Britney Spears does two video interviews: somewhat scripted and much improved

Britney Interview starts at :58 in and goes to 3:30. At 2:45 she puts on a slight British accent that sounds like an accident, remember when she did that constantly?

Britney Spears’ new Femme Fatale tour stars this Friday and goes until the end of November with a whopping 54 shows in 53 cities around the world. She gets a six week break at the end of summer before she starts her European tour, which means she’ll do about four shows a week when she’s in the states. I would say that I doubt she’s up for it, but I said that before her Circus Tour in ’09 and that went off almost without a hitch. Britney is a money-making machine, and this time around she seems like she’s ready for it emotionally. She’s still kind of strutting around the stage and lip syncing, but as many of you have pointed out she has a bum knee and might not be capable of the more demanding moves she was known for before she had knee surgery.

Anyway Britney hasn’t done any non-pretaped video interviews, as far as I can find, to promote this latest album. She’s done some print interviews that sound written by a PR team with Britney-isms added for authenticity. Carson Daly tweeted in late March that Britney’s people had some incredibly strict demands on any video interviews. They had to be pre-taped, pre-approved and presumably edited before they could be released.

So here are two new interviews with Britney that were probably scripted and were both pre-taped and likely approved by her people. She still comes across as genuine and as trying, especially in the British interview above. She lapses into a British accent at one point that seems inadvertent but then she puts on the accent again on purpose for effect. She’s funny and seems somewhat natural and comfortable. I love what she says about how she tries to make her tour buses and dressing rooms like home by using the same shabby chic style she favors. (I’m not a fan of that style, but it’s Britney and if she’s into it more power to her.) It’s also funny that she says she keeps slim by eating “clean,” considering the rumors that her tour has banned hot dogs and cookie dough.

In the Entertainment Tonight interview below she’s more “deer in the headlights” but still seems to be trying and to really care about her fans. She gets excited when explaining how pumped she gets to hear the fan response right before she sets foot on stage.

There’s something kind of sad and reluctant about Britney in that second interview, but at least she seems like she really enjoys touring and seeing her fans. It’s more than I expected from her, and gives me hope that she’s doing fine and is ready for this. It’s not the first time she’s toured and it’s worth noting that her last tour went off very well.

Oh – on their website ETOnline is going with the angle that Britney would do a reality competition show, like Christina Aguilera on The Voice, but I think she’s just being positive about it and isn’t ruling it out.

She is coming to New Orleans and over the weekend Groupon had ticket prices for half off. I wonder if she is having problems selling shows??

  2. Trillion says:

Someone let her out of the house pairing those boots with that dress? (Not to mention pairing those boots with those legs.)

  3. 4Real says:

    Still dead in the eyes…

  4. Rio says:

    @Trillion
I was thinking the same thing!”Wow, she’s looking really good! The weave’s nice, the dress works, she’s in shape and dear GOD what is she wearing on her feet?!”

  5. Anonandonandon says:

I wonder if this will be Droopy’s last tour.

  6. Ron says:

Have you heard Britney’s cover of Madonna’s “Burning Up”?? It will make your ears bleed.

  7. fallen says:

Wow she seems really great ! Esp in the first interview.

  8. boo says:

I feel for this girl, she is seriously on lots of meds to keep the crazy at bay, but she has lost that spark. At least she is on the mend and I hope when she has enough money to live the rest of her life in the style to which she has become accustomed she will retire and have a wonderful life.

  9. Lola says:

I grew up with Britney and will always wish her well but GD she is so lifeless now.

I wish that her parents would stop with the medication and seek more natural forms of wellness.

I’m syill holding out hope that she will gain some of that excitement she lost during her dark days.

  10. Aurelia says:

Hmmm, I’m english but didn’t hear an accent???

  11. Amanda G says:

Why would anyone want to pay good money to see a “performer” lip sync, barely dance and not even play an instrument? I’ll never understand why this girl is famous.

  12. Gossip Owl says:

My first thoughts are that I think it’s pretty disgusting that her family and industry associates are exploiting someone who is clearly mentally ill for their own personal gain. But on the other hand, I wonder if they do this because this is truly what she desires and it is important for someone who is mentally ill to feel like they can contribute to the world. I think Britney needs to get out of the music biz and out of Hollywood. I think it’s doing more damage than good.

