Angelina Jolie: Coming soon to a theatre near you (trailer)

The trailer for Changeling, the new movie from Clint Eastwood and starring Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, is out and what has sounded like a drag-along, boring premise for a movie to me for the last few uber-hyped months actually looks really good.

Jolie plays Christine Collins, the mother of a kidnapped child in 1920′s Los Angeles. The movie is based on actual events and tells the story of the corruption in the Los Angeles Police Department and the treatment one mother was subjected to when she tried to stand up and ask questions.

John Malkovich plays Reverend Briegleb, who helped Collins when it looks like no one else would. Malkovich can be somewhat of a one note actor, but it’s a good note, so he’s always enjoyable to watch. He sure has gotten in good with the Jolie-Pitts this year, too, starring with both of them in highly anticipated movies. I expect child #7 to be named Malkovix, in his honor, and keeping with the whole X thing they have going.

Also starring is that hot guy from Burn Notice on USA, Jeffrey Donovan, as the LA Police Department baddie.  Mmm, he plays bad so good!

Angelina Jolie once again finds herself in a role that places her in a mental institution, and some might say they’re the roles that suit her best. But lets not forget what happened Oscar night the last time she delved into such a role; a statuette and more than anyone needed to see about her familial relationships.  The possibilities are endless for what this role, this year, could bring us!

Changeling hits theatres on October 24th.

Fifth to post… so disappointed — I’m used to being the “first to post” on these threads

This movie actually DOES look interesting – although I’m a bit dubious because I held the same opinion Ceilideh has held for the last few months. We’ll see how it turns out.

If nothing else, I’ll rent the movie just to see Jeffrey Donovan – he’s one of my new favorite actors and I’ll watch anything he’s in.

RAN, and here I thought you were NEVER among the first to post on a Jolie-Pitt thread, stupid me. What are you fifth? Well that explains it. Who is the idiot now?

    You people amaze me.

  7. pamela says:

And by the way RAN the “hypocrite”, I have no need to post under multiple names, because (1) I dont spend most of my days here like you, and (2) I make no apologies for my opinion about Aniston. You need to stop acting juvenile. If you cant play in the sandbox, then you need to leave. Insulting other posters because of their opinions is the definition of juvenile.

Oh, I am responding to your asinine post from the OTHER JP thread, because somehow I knew i would find you here posting. Coincidence? I think not.

Now you can go on frothing at the mouth to your heart’s content, I will be at work.

anony, I should have explained, and I apologise. I am responding to a post that RAN responded to on a previous JP thread. But knowing I would find her here(surprise, surprise), i chose to respond here.

Hope I have cleared up the confusion.

Now, I am off to work.

Angelina jolie is such a crappy actress. Love everything about this concept except for her. Just look at her expression in the still shot. She is so over rated… yikes!

I can’t wait to see this movie – it looks like a good one for costume porn.

***And for the record (to our new moderators), it’s been relatively peaceful on here for about a week until the Anistonloonies decided that their heroine needed another Pity Party (see Aniston/Butler thread), and started bringing her and Jolie up on threads about other people (Liv Tyler & Sienna Miller threads).

Not a fan of Jolie and so will skip this movie. I have never watched a whole movie with her in it, even before she started running of with married men. I guess there is not actor/ director I love that much to torture myself for an hour. Most clips I watch or trailers, she comes off as over acting. This one is not different.

The trailer is not half bad were she not trying too hard. She is not coming off natural here as usual. In any case, the movie has ‘box office dud’ written all over it. So does burn after reading.

I think it looks like a great movie. I think will be hard to watch as a mother, something like this is unthinkable. Don’t forget, it is based on a true story. the Wineville Chicken Murders…

  15. OH duh says:

Wow a movie critic as if they know what acting is? Oh yeah the only acting they think is natural is the one that only requires shaking the head, lifting an eyebrow and an excessive amount of hand flaterring yeah and we know who it is. That for them is natural acting .. NOT! And they think the dog movie and “Mismanagement” will be a smash hit..bwahahahahah!!! delusional!!!

wow. RAN/ pamela; it’s probably not healthy to invest this much emotion into the whole brangelina/aniston thing. They’re actors. Use their movies for an escape from the real world for a few hours and when the credits roll, move on. I get that its easy to get offended when your personal beliefs and opinions are challenged or attacked, but its just gossip, its supposed to be mindless entertainment. Ease up.

So, um, yeah, I know Pamela is “off to work”, but I’m still gonna say…

Maybe you, Pamela, should read more of celebitchy than JUST the Jolie/Pitt/Aniston threads. Then you’d know RAN posts on MOST stories… it’s what those of us who care about more in this world than those three DO. :P

Anyway, , I’m scheduling and budgeting NOW (you have to these days with movie ticket prices, lol) to venture out into the hell that is the theater going experience to see this movie! I thought Jolie looked excellent in the part and the trailer has peaked my interest in the story, too.

