is not a party girl: This gorgeous glee girl’s all grown up. But far from falling out of night clubs, there are no wild night’s out for the star. ‘These days I have one glass of wine and I’m completely gone,’ she says, sizzling in a Marchesa jacket and eye watering Givenchy heels. ‘I’ve never been a “Lets go out and have a cosmopolitan” kind of girl. I don’t even think I’ve ever tasted a cosmopolitan before.’ In fact, she’s actually oh-so-grounded. ‘This show would be a huge pressure on someone who wanted to rebel and who want to party, but I don’t have those needs or wants,’ she says. ‘I don’t smoke and I don’t do drugs,’ she says. ‘This show would be a huge pressure on someone who wanted to rebel and who wants to party, but I don’t have those needs or wants.’

Lea on her own beauty: Lea got glam in dazzling D&G as she posed for the snappers, stepping into some simple Louboutin heels to finish the look. And she definitely shone for the cameras. ‘Glee has made me feel beautiful. Now when people say that I don’t feel like they’re lying. Glee has shown me that I am beautiful, that I can be beautiful no matter what I look like, what my weight it is. I grew up in a community where what I looked like wasn’t considered beautiful and then I work on this show that proves it doesn’t matter what you look like, that you’re beautiful and that beauty is on the inside… so, yeah, I’m thankful.’

Lea on her tattoos: And her secret vice? Tattoos. She has nine, each chronicling a significant milestone in her life. ‘They’re all tiny. I mean, you saw me in the shoot today, I was practically nude. Did you see any? No. I’m telling you, I have nine. All so, so, so little.’

Lea on how great Glee is: As a self-confessed Gleek, Lea’s Glee’s number one fan. ‘What I love about our show is that it opens your eyes to a lot of things without being preachy,’ she says.

Lea on how her teachers were jealous of her: But despite her early break, she went relatively unnoticed at school. ‘My acting teacher and music teachers didn’t really like me and they kind of ignored me. I think that they were threatened by the fact that I had worked before. Maybe it made them feel uncomfortable. I would have loved for them to have taught me but maybe they felt like they couldn’t. They just ignored me and didn’t really pay attention to me.’ When asked how that made her feel, Lea says: ’Like they were stupid, that it was pretty silly of them. I’m on a show called Glee right now and I could sing their praises, but unfortunately I don’t have anything to say.’

Lea on how she’s not a diva: Despite Glee’s international success, Lea’s no diva. ‘I feel very equal to my cast and I feel like I couldn’t do what I do without them,’ she says.

[From Marie Claire UK]

The two parts that immediately jumped out at me and had me rolling my eyes were the “I’m so gorgeous” part and the “my teachers were totally jealous of me” part. For goodness sake! Yes, the girl is cute, and yes, she’s got a great voice. But she really thinks she’s the second coming of Barbra Streisand, doesn’t she? And while I think it’s great that a young star – with her first blush of international stardom – is still level-headed and confident, Lea’s blowing “confident” out of the water. She’s treading into some very narcissistic waters, and a little humility never hurt anyone. Especially considering that while Glee is popular right now, I personally don’t think it’s going to still be on the air in two years. And yes, more people are probably tuning into NCIS, like me. Just my opinion. As for her teachers and how they were too jealous to teach her anything – get off the cross, Lea, people need the wood. It probably never occurred to her that perhaps her teachers saw her as an anal-retentive narcissist who would never deign to take their advice anyway.

  1. bizzy says:

on behalf of teachers everywhere, i’d like to say that, oh yes, the reason some students learn nothing from us is indeed that we’re overcome with awe and admiration for them.

    oh yes.

  2. RHONYC says:

    she’s never had a cosmo.
    i’ve never watched her show.

    we’re even. 🙂

  3. Kolby says:

There’s something about her face that turns me off. She looks like a young Lisa Edelstein, but not as attractive? Does that even make sense? It did in my head.

  4. Melanie says:

You should see the youtube video of why they cast her where she sings for her audition, it shows just why they cast her. She bosses people around in her audition.

  5. eja102 says:

    I like quinn better.

  6. Kaiser says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks she’s a little narcissistic monster who should SIT DOWN.

Kolby – FOR SHAME. Lisa Edelstein is so pretty! Lea reminds me of Valerie on Project Runway.

  7. Me1st says:

please, you are young and dumb, end of story and IMO i dont see that she is that attractive

  8. tracking says:

I think acute hunger pains have triggered a full-blown psychosis. Holy crap!

