Golden Globe nominations: Jolie, Depp, Portman, Idris & The Hamm!

The Golden Globe nominations are out! The Hollywood Foreign Press douches split the announcement into two separate things, though, which is why this has taken so long. There were some surprises, but mostly everybody who you thought was going to be an awards contender is on the list. Here are some of the biggest surprises, in my opinion:

*ANGELINA JOLIE! She was nominated for Best Actress Comedy/Musical for The Tourist. SHOCKING. Of course, the HFP probably just wants some Jolie-Pitt action for ratings, but it’s still nice for the film that got hideous reviews, and it might boost the box office a bit. Oh, Depp got nominated for The Tourist too, and the film got a Comedy/Musical Best Picture nomination.

*Idris Elba got a nomination for Lead Actor in a TV Movie! There will be Hot Man Meat at the Globes! Between Idris and The Hamm, it’s going to be Hot Guy Globes (mm…man globes).

* There was a lot of love for Glee and Modern Family, but the actors who got singled out for the shows are very interesting. More on that in a second.

*Piper Perabo got a nomination?!? For that dumb CIA show. For real.

*Emma Stone got a nomination for Easy A! Yay for recognizing younger talents!

Very interesting, right? Re: Modern Family – why no Ed O’Neill? Why no WhatsHisFace Ginger? Weird. Also – no love for Lost’s final season. Good. It sucked.

Re: the film nominations – I’m just thrilled with the actors nominated, I really am. I think it’s a good group all around, and I’m even glad to see Michael Douglas included – at the expense of Justin Timberlake! HA. It’s good to see Andrew Garfield getting some love, and Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter. I’m a little surprised that Inception didn’t get any acting nominations – specifically, Leo. Weird.

hope la jolie and natilie will bring their bitchface for the awards… what no GOOP

  2. Marjalane says:

Oh no’s! Will Ryan Gosling take Boobs Lively to the Globes?! This will ruin my fun. hee-hee- happy Timberlake was shut out!

  3. Kaiser says:

Ha! No Goop. Jolie STOLE Goop’s Comedy/Musical nom!!!

  4. Lisa Turtle says:

LOL @ Burlesque being nominated for Best Musical or Comedy.

Seriously though, with all these categories it seems like the Golden Globes are more focused on including every celebrity under the sun, rather than rewarding the year’s best talent.

The actors and actresses of Mad Men are under-represented. Where is John Slattery (Roger Sterling)?

  5. LOVE ANGELINA says:

*Squeals* Ok I will agree the movie wasn’t that great, it was still very entertaining and romantic, the only thing I didn’t like was I thought the cops trailing her in the film were sloppy, but there was nothing wrong with Angelina’s performance. Angie was amazing. Angie was just stunning. 😀 I am like so shocked!!!! I swear to goodness I just read this on Twitter and I was like having a mini panic attack. OMG Yay!!!!!!!!! Like I wish you could see the look on my face.

OMG Congrats to Depp to. And everyone else. I am rooting for Nat Portman.

  6. BELLA says:

I don’t see any Jennifer Aniston nominations there … ?

  7. Alejandro says:

    No nom for Timberlake!

    JUSTICE!!!/ dina lohan

    Happy for Ryan and Michelle.

  8. jj says:

the comedy/musical section is a joke! and i love how they added halle for some “diversity”. it sucks that javier bardem didn’t get the nom that he deserved. the only reason angelina got nominated was because of name recognition which sucks. ugh these award shows are a joke

  9. BELLA says:

Congrats Idris and mah boo Ryan Gosling 🙂

  10. Eve says:

You’re kidding me? LOL! Man, I love Jolie and Depp and will watch anything they’re in but that trailer was a mess.

I’m thinking they want the ratings…or maybe that’s Sony’s last desperate move to boost The Tourist’s box office.

  11. Lisa S says:

Angelina Jolie was FUNNY in a movie? I will have to see it now. Congrats to Ryan Gosling and Tina Fey! Yah!