Malkovix :-) , Ceilidh I was thinking more along the lines of Jax, short for John.

The plot sounds interesting and spooky, like the title, I’m in.

Stuff it Lola. An informed decision based on a short clip…..get over it.

Tomorrow night I going to the movies to see “Burn After Reading”. Looks like fun and lots of laughs.

I’m definitely going to see “The Changling”. My hubby and I are HUGE Angelina fans and this woman can put her heart and soul in a role. She’s an actress who can act. Plus it’s an Eastwood film and J. Malkovich, well, great ingredients for a great film.

kaiser – just for the record i’m not an anistonloonie. i don’t even like her – she went to my HS and all her drama teachers are reportedly disappointed in her acting skills.
i was making what i thought was a legitimate comment about sienna miller when suddenly a bunch of people jumped all over me telling me to get a grip and such.

  24. Mairead says:

oooh this film looks good! While Angie might not be Julianne Moore or Cate Blanchette, she is a decent actress – I particularly liked her in Playing by Heart (quite old at this stage, big ensemble thing with Sean Connery, Ellen Burstyn, Ryan Philippe and Gillian Anderson – and my favourite character, a really p*ssed-off looking one-eyed cat :D )

RAN – Jaysis girl, yez’re slipping! Now get yer finger out and get back to spewing forth your Antilinaishness at the top of every thread. Betch!!

(I am of course joking – Ran and I are one different sides of the Brangeloonie fence, but I don’t ever remember her making up illogical nonsense about Angie or Brad)

I will so see this movie. It’s nice to see a MOVIE> I mean I’m tired of the mindless junk. It’s fine for the summer, but I love September to November. More quality movies. I saw Burn After Reading today. I loved it. I went right after work. Caught the 2nd show. Brad and everyone was terrific. It was pure Coens. Many twist and some unexpected turns. I won’t give it away. It felt like a weird bedtime story. I don’t know.. but that is how I felt. LOVE IT>

  30. mogoo says:

Now that looks bad. I mean “good acting” is a phrase that does not come to mind. She has never been a good actress. Girl Interrupted was NOT acting. Clint has a morbid fascination with kidnapped children. Just because you are a fan of someone does not mean they can act.I tried to look at the clip with an open mind. It was painful to watch. And more painful to read comments praising it. She is a very b[mediocre actress at best. But then again so are most actresses popular today.

  31. geronimo says:

Poor you, mogoo. All that suffering.

I liked what I saw from the clip, and Eastwood and Malkovich’s involvement already make it interesting. Call me picky but I prefer to see my films first before I make half-baked judgements about them.

And totally with you, kaiser, on the costume porn. If it all falls flat, there’s still the hats and frocks and shoes to drool over.

  32. Kaiser says:

Forget my love of La Jolie, I’m totally going for MALKOVICH.

@Geronimo – Right? I love 1920s costumes. I want the camel-colored coat and the sky-blue blouse Angie’s wearing in the trailer.

Sidenote: Have you noticed how Malkovich is *always* in costume porn movies? Methinks he’s quite the dandy.

He’s so made for it though, isn’t he? Always convincing. Terribly dangerously sexy.

    magoo… I know,you’re not including “our” Cate in that line-up :o

Sorry Kaiser, I missed your “costume porn” comment earlier  Absolutely perfect term – it suits it to a “T”; the styling and attention to detail even in the bits we see in the trailer looks amazing. It doesn’t look like it’s being filmed in digital to me either – or they’re doing something to really make the textures stand out – I mean, I just want to stroke the velvet on the sofa behind Angie.

I love Deco styling and materials too – seeing chrome, Vitrolite and Bakelite (like the phone she’s holding) on a building just makes me smile and want to hug it

edit: Oh and Kaiser….. slut!!

  36. Kaiser says:

@Mairead – Yep. Eastwood’s attention to detail, and the production teams he works with are incredible. You know what the costumes/sets/acting suggests to me? LA Confidential, one of my favorite movies. Different era, true, but it gives off a similar production vibe.

Edit: SLUT? lol… But, hey, considering Gerry Butler is dead to me, I have to fantasize about somebody… Malkovich and Jolie are fine replacements. Slut.

:D Boo. Was settling in for a ZOMG SLUT FIGHT.

Yeah, period pieces when they get it right are so atmospheric. But re Malkovich, for me it’s his VOICE most of all. Man just lulls me into a speechless state of submission. Don’t even care what he’s saying half the time, he opens his mouth and I’m *there*.

  40. Kaiser says:

    *shrug*

Shockingly, perhaps it’s just every individual’s perception. I think Jolie is one the best actresses working today – she’s been crap in a few roles (Life or Something Like It), but she’s made more films that I enjoy than most actresses. Often, for me, she’s the best part of an otherwise mediocre film (Bone Collector, Pushing Tin, Taking Lives).

For me, I think the $hittiest actresses working today are: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel. Their horrible acting has destroyed too many films.
