Stellan Skarsgard, 60, to have his eighth child with a woman his son’s age

Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard has been a busy man both professionally and otherwise. His second wife, 35 year-old Megan Everett, is pregnant with their second child together. They also have a son, Ossian, who turns 3 in April. Stellan has six children from his previous marriage, the oldest of whom is actor Alex Skarsgard, 35, of “True Blood” fame. So Stellan, 60, is married to a woman who is the same age as his oldest son and is about to welcome an eighth child at a time when most men his age are having grandchildren. This news is from the Swedish press and has not yet been picked up by US outlets that I can find.

I know Stellan from Good Will Hunting and he’s worked very steadily since. He appears in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, in which he plays a supporting role. I was looking through his interviews promoting Dragon Tattoo and he doesn’t give a lot of personal information and sticks to talking about his role and the film. He did share this story that I found touching and wanted to repeat. It doesn’t have a lot to do with his wife being pregnant, but I thought I may as well include it:

When asked what moment of his career stood out, Movie Fanatic got the most personal of answers. “There was something that changed my attitude towards a lot of things. I did a film called Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg. I played Wallenberg, who saved Jews in Hungary during World War II. We were shooting in the old ghetto there, night shoots, freezing cold. Out of the houses came all these Jews that had lived there and had met Wallenberg. They came up to me and touched me and cried. Suddenly, it became something different for me. I didn’t care if this became a good film. I don’t care if my performance is a good piece of art. The only thing that is important is that in some essence or way, what I do is true to those people and their lives,” Skarsgard said.

“The strange thing was what came out of that was I suddenly could do pure entertainment films because they were just as unimportant as the serious films to me. In a way, it made me more lighthearted in my approach. I was not so pretentious. Now I’m doing the dark stuff and the light stuff and I’m having a good life [laughs].”

[From Movie Fanatic]

That was a moving story. Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg came out in 1990 so more people who lived through the Halocaust would have been alive at that time.

Well I don’t know much about Stellan apart from slavishly following his very hot son, but he seems to keep his personal life on lockdown. Alex talked about that in a GQ interview last year, saying that we’re “never going to see a television show The Skarsgards.” He also joked that his dad was “over the hill.” He’s not too old to have more kids though apparently. So Alex will have a half brother that’s 35 years younger than he is. I’m sure that happens in a lot of families, but it still strikes me as strange.

Update: gratuitous Alex Skarsgard photos.

Three of his sons are over 30 but he doesn’t have any grandkids yet. Maybe the fertility skipped a generation.

And even though he would never admit it, it must be totally weird to have a step-mom the age as you.

    • Wendy says:

Let’s just hope he doesn’t marry an older woman. It would be even stranger for your son’s wife to be older than your own.

      • HadleyB says:

I hope he doesn’t marry someone 20 years younger either.. how about a normal 5 years either way?

  2. Jennifer says:

He’s a hot man still. I would do him, especially if my children would be as gorgeous as his.

  3. Toot says:

I remember him in Momma Mia. He’s been in a lot of movies.

  4. RobN says:

Love him. In the Dragon Tattoo, I’d have followed him home.

  5. Guest says:

Yes I get how these older hollywood actors can marry or date younger women, because they can. What I don’t get is why these younger women want to marry guys who have been divorced many times, have many children and in a few years will be going from changing their children’s diapers to changing their husbands diapers.

    • Ann says:

Because the pay is good? If you can still have a hot young piece on the side ….

    • LaSourisTeigneuse says:

      Exactly!!

    • HadleyB says:

It’s sooo disheartening to see such a big age difference .. yes yes it’s ok I generally don’t have a problem with it but a LARGE age difference?

Rarely is it true love .. I mean would he look at her. ask her out etc if she wasn’t pretty? didn’t have a good figure and would she say yes if he wasn’t a movie star?

When I see more of this in real life with normal salaries ( believe me I see it all over here with younger woman and rich men) then I know it’s true.

      • LittleDeadGrrl says:

Exactly. You never see it when the “pay” isn’t good. Atleast he has only had two wives. Still, they are both consenting adults and more power to them but if my father or mother did this I would be so angry and disgusted by it.

  6. Wendy says:

At least Stellan didn’t go for the fake blond, fake boobed bobblehead type.

  7. Mirella says:

I volunteer to have Alex’s babies.