  12. poopie says:

i will personally handle the polishing of MY HAMM’s golden globe

  13. someone says:

I can’t believe that Jolie was nominated for that crapfest of a movie…

  14. flutters says:

The Tourist is a comedy/musical? Maybe unintentionally but…

(yes I know the studio chose where to submit the film)

Eh it’s the Golden Globes and star power usually helps with noms.

The nominations need more Modern Family but the consolidation of the dramas and comedies in the supporting actor/actress categories probably hurt the chances of Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Danny Boyle should’ve made Best Director for 127 Hours too.

@Lisa Turtle: I totally agree about the Mad Men underrepresentation especially John Slattery.

  15. Praise St. Angie! says:

“Seriously though, with all these categories it seems like the Golden Globes are more focused on including every celebrity under the sun, than rewarding the year’s best.”

yeah, that’s the impression I got, too. these noms are all over the place as far as quality of performance and talent goes. so much of it political…how often has there been an actor’s performance that every critic and viewer loves, and they get snubbed? same thing happens in reverse…you think “SHE/HE got a nom and so-and-so DIDN’T?!”

It’s about so much more than just a performance, in a lot of cases. Whatevs…congrats to the nominees!

  16. QQ says:

The Tourist!??!?!? That is almost like fellating those two for the sake of having big name stars

and wasn’t Temple Grandin like… almost two years ago?? with Claire Danes even being nominated?

WHat has Matthew Morrison done in Glee this year to deserve a nom??

  17. normades says:

    you know JT is pisssssed

  18. bros says:

all i know is christopher nolan deserves to win every category.

  19. Majosha says:

    Jennifer Lawrence was nominated! Hooray!

  20. Eve says:

    @ QQ:

The Tourist!??!?!? That is almost like fellating those two for the sake of having big name stars

Well…I’d looove to be the one fellating Depp.

    @ Kaiser:

Ha! No Goop. Jolie STOLE Goop’s Comedy/Musical nom!!!

Yeah! She’s an award stealer! WHAT. A. BITCH!

  21. anon says:

Congrats to The Tourist and its cast
    🙂

  22. KelBear says:

If I see that biotch Blake with Ryan on the red carpet I will go through my tv and rip her hair out. Just had to say it.

  23. Sigh. says:

They are pandering to ratings which have been on a rapid decline for years by including some of these noms. I will not point out which because I have no interest in being called a “jellis 8htr” or too dim to get the joke/satire/art of it all. Bad movies get nom’d for other technical categories (costume, cinematography, score, etc), and those were their strong points, not the acting, IMHO.

I’m not one of those who feels “robbed” when something/someone isn’t nom’ed. I usually pay little attention to these things other than the clothes round-up the next few nights, but this list is ridic.

HW needs to get their heads outta each others’ crotches as get back to making GOOD movies, not just money-makers.

  24. Po says:

I will say that I like the GG more than the Oscars but I find the nominations a little ridiculous. If you want to nominate celebrities just so we will watch then you could have stopped with Angelina Jolie. She’ll bring Brad and people will wait to see her on the red carpet and then probably watch the show. This is just a bit too much however they couldn’t nominate Justin Timberlake it would have been complete overkill.

  25. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Eve you can’t judge a movie on the trailer. You have to go see it. I do that to though, with seeing a movie based on the trailer or not seeing and then when the movie comes on TV I sometimes really like it. You should just wait until it comes on TV or something.

It wasn’t an action film thats for sure it was a light easy breezy romance film and it was funny in parts. I don’t really care about the movie so much. Angelina IN THE FILM was amazing and charming and beautiful. Angie was great. I am like grinning like a fool. Yay. I am soooo happy.

I am with Kelbear, Ryan better leave Blake at home.

  26. cherryberry says:

Only one nomination for winter’s bone? Really?

  27. The_Porscha says:

Idris Elba, Michael Douglas, Andrew Garfield, Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Julianne Margulies, Julia Stiles, Michael C. Hall… good for them. No comment on the rest of them.

[And yes, Lisa Turtle, LOL @ Burlesque being nominated. I think it’s because of Cher or Stanley Tucci, but I’ll admit it: I enjoyed the cheap, tawdry mess that was Burlesque. THOROUGHLY. From the drive-thru editing job to the priceless acting by Christina Aguilera to every queen’s dream in Cher. Has replaced Showgirls in my Kitschy Canon.]

