Nicole Kidman to play transsexual married to Charlize Theron

Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron are set to star in what sounds like a fascinating film about a married artist couple in the 1920s. The husband, played by Kidman, eventually becomes a transsexual. The film is called “The Danish Girl” and it’s based on writer David Ebershoff’s bestselling fictionalized book about real life artists Einar and Greta Wegener.

Nicole Kidman as the world’s first post-op transsexual, married to Charlize Theron? You betcha. The Australian actress will star in and produce “The Danish Girl,” based on the true story of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener. Their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar (Kidman) stood in for a female model that Greta (Theron) was set to paint.

When their portraits become wildly popular in 1920s Copenhagen, Greta encouraged her husband to adopt the female guise. What began as a harmless game led Einer to a metamorphosis and landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world and threatened their love.

Anand Tucker (“Shopgirl”) is attached to direct the feature, adapted by writer Lucinda Coxon (“Wild Target”) from David Ebershoff’s 2000 Viking bestseller. His debut novel of the same name is a fictionalized account of the Wegeners’ true story.

Pre-production has begun on the indie film, but no details on a principal photography start date have been disclosed. Both Kidman and Theron earned their best actress Oscars playing lesbian characters, in “The Hours” and “Monster,” respectively. Additionally, Kidman is attached to play Dusty Springfield in a biopic about the bisexual English singer.

I wouldn’t really have thought of it this way unless the article had pointed it out, but both Kidman and Theron have lesbian acting experience. I wonder if that was some kind of requirement for the roles. The movie sounds so interesting that I’m definitely tempted to pick up the book. Both Kidman and Theron put everything into their films so it’s almost guaranteed to be good. It’ll be most interesting because it deals with early transsexuals and surgery – not something we hear a whole lot about. I’m definitely curious about the project and excited to see how it comes out.

I think Charlize is the more manly of the pair, especially after seeing her in Monster as serial killer Eileen Wurnos.

Wouldn’t a man in the role be more convincing. Then he would look like a real transexual, surely (dressed as a woman, I mean)

Oh this too easy, way too easy, it HAS to be a set up, but here goes:

well after what she’s done to her face she already NATURALLY looks like a post op transexual. Not much acting or make up required there – mouwhahahaha!! -lol-

    HAD to say it!

I really like Nicole. So this has nothing to do with her but rather whoever made the casting decision.

I feel they should have cast a real transsexual to play the role. For example, Candis Cayne.
