Chris Brown apologizes: “I just wanted to release the anger that I had inside me”

wenn3261424

Yesterday, Chris Brown made an appearance on BET’s 106 & Park, and he “apologized” for his violent freakout on GMA Tuesday morning. Chris actually went into detail about the incident, not just giving a standard-issue apology. But, like with so much about Chris, his explanation and justifications only make the situation worse. This boy is a disaster, and he obviously surrounds himself with some of the worst public relations people in the world. Here’s what he said and we’ll talk about it afterwards:

Chris Brown “apologized to anyone he startled” after he presumably broke a window ABC’s New York City studios following Tuesday’s Good Morning America appearance, in which he was agitated after ABC’s Robin Roberts questioned him about the brutal beating he laid on his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

The Forever singer, appearing on BET’s 106 & Park on Wednesday, said he “had to blow off steam and let out the anger” after the appearance, in which he wanted to promote his new album F.A.M.E. — and not dwell on past events.

“First of all, I just wanna apologize to anybody who was startled in the office, anybody who was offended or really disappointed in my actions, because I was disappointed with the way I acted,” Brown said Wednesday. “A lot of people don’t know what went down, and obviously when I do shows or when I do interviews, we always send out a talking point sheet. As the interview proceeded, it was kinda thrown off. I was thrown off by it. I felt like they told us this just so they could get us on the show so they can exploit me. So I took it very, very hard and I really kinda kept my composure throughout the whole interview, although you can see me upset, I kept my composure, I did my performance.”

Brown continued, “And when I got back [stage] I just let off steam. I didn’t physically hurt anyone, I didn’t try to hurt anyone, I just wanted to release the anger that I had inside me because I felt that I worked so hard for this music and I felt like people kept just trying to take it away from me. So yes, I got very emotional, and I wanna apologize for acting like that.”

The 21-year old singer also implored his fans not to send any negative messages to Roberts, saying, “Do not send any threats, anything like that, I’ve been hearing things on Twitter — we need to take a stand and focus on the more positive things in life.”

[From Radar]

First: he was “thrown off” because he was asked questions that his people and GMA producers had agreed on beforehand. Ridiculous. And even if Chris didn’t technically and explicitly know that he was going to be asked about the Rihanna incident, it doesn’t bode well if this is how he acts when something doesn’t go his way. He throws a violent hissy fit, a tantrum in which there is destruction of property. AT BEST.

Second: “I just wanted to release the anger that I had inside me because I felt that I worked so hard for this music and I felt like people kept just trying to take it away from me.” What’s really scary is that I believe that Chris is being 100% honest right here. This is his mindset – these are the thoughts that go through his head, these are the justifications he gives himself. He gets angry and smashes something, and we should forgive him because he didn’t hurt anyone THIS TIME. And we shouldn’t bring up the Rihanna beating ever again because it’s obvious that he’s dealt with his anger issues properly, right? Because Chris knows that when someone isn’t focusing on what he wants them to focus on – THE MUSIC – he smashes things. Like windows. Like faces. And we should forgive him because he that’s just how he “releases” his anger. It’s his process.

Also part of his process? Celebrating his great week by grinding on a stripper at his record release party. Ugh.

In case you’re feeling sick to your stomach after this story, I suggest you go here to Videogum and read their excellent open letter to ABC News/GMA. They take ABC to task for not pressing charges against Chris and for “indulging and encouraging” Chris’s behavior. It’s a great read.

Really he is the biggest douche. What happen to that anger management certificate. What really gets me is that in the post interview where he apologizes (if you can call it that) the hostess (if shes a reporter shes lame) asked him if he was ok. Just another want to be thug who needs to get off the earth

  2. lucy2 says:

So I guess we should applaud him because THIS TIME his violent angry outburst didn’t result in a woman bloody and unconscious? How utterly disgusting.

  3. REALIST says:

That’s an apology? This man still has anger issues and maturity issues. He really does seem like an overgrown adolescent (which arguably, he may still be-brain development of some teens can go up to the 20’s) who never had any guidance as to what to do with his angry feelings.
Good to see he’s playing hoops-run, run, run out that anger, don’t intentionally foul anyone, and try to funnel that energy in a constructive way.
I hope he has a decent therapist. I hope he has a therapist, period.

