Mila Kunis: “If somebody finds me attractive, God bless them”

mila1

Mila Kunis doesn’t even look like a real person in a few of the shots from her Glamour UK cover shoot. That’s a testament to the Photoshop, sure, but a good chunk of it is just MILA. She’s gorgeous. The kitty photo in particular is one of the loveliest, most striking images I’ve seen in a while. Mila took the Glamour cover because she’s promoting Friends With Benefits overseas, and probably hoping to find an international audience. Which shouldn’t be too difficult, considering she’s so hot when she’s speaking Russian. As for the interview – it’s kind of meh, but it’s not bad:

She shed an astonishing 20lbs from her already slim frame to play a ballerina in Oscar-winning movie Black Swan. And now Mila Kunis has admitted losing the weight has entirely changed her views on body image. The 27-year-old actress, a self-confessed ‘foodie’, said she was stunned with how much her body was capable of changing.

She told the new issue of Britain’s Glamour magazine: ‘I don’t think I ever fully realised what a human body is capable of doing. But I think I was also, in a beautiful way, incredibly naïve. I believed I could do anything. I never for one moment thought that I couldn’t do it. I believe in hard work. In self-drive and self-worth. I’m a huge foodie, I love food. But when people say, ‘I can’t lose weight’, no no no, you can. Your body can do everything and anything, you just have to want to do it.’

Mila, who was born in Chernivtsi in the Ukrainian SSR, also revealed she finds it difficult to accept that people find her attractive – despite the fact she won Spike TV’s Guys’ Choice award this summer for the Holy Grail of Hot. Talking about the award, Mila laughed: ‘It’s insane. Listen, I couldn’t be happier to get any of this, because I think it’s hysterical and it makes all my friends laugh. If somebody finds me attractive, God bless them, I think it’s fantastic.’

Mila added the reason she is able to stay so refreshingly grounded in the movie industry is because she stays positive. She said: ‘I’m in an industry based on rejection. On negativity and let-downs. People are rejected every single day purely based on opinion, about who’s a good actress, who’s a bad actress, who’s pretty, who’s ugly, who’s fat, who’s skinny. So why go there? You have to have a positive outlook. Otherwise you’re in a very dark place.’

Mila can next be seen in this summer’s hottest romcom, Friends With Benefits, alongside Justin Timberlake. But despite reports the actors are more than friends, Mila was quick to scotch the rumours. The pair raised eyebrows in June when she and Justin, 30, presented an award to Robert Pattinson by sending up rumours that they were a couple with Justin cupping Mila’s breasts as she gripped his crotch. They then furthered relationship reports when they were spotted on an apparent date in London last week.

However, Mila insisted the claim was ‘an unfortunate thing that comes with the circumstances, but there’s no truth to it whatsoever.’ She added: ‘Being single, I find myself not being able to be in a room with a man without, the next day, I’m dating that man. That happened for a solid six months (after Black Swan) when maybe – maybe! – I’d been in the same room.’

But Mila did say of her co-star: ‘He’s incredibly funny, we laughed a lot on set,’ saying of the MTV skit: ‘We thought it was hilarious and we were promoting an R-rated comedy.’

As for what she’s looking for in a man – it’s humour rather than looks. She said: ‘Humour is an amazing quality to have. I like sarcasm, satire, self-deprecating humour. But I also think there’s something to be said for not looking for anything and being pleasantly surprised.’

And despite the fact that Mila was catapulted into super-stardom through her role in Black Swan, she remains logical about how much her profession affects the rest of the world.

She explained: ‘No one’s curing cancer in this industry, remember? It’s not changing the world. It’s just entertainment, an art, a form of escapism. My friends and family are my number one thing in life, but you need a healthy balance. It’s not to say my goal in life is to have a family and kids, and let that be my number one priority either. This is a phenomenal job, but the most important lesson I’ve learnt is that you never want to let your only source of happiness come from something that’s so filled with uncertainty.’

[From The Mail]

Mila sounds very grounded and humble here, which gives me hope that she’s going to last a long time in the industry – she has the right kind of attitude, and she seems healthy in a population of very unhealthy people. Of course, I should note that this interview was probably done a few months ago, before Mila and JT had their date nights in London, and before I was convinced that they are, in fact, boning. JT just had to get his douche all over her. God knows who she is now.

  1. Michael says:

How can you have a date with 25 other people?

  2. werty says:

I still like her. And i hope she doesnt turn into a douche, cause shes just awsome the way she is.

  3. abbizmal says:

    God bless me, then.

  4. Trace says:

She’s beautiful and has a good head on her shoulders. I don’t understand the recent negativity towards her. The whole FWB promotions will be done soon. I can’t believe JT is that influential that he would convert her over to his douchey ways, unless she was already like that to begin with. From all her interviews, she is humble and grounded, but you can see she has a fiery, sassy spirit in her. It comes across in her interviews sometimes, and I see why it can be interpreted as douchiness (gawd, I hate this word!)

  5. Kbomb says:

She’s beautiful and seems really genuine. But since I’m a kitty who likes to scratch, I do have to say she has inordinately large feet.

