Jim Carrey declares his love for Emma Stone: creepy or harmless?

I saw this video (^above^) last night, and it really creeped me out. At first, I only read the transcript, and I thought, “Oh, that’s not so bad. Jim Carrey is just declaring his love for a young actress, it’s kind of sweet. Everyone loves Emma Stone and her vagina dust ruffles.” But then I saw the video, and… NO, it’s just creepy. Jim Carrey put the camera right up to his face, the way you would if you were making a hostage plea or a suicidal rant. Plus, I have discomfort because I worry about Jim’s mental health, and this kind of thing piques my concern-troll. Here’s the transcript:

I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re all the way beautiful. Not just pretty, but, you know, smart and kindhearted. And if I were a lot younger, I would marry you, and we would have chubby little freckled faced kids. We’d laugh all day long and go camping and play Yahtzee and tell ghost stories by the fire. And the sex?

Everyday for the rest of your life, you would thank God that I was the appropriate age for you. But I’m not. I’m 49. I have lines on my face, sometimes a little grey in my beard, and it takes me a little longer to pee than it used to. Those are the only discernable signs of aging that I can find so far. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how I felt. You’re pretty special, and I wish you continued success and artistic fulfillment, but most of all, I wish you love and contentment. That’s all.

[Via HuffPo]

He’s 49, she’s 22. What would you do if some dude 27 years older than you made a vlog about how he wanted to get you pregnant? Would you alert the authorities? Or would you just laugh it off as harmless? I do think it’s harmless, by the way. Like, Emma’s not in any danger, and Jim’s interest in her, while creepy, is inoffensive. I don’t know… I would probably take it as a compliment and just move on. Which is what Emma will probably do, I guess.

People on Dlisted said it was creepy and but people on Huffpo said it was a joke. My question is: Why is Jim making a joke like this? Like whats the point? Does he even know her? I am gonna go half and say it was probably a joke and only Jim finds it funny. I love the man I do but just reading the transcripts alone sent a chill down my spine. I guess if he knew her or something it wouldn’t be so creepy but it was so random.

@Love Angelina it’s just his sense of humor. I don’t even think this is about Emma Stone at all, he’s just making fun of himself, being an old man who needs more time to pee than he used to :-) He uses this clueless/borderline creepy type of humor in most of his films, remember The Cable Guy? Or Dumb and Dumber?

@KLO exactly. It’s just silly old Jim making fun of himself.

“He’s doing what many, many middle aged creeps do. He knows that pursuing a woman half his age is pervy and he fears rejection and ridicule. So he approaches his prey in an ambiguous way (jokey video) so, if she does reject him, he can pull back and say, “I was only kidding. The part that worried me the most (and tipped my concern-troll) was where he mouths “I love you. I do.” at the very end and then his chin starts quivering like he’s crying. That’s not in the transcript. You have to watch the whole thing for that creepiness. Either it’s so over the top that I should know better than to take this seriously or the rumors about him possibly being bi-polar are really true. In which case I’m much worried for him than I am for her. I truly hope he’s ok.
Or maybe they have the same agent! And this was a set-up to give Emma Stone and her new movies a major PR boost. Because even though she’s starring in all these movies, very few people know who she is. If it was planned, it went awry. It’s way to creepy to be funny.

Something tells me this is a joke. I don’t really understand why people are now just asking if Jim Carrey is slightly unhinged. Of course he is! There is no way you can be that good at physical comedy and not be a little unhinged! I remember when I was younger thinking his Ace Ventura movies were the weirdest things ever and didn’t understand why people liked them (I like some of his other movies). But this is definitely a joke–a creepy one maybe, but a joke.

I dont know about this – does he know her – have they actually met? Why do this so that the whole world can see it? This seems creepy and unbalanced (mentally speaking) to me.

It seems to me that there is a chance he is obsessed by her and could be stalking her.

Go ahead boo me and throw stones at me but I know that stalking occurs far more often than we would like to think and that it starts out as an innocent attraction and escalates to a dangerous level and that there is little protection available to the person being stalked.

If I were Emma Stone, I would have the police on speed dial.

@ Mimi and anyone else who believes in Dr Wakefield. He is wrong, absolutely. He was trying to develop a VACCINE while trying to get everyone to stop taking all the others.