  9. Kitten says:

    Her face upsets me.

  10. serena says:

“I feel very equal to my cast..”

Your cast? I think they may have something to say about that!

  11. Laura says:

Umm… what’s so great about this chick? I’ve never seen more Glee except a clip from the Britney episode, but honestly, I really wasn’t impressed with what I heard.

  12. Melanie says:

I know the journalist says, ‘jealous’ but it really seems like she meant ‘intimidated’.

If she went to a public school it probably had nothing to do with her anyway. They probably figured since she already had experience with those things then she was just one less person they would have to bother dealing with as long as she wasn’t a behavioral issue.

Sadly and typically, in public school, if you aren’t causing alot of trouble the teachers are just happy to ignore you. Ironically, even though public school is supposed to be preparing you for something, it is much more a reactionary day care than anything else.

  13. pinky says:

Notice how she refers to the others as ‘HER’ cast.

    She’s so full of herself.

  14. Anastasia says:

Oh Lord. Shut up, Lea. Yeah, I like Glee and I DON’T like her.

  15. Melanie says:

Oh, also, I think Glee is preachy. I like it but I would never say it isn’t preachy.

  16. Rachel says:

I also liked the part where she talks about how she’s beautiful no matter what size she is. Well then why exactly did she feel the need to lose half her body weight between Seasons 1 and 2??

  17. ams511 says:

doesn’t she have any friends to tell her to stop acting like a brat? she sounds like a jerk.

  18. Hautie says:

I hope she saves her money.

Cause she is probably not going to have many chances to work again, if she keeps up the nasty back handed comments.

And she probably was a complete pill in high school. Constantly letting everyone know that she had already been on Broadway. And the rest of them were peons. haha!

  19. grace says:

    lol @bizzy
I’m also a teacher, and I’m glad she enlightened me about the real reason some students can’t seem to learn as much as I expect. I should be less jealous in order to engender learning.
Also, she is not gorgeous. She’s just OK.

  20. Eileen says:

I’ve never seen Glee-but she won’t last long if she continues down this attitude road!
BTW LOVE that dress on the cover!

  21. Katie says:

She comes across as being pretty into herself, but it doesn’t help that her character on the show is like that. It’s hard to know how much of the impression we have of her is conflated with her character on Glee.

I love how she mentions feeling beautiful at any weight, even though she recently dropped a ton of weight when she was already thin. Suspect.

  22. jen says:

I think she’s kinda goofy looking. And if she keeps spouting off like an entitled a-hole she’ll lose her fan base ala that Katherine Heigel chick.

  23. Whatever says:

Yeah, I’m sure the teachers were intimidated/jealous of her. Delusional bitch. She isn’t bad looking, just very ordinary. I see women as pretty as her in the supermarket and in the parking lot of school, so she should take it down a notch!

  24. GeekChic says:

I’m really not much of a Glee fan at all. I’ve caught the occasional episode, and it’s not really my thing. But I can see why some people are enamored with it — it does have a certain type of charm.

I do think, however, that this article is too harsh on Lea. She never said she was gorgeous, she said that being on Glee has given her the confidence to see the beauty in herself. There’s nothing wrong with that, and women in general would be a lot happier if they could do that as well. And truly, so what if she had said she was gorgeous? What is wrong with a woman thinking she is beautiful?

I can also see what she means about her drama/voice teachers not bothering with her. She started on Broadway at a very young age, and by the time she was in high school, she had vastly more stage experience than her teachers. I can absolutely see how she could be snubbed for that. Many teachers are great, but at the end of the day, they are human, and are subject to the same insecurities as the rest of us. I’m not saying that it happened exactly the way she said it did, just that it’s plausible.

Obviously, I don’t know Lea, but from what I have read she seems to be a very hard working person who is a perfectionist and holds herself to high standards. I’ve personally never gotten the “insufferable diva bitch” vibe from her, and the quotes from this interview reinforce that perception.

  25. lucy2 says:

Up to this point I’ve been trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but now I’m starting to believe the diva stuff.
She has a great voice, I liked her in Season 1, and I enjoy some of the songs she’s done, but she needs to take it down a notch.
The “my cast” thing sits wrong with me, like everyone else is just her back up singer. Plus, the writers are making her character an evil shrew this season, so she may find herself a lot less popular soon too.

I’d like to know who told her that jamming her rib cage to one side is a good look, because she does that pose all the time now!