  28. Jazz says:

Yay for Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Jacki Weaver. Also yay for David Fincher. Not for The Social Network, but just cause it’s Fincher. And woo hoo to no timberlake.

  29. Lisa Turtle says:

    @ QQ

Regarding Morrison, he doesn’t deserve it – but he’s on a popular show and the Globes are clearly trying to pull in some big ratings this year.

Glee is one of those shows… I enjoy it, but I think it’s ridiculous and campy… There is no great acting going on – no one is giving their best performance – save for Jane Lynch, but even Jane is going overboard this year.

  30. Solveig says:

Depp and Jolie both nominated for The Tourist (and in Depp’s case also for that crappy Alice in wonderland)? This comfirms my assuption that the golden globes and the oscars are just jokes.
Guess it’s an attempt to save The Tourist at the BO.
Put the prize where the money is (were).
    Ridiculous.

  31. Nanea says:

The GGs are a sham, and I have no idea why they are still relevant.

Everyone in H’wood and elsewhere in the business knows that the serious, real members of the foreign press are not members of the HFPA. These are a little more than 80 people, most of them not even speaking the language of the countries they represent, e.g. there are people listed as members for my home country who don’t even speak the language and those that are from *here* are writing for third-rate publications or have been rewarded with a membership because they used to be the “secretary” of the publisher…

  32. Tammy says:

These nominations just show how irrelevant the Golden Globes have become, they are based on popularity and wanting ratings.

  33. Eve says:

    @ LOVE ANGELINA:

I have said many times that I will watch The Tourist regardless the bad reviews! But it hasn’t opened in Brazil yet.

P.S.: You have to admit the trailer is confusing though.

  34. Lisa S says:

Most of these noms are so so awful. But it will be mad crazy on the red carpet. Moving on, ugghh. Michael K’s take at Dlisted says it all. Hilarious.

  35. munchies says:

at least i can expect Angie on Red carpet again. Will look forward on her hair, shoes, make up and of course her dress.. i hope she tag along Maddox than Brad.

  36. Lila says:

I LOVE how they nominated Idris Elba for being Idris Elba. Good call. LOL.

  37. sapphire says:

    Awww, Pippy was shut out!

I love the GGs-nowhere near as boring as Oscar. And the principal is like children’s parties:everybody gets to win something.

Minor rant- The Black Swan is in limited release because of the rating. WTF in a movie that has potentially award winning performances? And why the rating just because there’s female/female sex scene? Given that there’s more shown on network or HBO, I think the rating is stupid. And I am irritated that I am having so much trouble seeing it.In contrast, “Burlesque” and Xtina’s boobs are all over the place.

  38. Riley says:

Piper Perabo? In the words of the great entertainment “journalist,” Giuliana Rancic, “for realies?”

  39. teri says:

I’ve seen the Tourist, it’s nowhere near bad. It’s really cute, I enjoyed it! I’m not sure why someone even come’s here to comment, considering she hates Jolie and everything related to her. Angelina and Johnny Depp getting nominated just adds the sweetness for me. Isn’t Angelina walking the red carpet tonight?

  40. LittleDeadGirl says:

Inception and Christopher Nolan better win or I’m gonna cut a bitch I swear. Boardwalk Empire needs to win too and so does Idris Elba for Luther which was a messed up miniseries but soo good. I love Walking Dead and if it wins I’ll squeel but honestly the writing was way better on Boardwalk Empire.

The rest of the noms I could give a shit about. Or like The_Porscha said much classier .. no comment …

  41. Jazz says:

Wasn’t Alice In Wonderland over a year ago or am I just getting confuzzled? As For Boobs Lively, she’ll be hanging onto Ryan now just so her ass can get on the GG red carpet.

  42. Rachel says:

This is the biggest load of BS ever! The Tourist was awful and wasn’t a comedy, at least not on purpose. It has some of the worst reveiws this year. The Baster was even better and a hell of a lot funnier.