    • Mirella says:

LOL!!! Oh yes, lots of hot sex :). He’s even more stunning in person. Swoon.

    • Mirella says:

Lol!! I worked in Stockholm a while back, and my family lives like 5 minutes from his family. It was awesome 🙂 I literally walked into him & I was so embarrassed, I was talking in Swedish & English, apologizing & cursing at myself, & he laughed out loud at me. it kind of became a joke each time I saw him after that.

    • Mirella says:

Oh, he is so sweet. I laughed right along with him, it was either that or cry. I fell in love when he looked down and asked if I was alright, and really looked concerned. I swooned, and heard my ovaries explode. 🙂

    • Mirella says:

      I know! He’s just so…unf!

  8. Laura says:

I don’t know about other relationships, but speaking on the Skarsgards (as I’m a fan of all the actors) they seem content to be just one giant oddball family. Stellan’s ex-wife has said she even babysits for them occasionally and they go on vacations together.

  9. Rachel says:

What is up with her in those super short dresses??? I hope she lengthens her hemlines now that she’s pregnant. We don’t really need to see if the baby’s crowning.

  10. lucy2 says:

He’s a good actor. Eight kids though!? What is he, a secret Duggar?
The age difference thing is too much for me. I’m 35, I can’t imagine dating someone 60, let alone marrying and having kids with. I guess it works for them, and at least by 35 you’re an adult with some life experience, but still.

  11. Mono B. says:

Even though I know that he is physically attractive, he looks so much like a person I used to date, that I can’t join in the boning bandwagon. *Sigh*

  12. Euphorima says:

What happened to his first wife??

  13. Angi says:

    Alex looks like his dad.

  14. Jules says:

The new wife looks older than 35, especially in that last shot.

  15. Samigirl says:

I *finally* saw Straw Dogs, and my husband called me a freak for drooling over him when he was the “bad guy,” and a rapist.

    He’s so pretty.

    • cr says:

He was pretty hot in the siege scene as well. I kept telling myself “Charlie is a rapist and he’s intent on killing David and Amy and Jeremy, he’s not attractive” But he was.

  16. Samigirl says:

Holy Cannoli. Good eye, sister. Preggo hormones have me running a little hot as is, so that certainly doesn’t help!

  17. sal says:

I read that she had an alcohol problem, she did an interview about it on a Swedish tv show. But now she helps run a rehab center.

    • MarilynM says:

First wife (Alex’s mom) was a severe alcoholic for years. Stellan stayed in the marriage despite it. Per first wife, it was not till everyone, husband and kids, totally gave up on her that she got sober. She works for a rehab center now, and talks publically about her alcoholism. She, Stellan and new wife all supposedly get along, do holidays together as whole family. I suspect 2nd wife just wants a same-age sibling for her own child, as many woman would. Seems they are all happy and healthy now.

      • Gwen says:

She’s a pretty awesome and most of all brave lady for talking so honestly about her experience IMO 🙂

  18. daisy says:

he was funny in mamma mia

  19. sal says:

His ex-wife had a problem I mean. I was trying to reply to Euphorima but it didn’t let me for some reason, hmm

  20. Petunia says:

Geez, he looks amazing for 60. Wow.

But would you really want to have a child at 60? Wouldn’t it be exhausting? And you’d be attending their high school graduation as a 78 year old. Wouldn’t that be a little strange? The reason I ask is because my dad’s father was way older than the average father, although nowhere near as old as this, and it always bothered my father terribly. He said he felt like he had an old man as a father.

Oh well. Pointless questions. Baby is on the way and baby looks like it is wanted and loved. Stupid to nitpick on anything else as those are the most important things in any child’s life.

    • Granger says:

My mom’s dad was 51 when she was born and she felt the same as your dad: That her dad was always an OLD MAN. She loved him dearly but he didn’t have even half the energy or patience a younger man would.

Having said that, Skarsgard has money. Money means nannies, cooks, and personal assistants (if you want them), which means more time and energy to be a dad, even at age 60. And we also live in an age where, let’s face it, people just aren’t as OLD as they used to be. If he exercises and eats well, Skarsgard’s probably in great shape. My grandfather had lived through a war, smoked like a chimney, and never exercised. Times have changed.

    • lisa says:

Men need to get over this myth that they can have children at any age without health repercussions for their children. THEY CAN’T. He is putting his child at great risk for any number of diseases and it’s supposed to prove he’s virile or something.

