Kobe Bryant gave wife he’s divorcing ‘a car or a very expensive necklace’ for V-Day

Kobe and Vanessa at the 2009 ESPYs

This news came out yesterday, but it’s a slow Thursday and I still want to talk about it. Kobe Bryant and the wife he’s divorcing after 10 years, Vanessa, were seen kissing courtside at his LA Lakers basketball game on Valentine’s Day. (More photos are here.) This leads to inevitable reconciliation talk despite the fact that Vanessa has already filed for divorce and the property settlement has already been finalized. Vanessa got a whopping $75 million, basically half of Kobe’s earnings, plus all three of their massive estates, but their divorce is not finished yet and could be potentially be withdrawn. Kobe may have sweet talked her into forgiving him for his serial cheating, yet again, by not only making sure his ex would be a very wealthy woman but by resorting to his old tricks of sweet talking her and giving her very expensive gifts. Here’s more:

Another come-from-behind victory for Kobe Bryant … sucking face with the woman who has now taken all of his homes, Vanessa Bryant … and now TMZ can confirm the two are working on a reconciliation.

Vanessa showed up for the Lakers Valentine’s Day victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The two shared a kiss in the tunnel on the way into the locker room.

TMZ broke the story … Vanessa filed for divorce in December, and they have already sealed the property settlement deal in which Vanessa got all 3 Newport Beach estates.

But sources told us at the time Vanessa filed … don’t be surprised if she goes back to Bryant.

And, although Kobe and Vanessa have submitted all the necessary docs to divorce, it doesn’t become final until mid-June, so there’s plenty of time to withdraw the papers.

FYI — we’re told Kobe and Vanessa are NOT living with each other … yet.

[From TMZ]

The stuff about the expensive “take me back” gift that Kobe gave Vanessa is from TMZ TV. They remind us that Vanessa got that whopping $4 million ring after Kobe was accused of sexual assault in 2003. This time, after filing for divorce, she gets half his earnings, all their estates, and according to Basketball Wives sources quoted by TMZ, she also got “a car or a very expensive necklace” for Valentines Day. So is that enough for Vanessa and can Kobe keep it in his pants for a few months? After that they’ll probably settle into old routines and he’ll get the itch again. I’m sure that same scenario plays out with other philandering husbands whose wives put up with it for much meager perks.

I can’t believe you didn’t comment on her nipples! Why are her nipples so exposed?! Is that a thing now? I hope not…

  2. Capella says:

She should take his cheating ass to the cleaners, even after taking his cheating married ass to the cleaners.

    But boy, are they pathetic.

What he hopes to accomplish, I don’t know. Maybe they are very much into a co-dependent psychologically abusive relationship. But wish one of them is thinking of the kids. This kind of behavior is sending the daughters some extremely mixed messages. Don’t think that guy will stop cheating. Ever. So the ex-wife needs to deal with it accordingly: Either you accept openly his cheating, or move the eff on.

  3. Kim says:

He cheats, he buys her something expensive and she “forgets” the cheating.

He is gross & she is a classless, gold digger. They are perfect for each other!

Lets please not even talk about that dress and her boobs. With all her money she should get a stylist. She always dresses like a cheap, hooker.

    • Brigitte says:

Cosign on the hooker dress habit! She has the worst taste ever. She dresses the kids like ragamuffins too. What is she doing with all that money anyway?

    • nobodystan says:

“He is gross & she is a classless, gold digger.”
Yep, I can’t stand him and she’s just as bad as Elin “I’ll stay for $5 million” Woods. It’s called a prenup, people. Get some.

  4. Roma says:

The ring wasn’t just for cheating – it was for being charged with sexual assault.

That whole incident has never sat well with me.

    • Delta Juliet says:

Yeah, that’s how I remembered it. And I thought, “if a ring is good enough to forgive a sexual assault, I’m sure a necklace is good enough to forgive straight up cheating”

    • Celebitchy says:

That’s true, I’ll add that and am sorry for not putting it in there.

      • Roma says:

Thanks for adding it! People forget that while the charges were dropped because the accuser no longer wanted to testify (after being incredibly harassed), Kobe released a statement admitting that while HE thought it was consensual, he agreed that SHE did not.

      • TheOriginalVictoria says:

The ring was for cheating and scandal not for sexual assault as Kobe maintained and a lot of evidence points to the fact that it was consensual. The courts also did not find fault.

Now we can speculate on whether it’s true or all we want (and you better believe I think that chick lied FOR SO MANY REASONS) but whether you like it or not he was found not guilty and so if you have any respect for fair “journalism,” you will not put down what you feel happened as opposed to what the final outcome was.

It’s not right CB and it disgusts me.

      • Celebitchy says:

Here’s what I’ll do, I’ll put “alleged” before assault. Hopefully that will be accurate and will be enough for both sides. I’m heading out now so if you don’t agree with this change I will not see it for some time.