  43. carrie says:

OMG they nominated Christian Bale:what happened? they saw one of his movies finally(and i don’t talk about Terminator!)

the comedy category is cheap:”the kids are all right” deserves it ,”ease A” also (i don’t see but many people love this movie) but “the tourist”,”RED”..????

  44. Crash2GO2 says:

Only 6 posts in before someone starts dragging the triangle into this…? WTF. Give it a rest.

  45. Praise St. Angie! says:

I just realized that Treme got snubbed, completely.

Which is even more of an indication that these noms are a joke.

  46. teri says:

You mean they only nominated Angelina for ratings? The hags always say she has no friends, BWAHAHAHA.

  47. DD says:

Jolie for Best Actress in a COMEDY?
Wow color me confused. And just the other day I was posting that she would be dreadful in a comedy. Obviously I don’t know shit.

  48. fuer says:

The nomination of Angelina is a scam!

The Brangelina-Mafia has done a good job!

  49. mln76 says:

WOW I don’t know that she deserves a nomination but I think they are just desperate for some Pitt-Porn on the red carpet it will bring up the ratings.

  50. Cheyenne says:

WTF?! I thought Tourist was supposed to be some kind of romance/adventure movie. Maybe that was the film’s problem — it couldn’t make up it’s mind what kind of movie it is.

@Solveig — there must be a market for crappy movies somewhere. Alice In Wonderland has earned over $1 billion.

  51. lucy2 says:

A good 1/3 of these nominations are jokes. Too much good work snubbed for the sake of a popularity contest/ratings.

Kaiser, you dissed my beloved Lost! I’ll have to be faux-angry with you for about an hour or so now.

  52. jen says:

I hope Boardwalk Empire & Steve Buscemi win. Sorry, Hammheads.

  53. Mare says:

I’m starting to think I can’t see the difference between good and bad acting because I think Angelina is a terrible, terrible actress 🙁

  54. tara says:

Yay i have to confess ive never seen a gg awards show but i will watch this yr….im happy for angie and jdepp and i loved alice n wonderland!! My kids play that movie so much i have to hide it sometimes and charlie choc factory…i luv johnnys variety he can do it all comedy action drama everything just like my girl aj!!! I have not seen tourist yet im going this wknd and im excited about it regardless of critics review i dont follow i lead and johnny n angie havnt disappointed me and salt was awesome i had to hide that too from myself!! Hahaha TeamJolie TeamDepp xoxo

  55. mic says:

    Why Angelina Jolie?
This is a big mistake and the biggest fraud on the paying public.
I hope the case is under investigation.

  56. bite me says:

    haha, love it

  57. Persistent Cat says:

I guess the GGs are now like the Grammys.

  58. mln76 says:

@mic It’s not that serious it’s only an awards show.

  59. Cruisin Through says:

Interesting that Tourist is on there, when it’s an admitted crapfest by most of her own fans! There’s no doubt that the foreign press just wants to see them on the red carpet. Too funny!

Good for Jolie and Depp though. It will keep those bazillion dollar paychecks coming!

    Is Tourist considered a comedy?

  60. Rose says:

    Go Boardwalk Empire!

  61. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@Eve I am sorry. LOL You will like it. The trailer wasn’t confusing to me, I have seen a lot more confusing trailers.

LOL Also award people don’t nominate a film and its actors to boast the box office for a film. That makes no sense. Especially sense The Tourist is #2 at the box office, how much more of a boast could it need? LOL I think everyone should just be happy because to day is a very good day.

Also there is a difference between the ACTUAL movie and the performances done BY THE ACTOR. Alice In Wonderland wasn’t that greatest movie as a whole but JD was very good. The performances by the leads in The Tourist were also very good. Angie was sensational and seductive. I loved her in this. Her accent was flawless.

  62. Shelley says:

    JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT!!!!

  63. chance says:

The nomination von The Tourist is not normal … a comedy?
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    How much money was paid?

  64. Solveig says:

@Cheyenne, that’s exactly the reason why there are so many crappy movies hitting the cinemas. People aren’t asking and pretending quality, it’s a shame. At this point probably people don’t deserve good quality.

  65. Eve says:

    @ LOVE ANGELINA:

LOL Also award people don’t nominate a film and its actors to boast the box office for a film. That makes no sense.