  4. Suzy says:

He needed to get rid of his anger? Good thing there wasn’t a woman there or he might’ve gotten his anger out on her instead of a chair!
This guy makes me sick. He can barely speak properly. He makes excuses for himself over and over …”no one knows what went down”…please. Are you a child? Maybe if he was intelligent enough to be able to speak a proper sentence he wouldn’t get so angry in interviews. Plus I heard they asked ahead of time if they could ask about Rhianna and he agreed. He just does not get what taking responsibility means. He’s a liar and a doucebag. I wish he’d just go away. I don’t understand these women who are still so “in love” with him. Ewwww

  5. memory27 says:

He is disgusting I cant stand him so he thinks because he released his anger on a chair is better there is something wrong with him and he need anger managment asap.

  6. Macey says:

He really needs to learn when to just STFU!

  7. Roma says:

I think I’m still in moderating for dropping the f-bomb directed at Chris earlier this week but I stand by it.

People get angry or feel overlooked all the time. Most people don’t pick up a chair and smash a window.

I completely feel that ABC should have pressed charges.

  8. Anti-icon says:

Um Chris Brown, isn’t that what you were supposed to have learned in that court-ordered punishment you “graduated” from……

Elementary aged children have learned better “coping” skills than you displayed.

Here’s a tip — get a little squeeze ball, but it in your pocket, and when someone doesn’t kiss your ass the way you require, instead of picking up a chair and hurling it through the solid glass of a high rise building, squeeze the little ball.

    Meditation and humility also work.

    Prick.

  9. guesty says:

    Good for Videogum.

  10. the original bellaluna says:

I bet he wanted to “release the anger” the night of his argument with Rihanna; we all know how well that turned out.

THROWING PUNCHES & CHAIRS IS NOT AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO RELEASE ANGER. Go for a run; punch an actual punching bag; play ball (without the paps); or, you know, just “focus on your music,” like you want everyone else to do.

Get thee to the “special” anger management classes, because whatever you did last time didn’t “take.”

  11. Rita says:

“If you’d all just put me on a pedestal, make my album double platinum, let me bone any woman, provide me and my friends with free crack, comp my tatoos and meals, and give me my own reality show you’d see I can put down some mean Kazoo with the best of the bitches….life is so hard for me.”

  12. sapphire says:

God, I saw that picture on TMZ. I hope that stripper got paid a huge amount of money for having to touch that piece of toxic waste.

  13. Skins says:

When is this tool going to realize that the Rihanna thing is the main thing that he is known for? I follow music fairly closely and I had never even heard of him before that. It is not like he is putting out all sorts of hit records or anything. Thought I would check out some of his music the other night so I looked at some of his videos on demand, and all I saw was some Michael Jackson wannabe jumping around with all of these ridiculous dance moves that could barely be called dancing. And for some reason he is getting all of these chances lately, SNL, GMA, etc… The Rihanna thing is your claim to fame tool, either talk about it or go away

  14. the original bellaluna says:

    And a boat-neck tattoo? Really?

  15. insidescoop says:

what a jerk! man he just doesn’t get it….

  16. someone says:

yeah right!!!!! I always throw items thru windows when I want to get my anger out!!!!

  17. Isabel says:

I’m pretty sure they don’t teach destruction of public or private property as an appropriate outlet in anger management therapy.

In his mind, everything he does is justified, he is entitled to wealth and success and adoration, and nothing he does or doesn’t do should change that. He’ll happily accept praise as a response to what he does, but a differing opinion is unacceptable.

What an intolerable piece of shit.

  18. kmn says:

It really, really bothers me that the media is going so easy on him. First ABC refusing to call the police and press charges, then that article in People Magazine, and now this. How did this become a situation where Chris is getting his hand held rather than being called out for the total raging (insert favorite word here) that he is?!

And PS if this situation makes you sick (as it does for me) then I’d suggest you avoid reading all the tweets from Chris’ supporters on Twitter…it’s ridiculously infuriating and depressing that people can be so ignorant, saying Rihanna “provoked” him or “deserved it” or “just let him focus on his music.” There is an overwhelming number of apathetic/Team Chris tweeters…I don’t know how people can even THINK that way…

  19. TXCinderella says:

“people kept just trying to take it away from me”. This says it all. He still just doesn’t get it. In his mind we are supposed to excuse his beat-downs and temper tantrums because his music is so good that it should overshadow the fact that he has a serious anger problem. Sorry douche, we are not going to forget that you severely beat up a woman.