  26. Eve says:

She’s really full of herself, isn’t she? Meh, don’t like the show, don’t like her.

  27. allison says:

she sounds annoying but i will never bitch about her because Glee is amazing…

…OK I have one little bitch comment to say: ever since I’ve learned (from this website, lol) what a diva she really is, I’ve wanted to see less of her in Glee. Shes too much the star of the show and there are so many other characters I find more interesting.

  28. liz says:

Yeah, everyone on this Glee cast sings terribly – -I always feel like people who sing musical theater ALL have the same generic sound. Blech. Good that you got what you wanted, chick, but this is all just musical theater – -will never be either music or theater individually.

  29. Laurie says:

Her diva attitude and behaviors (even if just an overblown rumor) will eventually turn people away from her AND the show. She thinks she will always be on top of the world…but that just is not how it works. In 10 years people will have to think hard to remember Glee and who starred in it.

  30. Lindy says:

Okay, yes, this girl has seemed like a bratty diva from the first moment I heard anything about her (and I still haven’t been able to make myself watch and episode of Glee).

But can we talk about the best part of this post? Kaiser’s line “Get off the cross, people need the wood.” I plan to shamelessly steal that one. Made my day!

  31. Amanda says:

Interesting….because, as a teacher, there was nothing that was MORE exciting and wonderful than when I got to see a student have success. Since we don’t know Lea’s teachers’ side to the story, we can’t know why she didn’t receive the special attention she felt she deserved. I do hope she feels good up there on her high horse.

FYI- I don’t believe her about realizing it “doesn’t matter what her weight is”. She just dropped like 75309750173 pounds. She’s incredibly skinny- looks like a lollipop with that huge head.

  32. Kaiser says:

    Lindy – I can’t take credit for that, it’s a Southern expression!

  33. Oi says:

Yikes…with you all the way Kaiser. As someone who has no interest in Glee whatsoever, all I have ever heard about this girl is that she is like she is in this interview.

    And how is Glee preachy?

  34. paranel says:

I only watched Glee once when Britney Spears was on ( and will not watch it again). Frankly she was the only in the show who sucked the most and looked like a bowl of overcooked lumpy oatmeal. She also murdered Britney’s song. 35 thumbs down.

  35. California Surfer says:

This article totally got me thinking what is the difference between self confidence and narcissism. This article gives a good explanation.

    http://thinkingwoman1.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/the-difference-between-narcissism-and-self-confidence/

  36. K says:

Tick tock, bitch. 5 minutes left on your clock.

(Are those shoes leather? Someone alert Deceiver the PeTA hypocrite is still going strong!)

  37. Beth says:

Kaiser, what is your opinion that Glee won’t be on in two years based on? Look at all of the crappy shows that get more than 5 seasons, and Glee is a really good, unique show.

I find Lea Michele to be a little annoying, too, and her weight loss is definitely a concern, but all you people commenting are really mean, saying whether she’s pretty or not, from behind the anonymity of your computer, where no one can see your fat rolls and adult acne. Seriously. Calm the hell down.

  38. normade says:

Yes, she thinks her cast is equal to her…the ENTIRE cast equals in value to one Lea Michelle

  39. TG says:

I don’t find her even pretty, she isn’t ugly but does not have anything interesting to look at and she reminds me of a very bland 1980’s looking person. Although, the fact that she supports animal rescue raises her up in my book enormously. I have never seen the show just her ugly face everywhere trying to trick us at thinking it beautiful.

  40. Victoria says:

I think we have our brunett Dame Heigel!

  41. Victoria says:

Guys SHE is not THAT pretty, really!

  42. esblondie says:

I find it very interesting that when she first got on the scene with all this Glee crap, she had some more pounds on her and spouted off in every interview how women are beautiful at any weight (which I totally agree). Now suddenly she’s much thinner and talking about how great it is. Way to set an example for all the younger girls watching Glee, you dumbass.

And for the record, she looked way better with more pounds, IMHO.

  43. gg says:

ho lord, here comes another one …

  44. Megan says:

the teacher comments really gets me! she sounds like a know-it-all. i had a guy in my college class that was like that, everytime the teacher said something they guy had to comment on how thats not how he did it, finally my teacher was like “Do you wanna come up here and teach the class?” lol. she needs a slice of humble pie 🙂

  45. vi says:

i do think she’s very pretty but she does sound like a brat and while i like glee and like her character she’s putting me off.