      • Ann says:

Exactly. It’s irresponsible. Plus, he’s saddling a young child with the death of his/her father and/or senility when the child is still very young.

      • Remote Control says:

So many other things in the world so be so opinionated about. Ugh..

  21. dorothy says:

    Love him.

  22. Euphorima says:

    WOW!!!

  23. Michelle says:

It actually does feel really strange to have half-siblings that young. My husband is 25, and his dad/step-mother just popped out a set of twins this last October. And they appear to have no plans of stopping anytime soon. It just… Weirds us both out, frankly. I know that some people (less neurotic people, probably) can totally handle it without blinking an eye, but I can’t stop running numbers: They’ll be 18 and finishing high school when we’re 43 and 40.

  24. Lila says:

Eh, usually I don’t care that much about age differences…but I do have an exception when it comes to people being with someone the same age as their child! If he didn’t have a child that was 35, I’d be a little less freaked out.

  25. Jen34 says:

Alex says he grew up in a very bohemian environment. I guess his dad doesn’t care about age differences or birth control. I won’t judge.

  26. Insertrandomname says:

My parents were both over 40 when they had me and just that bothers me. It sucks knowing most my friends parents are 40 and mine are in their 60’s with health problems and all that stuff. I love them very much and I’m lucky to have such great parents but still.

I feel bad for this poor baby- he might lose his father very early on and even if he doesn’t it won’t be the same as having a young, healthy and energetic dad when he’s growing up.

    • dilettante says:

I think we’re just lucky to be loved for however long we or our parents are here on earth. You may end up having more shared years with your parents than your friends with younger parents. You just never know — we could be here another day, year, or 30 years.

  27. Bri says:

It would be amusing to compare a picture of this new kid and its dad to this one of Stellan and Alex as a baby (oh the 70s) http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/EXID14380/images/Stellan_Skarsgard_with_baby_Alexander.jpg

    • really says:

Alex in the onesie!!!!!OH MY hottie.

    • rufustfirefly says:

Okay, I stand corrected on my previous statement about the “cutest thing ever.” Teacup Alex is the cutest thing ever, hands down! Dying from the adorableness over here!

  28. KsGirl says:

    Would. Father and son.

Not at the same time, pervs!

  29. Maria says:

wooo his son is gorgeous :p

  30. Girl says:

Uh yeah. That is pretty impressive. And even funnier considering he’s also wearing a cap and gown. That sucker looks like it could do some damage though. Damn.

  31. Gwen says:

Love both Stellan and Alex. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this case 😀

I’m pretty sure Megan is 38 or 39 though. Still closer to Alex obviously.

  32. really says:

Son gorgeous, daddy gorgeous + a rollin stone! Stellan is so stellar!

  33. rufustfirefly says:

I love how close this family is. We may never see a Skarsgård reality show, but listening to Alex tell a few family stories on Jimmy Fallon was about the cutest thing ever! Of course, admiring their obvious genetic blessings is no great hardship either. Thanks for the gratuitous Alex pics and congrats to Stellan and his wife! *sighs*

  34. MaiGirl says:

Exactly. A college student that works for me just lost her dad at 19 because he is 26 years older than her mother, and he was in poor health for most of her life, despite looking young and healthy for his age (he was 68 when he died). She is totally devastated. I’m sorry, Stellan looks good, but having kids at 60 isn’t fair to the kids. The odds of having unhealthy or dead parents way too young are too great.

  35. Samgirl says:

He was sooooo almost naked. It was a lovely sight, except for the fact that it was a rape scene. The man revs my engine, that’s for sure.

  36. Camille says:

    Yikes.

Thank you for the lovely Alex pics CB 😀

  37. GiGi says:

    I can’t believe I’m going to say this… but…

I’m 33 and, to me, Stellan is the hottest Skarsgard. You don’t mess with the original. He has that very relaxed, underlying sexiness. You know, where the man is doing something ordinary, like eating an apple and it’s like the most incredible thing you’ve ever seen. Whew… is it getting hot in here?

  38. Rachel says:

Mmm, so true. I came for the article, but I stayed for the pics!

  39. Lotta Sweden says:

Stellan was married to his ex-wife for a long time, it must have been atleast 20-30 years. I think they meet when they were really young. Their relationship broke down mainly because of her alcoholism, after having been supportive for years. She is now sober and I believe they are still good friends.

