Should I discuss my absence yesterday? Late Sunday night, my body went into some kind of disgusting revolt – CB thinks I have food poisoning, I think I have some nasty stomach flu that’s been going around. Whatever is going on in my stomach, I feel like ten kinds of hell.
There isn’t a great segue from my stomach problems to Vanessa Paradis’s marriage problems, but here goes. Last night, Vanessa walked the red carpet solo for her new film Café de Flore. I’m assuming that we’re supposed to think that Vanessa going solo is a sure sign that she and Johnny Depp are definitely over, but throughout their relationship, they’ve often done premieres and stuff solo. That being said, I do think they’re over.
Vanessa Paradis attended the Paris premiere of her new film, Café de Flore, on Monday, marking her first official public appearance since PEOPLE’s report that she and longtime partner Johnny Depp are living separate lives.
The actress, 39, breezed past photographers on the red carpet, pausing only once to pose with Marin Gerrier – the young actor who plays her son in the movie – and the film’s director, Jean-Marc Vallée.
“She had the air she always does – polite, smiling saying hello to everyone inside,” says French TV reporter Christophe Beaugrand. But reporters were explicitly told that no personal questions were allowed.
She sported a black tuxedo jacket, a flowing black tie, rust-colored leather pants and four-inch heels for the event.
Paradis seemed happy to be in Paris and was accompanied by her sister Alysson at the premiere, 5,000 miles away from Depp, who was last spotted in Los Angeles Thursday.
Last week, she was photographed shopping in the French city.
Paradis left the premiere early and briefly signed autographs for fans outside the UGC Danton theater, before heading to the afterparty at the nearby Chez Castel nightclub.

I will say this – Vanessa looks really beautiful in these photos. She looks sort of like… Eva Green…? And Johnny might have been fooling around with Eva Green too – what does it all mean?

I don’t think she looks anything like the – also beautiful – Eva Green, but that’s just me.
Frankly, if she and Johnny are done, I don’t think Eva Green is his type. I see him more with young models and aspiring actresses.
Also, I think any split is a lot more two sided than a lot of people are making out. Even if she didn’t put him out, I suspect it was mutual.

I also don’t get the Eva Green comparison – they both have striking eyes I guess but that’s about it. She’s beautiful in that birdlike French way, I love her smile it’s totally unique. I’m always a Johnny fan but hope he doesn’t replace her with some Hollywood trash.

Wait, now all of a sudden people are going to start paying attention to Paradis just because she is without a MAN and we’re supposed to judge how that makes her feel? Not with Paradis, sorry I can’t. Yes, because it is imperative that we correct all imperfections surgically or otherwise.
It’s funny how we tell little girls as they aregrowing up to love themselves the way they are and that they are fine and beautiful the way they are. But…once you are an adult, you are OBLIGATED to “correct” aspects of your physical self, so people on the internet will be nicer to you.

Personally, I love the gap in her teeth. One of my favorites movies, The Woman on the Bridge stars V.P., and she is not only stunning (and that gap works for her, which you can see when she is in motion rather than a photo), but incredibly talented.
I can’t believe (well, I can, of course) people will pick at her for having a gap between her teeth, and judge her as a person based on that (yeah, they do…don’t act like they don’t).

Matie, you are dead on right. “Unconventially pretty” = Code word for UGLY. In all fairness, she looks like she’s been through some sorrow in her life, but she is definitely not aging well…haggard almost to the point of meth face. Things like gap teeth, moles, and grey forelocks might be considered marks against beauty, but its more complex than that. The reason certain people are drawn to such things is because in nature, those things set animals apart from the other, signify new genes and therefore more viable, healthy offspring.
Actually it goes a bit deeper than that. People are attracted to things that are the same. By that I mean the more a collection of faces are merged together, the more people tended to like them. It’s the same mentality that keeps members of a herd safe as they swarm around prey. Superficial markers that members of a herd recognize amongst themselves tend to cause excitement. Vanessa has the classic markers of what people generally consider attractive. Large eyes, clear skin, the facial proportions of someone with a lot of estrogen in her system.
Aside from that, I notice her face is remarkably symmetrical. The reason people might be attracted to symmetry is controversial– some think our brains react to it by wiring, or that it signifies greater health, less gene-cell breakdown.

The gap in her teeth is like Cindy Crawford’s mole. It softened and detracted from her unsusually symmetrical face. If Crawford or Vanessa didn’t have their superficial markers, we probably wouldn’t talk about either of them at all.
So in a clinical sense I guess Vanessa might be beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the universal markers of beauty (health, symmetry, waist-hip-ratio) are there. I think the bulk of her beauty is in her gaze. She has a feminine enough face to pull off the masculine smoulder that she whips out every so often. There’s a disconnect there that’s interesting (imho)

Loved her in “Girl on the Bridge” and I think she’s lovely and alluring. Sorry to hear of troubles with Depp. She seems very grounded, not about getting maximum public exposure, takes care of her kids & doesn’t use them for her own public exposure.
And yes, there’s always a flaw in perfection or symmetry in order to escalate to “beauty”. We see lots of so-called perfect faces which are indistinguishable from other ones & hence quite forgettable.
Lauren Hutton has a gap, and many other famed beauties are technically flawed. Sophia Loren(nose), Charlotte Rampling(eyes), Grace Kelly (jaw). Newer “stars” have plastic surgery to correct their perceived flaws, most often noses. Alterations have become far more common in the last 10-15 years.

Vanessa Paradis appeared on the French TV show “Le Grand Journal” today, Jan. 24, 2012, and was asked about this. After giving a similar answer as last night on the red carpet, the interviewer asked her point blank if she would say outright whether the rumor was true or false so it could be put to rest entirely, her answer in French was “Bien sûr, que la rumeur est fausse” (English: “Of course the rumor is false.”). Question answered.

I like Vanessa. Saw her in a French interview once and she came off very well, very nice and authentic as a woman and actress. I think she and Depp probably had a good relationship all of those years until it ran its course. Listen, Depp is an unusual man with qwerky habits. I don’t see him with just anyone. I think he and Vanessa worked together, but I’m not sure that he would easily work so well with someone else given his very off-beat personality.