  20. silken_floss says:

BARF @ that pic of him and the stripper. I can smell them from here

  21. Sassy says:

Congrats for not punching a person, I guess? Jesus. What a f*cking pig he is. Why do people STILL LIKE HIM? Ugh.

  22. ordinarygirl86 says:

I was just reading on a website that when Brown stormed off to his dressing room that he was heard screaming and cursing at the top of his lungs and was calling Robin “a black bitch” for questioning him!

I don’t know what to say other than that he is out of control and he WILL beat another woman and have violent outbursts again. He has yet to undergo serious therapy or anger management aside from the slackass probation standards he already met! I’m scared that if he doesn’t get some kind of help for his anger he’s going to fly off the handle kill somebody (Some may think I’m dramatic but it’s obvious that he ACTS first and then THINKS about the consequence later- see Rihanna’s face post beating or the interview where he looks like he’s going to launch off the chair at Robin)

I do not support this asshole in any endeavor and that includes any show he performs, song he sings, movie he’s in, etc. And before anybody cries to the heavens talking about double standards concerning Charlie Sheen or Mel Gibson- Well I don’t support those pricks either! None of them think they’ve done anything wrong and it pisses me off that they have vast amounts of $$$$ to at least ATTEMPT to get themselves help and DON’T

  23. albeli says:

    Pathetic excuse for an “apology.”

  24. Saskia says:

There are plenty of people who react to situations they don’t like by stomping their wee feet, screaming at the top of their lungs, breaking things that don’t belong to them, tearing off their shirts and running around outside because they can’t handle everyday life. Those people are TODDLERS and they weigh like 25 pounds so they can’t really hurt anyone but themselves and the stuff they break is usually plastic and has Spongebob painted on it.

Anyone over the age of six who acts like that is an unholy brat who should be sent to military school, and anyone over the age of 12 who acts like that is either a sociopath or an addict coming down off a high.

  25. ordinarygirl86 says:

    @ KMN

I was on Twitter the other day (I rarely get on) to see what the public reaction was to what he did and I was disgusted by the amount of young women and teenagers condoning and even supporting his behavior! Not to mention the fact that Roberts has been inundated with hateful responses to her interview from these fans.

  26. Flotus says:

No, he is a pathetic excuse for a human being! Get over yourself, Chris! You are not entitled to a damn thing…

  27. Quest says:

Bitch please…. I have anger management issues and you don’t see me releasing any anger on your ass Mr. Chris “the idiot” Brown

  28. heather says:

Shame on you GMA. Inviting him back!? This is why I watch the Today Show.

  29. kmn says:

@Ordinarygirl86 On Twitter that sort of response seemed to be the majority…I wasn’t seeing a lot of people responding negatively (as they should) so it was disheartening. I literally saw stuff like “Everybody’s just trying to bring Chris down” and a few young girls tweeting about how HOT it was that chris broke a window…they though it was sexy/manly apparently.

  30. the original bellaluna says:

    @ ordinarygirl86 (and KMN)

Those young women and teenagers (Twitiots, I call them) who defending his behaviour have obviously never been abused by someone who is supposed to love them. As an abuse survivor, I hope they never are.

  31. dancingnancie says:

funny, that sentence usually ends in “…on a womans’ face.”

  32. CoffeeTalk says:

People WOULD focus on his music if this jagweed would stop throwing chairs and people around.

If he would stop behaving like a complete toolbox, actually GET something out of anger management, and behave like he was actually sorry that he nearly KILLED someone then maybe people would be more inclined to listen.

  33. nikki says:

His smile is super creepy in that pic with the stripper. Also, how awkward to have a girl grinding on your dick with a bunch of guys huddled up behind/beside you trying to get a peek. Some boys are grose.

  34. Tia C says:

Man, this guy needs an IQ infusion, STAT! He could not be more stupid.

If ABC really is not pressing any charges against him for malicious destruction or anything, I hope that at the least they will send him a nice fat bill for the property damage.

  35. Whatever says:

He really is the biggest douche. I actually believe that he or maybe his people did ok a few Rihanna questions. Sorry, but to me Robin has more credibility than him. But that’s not even the damn point! Who cares if he was ‘thrown off’??? People get caught off guard all the time. It’s how you react that shows the true character of the person and he sure showed his true colors. He’s learned nothing and not grown a damn inch and now everyone knows it. And yeah, he will be asked about this, so he better get used to it. If he had an ounce of sense, he’d sit with his manager and dream up a good line to use when it comes up. He has lost ground with me with his so called apology.