-Update: I see that I wrote he “was accused of sexual assault” in the article, which was an edit after requests above but prior to what Victoria wrote. This is technically accurate and I don’t think it’s in any way disgusting or taking sides. It’s true he was accused of sexual assault. I also linked to the Wiki article on it so people can read the full details on that case. In no way did I take sides with that line, and I’m outta here now for a while.

      • Roma says:

@TheOriginalVictoria: Actually he was not found “not guilty”, the charges were dismissed before trial due to the fact that the accuser wouldn’t testify.

And she wouldn’t testify after personal details attacking her credibility were leaked to the media, after she received hate mail threatening to kill her, basically after she was slut-shammed to be silent.

        And from Kobe’s own mouth:
“I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”

      • TheOriginalVictoria says:

I see that now and I stand corrected on both matters.

  5. mln76 says:

She’s a horrible person. He’s a horrible person. She’s to dumb to leave his ass and take the half that she earned by standing by him during the rape trial. He was too dumb to have her sign a Pre-Nup. They deserve each other.

  6. Heather M (Heather) says:

Vanessa is a gorgeous woman, but that cut out dress could be the least flattering dress I have EVER seen on anyone. I know she has a reputation for being hated by everyone who knows her, and apparently that includes her stylist.

  7. MariPily says:

Maybe he’s a sex addict? And she’s willing to work with him on it, just like some wives will work with an alcoholic husband or a gambling husband, or some other mental illness.

  8. Rita says:

Finalize the divorce, take the money, bone the hot guys you want, and then reconcile so you can stay in the game but make sure you have an iron clad prenup. God bless America!

  9. nikzilla37 says:

If she goes back to him, she is exactly like all those other money-grubbing basketball wives.

  10. Michelle says:

Her areola’s are all out in the open in that dress. She might as well have been wearing pasties.

    • Jess says:

I don’t think those are areolas. She’s wearing a shiny dress and the light reflected on her boobs. They’re too light to be areolas anyway. You can see the light shimmering on her boobs.

  11. sassenach says:

Vanessa is a horrible, well documented abusive person. It is not Kobe that she misses, it’s the status. She misses being the #1 basketball wife yelling and screaming at every reporter in sight. Having the money isn’t enough when she has no where to flaunt it. If they get back together again, then she will divorce him again when his career is over because he would have served his purpose.

    • mel2 says:

I totally agree with you 100% although Kobe will probably have a post NBA career with ESPN or TNT…no it’s not as lucrative as a NBA player but it keeps him in the spotlight.

  12. the original bellaluna says:

She must really hate her boobs to treat them like that. Maybe she was having a “bad boob” day.

I thought I’d heard some rumblings about a possible reconciliation between them, but since I don’t really like either of them, whatever.

They’ll get what they deserve for the choices they’ve made and continue to make.

  13. TheOriginalVictoria says:

Vanessa is not a victim. She is a gold digger. This was ultimately her plan all along. Do you think she thought she was going to be able to keep Kobe faithful now matter how pretty and exotic she was?

She knew who Kobe was and was counting on the fact that he would do exactly as the majority of ballers do. She isn’t special. She isn’t even drop dead gorgeous. She is your typical slightly more than pretty basic bitch.

  14. sassy says:

this may sound harsh, but she dresses like a whore, and takes his money like one too. “I’ll look away from anything you do as long as you pay me”. YOU KNOW she wouldn’t put up with this shit if he were just a regular guy and made regular money…

  15. Tracy says:

she certainly seems very comfortable with her body.

  16. sallyreo says:

The woman is not attractive, she is fat,
she does not know how to dress, where is
she going without him. She’ll stay with
him because at least with him, she is Mrs. Koby Bryant. She is somebody. In other countries, the women stay with their rich husbands just for the status.
They even know who their mistresses are.
The term is that the husband has a “casa chica”. He has a big house for the wife and a “casa chica” for the mistress.

  17. osarieme says:

Wow. This is sad and disgusting on all levels. They both have serious issues and feed off each other. A miserable circle that will never be broken.

  18. Shannon says:

I hope they at least pretend they’re not morally bankrupt in front of their kids.

  19. Tiffany says:

Let’s see….charm your soon to be ex-wife with a necklace at around $100, 000 and a car for about another $100,000. Sweet talk her with 200k or let her walk away with 75 million. Yeah, smart play Kobe, smart play.

  20. Assistantrachel says:

    Vomit. That is all.

  21. Good content, I must say i look ahead to up-dates of your stuff.

  22. benny says:

Judging from her dress, she seems like a trashy woman. Maybe it’s not just the money but being able to be in the spotlight, rub elbows with famous people, and act like a bitch to everyone around you and get away with it that she enjoys. She wouldn’t have any of that if she goes through with the divorce. Sure, she’ll have money, but not the other perks. Maybe that will make her stay. If so, she really does not deserve an ounce of respect because she doesn’t have an ounce of self-respect.
