Kanye West compares himself to Hitler, Michael Jordan in the same breath

Apparently, Kanye West hasn’t received enough media attention since he promoted his latest album last fall. During that tour of terror, he milked his previous Taylor Swift and George W. Bush outbursts of their last conceivable drop of worth by whining that Swift never defended him and then freaking out on the “Today” show. Since then, Kanye’s been pretty chill, so he must have gotten bored and, as a result, decided to say some nonsensical things onstage at the Big Chill Festival at Eastnor castle in England over the weekend. The results were, according to TMZ, both hilarious and pathetic:

Call him Air Fuhrer … because this weekend, Kanye West compared himself to both Michael Jordan and Adolf Hitler during a performance in England.

West was performing at the Big Chill music festival Saturday night … when he went on one of his signature rants … this time focusing on the hardships of being so painfully misunderstood.

“I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m f**king insane … like I’m Hitler.”

He continued, “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.”

Moments later, Kanye suggested that he needed to be the MJ of music, “Michael Jordan changed so much in basketball, he took his power to make a difference. It’s so much f**king going on in music right now and somebody has to make a f**king difference.”

Michael Jordan and Hitler folks … Michael Jordan. And Hitler.

[From TMZ]

So the question is this — does Kanye truly believe that people look at him like he’s the grande dame of the Third Reich, or is he purposely spouting nonsensical crap to create a faux controversy? I think it’s a little of both, actually, with emphasis on the latter; and to be honest, I’m not sure where Michael Jordon comes into this other than Kanye just talking about how simultaneously villified and great that he fancies himself to be. This little stunt is much like the time that Kanye wanted his album artwork banned so that he could complain about it and play the martyr. In other words, this outburst is a classic Kanye episode but just a little more ridiculous than usual.

For illustrative purposes, here’s Kanye walking down the street after arriving at London’s Heathrow airport. If you take five tequila shots, squint sideways, and draw a funny moustache on him, you can totally see the resemblance to Hitler, right?

    Attention Whore.

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

He didn’t say he looked like Hitler. He said people look at him like he is Hitler. Which I don’t know why anyone would. What exactly does that mean…does he mean people look at him with hatred or what? Like seriously? IDK. Artists like Kanye and Lady Gaga just say crazy things…its not anything to make a huge fuss over…sometimes it makes sense and can be profound. Sometimes its nonsense. This is nonsense, but I still love you Kanye.

  3. Lydz says:

LMAO oh nos! why Hilter… there are plenty of other crazy people out there. I was dating a guy that looked just like him…. had to dump him. cant stand Kanye.

  4. Chickie Baby says:

Oh, geez. Somewhere, out there, is a village that’s missing its idiot.

I think we have found him.

  5. UKHels says:

I can guarantee you that most people in the UK (particularly those who live in the Big Chill area) wouldn’t know Kanye if he was wearing a big sandwich board saying ‘my name is Kanye West’on it

seriously, back your ego down boyfriend, no-one cares!!

  6. jover says:

Don’t give hitler that much credit – today’s celebutards are such douches – were did all the cool ones go?

  7. Heatheradair says:

and this is the reason he needs to hookup with JLo. The attention-hungry antics would NEVER stop. She can play Mother Theresa to his Hitler. Fer serious. How do we make this happen?

  8. OriginalGracie says:

Here is what I do: I judge Kanye solely on his music which I really like.

Yes, he says dumb and incendiary things all the time. Well, so what? He struggles to express himself and sometimes sounds like a huge ass. He isn’t the first and he won’t be the last.

Something he DID say that I DID agree with is right after hurricane Katrina, Kanye said: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” I believe that to be true. (and Mike Meyers double take is priceless.)

My point is: people only have to take Kanye seriously when he talks if they choose to. You can also choose to not listen, to not read, or to walk away.
So unless Kanye is advocating for people to rape, pillage, burn down or otherwise harm other humans, then just don’t listen.

Buy one of his CS’s instead and be amazing at how talented he really is.
And I am a 53 year old white woman who has raised two kids in one of the whitest states in the US (Maine).