  13. aenflex says:

Poor child. I hope she makes it fine.

  14. Jill says:

    serious amounts of mood stabilizers…

  15. mzjask says:

yeah shes totally lost “it.” deer in heads lights is right.

  16. MarenGermany says:

She still has an enormous fan base and has sold so so many records. She is still a household name, she could do so many things, but I think she is just not into the whole music industry circus anymore.
Like so many said, I am conviced that someone with financial interests pushes her on stage.
    that is very sad.

  17. sam says:

She always has the saddest eyes. She looks completely exhausted in the first interview.

  18. sassy says:

bum knee or not, she lacks complete passion for performance. even if you do a show in a wheelchair, you still show you have excitement and passion for what you do.

  19. junipergreen says:

To the person who said they wish her parents would stop the meds and seek “more natural means” of healing–

That is NOT possible for bipolar disorder. I’m fully stable now (and not lifeless, despite the Lithium and four other meds), but have severe ultra rapid cycling bipolar 1 with primarily mixed mania and severe depression (in the past). My meds saved my life. There are no natural remedies for bipolar. They all cause manic episodes, make the depression worse, or do nothing (which can lead to suicide). So, yeah…no.

I think she looked great in the first interview, but awful and wiped out in the second. Even when stable, you can have periods of flatness (not lifelessness), especially during periods of stress or high demands. Granted it depends what meds she is on and how her physiology responds to them. But my issues is this:

So it’s fairly obvious she’s bipolar, but we don’t know for sure. Whatever treatment she is on, everyone has an opinion of what should be done, shouldn’t be done, etc. But treatment for bipolar is VERY individual and not a single person on this planet knows exactly what is going on with her but her, her dad, and her doctors.

  20. texasmom says:

Yeah, she is pretty tamped down, and it is sad to see. But I think that being able to speak in coherent sentences is a real plus, too, worth the trade-off. I think she is fated to have a life that she kind of “walks through.”

  21. Shy says:

People say that her parents and team make her to do this for their OWN gain… But didn’t anyone thought that they do it for BRITNEY and her FUTURE? She had millions of dollars but she lives very rich and expensive life. Who knows how much she spend already. And she will not be able to perform and make that big money when she will be 35-40. She is not Madonna. She can barely perform now. Who knows what will be when she is 40. How will she make big money then?

And she has children too. Many people work for her. She has to pay them too. They do it because they know she has to work now while she can. How will she live expensive and rich life when the money will run out? And they will one day. If she will just vanish in her house for 3-5 years then people will forget about her and move on. And it will be hard if not impossible for her to lay low and then return in 7 years with new album.

Look at JLo who went quite and took time after she gave birth. She went away for few years and people just forgot about her. She returned and no one cared, her music didn’t sell. And only appearance in American Idol has made her a little relevant. But still she is not the same SuperStar she was. Look at Mariah Carey, look at music career of Christina Aguilera….

If they will let Britney live quiet then her career will be over forever and sooner or later she will run out from her money.

  22. Shy says:

And people… Please… Her knee doesn’t have anything to do with her lifeless dancing. Soccer players have major, supermajor operations on their knees and legs every year. And then in 3-5 months they run on fields like new. They run 90 minutes non-stop every week. And practice every day….

There isn’t such big problem with knee that doctor’s can’t heal. It’s not like she is running marathon every month. Or plays professional sport like tennis.

  23. HotPockets says:

    @ Junipergreen

I think it is different case to case. My husband was diagnosed as being bipolar and for years he took the medication that was prescribed to him. One day he said to me, I feel worse taking all this medication than I did before, I rather experience highs and lows than feel completely disconnected from the world. I encouraged him to quit taking his medication because I have seen so many people complain about the same thing. He hasn’t taken anything for depression and bi-polar now for 3 years and is much happier and MORE stable. He said he would never consider pharmaceutical medication again. I have had many people tell me the same thing and they start to reconsider why they were advised to get on the medication in the first place. I have a tendency to think that there are alternatives than what the standard is and they work, but we have been brainwashed as a society into thinking our “illnesses” must be corrected with modern medicine.

As for Britney and the British accent, when I was studying psychology, it was often theorized that individuals who altered accents suffered from severe and traumatic abuse and their brains had created compartments which could be triggered and within each compartment there could be different personalities. I think “the British girl” Britney defaults to at times is part of her multiple personalities, which probably occurred through whatever abuse she endured growing up in the industry. What’s ironic is Nicky Minaj does a British accent, too..