It makes sense. And I said it could be a Sony’s move, not from the ones that nominated the film (these, in my opinion, are interested in high ratings).

Especially sense The Tourist is #2 at the box office, how much more of a boast could it need?

Well, I think it needs all the boosting it can get. Considering the expectations surrounding The Tourist, the movie bombed, there’s no other way to see this.

  66. nina says:

    halle berry? she sucks.

  67. nelsonn says:

    To Angelina:
I hope these counterfeit, is embarrassing for you.
You know that it is wrong.

  68. mooncake says:

yay for I Am Love! Tilda Swinton rocks in that movie!

  69. mln76 says:

The Tourist actually was a comedy it’s a romantic comedy (believe it or not) with a touch of thriller /mystery. It reminded me alot of Charade. And the scenery was beautiful. The problem was with the marketing and the pacing. It’s a light frothy movie I don’t think it was awards baiting at all, but this is in the Comedy/musical category and is more deserving than The Killers, or Sex and the City 2.

  70. Lisa S says:

I have too much time on my hands this vaca week. But I HAVE to write this. I am starting to think that Love Angelina IS Angelina Jolie. LOL So strange.

  71. Kim says:

Congrats Angie and Johnny Depp. L
Oved the movie and now I’ll watch GG’s

  72. lee says:

    @QQ

I was thinking the exact same thing about Temple Grandin. I distinctly remember Claire winning an award somewhere last awards season for that performance. And same with You Don’t Know Jack. I clearly don’t understand the time line of eligibility for these tv movies.

And seriously? Burlesque? That just seems so absurd it actually makes me happy.

  73. Cheyenne says:

@solveig: People pay for what they want to see. If they want to see crap, they’ll pay for it. “Avatar” was a gorgeous, stunningly beautiful movie with a crappy plot and dimwitted dialogue. “Titanic” was the most waterlogged piece of dreck I ever saw in my life. And that movie won 11 oscars, including best picture and best director. Go figure.

  74. Cheyenne says:

sapphire: The Black Swan is in limited release because of the rating… why the rating just because there’s female/female sex scene?
    =======================================

Female/female sex scenes don’t play in flyover country or the Bible belt. What would the Teabaggers say?

  75. mln76 says:

The only reason why The Tourist could be considered a failure was really Johnny & Angelina’s salary the opening was decent but they each got 20million for the movie and it didn’t pay off. If they had taken 5 mill each the movie would be a hit and I don’t think the critics would be so cruel.

  76. WhiteNoise says:

@Cheyenne – “Avatar” was a gorgeous, stunning beautiful movie with a crappy plot and dimwitted dialogue. “Titanic” was the most waterlogged piece of dreck I ever saw in my life.”

We may not agree on Jolie but a big ‘oh god yes’ to the above! 🙂

  77. Cheyenne says:

@WhiteNoise: I am sometimes at a total loss trying to figure out the critics’ choice of a great movie. I had to switch channels on “The English Patient” 40 minutes in. I was about to throw something at the TV and shout “Would ya hurry up and die already?!”

This nomination for Tourist, though, makes my day. The Jenhens were gloating all weekend about the movie bombing and no chemistry between the two leads and then it gets not one but two GG nominations for both actors. Whether or not they win (and they almost certainly won’t), I think it’s hilarious.

    TOTALLY AGREE

    Go Johnny Go!!!!

You are the best. Luv you! MUAH!

  80. Feebee says:

Obviously there are nominees that deserve to be there but on the whole disappointed with the GGs. They usually go with substance over style though in Jolie’s case neither was present this time so that’s inexcusable. What a mess.

Does the Golden Globe have any meaning whatsoever? The Tourist might be a joke or an accidental comedy but since when was this its intended category. Very strange.

  83. olivia says:

I heard The Tourist was a joke but I didn’t know it was supposed to be a comedy.

Ok, The Tourist is, according to I.M.D.B, a Action drama thriller film. And it was nominated as a comedy? Seriously?

  84. Jaxx says:

The Tourist is a comedy? I thought it was a drama. I had no idea it was a funny movie, the trailer looks so serious.