“He didn’t say he looked like Hitler. He said people look at him like he is Hitler. Which I don’t know why anyone would.”

maybe because people hate him like they hate hitler. and considering hes a mysoginistic attention seeking douche bag who exaggerates up by comparing himelf to a mass murderer i can see why.

  10. silken_floss says:

@Lydz- You dated a guy who looked like Hitler? @_@

  11. Susette says:

You guys are so mean. Imagine how difficult it must be for him to sing, talk, and Tweet, all while having his head so far up his own ass that he can taste his tonsils. Oh, the hardships he’s overcome.

  12. yo momma says:

“So unless Kanye is advocating for people to rape, pillage, burn down or otherwise harm other humans, then just don’t listen.”

erm hello, did you not see his “monster” video? he is putting out harmful and thoughtless message but oh, as long as he makes a good toone thats ok!

  13. PrettyLights says:

Love me some Kanye. He never fails to be amusing, especially when he doesn’t mean to be.

  14. Elizabeth says:

    @ Chickie
    re: village missing its idiot
If you would be so kind as to give the exact location of this village, we can pool our money and buy KW a bus ticket to take him back there! Thanks!

  15. Amanda G says:

I think he enjoys the hate. I also agree with some of the things he says (Taylor, Bush), but not the WAY he says them. I think he needs a good dose of “real life.” Send him to a third world nation and let him get some perspective.

  16. OriginalGracie says:

@yo momma: Those are song lyrics. If we hated every artist that put forth some vivid imagery in their song lyrics, we would have to not listen to about half of what is out there.

Like for example Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie.”

If we are going to condemn Kanye for song lyrics, then are we going to boycott every artist that uses inflammatory lyrics or visuals in a music video? Does that mean that someone can not write a violent themed book? What about the television show Dexter where he routinely kills people?
Where do you want to go with that?

  17. hmm says:

DGAF, I like him and at least he has a personality (and talent) and doesn’t say sh*t just so people like him. And people did act like he raped a woman and then killed her onstage when he interrupted Taytay at the VMAS. Everyone had an opinion and they treated him like he was a monster, so yeah, I get what he’s saying.

  18. Lydz says:

LOL @silken…. no i dated a guy that looked like kanye 😛

  19. Lydz says:

LOL @silken…. no i dated a guy that looked like kanye 😛

  20. jover says:

For those of you defending kw’s statement re george bush and black people, how much of kw’s own time and money have been donated/spent helping the largely black populace in the katrina aftermath. I could be wrong but i’m guessing not much. btw, most rappers don’t care for black people, they just want their money to become rich. And truth to tell, most celebrities, irrespective of color/ethnicity, are like that. That’s fine but in the past they just entertained collected their paychecks and weren’t asked or kept their opinions to themselves – something impossible to do in our media saturated world. Original grace, kw may be talented as far as today’s hip hop, but talented in the true sense of the term. Be serious there’s nothing particularly talented about what he does.

  21. e.non says:

he is really one stupid-assed mofo .. not to mention off the chart narcissist

  22. Dolkite says:

Jover – I often think about this…why do poor blacks idolize clownish rappers waving their wealth in America’s face while so many are living off food stamps and unemployment benefits? Whenever I hear Kanye brag about how he owns three Bentleys, I wonder how much good and happiness he could be providing to others for the cost of one of those stupidly overpriced cars.

  23. gg says:

But Kanye, you ARE f**king insane, and prove it everytime you open your fool mouth!

He LOVES the hate so he can keep whining about being a martyr. He HAS to whine you know, can’t say anything positive, just whining and pissing and moaning.

    LMFAO!

  25. Adrien says:

He likened himself to Jordan because he’s an innovator, then he mentioned Hitler, the default dictator of anyone who wants to compare anything evil. At least be original, Kanye. Why not mention Kim Jong il, Pol Pot or Kadaffi? Hitler is so Megan Fox 3 years ago.

  26. Anne says:

How do you do anything but laugh at this guy?