  6. werty says:

Kbomb: Why would you even look at her feet?? Thats like going to a movie theatre just to see the trailers…

And i think this is the first time ive been blessed by god, except that time a priest sprinkled water on my head.

  7. sarah says:

I hate the cover photo, but all the others are very beautiful.

  8. Ellie says:

Oh Christ! another one of these woman who suit there and go on and on about how they just don’t understand why or how anyone finds them attrative. Blah, Blah!

  9. danielle says:

I like her…but I have a hard time believing she doesn’t realize how gorgeous she is.

  10. Relli says:

I REALLY HOPE they do Natalie Wood biopic soon because Mila would be PERFECT for the role.

  11. Mari says:

I’m slightly obsessed with her eyebrows…

  12. Susette says:

I still love her, but, yeah, it drives me nuts when beautiful actresses act like they didn’t realize others find them attractive. Since the beginning of her career, she’s gotten plenty of roles largely based on her looks, including her first big role as Jackie on That 70s Show. Her beauty may not go to her head, but you can’t tell me that she’s not aware it exists.

  13. Hautie says:

I refuse to believe that she let that idiot JT ever touch her.

I want to believe Mila can see him for the douchebag that he is… the one who is hateful to a waitress trying to do her job.

  14. LIVEALOT says:

    a fabulous retro look.

  15. curleque says:

Forget Mila… I WANT THAT KITTY!

  16. HotPockets says:

I have always said this, but some of the most beautiful women don’t realize how stunning they are or some of them are really insecure. I think beauty is hard to identify with, because it is so subjective. Most people don’t see themselves the same way others do, so maybe Mila doesn’t think she is a bombshell. There are some pretty girls out there who don’t even realize the magnitude of their hotness.

Aside from that, I don’t think Mila is humble. Sometimes she comes across very well, but most of the time she seems very childish.

On a different token, of course they hooked up, this woman dated Macaulay Culkin for years. Why wouldn’t JT be appealing to her, after all, they’re both child stars, blonde and full of themselves..

  17. Heatherrr says:

Hotpockets, I dig your wiener dog.

    I loooooove Mila.

  18. Abby says:

I would love to see Alexander Skarsgard and Mila dating. He needs to be shake off the stench of eau du Bosworth and date someone who is as normal as the Hollywood pool of weirdos can provide. The pretty would be off the charts.

  19. taylor says:

I also feel very good knowing Mila has blessed me! 🙂

I think Mila is one of the most humble and grounded actresses in the business and has done a great job staying out of the Hollywood scene that so many actresses fall into. I do admit she may be over doing it a little with the “how can anybody find me attractive” routine. As someone already mentioned the foundation of her career was built on being attractive…the role she got on That 70s show was the role of the “attractive cheerleader” character…even at that age she had to recognize what the role was, and what the producers were looking for…umm, the attractive girl…;)

Now that her career has really taken off and she is getting many magazine covers and photo spreads again, she is intelligent enough to understand you don’t get those offers if lots of people aren’t finding you very attractive. It’s OK Mila to just say thank you and be appreciative.

I read a great quote from her a couple years ago saying that looks fade and you can’t build your career on that…so I applaud her for getting it, and understanding how fleeting this is, but it’s OK to accept it for what it is right now. She is smoking hot, both in the looks and how her career is going right now. So it’s OK to enjoy it.

  20. Anne says:

There is a difference between attractive and photogenic. I don’t find her particularly attractive–more arresting than pretty.

But if you think about what she said regarding Hollywood as an industry filled with rejection and negativity, maybe her disbelief in her own looks makes more sense. I bet all these gorgeous actresses and models are constantly being told what’s wrong with them in minute detail–bluntly and unkindly. It must be strange working in an industry that’s both ego-stroking and ego-crushing at the same time!

  21. 4Real says:

    Love her!

  22. VeneficA Delirium says:

On, one hand, God bless me because I do think she’s extremely pretty.

On the other hand, this is so insincere. It’s called fishing for compliments. It must be nice deliberately and publicly calling yourself unattractive so that a bunch of people can validate you by telling you how so not ugly you are. It must be nice.

Too bad us true uggos are still hiding from the world.

  23. bored says:

    Gorgeous pictures.

  24. Shoe_Lover says:

I love the top shot. It is very Sharon Tate-esque.

  25. corey says:

Oh yeah I can TOTALLY picture all her friends laughing their faces off anytime she wins an award or gets complimented on her looks. Sometimes I wish celebrities would just tell the truth instead of feeling the need to make up these BS stories.

  26. JaneWonderfalls says:

Mila contributes her humble ways to her family and her up bringing, She’s cool and I wish her continued success.

  27. The Bobster says:

#5, you’re right. That 70’s Show got it wrong. Donna didn’t have the Bullwinkle J. Moose feet. Jackie did.

  28. RuddyZooKeeper says:

I don’t think she meant it to sound this way, but her thoughts on weight loss are disturbing. So anyone can do it if they really want to? I guess it just threw me that this quote comes right after the mag announced her 20lb weight loss when she obviously was not overweight. How exactly have her views on body image changed except perhaps to look at the overweight with knowing contempt? Really, she seems sweet and genuine–I’m just confused about where this was going.