  85. Cyui says:

When you give you receive. It’s just the universe’s wink at both these people. I mean WOW…..wouldn’t have even thought. Go Angie …Johnny. I love the movie The Charade. That’s probably why they wanted to do it….Depp/Jolie.

Best Comedy Actress…take a guess why I love this …..

Yeah and thank God Avatar didn’t win best movie .
Fern Gully had a better plot and dialogue. Sigourney trying to say the Academy just wanted boobs and that’s why Hurt Locker got it Please.

Crappy plot. Only thing good about that movie was Zoe Saldana getting noticed and getting stuff like Calvin Klein.

  86. someone says:

Maybe they just want Jolie on the red carpet, to see what else Brad can grab!

  87. Rachel says:

I’m so happy Chris Colfer was nominated for Glee. He’s had a fantastic story arc this season, and I’m so glad that 1) Ryan Murphy has realized it’s not the Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele show, giving the other characters a chance to shine & 2) the other actors are being recognized for their talents. On a related note a double boo hiss to Lea Michele being nominated. I love Glee, but her character sucks a big old pair of hairy monkey balls. Everytime she speaks on the show I want to throw something at my TV.

  88. Narsa says:

Katy segal congradulations !!! It’s good to see her Recognized finally she has done a fanominal job on sons of anarchy the Clint east wood of mommas don’t mess with her or family well done to her and the cast!!

  89. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@Eve What does Sony have to do with the nomination process? Sony aren’t foreign journalists. Again this film wouldn’t be nominated just to boast anything. Its not up to anybody involved in the film. I am sure the studio is thrilled its nominated but they had nothing to with that.

Also Eve the movie didn’t bomb, only 2 movies opened this weekend, they both opened in the top 2, the overall ticket sales were down but still its good.

@Lisa S OMG I wish I was Angelina Jolie, well LIKE Angie, I like being me. I am sadly not 5’8. No where near as graceful, I am certainly not elegant or as knowledgeable as I would like to be about foreign affairs. I can only tolerate kids in small doses, which is why I use two kinds of birth control. I am nothing like Angie. I am gorgeous, yes, but nah I am not Angie.

  90. Cyui says:

Oh we didn’t know it was comedy but remember how they were going on about laughing with each other and Depp was going on about Angies sense of humor in interviews. It’s all on this site folks. Theyhad obscure marketing cause people would be like comedy from Jolie I want to see her jack somebody up. Plus they want her and Depp to get down and dirty. cause they are hot. I think that’s why they said no chemistry. Sorry just cause you’re getting it on doesn’t even mean you have chemistry. People and their dirty minds. Get yourself fixed all up and then find some hot piece to get it on with yourself. Stop trying live through others.

I have school stuff, but hearing how it’s like charade I can’t wait to see it.

  91. Cheyenne says:

@skibunny: I’ve been convinced the Oscars are a joke ever since Goldie Hawn won best supporting actress for Cactus Flower, never mind Titanic winning eleven awards including best picture and best director. It’s all a crock.

  92. Cheyenne says:

LOVE ANGELINA: I am sadly not 5′8.
    =======================================

From what I’ve heard, neither is Angie. She may be 5’8 in heels, but in ballet flats I think she’s more like 5’6. When she’s with Brad on the red carpet she’s wearing 4-inch stilettos and she’s still shorter than he is.

  93. Raven says:

Agree, Narsa. Segal has been phenomenal in SOA and deserves to win.

Studios obviously make strategic submission decisions for their films. The studio for the Tourist must have realized the field of comedy/musical films was weak this year. I haven’t seen the film, but none of the previews or discussion led me to believe it was a comedy.

  94. I Choose Me says:

Re: No nom for the cast of Inception. Fantastic movie but there wasn’t much character depth. As for Leo being shut out – I have the feeling that he won’t win any Oscars until its considered his time.

Jolie and Depp being nominated is no surprise (I haven’t seen the Tourist) as they bring the star wattage. It’s just Hollywood politics aka business as usual.

Me, I’m just hoping Christian takes home the gold, there and at the Oscars.

  95. grace says:

How come 127 hours only got 2 nominations??