  36. cindy says:

Want to get rid of him. Boycott all of his music or anything affiliated with him. Take his ability to hire lawyers that bail him out away. Once they cant afford anything they lose their women, friends, personal belongings and cant pay to stay out of jail. Then a judge will treat him just like he would treat one of us. Criminal damage to property with intent, disorderly conduct, I could think of so many charges and with his record I’m hoping for a three strikes and you out.

  37. xxodettexx says:

glad to see no apologists for this abuser on here

and for his “fans” that “agree” with CB that charlie sheen is given much more leeway, okay, yes, i agree with that one statement… i think that sheen should be openly mocked and grilled about his many past abuses against women in his life… BUT that still does not take away the fact that it is on film how brutally CB attacked rihanna, the woman he supposedly loved…

  38. MSMLNP says:

Further proves there is no such thing as bad publicity. There is more talk about him tossing a chair at a window and his chrissy-fits then about his actual album. And go figure, he’s got the #1 album on ITunes. What an undeserving douche.

  39. KsGirl says:

He really doesn’t get it, does he? Chris, you moron, the ‘Rihanna thing’ is NEVER going away! You beat the hell out of her. There is no date at which people are going to forget that. He is like a toddler who has yet to learn or udnerstand that actions have consequences. He thinks if he says the word “sorry” enough times, somehow, what he did will go away. And that ain’t how it works in the grown-up world.

  40. Ron says:

I was at Target yesterday in electronics. They had just a few left of the various new releases on the shelf. Except for Brown, there was a full pristine shelf of that crap. Obviously no one is talking about the “album” and who’s fault is that Chrissy?

  41. Faye says:

He’s sorry? Ok then. All’s well.

  42. piedlourde says:

This “man” looks like he should ride the shortbus to kindergarten and pin his mittens to his douche-tastic jackets so he won’t risk losing them when he plays alone on the seesaw.

  43. caramia says:

He’s sorry he didn’t clock Robin when he wanted to

  44. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Hang it up dude, you are pathetic

  45. truetalk says:

anger management classes actually did something for him; he managed to not punch Robin in the 5mins the interview lasted.
maybe after 5 more rounds of classes he can progress to not kicking, screaming and throwing chairs when Mummy doesn’t buy him that toy he wants.

  46. galaxy.girl says:

    I smell a reality show coming…. pew

  47. Candy says:

This guy had his chance to make it in the biz and blew it big time. Now he needs to crawl away and find something else to do because no one wants to see his mug anymore. People like Russell Simmons need to stop supporting this punk and bury him, preferably 6 feet under.

  48. Stella says:

I contacted GMA through their website and let them know how disgusted I was with them inviting this punk back for another interview.

  49. Weeble says:

Not that I disagree with Chris Brown needing to grow up and get some help, but I guess it is ok for some people to hit women and destroy property, while others constantly get slammed and picked apart. Funny how there are no open letters about Charlie Sheen….funny how there are no commenters writing in to all the news outlets that gave him coverage. Oh well, I guess someone has to lose under the double standards rule. And no, I am not standing up for him or saying what he did is appropriate. I am only saying that if we as a society continue to send and accept mixed messages about anger and violence this trend will continue.

  50. Fannyfanfanny says:

Oh I see, it was just a little harmless stress release, well that’s understandable… Chris, next time please just throw yourself through the window instead of a poor innocent chair. Will you finally get it already?? Your career is done, kaput. Your credibility has totally gone out the window.

  51. Lentil says:

I hate the way he apologises for “startling” anyone – like he just popped a balloon, and some delicate flower nearby got a bit nervous.

  52. cindy says:

Is he bleaching his face, he looks alot lighter than older pictures. Maybe we have our next Micheal Jackson

  53. d says:

sooner or later, I bet he’s going to go off on the wrong person and he’ll get back what he’s been putting out tenfold.

  54. Peg says:

Asshat needs to get over himself. I am so disappointed that GMA invited him back. What for? So he can terrorize the staff again?

  55. Newbie says:

In my humble opinion, the world should go on strike with this guy. No matter the antics, NO photos, NO stories, NO comments=celebuworld is a much better place to gossip in. The End.