  24. jello says:

Poor Britney. I don’t think any of us really know what’s going on, and who is at fault or not. Imagine, all her life she’s trained and strived to be Britney Spears the Pop Princess and nothing else. What will happen to her when she can literally no longer go on? There’s no other life she’s ever known and she has no other skills. Hopefully this tour will help put some money away, so she can quietly stay home and raise her kids and try to build a life.

  25. DanDan says:

You guys need to stop judging and leave Britney alone!! She’s lucky to be functioning at all after what has happened to her, and I think she’s doing amazingly well. 🙂 You go, girl!!! <3

  26. Jag says:

Daddy’s gotta keep her drugged up enough that he can retain his position over her. How else can he make the $100k (I think) a month that the court awarded him after his petition for it?

I seriously doubt she’s that much of a handful for him to be paid that much to take care of her young self. Oh wait – she’s an adult and should be able to take care of herself.

I hope that she has as much fun as possible while on tour, and that things go well.

  27. Rio says:

    @Jag
“Oh wait – she’s an adult and should be able to take care of herself.”

She should, but she can’t. She. Can’t. It’s not a matter of Bowser keeping the Princess in another castle– she has been declared legally unfit to care for herself, over and over again. We don’t know why, we don’t know what’s wrong with her, but we do know she has to be kept under legal observation/guardianship. IIRC, she was declared unfit BEFORE Jaime stepped forward to take responsibility of her.

I’m glad she seems to have a spark back to her (I never listened to her music but I remember the dull horror/fascination that was 2006/7) but she’s never going to be the same person she was before her breakdown.

  28. LucyOriginal says:

She could sing when she was a child. Didn’t she perform on an off-Broadway musical at age of 8? I wondered what happened that she lip sync…

Wasn’t she also enrolled early in her life at Professional Performing Arts School in New York?

  29. Jaana says:

She still isnt better but she is coming back..

  30. Shy says:

She is so used to be fake that she just can’t talk like a normal person.

People – if her dad will go away then in 2-3 months we will see her in pink wig again. I don’t want that. But still I don’t understand why after 2-3 years of medication she looks stoned and lifeless like this. She has all the care she needs. The best doctors. And still she looks like this.

And it’s not evil industries fault. Look at Justin Timberlake. He is the same product as Britney. And yet he didn’t even had problems with drugs. Ever. Look at Leo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Dakota Fanning, Harry Potter kids… Not everyone ends up like Lohan and Britney.

  31. Crash2GO2 says:

@HotPockets: It is worth mentioning that there are two forms of bipolar, and if your husband is functional without meds, he undoubtedly has the lesser form of it. Those with severe bipolar are not functional without meds. It borders on schizophrenia in its severity and symptoms, complete with hallucinations.

  32. Miss Diagnosed says:

@Crash2GO2- You’re absolutely right about there being two forms of bipolar. Some people can function on homeopathic versions of Lithium and other medications. I wish that I could go off my meds, but I am thankful and grateful for them. They have saved my life. I was taken off my Lithium once when my levels became to toxic, and within two days the police were dragging me over to the hospital because I was so out of control.

I wish Britney the best. I hope this is what she wants, the tour and being back in the spotlight. I can’t imagine how stressful that must be.

  33. Hakura says:

@Lola“I wish that her parents would stop with the medication and seek more natural forms of wellness.”

I’m afraid I have to agree with JuniperGreen on this one. I really *wish* there were more successful ‘natural methods’, or even just methods that had fewer major side effects. That isn’t to say there won’t be at some point, but for now, it seems like this is really the only option that makes life ‘livable’ for those suffering from these issues.

I really think Britney would do well on a reality show (like ‘The Voice’). She’s definitely not anywhere near as ‘vocally’ talented as Christina, but Britney has a much sweeter ‘likeable’
nature, & could be very encouraging & helpful to contestants. It would be a fun, less demanding (physically & emotionally) job, that I think she’d really enjoy.

I do hope it’s something she considers. The only downside her team may see is that everything would be ‘live’ in front of an audience, & interaction/conversations she has with judges/contestants couldn’t be ‘preapproved’ by her team.