  40. Lolaluvsu2 says:

Agree with toy Gigi. Love me some Stellan but woozers…that cap and gown pic. Tempting…..

  41. UKHels says:

hey, some Skarsdong cool aid after a far too long drought – where you hiding you massive hunk of blond hotness?

  42. Dani says:

    His wife favors Ginnifer Goodwin.

It must be something to have a sibling that much younger than you.

  43. HadleyB says:

I hate how it’s ok for a man to have kids until he’s 70..just because you can doesn’t mean you should.. old sperm is old sperm.

While I am ok with everyone having kids until 45?ish.. even women .. I mean sometimes life doesn’t work out like you planned or hoped and dislike that women should have kids by 35 or never. But this is too old.. 60? … no too old.

  44. ds says:

I sooo agree with your choice. I’m typing on my phone now so I can’t put the link, but there’s a video on youtube of younger Stellan cooking for the family. He’s just got that charm. Hr did an amazing job playing Wallenberg, and he visits festivals where that film is shown, anytime he can since he’s really fond of it. My fav actor, what can I say

  45. MST says:

Meh — those Nordic types don’t do anything for me. Give me a man with some COLOR and we can talk.

  46. Karin says:

Gotta have guts to “burden” a relationship with a man old enough to be your father. Wonder the amount in common they´ve got to talk about… if they ever do talk at all. Therapy please woman, while you still get the chance!

    • Julianna says:

She’s 35! I’m sure they have plenty to talk about. I am 32 and can talk with anyone. Stop being so ageist.

If they are both educated I don’t see the problem. Plenty to talk about.

  47. liv says:

i’m in my twenties and i have a friend of a friend (who is also in his twenties) whose dad is the same age as my grandpa – 88. i always thought it was kinda weird.

  48. EllaAnne says:

“You never see it when the “pay” isn’t good.”
That’s not true at ALL. Daddy issues have no economic restraints. My moms 2nd husband was an abusive alcoholic 20 years older than her, and I’ve had serious relationships with men older than her. ( we were welfare poor, fwiw.)It’s really common for a young girl to think being with a much older man will offer more stability than the teenage idiot dropouts she has to chosoe from. And, statistically, a great many very young poor girls wind up getting pregnant by men 10+ years older than them.
And I’d take the dad before the son, just because I might break skinny little Alex in half.

    • Funnylilou says:

Statistically these girls represent between 3% and 5% so it’s not really a “great” deal, plus surveys also underline that the more educated you are and the closer the age gap with your significant other is (2.5/3 years) so these kind of relationships are not common at all amongst girls only a very tiny specific demographic fall into it.

    • Julianna says:

I agree. I go out with older men who are my parents age. I wish people wouldn’t be so judgmental. It’s hurtful.

  49. Sarah says:

So much for ‘When an older woman dates a younger man people are disgusted, yet no one bats an eyelid when an older man dates a younger woman'(I see that quote on literally every cougar story). She’s 35! It’s not as if she’s a young woman.

    • Funnylilou says:

yes she is a young woman! 35 is young, and as she is the same age as his son it is very very young, well not matter what it is way younger than 60…ickkkkk!! the awful thought of seeing a 25 yrs older man nekkid…creeps!
Would you find it as appropriate if Alex Saarsgard was dating Diane Keaton???

      • Funnylilou says:

and so we can also say that Asston Kutcher is not a young man either right? so no age issue on the demi moore story either right?

God what treasures of hypocrisy are deployed in order to ensure the double standard keep going!

      • Sarah says:

You appear to have misunderstood my post. What I’m saying is that people are as disgusted by young women dating older men as they are older women dating younger men. There is no double standard.

      • Remote Control says:

It’s weird that people are disgusted by a relationship. I guess I’m not that passionate about other people’s love lives. Not enough to be disgusted..

    • LEX says:

He’s old enough to be her father, so, yes, she’s very young.

  50. Funnylilou says:

@Sarah: sorry my mistake then!I got too passionate about gender equality sometimes ;D!

  51. skuddles says:

Okay I have no idea who this guy is but I have decided his new name is Stellan “the sperm” Skarsgard.

    • LEX says:

Do you live under a rock? Have you not seen Good Will Hunting? Any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies?

Surely you’ve heard of True Blood?
