Alec Baldwin says Greg Garcia, creator of ‘My Name is Earl,’ is a Scientologist

Last week, we told you how Alec Baldwin was whining in a New York Times op-ed piece about NBC’s treatment of his hit show “30 Rock,” saying that the network has “wrung the last drops out of Scrubs and My Name is Earl,” shows which he called “done” and “cooked,” by giving them hour-long premieres, while his show, which he referred to as “the red headed stepchild” only gets 30 minutes. Greg Garcia, creator of “Earl,” then shot back by calling Baldwin an unlikeable, psychotic narcissist. Alec was quick to send out a response to Garcia’s claims, at the end of his recent Huffington Post blog about the McCain-Palin ticket.

PS: My apologies to the cast and crews of My Name Is Earl and Scrubs. In my frustration with NBC’s reprehensible promotion of 30 Rock, I took an unfortunate swipe at both of those shows and that was not cool.

But, for Earl’s creator, Greg Garcia, who referred to me as a “psychotic”, I have only one question. Why are you Scientologists always rendering these medical opinions you aren’t qualified to give?

[From Huffington Post]

Garcia didn’t waste any time responding to Baldwin’s words. In an interview with the web site Gawker, Garcia had this to say:

“Alec, I can’t tell you how happy I am to once again point out that you are an idiot. I’m unable to answer your question about Scientologists because, although I respect anyone’s right to their own beliefs, I am not currently nor have I ever been a Scientologist. Maybe you should have done some research that extended past the comments section of Defamer before you crafted your insult.

“If you choose to attack me again may I suggest something witty about me creating the show Yes Dear or just simply a joke about the fact that I’m bald. Both true.

“As far as you being psychotic, anyone who thinks NBC wouldn’t do everything they could to promote a great show like 30 Rock, which they own, over a show like My Name is Earl, which they don’t, is a tad nutty.

“Good luck with the Emmys and don’t forget to tune in for the one hour season premiere of My Name is Earl September 25th.”

[From Gawker.com]

Wow! These guys are just not going to let this go. I have a solution: a 30 Rock/My Name is Earl Cage Match! Two men enter, one man leaves. I can see Tina Fey going up against Jaime Pressly, Alec Baldwin grappling with Jason Lee, and Tracy Morgan throwing down against Ethan Suplee. The winning team gets an hour-long special on Thursday night on NBC. THAT would be a ratings hit, my friends.

    ZOMG XENU ON A ZEBRA!!!!

I totally called it on the other thread, that Balwin would strike back using The Xenu Attack. Alec Baldwin, are you reading Celebitchy?

    *happy dance*

  2. geronimo says:

Hee hee, Alec’s response is so much funnier than Garcia’s. Proof in my prejudiced book that Garcia is a sciento. Joining you in the ZOMG XENU ON A ZEBRA happy dance, kaiser!

I’m waiting for the hair pulling to start…

I love how *alleged or not* Scientologists use psychiatric terms when they decry psychiatry and compare it to Nazism. Miscavige can’t come up with some new descriptives like ‘Mengele Madness’ for Baldwin’s ‘psychosis’ or ‘SS Sadness’ for Brooke Sheild’s postpartum depression? I thought they had powers!

I wonder how many closet Scientolos there actually are in the industry (because of Tom Cruise too, I bet)but I’m sure there are quite a few…it’s really insidious. Out them where and whenever possible.

  4. Scott F. says:

In related (fantastic!) news: “PARIS (Reuters) – A French judge has ordered two departments and seven prominent members of the Church of Scientology in France to stand trial on charges of organized fraud, a judicial source said on Monday.”

Lets all take a moment to step back and give the French a rare set of American props for calling a spade a spade. That being said though, is there any proof this guy is a Scientologist other than the fact he works with a prominent one? Cause I gotta say, while I applaud criticizing actual Scientologists, it’s a little disquieting to see an aura of McCarthyism slipping in. Lets not start just randomly accusing people who piss us off of being Xenu-fodder.

  5. geronimo says:

Scott, this head boy lecturing is so old. I wasn’t being entirely serious here – thought it would be obvious to most – although Garcia’s response IS protesting too much, in my opinion.

And btw: Your ‘Lets all take a moment to step back and give the French a rare set of American props for calling a spade a spade’ implies that you usually have a problem giving France props for anything and you therefore choose to assume that all American’s share your difficulty?! How very patronising to other Americans.

    *resumes happy dance*

  6. Kaiser says:

    ZOMG MCCARTHYISM. 😆

Greg Garcia *actually* does not piss me off, and I have no idea what his religion, real or imaginary, is.

But Jason Lee is a XOAZ, and that’s how I thought Baldwin would counter-attack, through Lee and the taint of Scientology that stains everything it touches.

I’m just enjoying the joint hissy-fit.

Edit: Geronimo, yep. I concur. *applause*

    Ya burnt.

  8. vdantev says:

Like I needed another excuse to never watch that steaming turd of a show.

  9. Lola says:

I am on team Alec via ‘you little pig’ even though I don’t condone his rant but I may jump off if he starts being a bigot.

That said, one word: Grow up 🙄

  10. vdantev says:

Everyone say hello to Clam Lola.

    “Hi, Clam Lola”

  11. ri23 says:

I only have one thing to say to Alec Baldwin: Will you marry me?

  12. tova says:

the star of earl is a scientologist.
    so sad

  13. hello says:

Wouldn’t be surprised if he as a scientologists…they’re all starting to guest start on MNIE.

And NBC doesn’t really promoted 30 Rock very well. You see a lot more ads for Earl, which I personally hate as a program.

And Alec Baldwin was funny. If he’s such a narcissist, why was he complaining on behalf of the whole show, not just himself?

  14. hello says:

wow…I can’t edit and I have phenomenal grammar. sorry people!

  15. Shane says:

Go Greg! Your keen wit is stomping Alec’s ass. Carry on.

  16. Shay says:

Alec lost about 5 points for being wrong (if he is I don’t know if the guy is in CO$s or not). But I have to give him 10 points for having the balls to go after someone he thought was in CO$ by attacking it.

  17. piedlourde says:

I’m sorry to say there are more Scientologists on the cast of My Name is Earl:

    – Ethan Suplee (Randy)
    – Giovanni Ribisi (Ralph)
    – Juliette Lewis (guest starred as Jesse in the season one episode “The Bounty Hunter”)

  18. geronimo says:

Exactly, piedlourde. Every reason to suspect that Garcia is, at the very least, sciento-friendly, which, in my book, is more than enough to be wary of.

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