  46. Isa says:

She reminds me of a cartoon character with that nose, but I can’t put my finger on it.

I think that she is trying to revamp her image, her annoying qualities just keep shining through.

  47. Rhona says:

I agree with GeekChic(24)! And while everyone else is falling over themselves to say how un-beautiful they find her – the point Ms. Michele is trying to make is that she finally feels beautiful, even though most people do not find her traditionally beautiful. And we should all take something from that.

  48. ChilyPepperChily says:

She’s not that attractive … something in her face creeps me out. And no doubt, without Photosh*p it could be even worse.

  49. mree says:

I think she’s rather plain, there’s nothing that really draws me to her

    blah!

  50. KatHug says:

My friend was the stage manager of an off-broadway show with Lea. She said she was a totally bitch & diva way back then

  51. Peekaboo says:

I went to performing arts schools, and I think Lea is right in what she says. Most of the teachers didn’t have what it took to make it big, so they taught about it. The students who had actually worked in the business were almost looked down upon, whether they bragged about it or not. There can be some resentment on the teachers’ part.

Also, she doesn’t say she’s gorgeous. She’s confident, which is something that so many young women need. Maybe if they had more confidence there would be less violence against women, eating disorders, etc. (Lea became a vegan, thus the weight loss.)

I don’t know how many of you remember what you were like at 25, but I do. Thank goodness I was given the chance to be stupid and grow out of it. Love her or hate her, she’s still a kid. Give her a break.

  52. Iggles says:

Um, I don’t get the hate for this girl. She never actually said her teachers were jealous!! The magazine summed it up as such!

She was asked a question and she answered it. Was she supposed to lie and say her teachers taught her all she knew? Especially when she didn’t get along with them?

I don’t think this interview warrants the hatred I’m hearing on this thread!

  53. sara says:

    she’s assertive
    has an opinion
    speaks her mind
consequently, people are going to call her a diva

    the woman has talent
    period

  54. Bodhi says:

She is interesting looking, for sure, but I do not find her attractive in the least. And her attitude makes her down right ugly.

  55. nnire says:

like some of you have pointed out, she doesn’t say ‘i am absolutely gorgeous and i am better than my teachers’.

saying that one ‘feels beautiful’ is different than declaring that they are the most beautiful person in the world or even more beautiful than someone else. isn’t a healthy self esteem what we should all be aiming for?

saying that she believes her teachers might have been threatened by the fact that she had worked before is quite different than declaring that her teachers were threatened by HER.

i don’t want to suggest that she is or is not a diva; not having met or worked with her before, i don’t think any of us can say what she is or is not like in real life. i just get the feeling that since her character is a diva, bloggers and reporters are somehow desperately trying to prove that to be true in real life. there are bigger celebrities that are confirmed divas, whom are way more fun to read about.

  56. anon1 says:

Her voice isn’t even the best on the show as far as I’m concerned. I’m glad they are giving others more opportunities to sing.
That girl that played Sunshine the Filipino exchange student-SHE can sing!

  57. Ycnan says:

ah, i don’t think it was that bad. i like what she said about beauty and she didn’t actually say her teachers were jealous, just that she wanted attention in high school for something she was good at like EVEY OTHER TEENAGE out there.

i do think she is really pretty but those bangs on the show this season, they are so fug.

  58. Jeri says:

She sure pushes the envelope in a Mariah type way. She is beautiful, when I first saw her I thought her nose was too big but now I’m glad she never went under the knife to conform to the thin Hollywood nose so in vogue with most actresses.

I see why eveyone makes fun of her tude & she definitely has one.

I appreciate those women that have the courage to be unique.

    Yeah, she’s a Diva but I can’t help it. I’m still a fan.

  59. lucy2 says:

sara, I think there’s a difference between being opinionated and outspoken, vs. putting yourself on a pedestal and treating others as inferior. Sadly I think Lea is leaning towards the latter.

I think she’s pretty, but was prettier last season when she wasn’t so skinny. Her comments about her looks are fine, I agree she’s talking about feeling beautiful, not saying “I am gorgeous”. It was the other comments that turned me off.

  60. Novaraen says:

Have never watched the show but everything in the news about this girl points to her being a huge b*tch. After reading that interview….I agree…she is a b*tch. I suppose that starvation diet she is on doesn’t help her attitude either.