  96. Camille says:

Oooh good line up of nominees there. I had a giggle that Jolie and Depp got nominated, good for them, bet that pisses the haters off lol. They won’t win though, so people should calm down 😆 .

  97. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

The only reason these two are nominated is because the field is so thin, number one, and number two for ratings. Let’s not cream our collective panties over them getting the noms-it’s not like they are really being recognized for a performance. Beside that, it wasn’t marketed as a comedy. The studio was clever submitting it as one knowing the field was super super thin. BURLESQUE was nominated this year. I think we can all say that this year was not a good year for comedy.

The Golden Globes are always fun to watch though. Someone always gets a little drunk or gets caught on camera doing something they didn’t think would be seen. And the fashion is great-the ladies are more relaxed than the Oscars.

JOY over the Hamm though. This season of Mad Men was deliciously juicy and his performances were amazing. And YAY for Black Swan. That movie is crazy.

It’s rated R by the way. How does an R rating keep it out of theaters? Or are some theaters refusing to show it?

  98. mln76 says:

Black Swan isn’t in limited release because of the rating. It’s common for Oscar bait to open in NY and LA to drum up interest and only open country wide once it’s gotten a following/ nominations. Some theaters will only show a movie like Black Swan if it has award noms.

  99. Crash2GO2 says:

“I had to switch channels on “The English Patient” 40 minutes in.”

That is one hell of a movie and deserved every accolade it received.

  100. Kim says:

WOW SLIM PICKINS this year obviously. This looks more like a Razzie awards list! Except for Black Swan and Kings Speech (which i predict will sweep – hopefully).

Amy Adams acting in the fighter was so painful-she should be nominated for worst accent ever! She can not act – how she gets nominated?? Who is she sleeping w or shes kissing someones butt big time.

  101. anon says:

@Camille: “They won’t win though, so people should calm down 😆 ”

True, but the posts would be much more entertaining if they did. We would get many essays. This should really be a college course; people could write long, long papers on how they really feel about the entire Brangelina business, good times 🙂

  102. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@Cheyenne I would take 5’6, lol I am 5’4 when not in heels.

@Hamm Give it a rest. Don’t spoil this glorious day with your theories (which are incorrect to, there is plenty of movies they could have filled those slots with, including Country Strong but I guess it wasn’t that good). The Hamm was nominated, enjoy it.

@anon Benning may win but I would love for Angie to win.

  103. Camille says:

@anon: Oh, so true! Good times indeed 😆

  104. Cheyenne says:

@Crash: Well I’m glad somebody liked it. Everybody I talked to who saw The English Patient hated it. The book was just as boring as the movie.

  105. Matt says:

Jennifer Love Hewitt for ‘The Client List’?!?!?!?!?! That should win the award for the ‘most unintentionally hilarious telemovie’.

SOOOO happy for Jacki Weaver, she was so good in Animal Kingdom- flying the Aussie flag 🙂

  106. Liana says:

Go Edie Falco and Nurse Jackie. I worked on that show for awhile. It’s based in Astoria, whoch is fairly close to home for me.

  107. Str8Shooter says:

@ Love Angelina: you must be REALLY bad at math or you’re just a die-hard Angeloonie!

How the HELL do you figure that the movie WASN’T a bomb…making $17M on opening weekend against a budget of over $100+marketing+prints…sorry, I work in the movie biz, and I know for a fact that grand total is at LEAST $150M, easily!

That gave me a good chuckle, though. Thanks!!!

  108. P.M. says:

    Katey Sagal better freaking win.

  109. redlips says:

    Wow!

    Bought and paid for…..

  110. REALIST says:

IMO, other than “The King’s Speech”, things look pretty bleak for the Oscars. Can you say sweep? (Except for Best Actress-Natalie Portman for “Black Swan?).
Hey, it’s all speculation. Never watch the GG’s-too busy, not pretentious enough. If you’re going to sit in front of the telly for hours and hours watching celebs walk back and forth and give speeches, might as well go First Class…

  111. Really says:

BOARDWALK Empire, man I love that show. Please win! STEVE B. must win!