    BUT

Even if he was right, and there is a minuscule chance of autism being caused by vaccines (which it is NOT – correlation does not equal causation ), the diseases we are protecting against with vaccines are horrendous and well worth the extremely tiny risk. Do you really want polio back, for one? And then you will talk about herd immunity. Well, herd immunity has already been breached in parts of the UK by people who think that way. And either way it is morally reprehensible to expect other parents to subject their children to risks but not your own so that you can rely on their immunizations in the “herd”.

    @Ann

ITA 100%. This is the “joke/performance art/of course I wasn’t actually serious/how could anyone be so stupid as to not recognize my very special comic genius—-unless of course you might be interested” approach to getting laid used by comedians since comedy began. Effectively reduces risk of rejection and humiliation.

Most male comics are fairly unattractive, fairly unpleasant, EXTREMELY unstable people. If they weren’t funny, they would get very little positive attention from anyone.
IMO Carrey was funny for about 10 seconds circa 1990. Other than that he has always been just a fugly, weird, boring, UNFUNNY creepster. He is re-channeling his Andy Kaufman performance here. Sucked when he first did it. Sucks now. Andy sucked too, except for about 6 seconds. However, since both humor and sexual attractiveness are about as subjective as things get, YMMV.

He’s 49. She’s 22, not (ALLEGEDLY!) 16. She can decide for herself if she’s interested.

Most 20 year old men wouldn’t feel “flattered” by the stalkery attention of a 50 year old woman. Why do you think women would feel differently?

    Hey Fancy,

Measles and mumps are hardly “horrendous” diseases. Big Pharma is loading multiple vaccines in one jab to save money. And vaccinating infants…yes INFANTS, against a sexually transmitted disease (hepatitus b) is morally reprehensible. As far as the herd nonsense…babies are not cattle. Individuals have the right to decide what to do with their own bodies. If had to guess, I would say you are either 1. a pediatrician, 2. pharma rep.3. related to either one.

But I think early 20s are significantly different than later 20s.Pushing 50 and going after a 22 year old, especially one who is no need of your financial support or connections and gets play from cool young dudes her own age….just give it up Carrey. At 22 I had a huge crush on a guy 20 years older than me, but felt so EXTREMELY weird about it, I couldn’t act on it. If he would have hit on me I’d have felt weird about it, even though I wanted him. The age difference was too much for me. I waited til I was in my early 30s when the difference didn’t matter to me anymore, and totally went for him and it totally worked and he’s the best partner I’ve ever had. Most young women may know and be flattered older men want us sexually, but we dont wanta hear about it from the horse’s mouth. It’s uncomfortable at best and intimidating and nasty at worst.

And at least if he would say this to Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie. But to young Emma? Call Benson and Stabler from SVU.

Seriously how would you feel if some 40-50 years old neighbor or coworker that you barely know would make such videotape to you or your 20 something daughter? You would get restraining order.

Now that was funny. And it had the tone. And everyone understands that it is a joke from the first seconds. And it even makes Jim Carrey video look even more creepier.

Re. “vaccinating infants against a sexually transmitted disease”- um, Hep B is spread via body fluids, but that does NOT mean it’s sexually transmitted. At all.

    @Ann
Your response to For Real was perfect. It hit the nail on the head for me: That most 22 yr old men would be creeped out by a 49 yr old woman sending them that video – and that the disturbing aspects of this would be clearer and magnified if the gender roles were switched. Remembering how it felt to be a 22 yr old woman when older men hit on me– yeah you’re right, it was never flattering! Just disturbing!

Creepy. Comedians are the most screwed up people and they often wrap the truth in their comedy. This idea came from some place. Carrey is bipolar and has depression issues.

Oh here is her response to the video

“When Emma Stone was asked by Fajita San Guacamole of Hollywood Innuendo to comment on what Jim Carrey had said she got a puzzled look on her face and remarked, “Jim Carrey? I thought he had retired and moved his old slapstick ass back to Canada years ago.”

Stone then grinned and said that if he is really serious about wanting to be with her then he can go ahead and write her a check for $75 million and she will sit down and give it some serious thought.”

i’m 22 years old and I don’t find it creepy at all. When Jim was my age he was damn hot AND HE IS FREAKING FUNNY!! maybe how close it is to his face is a little disturbing..and the peeing thing. If I were Emma I’d be flattered cuz Jim was a cutie pie back in his heyday

“then he can go ahead and write her a check for $75 million and she will sit down and give it some serious thought.”

I never thought I’d say this about her but what a bitch!!