  61. Melanie says:

The morning radio deejay I occasionally listen to has a daughter that’s very interested in acting. He said she went to some kind of acting summer camp with her sometime in the past. He said her daughter described Lea as very talented and confident but not a bitch. I’ve seen her in interviews and she comes off as nice but confident. She probably just doesn’t come off well in print.

  62. Mandhy says:

She makes no sense. In the Glamour magazine I bought last week she said ‘she believed she was beautiful no matter what, and she owed that to her family’ in this magazine she says she was raised in a culture that didn’t think she was beautiful and it was Glee that made her feel that way. Get it straight or get off the podium. I saw one clip of this shit show the other day….NEVER AGAIN. It’s pretty stupid….

  63. katie.h. says:

I didnt read all the comments. but she isnt refering to ALL teachers, just her acting/singing/drama ones. there may be a different relationship with a math teacher vs a drama teacher. im sure a drama teacher would like to appear in a broadway show just as an english teacher may want to be published.

  64. Musicfan says:

I love Glee but anyone who watches it knows that Lea Michelle, is the STAR of Glee. The writers have made Rachel the focal point, and everyone is background. Despite what they may claim so if Lea has a big ego its because they GAVE IT TO HER.

Yes, I preferred her when she was 20 pounds heavier, but she is still a beautiful woman. She is 24/25 years old. She just made it big and is enjoying the sucess. Glee will last about 5 years because they can’t let the cast be in their 30’s in HS. Its just not believable.

However on this weeks episode. She had NO buisness singing Britney Spears music, the other actresses/singers did Britney justice. She just couldn’t do the iconic remake/video. She can’t dance well and her voice didn’t fit the song. The way the others did. It seemed like special treatment from Ryan because Lea was bragging about how she met Spears, and was the ONE that got to do “Hit me Baby one more time”. While the others didn’t. She may turn into Heigl but I hope not. I really like her and Cory Montieth.

  65. Xx says:

Britney S. Piers kicked her ass all over town this week. Sorry Kid!

  66. TeeTee says:

She may want to take a bite of humble pie, STARS are born every day and she is NOTHING special in the looks department–with that beak nose.

never watched Glee and never will.

being “assertive and sure of herself
is totally different than being FULL of herself, pompous and average looking.

she has alot to learn — she should have listened to her teachers, instead of “knowing it all” like a shout out from her –is so merited..let’s see where she is in 5 yrs.

she looks like a pelican that is full of herself.

  67. Jeri says:

Christina Aguilera wrote a song called “Beautiful” that is perfect for situations like this. Everyone should think they are beautiful.

Relax, don’t take it so seriously.

  68. JJS says:

There is something about her eyes that creeps me out; she is cross-eyed or something. And she is not a “great” singer. I think her singing is overrated, but then I grew up in a generation where people could REALLY sing. Not like today where you don’t have to be able to sing to have a singing career. I saw her singing a Barbara Streisand song on the Tony awards show, and I was like, Bitch please! She is no where near the singer Streisand is; just stop. And I won’t watch Glee because of HER. Surely they could find another female lead to take her place. Once Glee is over, she won’t find much work because she is very unlikeable. She reminds me of Katherine Heigl with her diva attitude. Tick tock.

  69. Newyorking says:

Who the hell is she? Love the shoes in the last photo!

  70. guesty says:

she’s not all that & neither is that show.

  71. Mairead says:

I am a total Gleek, that said, there were ceiling tiles at my old school that were more threatening than this yoke!

  72. ME says:

I think she has a man face.

  73. Kitten says:

“Glee will last about 5 years because they can’t let the cast be in their 30’s in HS”

So based on that comment, I take it that “Beverly Hills, 90210” was before your time? (*side-eye to Andrea Zuckerman*)

  74. Jeannified says:

This girl is too full of herself to ever get that far in Hollywood.

  75. Jenna says:

she thinks WAY too highly of herself and for some reason thinks she is wayy better looking than she actually is. she’s average… she’s not even that pretty at all. i don’t understand why she’s constantly prancing around like she is? also, if weight doesn’t matter, why did u lose like 100 lbs before the second season? huh? HUH? fraudster.

  76. Liana says:

I went to performing arts schools, and I think Lea is right in what she says. Most of the teachers didn’t have what it took to make it big, so they taught about it. The students who had actually worked in the business were almost looked down upon, whether they bragged about it or not. There can be some resentment on the teachers’ part.
    ******************

I didn’t find that to be the case at all. I went to LaGuardia, then to LACHSA, went to the Tisch Center for college, and studied with a couple coaches, including John Homa. My teachers and professors were all consummate professionals and didn’t “look down on” working actors at all.