  29. ZenB!tch says:

@kbomb – I noticed the feet too, they are also oddly shaped. I was wondering if they were also the victims of Photoshop.

I don’t know much about her. What little I thought about her before the Golden Globes was “eh”. I mean I thought “wtf is she dating Macauley Culkin” but I would have thought that about anyone dating him. I thought that about the one who married him. ICK.

I noticed her during awards shows. I had that my version of a girl crush reaction “DAYUM! Why can’t *I* look like that?!” I didn’t realize she was the girl on the 70s show. I don’t know if it was the weightloss, the lighter hair or just aging (at her age its still a good thing) but she is a lot more attention grabbing than she used to be.

  30. dj says:

Relli – She would be perfect to play Natalie Wood. They are both Russian if memory serves.

  31. Exoticarr says:

I like her. But enough of this ” i don;t find myself attractive ” shit. Fishing for more and more compliments?

  32. HME says:

I like Mila but it pisses me off to no end when people who’ve clearly NEVER struggled with their weight start on about how easy it is to loose weight. Shut your skinny ass up Mila. You were basically PAID to loose 20 pounds you didn’t need to loose, and you probably had a personal trainer, a chef and/or meal delivery service as well. Most people can loose weight pretty easily under those circumstances (just look at the biggest loser) but it’s a whole other ball of wax when your doing it on your own, barely have time to work out and are having to deal with emotional issues as well.

  33. Andria says:

Um, how is it easy to lose 20 lbs off a skinny body? Sure, meal delivery helps, but it isn’t going to convince your body that losing 20 lbs is any kind of good idea when you’re already at a lower weight.

Newsflash: being thinner doesn’t give you some key to magical weight loss land.

  34. Addie says:

Her look is very Russian, so although very pretty, not unusual or unique.

I get a very fake vibe from her
Hearing and understanding her interview in Russia just confirmed it for me.

She has this very Jennifer Aniston thing going on of being what the general public want her to be.
Sorry, I just don’t buy what she is selling.

  35. almond says:

The entire “I don’t know why people find me attractive” schtick is old and quite insulting. How does she think she got all those parts where she was specifically supposed to be a pretty girl? There is no way she can be oblivious to her looks. Granted, she must have her own set of insecurities appearance-wise, but in no way is she not aware that she is hotter than the average girl. She should celebrate her gorgeous Slavic genes and stop bullsh!tting.

  36. Venefica Delirium says:

Actually, I just wish that all of these actresses would stop talking about their looks altogether.

On the other extreme, there’s Sofia Viagara and Christina Hendricks incessantly bragging about their tits and how they think they deserve the goddamned Nobel Peace Prize for being curvy while they spew the same empty rhetoric about being god’s gift to self-acceptance, femininity, and healthy body image.

On the contrary we also have Megan Fox with no discernible talent except for turning simultaneous boasting and bitching into an artform. Oh boohoo. Your beauty is such a curse, we just don’t know how tough it is being (arbitrarily) voted Sexiest Woman Alive multiple times when you alternately aren’t slapping your greasy lips together to any source willing to listen to you bitch about how ugly you think you are and that you think you look like Alan Alda.

Just thank them and move the fuck on. Sometimes my gender really just annoys the hell out of me.

  37. Eve says:

Agree with all the ones who say she’s fishing for (more) compliments — especially Venefica Delirium.

I don’t buy this “I don’t think I’m that attractive” attitude when it’s obvious they are.

P.S.: I also get a fake vibe from her, as Addie says.

  38. Rose says:

Does anyone else think she looks like Adele in that first black and white shot?

  39. katsrulz says:

I was a huge Mila fan until the article broke in the Daily about how fat people are lying to themselves and now this “If somebody finds me attractive, God bless them” act? She’s just like any other spoiled actress that thinks the rest of the world doesn’t understand how hard her life is…of course anyone can loose weight with trainers and working out for 8 hours a day and having food prepared for you. The rest of the world has a different reality Mila…and it’s one you have obviously forgotten.

  40. JGinFlorida says:

Roger Vadim, who was married to a series of beautiful actresses, said he was amazed that each one of them spent so much time concerned about their “beauty”. I once knew a stunning woman who won beauty contests, but mainly because she was so photogenic. In real life she was just a nice looking girl next door. Makeup, photography, can do wonders. Camera angles and distances too. So no, I am sure she wonders about the source of her attractiveness and whether she can keep it up.

  41. Jenni says:

She’s always been thin. So it’s irresponsible for her to make these “you can do it!” statements re losing weight when she was very thin to begin with. Jesus. Her statement is like manna for underweight girls with eating disorders. Yes, you’re already thin and YES, you CAN lose 20 MORE lbs like I did. Don’t say you can’t, I did.

  42. Sid Garcia says:

How to describe Mila Kunis… AWESOME is one way. A. Joli is in a world by herself, but Mila is close behind.
