W Magazine has a brief interview with Jenna Jameson, widely considered the most successful porn star in the world. Jameson hasn’t done any adult films for about six years, and she explained to W that she stopped doing porn when she decided to have children. Jenna, 36, (according to Wikipedia. The W article has her age at 37) has twin 20 month-old boys with her partner, ultimate fighter Tito Ortiz. Here’s what she told W:
“I really don’t think I need to say, ‘Mommy was a porn star,’” Jenna Jameson says of explaining her former profession to Jesse and Journey, her twin boys with Ultimate Fighting Championship star Tito Ortiz. “I feel like they’re going to know me and think, Mommy loved us so much that she quit everything and made us her job. And that’s what I did. The moment I decided to have children, I quit. I won’t even do a Maxim cover,” says the 37-year-old, who was surprised to find herself a natural at breast-feeding, despite four implant operations—the last to have them removed. (“I thought: I’m getting rid of these things. I don’t need them anymore.”) Raised in Las Vegas, the daughter of a showgirl and a cop, Jameson sold her $30 million porn empire to Playboy in 2006 and now lives with Ortiz in Huntington Beach, California. “It’s a really beautiful family community. And here I’m not ‘Jenna Jameson’; I’m just one of the moms who walk a double stroller every day,” she says, noting that, after a career spent standing out, she wants nothing more than to blend in. “I’m a normal girl with all the same worries and insecurities. I just happen to have done porn.”

Jenna was on Oprah last year, and she made a lot of pronouncements about how she mostly made porn films with her then-husband, Jay Grdina, and how it was a misconception that she had “thousands or partners” and was “a slut” (her words). It just seemed like she was in denial about her past, which makes sense if she’s going to have to explain to her boys someday. She should come up with a good way to tell them about it so that they’re prepared when it comes up. They don’t need to know all the details but it shouldn’t come as a total shock to them either. All this stuff about how she gave it up and became a stay at home mom is wonderful and she is a rare success story, for what that means.
Jenna and Tito had a domestic dispute earlier this year, but seem to have since patched things up.

Jenna’s boys are adorable. I think she should enjoy her life and be happy with her family. I wouldn’t feel an insecurity in the world or worry what other people think, it to late for that.

I’ll never understand people who revel in a lifestyle that demeans and/or disregards the conventions of society over a long period of time only to find themselves longing for understanding that their behavior was some how just one of many phases in life. I much prefer the person who admits to enjoying the lifestyle and doesn’t feel the need to justify it to anyone. Her children will know every aspect of her life and if they choose to conform to social norms, it will affect them deeply. I realize people mature and look back on their youth with certain regrets but most often that occurs when they have reaped the benefits and grown bored with the routine.
Right, why doesn’t she join the PTA? With that plastic surgery porn face and those outfits and poses, she should be the President of the Junior League. She’s delusional.
I really like Jenna, she seems to be in a good place. Her boys are so cute. Its admirable to know that she isn’t just leaving her history in the past and has thought about how to properly explain the process to her kids.

Recently I read that Pamela Anderson was having some regrets about her nude spreads because her boys are teased about it relentlessly. How could she not have anticipated this?

She sounds delusional. I hope she comes to terms with the fact that she was in porn, and quite successful for it for a long time, before her kids get teased with it at school or something.
@Rita: Here, here. She should probably own the fact that that is part of her life. It is up to her how she deals with it but her kids are probably going to be bright enough to wonder what exactly it was that she gave up for them.
And they are boys, FFS. The likelihood that they won’t encounter some evidence of her being so famous for porn are pretty small.

I’m inclined to agree with you up to a certain point, but the truth of the matter is, Jenna Jameson is not an erudite, intellectual powerhouse who strategically decided by the strength of her own ideology to air on wrong side of social norms. Like many women who end up in her former line of work (porn, stripping, possibly prostitution), she comes from dysfunctional foundations only to travel this journey of loss and degradation because they are damaged, not because they are these conscious social experimenters. To do that successfully and not look back takes vision, awareness, self-mastery. It seems to me that Jameson is ust finally realizing what she never had: a stable home life. So, it seems quite reasonable that she wants to blend in as much as possible. That’s the only way that is becomes real. I have a friend who is like this. While not a porn star, she didn’t grow up with the best support system, and the bulk her of adult life has been in pursuit of this – the mate, the babies, owning a home.
So despite that her desire to leave behind her former life seems hypocritical, there’s a greater need that overrides it.

My point was not about hypocracy but rather a lack of foresight and caring for the consequences of her actions. Two qualities that so many people do not have.
I appreciate and agree with your comments. These dysfunctional cycles, whether they be physically abusive, substance abuse, mental abuse, welfare, or parental neglect are why strong family values are needed to break the cycle. Hopefully, her love for those two beautiful children will lead to a way off the merry-go-round for them.

I don’t like that very many people believe that someone who chose a less diserable career should be shunned forever and not have the chance to live the life they want.
I was always under the impression that Jenna Jameson had a big heart and that she just really wanted a family. She got into porn and took advantage of the opportunity to make a lot of money. It was a smart business plan and now she’s done with it.
I think its great that she wants to have stable home life and the ability to nurture her children in a healthy environment. I don’t think she’s denying that she did porn. It was just a different part of her life. She’s almost 40 years old. She grew up and moved on like any normal person would.
I do not believe in shunning people forever, either. She didn’t go murder 50 people, she was in porn. I think that’s yucky personally, BUT she wasn’t out hurting someone. I personally would avoid a (for instance) former heroin addict more than a former porn star.
However, society will tend to be harsh with her. It’s always harsh on women who are known for sexual things, much worse than on men who are. Other women (I think) feel threatened by it.
She better home school those boys, because high school will eat them alive. They will hear every “your mama” joke in the book, and imagine guys coming up to you and saying, “Dude, I was watching this old porn of your mom, and…”

Wow, she looks so different. There is a book called xxx 30 pornstar portraits by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders which shows hers her before all of that surgery and she is so beautiful.