  77. koala says:

she sucks. bad face, bad attitude.

    she’s a man, baby.

  78. Juice in LA says:

I have never read anything about this child that didn’t make me think she was very clearly a See YoU Next Tuesday.

And I cant stand her on Glee, makes the show hard for me to watch…

  79. di butler says:

If you watch her discuss her audition for Glee, she was a total diva beeyotch, and in her own words said she was just being her self. Then she says that attitude got incorporated into her character. So, her obnoxious personality was lost on her, but not on the producers. Plus, the show is nothing but a platform for musicians now. I liked it last season, but now it is just becoming a marketing plan to sell songs on itunes. A shame.

  80. hmm says:

I don’t get this show. I’ve only seen a couple clips from the Britney Spears hype and could barely sit through those. It looked really dumb, and the actors were awful.

  81. Katija says:

This may be oh so catty, but maybe your acting teachers didn’t coddle you because they took one look at your face and didn’t want to give you false hope that you were going to be a huge movie star.

Sweetheart, your role on Glee is an annoying, average looking girl with a huge booming voice. If you think you’re going to do anything besides Broadway when your show is done, you’re delusional.

  82. Nadine says:

With this trend of talking about teachers as if they were saints, I find this refreshing.

I have fond memories of one caring teacher, thanks to whom I live a better life. All the other teachers were bored and indifferent, and couldn’t wait for the day to be over. Books and TV were my real teachers.

  83. Liana says:

If you think you’re going to do anything besides Broadway when your show is done, you’re delusional
    ***************

I would rather be on stage than anywhere else – I loved it. Now that work on the other side of the camera, I REALLY appreciate the stage so much more.

  84. Melanie says:

    @ katija,
it seems like her teachers were wrong.

  85. Melanie says:

I’d rather do broadway too. If I had the talent to do either, I would prefer to be more obscure.

  86. Dingles says:

    That’s adorable.

  87. Mistral says:

Hmmm… She doesn’t sound so bad. She sounds like someone who had low self-esteem and who never felt good enough because the people around her made her feel that way, growing up. So now, she’s saying, “screw you all! I have made it, and all of those shitty things I felt about myself, and that I thought you felt about me, are wrong! I’m finally happy!” That’s the sense I get.

Also, all kids are different. She seems pretty type A, and teachers can be annoyed by those kids. Kids don’t realize how they come off sometimes, and adults/teachers are only human. If they don’t like someone and think they are a bit bratty, they may inadvertently show it.

  88. Bee says:

I agree with Kaiser that Glee will be off the air in 2 years. I like Glee but I think it will burn out very quickly. I mean the Glee kids have to graduate at some point, and the show is already very repetitive as it is. How many times can the kids learn to accept themselves and sing it out in song? There is no real room for character growth on this show. And Lea needs to enjoy her little moment in the Sun. Because once Glee’s over it’s back to the stage for her. Oh, and I’m definitely using that cross line. Love it.

  89. walker says:

I think the show’s annoying. And SHE is definitely annoying.

I saw the Britney episode and the whole time I just thought: “Most of the episode is just about copying (recreating?) music videos.”

I mean that was what MOST of the episode was! So I don’t see what all the hype is about.

I’ll also say that the show’s writers have a pretty easy job.

  90. la chica says:

so Lea has sold out. how sad. how soon before she starts with the plastic surgery (nose, boobs, rib removal).

  91. Budda DeCat says:

I like Glee in spite of Lea Michele — I watch it for Jane Lynch and the rest of “her cast” not for her. But the writers this season are making her character insufferable — maybe it’s payback? As for her looks, she is ok and that is WITH all the makeup, lighting etc. Now that she has lost all that weight she is looking worse, IMO. When her face was a little fuller it carried her nose better. Now she has a tiny face with a huge nose– it doesn’t blend at all.

  92. Jewelia says:

What is with some of these actors? She should be careful if she wants to be more than just a flash in the pan.

  93. Anon says:

Jane Lynch is the real star of that show….it’s the ONLY reason I have ever even seen it.

And that’s exactly why they cast her…she is that character…she’s actually not really acting.

Which is common with actors…when they find a part they do well, it’s often not because they’re an amazing actor, but because their real personality is the character they are playing.

