Ryan Phillippe pledges to quit acting “I’m not that guy you read about”

Ryan Phillippe gave an interview to the NY Post in which he said he’s going to move to New York for four months out of the year and that he’s thinking about ending his acting career. It sounded like a throwaway comment from someone fed up with the gossip press, but I hope he sticks to it. He recently put his home in Los Angeles up for sale and he may be looking to scale down his lifestyle. He’s probably hoping to score some fresh tail in New York under the radar.

Ryan Phillippe says he wants to bow out of the harsh glare of acting and Los Angeles. Phillippe, who plays a photojournalist in “The Bang Bang Club,” griped about the paparazzi culture. “It’s so hard to go out in LA. I’m going to move,” he told us at La Bottega the other night. “I’m going to spend a third of my year in New York.” He said brokers have been showing him places in SoHo and, “I think I’m going to end my acting career. I’m so introverted. I’m ready to be behind the scenes. I’m 36, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years.” He said he is also tired of being tabloid fodder, probably because of his eventful love life. “I’m a good guy,” he pleaded to us at the Cinema Society after-party for his film. “I’m not that guy you read about.”

[From Page Six]

This must mean that he dumped Amanda Seyfried for the last time and is trying to find a city where he can score random women without the gossip press picking up on it. If he talks himself out of the only career he’s ever known he may be successful at that. It sounds like he’s thinking of taking the Ben Affleck route to career re-generation and going into directing. I doubt he’ll be successful at it, but we’ll see.

Ryan also has all that drama with a pregnant ex girlfriend who must be due soon. She lives in L.A. and she’s an aspiring actress. By moving to NY Ryan won’t have to face his obligations head-on, and he also won’t be able to see his kids with Reese Witherspoon or his new baby as much. That’s ok, though, Ryan would rather have his freedom and try and uphold the facade that he’s a decent guy.

I don’t understand when people at his status ramble on and on about the paps. He is not on the cover of magazines every week. He is not the lead story on gossip shows. Paps are not getting tons of money for pictures of him. But if you look at the celebs that are really hounded by the press they don’t seem to be the ones whining about it. They just don’t read the gossip. He should start there, and stop caring what is being said. I wonder if it is affecting his ability to get parts.

I don’t know. I don’t see many stories about him. So… I’m kind of confused. But I don’t deny he is a very attractive man.

He should do some stage work in New York. He is the most flat actor out there so maybe he can get some practice on Broadway.

Yeah, so they won’t have RP to kick around anymore…until his Armani wardrobe gets thin I’m guessin’

I have never seen the attraction with this guy – in either appearance or his acting skills.

Yeah, NYC is definitely a low-profile kind of place, just ask Lilo.

He actually is a nice guy and has been an involved and emotionally connected father for 11 years. So why be so evil to him? I worked with him and to a person every single individual he came in contact with had nothing but nice things to say about him. It’s the same on every set too. It would be a shame if he stopped acting. There are too few nice actors out there.

How’s he planning on supporting himself (and paying child support)? He can’t have made that much money over the years.

He has a show in production and talks about working but behind the scenes. Why are people such aholes toward this guy. He says what most other actors do. They all want to produce and direct and write blah blah blah. I doubt he’ll stop acting. He says whenever he’s burnt out after doing press for a week.

yea i am not getting the snark towards this guy either….
    he does not bother me.
i think the gossip is manufactured in his case-easy target maybe?
it’s easy to fabricate what may be happening based on pics and dating life.

Yes, that’ll really free you up for more mattress-dancing with fresh random age-inappropriate hook-ups; while maintaining your under-the-radar profile. Good thinkin’ there, Ryan.

  11. Hautie says:

Well he obviously has a Mother who reads all the gossip.

And lets be honest it is never good gossip.

So to have her on the phone to him every day harping about it. I image it would get old too.

So if he thinks moving to NYC for awhile will make a difference, then he needs to go. He is a decent actor. And I suspect, he will keep working.

(And he was really on his A game in The Lincoln Lawyer. It was a good movie.)

Blah, Blah, Blah! I hate when these people constantly gripe and complain about how miserable their lives are. It makes no sense.

  13. Awake Sheeple says:

Bellaluna’s comment is typical of the meme against him. He’s never dated anyone under 25 so how “inappropriate” has he been? Not very. But there are people who have had a negative ideal created by sites like this and ignorant posts like this one and they can’t separate fact from fabrication.

Always with the extreme hate toward Ryan Phillippe. Why is that? Do you live frustrated lives? Have deep seated unhappiness? I know people who have worked with him. Ryan has their respect because of his work ethic, his talent, and his genuine friendliness. He manages to maintain a friendship with his ex-wife for the good of their two kids. He’s a loving, involved father. I think he seems like a solid guy.

  15. Betsy says:

I agree with Hautie. Ryan was really good in the Lincoln Lawyer. Maybe he gets a bad rap because he plays the douche bag character so convincingly? I never cared either way but I am kind of starting to feel sorry for him.

He seems way more real than Reese.

WAIT in the same sentence he says he cant go out in LA and Im so introverted?? total contradiction.

Doesnt he have 2 children in LA??? Wouldnt that be enough to keep you here??! He sure seems like THAT guy we read about (selfish and immature).

  18. rolls eyes at the dummies says:

Don’t get too excited haters. As usual Page 6 got the message out of context and botched what he said. Most likely he never spoke directly to them at all. Ryan was great in Lincoln Lawyer and anyone who takes the time to see TBBC will be impressed by his performance and him taking a risk on a tiny, low budget, South African production. IMO he’s an actor who would be missed.

I would totally miss him. I’m glad this is not true because I am a huge fan. I just watched Bang Bang Club and it was very very good and Ryan was gorgeous and talented as usual!

i like ryan a lot, and his acting is really awesome, he’s a good looking guy, dedicated dad, (the pictures shows as much), i hope he learns to ignore the naysayers,it’s gossip, not fact, most knows the different, harmless fun, it comes with the chosen profession, if they’re not talking, you are not worthy, get thick skin ryan and move forward, in movies of course.

Weird…are Ryan and his friends pulling a Scott Adams on this site? Good heavens!

I find it hard to read about someone bitching about a lack of privacy and announcing where he plans to move in the same sentence. I don’t doubt he’s a good dad…those annoying paparazzi pics sure seem to prove it, ironically.

I will say he sure has retained his hot youthful looks even as he’s approaching 40. And I totally bought Cruel Intentions last summer because I was so in love with his hawtness back in the day.
