Seth Rogen got into shape to play Green Hornet in new movie

It’s not just women in Hollywood who are expected to drop weight for roles or to conform to a certain look. Men are held to certain standards for roles, too. For Seth Rogen, the curly haired, slightly chubby star of such movies as “Knocked Up” and “Pineapple Express,” this meant dropping the pounds to play a superhero- a role he most likely would never have been considered for based on his physical appearance prior to his movie success. Rogen explained how he got into shape in a recent interview.

What’s the skinny on Seth Rogen’s svelte new self?

“The lamest answer ever,” he said Friday on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show, “I exercised and I dieted.”

He added, “I personally do not care how I look or physically feel.”

She also digs his raunchy new Kevin Smith comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno (out Oct. 31).

“It’s a very romantic movie,” Rogen told Seacrest. “My girlfriend likes it and she hates porn.”

While filming, “I was around a lot of body parts…but I dealt with it very maturely,” he said. “It was a very good lesson in anatomy.

“I think I’ve been researching this movie since I was 11 1/2 years old,” he added. “That’s around when the research started.”

Rogen – who bared his bum in Knocked Up – said he doesn’t show much skin this time around.

The actor deadpanned, “I tried to give everyone a break with this one.”

[From Us Weekly]

I like Seth Rogen a lot – ever since I saw him in the short lived but excellent FOX show “Undeclared.” I actually can’t wait to see “Zack and Miri Make a Porno.” I’ve seen every Kevin Smith movie- even “Mallrats.” And Seth’s co-star in this movie, Elizabeth Banks, is one of my favorite new actresses. But when I heard that Seth would be taking on The Green Hornet, my first reaction was, “Huh??” I could not see him in the role at all. Even with the weight loss, I am scratching my head over this casting.

I agree thats a weird casting decision. seth acts best when he can be a character who is just a normal person-I dont see this translating well to a ‘persona’ or comic book hero type thing. weird. i love him and think he is a genius too. he used to write for da ali G show. very clever guy.

  2. vdantev says:

Another movie I’ll never watch now :(. There are so many better actors I can think of for the part- like Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortenson.

  3. Ron says:

Seth is a clever dude. Regarding the Hornet, everyone thought Micheal Keaton would suck as Batman, but that worked. And weight loss…everyone in Hollywood in fornt of the camera has to deal with weight issues. Men included. However, if Seth was a woman I doubt he would have been described as “slightly chubby”.

  4. RhymesWithSilver says:

I like how pre-slimdown Seth Rogan is described as “slightly chubby” while those chicks on “Dancing With The Stars” are getting called on their weight. Who are we kidding? Seth had a whole Cheryl Burke hanging off of him!

That said, I always thought he was a piece of ass.

His girlfriend’s dress is from Anthropologie.

  6. Diva says:

I love Seth Rogan. And I’m with Ron, people had the same reaction to Keaton playing Batman and he was the best one until Bale. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Mostly because, I love Seth Rogan 😆

MSat check out Freaks and Geeks, he’s SO good in that show too! Even better than Undeclared (which was sorta annoying for some reason…)!

  8. Kaiser says:

I don’t care for Rogen, but he does look better with some of the weight off. And that’s coming from a girl who likes guys with some meat on their bones.

You know who’s lost a lot of weight and looks incredible? SNL’s Horatio Sanz.

  9. Emily says:

wow he looks great!! I don’t understand why he’s complaining that he’s in shape. If anything, isn’t it healthier for him? And I’m sure his girlfriend is loving his new body!!

  10. lola lola says:

Skip the weight…it’s the haircut that makes him look good! That ole bowl of curls doesn’t do a thing for him but his new sleek cut is much more flattering.

P.s. and the stylist that got him out of that pit-stained Mr. Roger’s sweater is worth every penny!

  11. Christina says:

can’t they put some make up on this man’s pimples?!?!?!

  12. Simp says:

    Undeclared?!?

C’mon … Freaks and Geeks! Freaks and Geeks!

Of course it wasn’t a stretch for him, but he was perfect.

  13. kitty says:

whaaaa…. men aren’t supposed to wear makeup sweetheart. He’s funny, and dare i say sexy. thick or thin(er)totally love this guy and will check out his new flick.

  14. Jess says:

    He’s a cutie either way. 😀

  15. Buttercup says:

Wow, he almost looks attractive, keep the new look Seth, its working for you.

  16. Kristin says:

    Hell yeah Freaks and Geeks!!

But isn’t this story oldish? I remember reading about this a while ago.

The Green Hornet movie isn’t supposed to be the most serious super hero movie ever. Stephen Chow is directing, and also co-starring as the masked Asian manservant Kato. If Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow can’t make an awesome/hilarious subversion of the superhero genre, then I’ll be disillusioned and put my head down for a few minutes.

@vdantev, Hugh Jackman is already Wolverine, and Viggo Mortenson was already Aragorn…

  18. vdantev says:

I know the TV incarnation of The Green Hornet was kind of silly, but treated with some ingenuity, intelligence and respect it could be a really good action adventure film. I still see Seth as an attempt to create a ‘smart man’s’ version of Jack Black, not an action hero of any stripe.

  19. Ophelia says:

I love him! I liked him chubbier, I love people who really don’t care what they look like and are just funny. People like that are so much hotter when they can just act like themselves and don’t try to kill themselves to be “attractive”

i love seth rogan and i used think hes better when he just plays a lazy stoner like in knocked up or superbad or pineapple express but this film really versitile he can be.