And when they attempt other roles, the acting falls short because they’re aren’t playing themselves.

  94. Joi says:

I really didn’t think any of it was that bad. She could have used different wording in several of those quotes, but none of it is overly self absorbed. She’s on the cover and they’re INTERVIEWING HER. She can talk about herself, she’s being ASKED about herself!

  95. 4Real says:

Okay so why you posing with your legs all open then Miss thang??

  96. phillygirl8 says:

Okay I don’t ever write a response ever…This chick however drives me nuts enough to just want to say. I don’t watch Glee but I was “lucky” enough to have a boss who played it on her i-pod A LOT. There is a whiny annoyness to Lea’s voice that is like nails down a chalkboard to me…Secondly, Lea you are not that great looking…dropping 30 lbs just makes you have a larger looking head. Please get over yourself…I can almost guarentee that your teachers we not “jealous” of your beauty and talent..they pro just found you self absorbed and obnoxious.

  97. painsofbeingpureatheart says:

I love Lea, she’s not drop dead gorgeous but she’s not ugly. She has more talent than most young stars out now. That teacher comment was a little bratty but she’s been on Broadway since she was like 8. So come on people give her a break! She’s pretty much been my role model since she was in Spring Awakening!!

  98. mary says:

How is she even pretty? Put her in a wig and she’d look like a man!

  99. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I guess it depends on the type of art you`re studying as well. I was never a full-on performing arts person, just classical music. All of the instructors I encountered were either actively involved in a performing career at the same time and took artist-in-residence posts or just bummed off to tour in some cases, or were retired and took up emeritus posts. Either way, they had all proven themselves to everybody, so they couldn`t be assed with over-indulging or demonizing their students (classical performers can get pretty danged shattered in the confidence department on their own). A lot of the training has to do with moving about in those circles and what type of management and personality gets results in those worlds. And instrument made a difference. Kind of strange, sometimes.

  100. gamblea says:

    too much photoshopping, icky

  101. jemshoes says:

If I had to make money from my own voice, I’d seriously be broke and homeless! 🙂 So it’s not a criticism when I say I’ve watched a few episodes of Glee and thought her voice was OK but not spectacular. The girl can sing, but not all songs suit her voice. (Actually, I can say this about the entire cast of Glee, and I still enjoy watching the show.) And I like that she’s not a conventional Hollyweird beauty.

As for the interview, I thought it was fairly benign – until she had a go at her acting and music teachers. Her comment of being on a show like Glee and not being able to sing praises for the teachers who ignored her is mean-spirited and petty. Diva or not, Lea definitely did not take the higher ground on this occasion, and that’s a shame!

  102. Jag says:

When is she going to shut up?

  103. CB Rawks says:

Actually I sort of know what she’s talking about, because I had an art teacher that totally ignored me for the year, and then stole all my art. I went in to collect it all (paintings, pottery, etc) and take it home like all the other kids were doing, but it was all missing.
Then a year later I saw another teacher with one of my coffee mugs, and she said it had been a gift from my art teacher.

Lea should not have to praise teachers that were bad, that would be phony. And there really are a lot of bad ones. One teacher told my husband he would’nt get into Uni, and not only did he get in with ease, he also got his PhD. Sometimes you have to wonder what their motivations are for trying to tear down a youthful spirit.

  104. becca says:

If she really thought she was so beautiful, then she wouldn’t have lost the weight. She was curvier at her heavier weight, but it still looked like she was at a healthy weight. I kind of liked it when she was curvier.

So yeah, no. Glee isn’t my cup of tea anyway.

  105. becky says:

i just watched the interview. she wore the cutest shirt or hoodie to the shoot. Very few people can be divas and have that work in their favor, like Mariah and etc…
IMO, her body looks better but her face looked cuter with a little more weight. But imagine if your whole life that people had been telling you tahat you are too ugly for tv despite being extremely talented… give her a break. shes new to success and fame.. imagine all the amazing clothes offered to her now, i would probably have gone on a diet too. i think Rachel berry totally makes the show, and Ryan Murphy himself said he based a lot of the character on her. But if she’s smart, she’ll become friends with people responsible for her lighting, the camera men. and the hair and makeup people. oh, and Quinn is soooo pretty/

  106. Musicfan says:

LOL at 90210. Yes I was way young when it started but after S3 the cast graduated high school. The show continued for 10 seasons, but they were NOT HS students! They showed them in college, and as adults trying to find their way.