  112. Crash2GO2 says:

“Everybody I talked to who saw The English Patient hated it. The book was just as boring as the movie.”

We must hang out in VERY different circles is all I can say. To each their own I suppose.

  113. Sunnyjyl says:

I have seen every episode of Covert Affairs. I love it, and I love Piper Perabo in it!!

  114. Crash2GO2 says:

Nurse Jackie is based on a woman I met a couple of years ago, who is a nurse that lives in NY (we share a common friend). She’s crazy needless to say…and a real psychiatric nurse.

  115. janne says:

Jolie should be embarrassed about this, it’s a completely undeserved nomination. The movie was crap and so was she…

  116. wifeyskarsgard says:

I’ll definitely will be watching this year 😉

  117. Lindsay says:

Kaiser hate to bust your bubble but Country Strong was submitted under the drama category so she and Angie were not in competition with one another (if the were she would have kicked Angie’s ass and Burlesque out of the running.) The Golden Globes want stars to show up, because like a few commenters admitted it makes people actually watch. Angie knows she didn’t deserve it and has no chance of winning and probably won’t show up unless she happens to be in LA for another reason.

  118. Aspie says:

No noms for For Colored Girls? sads

  119. lucy2 says:

I’m with you Crash, I LOVED the English Patient – the movie and the book. Everyone I know who saw it loved it too.

Very happy for Hamm for more award recognition – I was just listening to an interview with him talking about how he was trying to make it in the business for 10-15 years before Mad Men hit, and it amazes me that someone that talented and handsome took that long to break out.

  120. Eve says:

    @ LOVE ANGELINA:

The company that makes the film has everything to do with its nomination campaign, just take a look at what Harvey Weistein does for his films every year (in order to get nominations).

Anyway, I think the movie will make back its budget (with overseas box office and DVD sales/rent). But I’m sticking with my original thought: given the expectations surrounding it and having the two biggest Hollywood stars leading its cast, The Tourist is a bomb. Sorry.

  121. gloriaad says:

The haters are so shocked about Jolie’s nominaton for the Tourist they don’t know how to frame their hateful comments, on some sights they are now commenting on how she answered when she heard that she was nominated,or they just want star power at the show, Brad Pitt was nominated for Burn Before Reading in comedy a few years ago,and Gweneth Paltrow was not nominated she is star power, I saw the Tourist nothing wrong with it and the ballerina movie i will never see because it is full of too much darkness. In this economy I don’t need that so it is just who you are and what you are looking for at the movies. How ironic, Jolie’s worst picture is better than Jennifer Aniston’s best, JA acting have never been nominated for any major award!!

  122. anoneemouse says:

So sad that Breaking Bad was overlooked – best series on cable hands down! So GLAD that Justin T was not nominated–no need to make his fat head any bigger.

  123. Bek says:

Are you kidding me? Now I KNOW this is political. She’s embarassing as an actress!

  124. Bek says:

Here are some of my favorite reviews considering Jolie’s “Golden Globe” performance:

“..Jolie is in the running for the most annoying and insipid ice maiden in cinema history.”–Radio Times

“..plot holes and dull performances”–Frank Swietek

    “Jolie’s performance is smug…”–Reeling Reviews

“Everyone Gawp at Angelina! would have been a more appropriate title.”–Washington City Paper

“Jolie stars as a frozen aristocratic and Depp is miscast.”–Filmsinreview.com

“Boring, bland and self indulgent Vanity piece for Angelina Jolie.”–Eclipse Magazine.

“There’s not enough oxygen in any room for these two giant egos to share…”–Metro Times, Detroit, MI

“Jolie has never been more ludicrously Barbie-Doll.”–Thompson on Hollywood

“When not simply functioning as a sorry excuse for a thriller, The Tourist also operates as the Angelina Jolie Ego Trip Show.”–Slant Magazine

Sigh. Does anybody REALLY believe that she deserved that nom?

  125. anon says:

Sigh. Does anybody REALLY believe that she deserved that nom?

probably, odds are yes, somebody probably does? 🙂

  126. Sakyiwaa says:

    i think she deserved it.

  127. anon says:

@Sakyiwaa : well there you go, next question 🙂
