Agent Bedhead pointed out something very odd/interesting to me the other day. She noticed that when I used George Clooney as the “host” of the Golden Globes Open Post, Clooney won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama that night, and when I used Uggie the Dog and Jean Dujardin as “hosts” of our Screen Actors Guild Open Post, Dujardin won Best Actor. So Bedhead suggested that I use Brad Pitt for the host of the Oscars Open Post, in case my choices are somehow becoming the harbingers for actual awards victories.
How much would you love it if Brad won Best Actor? Even his detractors have to admit it – it would be a MAJOR gossip story. We could spin stories about his victory for weeks, and even months. We could analyze Brad and Angelina’s body language when his name is called. Would Angelina cry? Would Brad? Would he tearfully name every one of the Jolie-Pitt children? Sigh… I wish it would happen. I don’t think that it will, but I would like it so, so much.
So this is your open post for the Oscars. You can wager and gossip amongst yourselves, and Celebitchy, Bedhead and I will be joining you with comments and updates as they happen. Note: we’ll have breaking-news coverage if something major happens on the red carpet, and for all of the major categories (Supporting Actor & Actress, Lead Actor, etc.). I already know that Angelina is due to present Best Adapted Screenplay – which should be HOURS from now (very late into the evening).
Ugh, I don’t even want to think about how boring Billy Crystal is going to be as host. He’s going to soothe the old folks (re: “The Academy”) into a deep twilight sleep.

I haven’t really been following the award season, but I think it’s because the other nominees all won something in other award circuits. Dujardin and Clooney, for sure. Although I’m not sure about Oldman, and Bichir is much lower profile than the other actors in the category (I’ve actually never heard of him before this year). Don’t take it to heart.

Even *I* agree he deserved it for 12 Monkeys or Fight Club. I also thought Tom Cruise deserved it way back when for Born on the Fourth of July …
BUT (and this is a big *BUT*)….
Hollywood hates young men as much as it hates older women. The youngest man to win a Best Actor is Adrien Brody and he’s almost as old as I am and he won what 10 years ago? This year’s Best Actor category was reasonably young. Only Clooney was over 50. The Supporting Actor category was ancient.

Brad Pitt SHOULD have won Oscars for his roles in Snatch and Fight Club~movies that BOTH still stand the test of time. But I’m biased~I think the man is sexy as all get out, whatever age~and utterly believeable in the roles he plays. Legends of the Fall, anyone else?!

You mentioned some good movies. I thought he should’ve been nominated for a supporting role in Burn After Reading. He was so funny. He was also good in Babel and Assassination of Jesse James. He doesn’t get credit for being a good actor. Gary Oldham doesn’t either.

when I saw legends of the fall tristian came riding up on his horse in the beginning of the movie I let out a whoop in the theater it caught even myself off guard! when he was crying over not being able to save samuel how sad was that oh & in river runs thru it he was in the car & that beautiful Montana sunset behind him “freeze-frame” fav line -”3 more years n’ I can think like a fish”

It’ll be an upset if anyone but Dujardin wins, I think. Although it’s possible Clooney might take it home just because he’s more well known and liked by the voters… I hope not though. Melissa McCarthy looked um… better than usual? At least she wore a nice colored tent. Seriously and I say this as a size 14-16 so I know my blubber and my curves (I have both), she is NOT comfortable with her body at all. It was a pretty dress. The color was flattering unlike the off black tents she wore to the other awards shows. BUT it looked one size too big and she was wearing the wrong bra. In this dress you can tell she does have curves. She has or can be turned into an hourglass but she had on a low cut dress and the girls were not perky, the girls were not in cleavage position. The girls lost a chance at fame. Sherri Shepherd (sp) wore a similar dress in blue… now SHE knows how to rock the girls.

I think The Artist sticks out for me the most because I just watched it this afternoon and it was so different and not what I expected that I felt like I was part of another world. Whereas I watched Moneyball long ago so it isn’t as fresh in my memory.
But however much I want to hate on Brad Pitt, he deserves an Oscar sometime on his career.

I thought the opposite: silent would be harder. No one is trained in that art anymore except maybe mimes. Perhaps that is why they had French actors? Or was it a French film filmed in LA and then bought by Weinstien?

I loved Pitt in the 90s. He kind of lost me around Aniston. Why someone so dumb and bland? He finished losing me after Angelina… if she is a homewrecker, she did not wreck it alone. If he was a good husband he would have said no.

I hate Jessica Chastain’s dress on her–it’s wearing her and not the other way around. But I love how she was excited to meet Ryan Seacrest, like he’s a bigger deal than she is, and introduced herself like he might not know who she is. LoL She seems very sweet and unassuming (she brought her grandma!). And as a fellow ginger she scores special points with me.

What Sandy said. Angie is nothing if not self-possessed. When she went onstage to present she was oozing sex and she was well aware of it. I think she was vamping it up on purpose. Evidently the audience fell for it because when she went out onstage they were cheering their heads off. Then the guy plays along with it like “See, I’m sexy too!” I think Angie got a big kick out of it. She and Brad will probably have some laughs together about it for a while.