Glee can’t go on for 10 years because the show is based on “High School”/ the teacher Will and the “Glee club”. All the actors are in their 20’s playing students. How exactly will they sell that in S6? They are already juniors they can’t play that game of “I got to get to chemistry class” at 33 just because they got on a hoodie and a backpack. Are Rachel/Lea carrying a bunch of art supplys due to the fact she is pregnant with twins.

  107. Liana says:

I’m just curious as to how many drama teachers she actually had at Tenafly High School. She didn’t go to a performing arts school, she went to a regular high school when she wasn’t homeschooled. According to her bio, she also attended Stagedoor Manor, which has an amazing reputation and coaches who would not be intimidated by the talent that comes through their doors every summer (alumni include Robert Downey Jr, Natalie Portman, Adam Pascal). And she opted NOT to attend Tisch, even though she was accepted. I could see high school drama and music teachers “ignoring” her because she wasn’t going to be in any of their performances because of her schedule. They would have had to take time away from people needing more guidance to focus on her. Anyway, whatever. She’s a very talented stage actress.

  108. PennyLane says:

I wonder if it ever occurs to readers that celebrities, with all their money, pomp and circumstance, are people. They suffer from the same insecurities as us regular folk. So maybe take a look at yourselves and be grateful that your insecurities are not projected into the limelight everyday.

  109. MissVJJ says:

    Who is this person?

  110. Suzy Q says:

Oh dear. Some people just should not give interviews.

  111. Liana says:

So maybe take a look at yourselves and be grateful that your insecurities are not projected into the limelight everyday.
    ************

She CHOSE to project her insecurities smack dab into the limelight.

  112. Lily says:

I agree with #24 as well. And on a tangent, why do almost all the articles on this website involve bashing someone, especially the women? How does “Glee has made me feel beautiful” become Lea being conceited? There’s nothing wrong with calling someone out for bad behavior, but Jesus. I used to like coming here a while ago, but I think it’s time for me to find someplace else to get my gossip fix.

  113. i watched the how for the first time for britney’s episode and i thought she sang the song poorly. i also wasn’t impressed by her looks. she looks like valerie of project runway fame but valerie has a good personality. i love how she refers to the others as her cast.

  114. oxana says:

By her face you could even see she thinks she is a diva, and better then anyone else. I mean she seriously thinks her teachers were threaten? maybe they just knew she was a snob, so they didn’t teach her anything, or better yet maybe her face was so stuck up in her ass that she didn’t pay attention, maybe thats why she was never called for other movies…

  115. Ferguson. says:

I’m a Glee fan, and I dont care about her, is more like ‘meh, whatever’. So, as long as she keeps up with the great singing, I don’t mind at all if she’s kind of ‘cocky’.

  116. TotalGleek says:

I dont think anything in that interview was bad… So what, she thinks she’s pretty?? I wish all women would think they were gorgeous… shes NOT a diva and she’s NOT up herself or anything, i think shes an amazing actress and very talented and I would love to meet her one day, she is definately someone i look up to 😀

  117. Dawn says:

Haha I just noticed on the lower right corner, the article “women who kill their children”. What the hell?!!

  118. Gretchen says:

HA “equal to MY cast”, kind of a contradiction in terms! Has anyone told her its called glee, not the lea show?

I mean credit where credit is due, the girl can sing, but act? Not so much. In glee she just seems to be playing herself and she’s so overboard with the theatrics that i’m not sure she’ll get many tv/movie jobs after it. i don’t think any form of subtlety or nuance is in her range as an actor.

  119. Gretchen says:

oh, and another thing…her posing is just horrendous! What is with her left hand in the top pic? It’s in some sort of pose no-mans-land between her waist and boob. As for the well documented GQ spread, i have one word for her pics: GRATUITOUS

  120. Kasey says:

She never said her teachers’ were jealous of her. She said they were threatened, which is a possibility. Maybe they believed what you believe…she would be a bitch. A person who would show them up, be like “That’s not what I was taught on broadway”.

Of course though…you hear “I was ignored as a child, and the only reason I can understand is through my earlier experience” and you go with “She’s a diva! Narcisstic bitch.”

I am appalled by all of you who think this way. Get some positivity in your life, and stop being bitches.

  121. Mono says:

LOL!! Bitch all u want people!! It’s been 2 years and Glee is more fabulous than EVAH!! LOL!! Also Lwa has improve so much :3!! Yolo~!!
