Gwen Stefani designing uniforms for W Hotel bar staff

Gwen Stefani is one of the few celebrities out there who hasn’t just slapped her name on a brand of clothing and claimed credit for it. First off, Stefani is actually an integral part of the designing of the clothes for her well-respected L.A.M.B. fashion line. And second of all – she obviously didn’t name it after herself. Paris Hilton, you hear that?

L.A.M.B. is branching out, according to Women’s Wear Daily. The uber-trendy clothing line is going to design the uniforms for W Hotel’s female bar staff.

Gwen Stefani is adding a new initial to her L.A.M.B. empire. The smokin’ songstress has hooked up with W Hotels to design uniforms for the posh chain’s female bar staff.

Ladies toiling away in the hotels’ Living Room lounges across the country will suit up in L.A.M.B.’s wash-and-wear black jersey minidresses—with diagonal stitch detailing and a fitted, ’80s-chic vibe—starting in December or early next year, per WWD.com.

“I wanted to design a super cute dress that I would be excited to have in my own closet and approached it in the same way I think about my clothing for a tour,” Stefani said.

“We’ve designed a sexy and comfortable outfit for these women to wear out on their own stage every night.” Stefani’s style aesthetic should go smashingly with the Michael Kors-designed separates sported by other W Hotel employees.

[From E! News]

People has copies of the sketches of the dresses. They look good, but like they’re not very forgiving. Though I’m guessing the help at the W lounges probably serve as eye candy anyway, so they can probably already pull it off.

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has designed uniforms, in case you’re sitting there scratching your head. Katherine Heigl designed a line of scrubs for Peaches Uniforms creatively called the “Katherine Heigl Collection.” I don’t think they’re big promotional push of trendy scrubs (i.e. slightly less ugly than before) worked well – they’re not listed on the brand’s website anymore.

Something tells me Katherine had a lot less to do with scrub designs than Gwen and L.A.M.B. did with the W’s dresses. They definitely look very hip, but like they’re not quite basic enough to last as long as you might want your employee’s uniforms to go. The 80s look is big right now, but they could look pretty dated within a year. But that probably just means more work for Gwen.

Here’s Gwen going to a doctor’s appointment at Cedars Sinai on September 4th. Images thanks to Fame.

  1. Actually I think you are wrong about Heigl’s scrubs. They are actually selling very well and are in their 3rd season - http://www.katherineheiglcollection.com

  2. Wow, she looks great after just giving birth. She really knows how to wear cloths well.

  3. Right, because Gwen has her finger on the pulse of what the wage-slaves need to wear at work.

They’re a little short for women bartenders bending down and pulling beers out of the counter fridges without not having to hike your dress down.

Overall though, really uninspiring. Two ‘yawns’ up.

  4. “80s chic” is a contradiction. Blech.

  5. Give Gwen a cookie, pat her on the head, re-direct her narrow ass to the recording studio, and nail the door shut until she cuts another album. My sister used to dress up dolls all the time too, but she didn’t get a career out of it.

  6. @ Kaiser: Right on - the only 80’s chic appeared on Duran Duran’s ‘Rio’ album cover. Other than that, I mean really, how much red-purple combinations is a body supposed to stand? Oh, and Bowie. He looked fabulous no matter what he did with himself or what the decade :D

  8. @AC, now this is just good-natured kidding okay, but that’s like saying you wished you applied at Wal-Mart because you like the smock.

  9. ^^
Hey if I was applying at a mall food court I would purposely skip “Hot Dog on a Stick” b/c of the uniforms.

When I work at Nordstrom occasionally I try to work in T.B.D. b/c they get to wear jeans!

So anyhoo, if I were a bartender what I had to wear would factor in to wear I applied!

    (I know you were joking!)