Is he still talking about himself in the 3rd person? If we have to listen to our idiots, we can at least not take them seriously!!

  27. TQB says:

Damnit, Kanye, you make it so difficult sometimes. @Original Gracie, I CHEERED when Kanye said that Bush didn’t care about black people. Lots of people thought so at the time. He said it and I think it needed to be out there.

@Hmmm, I was disturbed by the undercurrent of the criticism for the Swift incident. It was tacky, childish and drunky. It was not violent or even particularly mean – just dumb. But people didn’t like a black dude being rude to a pretty little white southern girl.

But come on dude, Hitler? Give it a rest. Now you’re just sayin’ stuff to day stuff.

  28. Skinnybetch says:

I’m embarrassed that I bought this goons last album. *hangs head in shame*

  29. Mia says:

KANYE’S AGONY – a public tragedy of our times. His agent must be the most stressed out person in the world!

  30. BigHair&Pearls says:

    Slow news day, is it?

  31. LittleDeadGirl says:

While I agree with those that say his music should be judged on merit alone it has come to a point where all I can think of when I hear his stuff is how stupid he truly is. Gaga is the same thing. There comes a point where you can’t just enjoy the music …

  32. Str8Shooter says:

Maybe they’re just looking at you cuz they think you’re a fucking NARCISSISTIC DOUCHEBAG.

Not that you’re important. Get over yourself.

  33. JaneWonderfalls says:

Him an Chris Brown should open up a hospital for the victims of America, for two people who have gotten off lightly with their bs, they sure play the victims a lot, I have no sympathy for celebrities who make a whole lot out of nothing! Poor little rich boy syndrome!

  34. theaPie says:

Drama King, your table for one is ready.

  35. Whatamess! says:

    He’s with Kate Upton right?
    Poor girl

  36. Visiting says:

Kanye and Beyonce say the craziest sh*t,
Kanye feels he’s comparable to Hitler because people not liking him is that serious and that powerful, What a douche-bag placing way too much value on his importance
and his crazy BFF beyonce and her
“I’m too famous to go to Church” apparently she’s more serious and powerful than GOD, that she can’t enter a church. SMH
Kanye and Beyonce really need to get over themselves and have some therapy sessions before they wake up thinking they can part the sea and separate the clouds and fly.

  37. My2Cents says:

I’ve always thought of him as a major tool but I saw him recently at Slendor In The Grass and he rocked it. I was really surpised how good he was live.

  38. Lolita says:

Is it because he is black? He is a musical genius. That is all

  39. Juliesunflower says:

@janewonderfalls, we are discussing Kanye’s stupidness and arrogance and not Chris Brown – he is not the poster boy for everything bad.

  40. s says:

    @Lolita:
No its not because he is Black, and music genius LOL, since when does becoming a genius mean constantly sampling other peoples music

  41. saintdevil says:

Well, I think the comparison fits.

If Hitler had had a Twitter account, he would have been caps-locking all the time, too.

  42. Anne says:

Twitter has been such a bad idea for celebrities–a classic example of the quote (one variation): “It’s better to say nothing and have people think you’re foolish than to open your mouth and prove you are”

  43. skuddles says:

Dude, best you should just never speak – seriously, do not utter words… ever. Anytime you open your mouth, you sound like a total jackass. Why do you have such a bloated sense of self-importance? Do you honestly think anyone really gives a damn… you’re not some messiah, just a rapper who takes himself waaaay too seriously. I assure you, you are nothing more than fodder for the humor mill and that is all. Any actual talent you may possess is completely lost on the masses the moment you open your yap.

  44. yo momma says:

oi OriginalGracie, actually, i do depolre violence but in this case its not that he is using violence-but using violence again a specific group of people-women, whom are repeatly the subject of violnce in real life-yes there is a fucking issue there. it should be questioned. stop trying to take the moral high ground “oh its art” if its art it should be questioned and this hack gets a pass because hes brainwashed people into thinking hes talent. my farts are more talented.

so yeah “theres where i want to go with that!!!” why the fuck do i have to explain why i am objecting to somthing? answer me that!!!
