Cate Blanchett covers Bazaar UK, says she’d play a Bond villainess “in a heartbeat”

Cate Blanchett covers the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. Give ALL the covers to Cate! Please! Even though I’m not completely in love with these two covers (a subscriber’s and the newsstand), it’s always a pleasure seeing Cate’s magnificent face on a magazine cover. As for the interview – Cate is charming and lovely. She’s rarely controversial or headline-grabbing. She’s just a cool woman with a great career. So… her interviews are sometimes slightly boring. No offence to Cate! I’ll take Boring Cate over just about everyone.

Cate is a “huge fan” of the 007 franchise: She says Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love was her favourite baddie of all time. “Oh God! Yes! I’d be there in a heartbeat,” she told the magazine when asked if she would consider playing a Bond villain. “I love Lotta Lenya. She had a club foot and a limp. I’m not a purist in that way.”

Her husband, Andrew Upton, wants her to have hobbies: “My husband went through a phase of giving me vacuum cleaners, sewing machines and Mixmasters. It’s ironic. He is encouraging me to develop a hobby, I think.”

Advice: “An actress once advised me, ‘Make sure you do your own laundry – it will keep you honest,'” she explained.

Possibly becoming a director: “There is a film I’d love to direct, but I just don’t know if I’ve got the patience. In theatre, you can have an idea and get on with it. In film, you hear of people sitting on an idea for eight years, by which time the idea has changed and evolved and become something else.”

Being directed by Terrence Malick: “I can’t guarantee I’ll end up in [the final cut], as is his wont.”

[From The Belefast Telegraph, Film News]

I’m laughing at Cate’s love for the villainess in From Russia With Love. Lotta Lenya was a great villain, and now that I know Cate’s love for that character, you can see how Cate maybe used that as an inspiration for her villainess in that horrible Indiana Jones movie. But yes, the Bond producers really need to get on this. Blanchett needs to be a Bond villainess!!! PLEASE. I want to see her handcuff Daniel Craig and beat the hell out of him. PLEASE.

    Cate The Great, love her

  2. Gwen says:

    I love her.

  3. bea says:

She would make a fantastic villainess!

I am not feeling those photos of her tho. They aren’t that flattering…the color or the lighting is off. Not her best.

  4. Sisi says:

I wonder if a wellknown actress told her about the laundry thing. Michelle williams once made a remark about doing laundry iirc

  5. poppy says:

she’s awesome. so amazing. she manages to stay relevant, seemingly without any effort. i bet goop is trying to find her way into the next bond film now.

  6. madpoe says:

I’m still p.o’d she lost the Oscar to Goop! Wanted her to win for “Elizabeth” so badly! Hate the Oscars!! Love Cate!

    • Waldemar says:

      She WAS robbed that night.

    • Theuth says:

Me too, but don’t lose your hope! The original project for Elizabeth movies was a trilogy – all with Cate, spanned over the years. She already have done two, and the was nominated for both…fingers crossed that the third time she’ll finally have all the awards for her best role.

  7. El Kiddo says:

Oh Kate, how i love her. She really is something else isn’t she?

  8. Original Chloe says:

    Love her to bits.

  9. taylor says:

She defines “effortless,” I think. I know she must work HARD, but she makes it all seem so easy. She’s amazing!

  10. spinner says:

I love Cate. She is a low-key professional & the epitome of class. How many children does she have? I am thinking 2 little boys. You never see them much as she doesn’t parade them around. I love her for that.

  11. Nanea says:

Cate, how do I love thee!

    She’s one of my girl-crushes

I like the cover with the black dress a lot more, but Cate could wear a potato sack – and still look great, and I mean a real one, not the ones Angie likes to wear.

  12. ladybert62 says:

I like her but I do not think she is beautiful. She has an interesting face but it is not a show-stopper.

Seems to have a good sense of humor.

  13. LAK says:

Hey Kaiser, in yesterday’s thread [was it yesterday?} about Julia Roberts and in particular about pros and cons of actors taking time out of their careers, here is an actor who has done just that.

i know she’s not young, and she’s got solid work behind her, but i think it can be just as difficult for the older ones to take time out – See jennifer Aniston and her 6 films in 2.5 years.

Cate has taken 2 years out of her film career to do other things including theatre, and i honestly don’t think it’s hurt her even if her next role turns out to be a Bond villainess.

I really like Cate, she has such a strong presence, yet can play vulnerable at the drop of a hat. What a stunning woman. She is the epitome of a great female lead. Cate, you’ll always be Galadriel to me… 🙂

    • Lizzie says:

I loved her as Galadriel too! With her lovely skin and coloring, she is luminous in real life anyway, but the lighting of LOTR made her magical, and she has such presence … that was perfect casting.

She is just superb. Can you tell I have a girl crush on her? 🙂
