Tina Fey dropped out of Lindsay Lohan’s ‘SNL’ gig: is she still supporting Lohan?

Tina Fey has been one of Lindsay Lohan’s biggest champions ever since they did Mean Girls together. Tina wrote/adapted Mean Girls and she took a supporting part in the film, which Lindsay starred in. Years passed, and with every cracktastrophe Lohan finds herself in, she’s always identified as “the ‘Mean Girls’ actress.” And as the years passed, Tina Fey has continued to prove herself time and time again as one of the great comedic writers and actresses of her generation, and a true role model for young women.

Over the past few years, Tina has taken to “mentoring” younger female comedians, to mixed results. Fey is one of Olivia Munn’s biggest supporters, promoting Olivia’s talents in interviews and even speaking on Olivia’s behalf to producers and directors. The problem? Olivia Munn isn’t all that and it feels like Fey is wasting her efforts on someone who is not only unworthy, but who is actually a standard-issue dumb famewhore with minimal talent. Speaking of, let’s get back to the Cracken. When I first heard that Lindsay had gotten the SNL gig, my first thought was, “Tina Fey pulled some strings for Lindsay.” Tina just refuses to admit that the talented young actress she worked with years ago is now a violent, arrogant, entitled crackhead mess (who has used up all of her “second chances”). The NYDN has a report on just how much Tina Fey was doing behind the scenes to help Lohan:

Tina Fey couldn’t be there for Lindsay Lohan’s “Saturday Night Live” comeback. The comedy goddess — who cast LiLo in her 2004 movie “Mean Girls” and has since functioned as a one-woman cheering section for the trouble doll — was conspicuously absent from the 25-year-old actress’ return to NBC’s fabled Studio 8H.

Although one source familiar with the situation says the “30 Rock” creator declined Lohan’s personal invitation to witness her performance, Fey’s spokeswoman says, “Tina was committed to doing the monologue with Lindsay but both of her children got sick.”

“She was unable to participate as planned,” the rep adds.

An insider says Fey was well into a draft of an opener that would have featured her and Lohan but had to unexpectedly pull out of the broadcast. Oddly enough, Lohan’s monologue was the strongest part of her “SNL” performance, but Fey’s spokeswoman could not give us an answer as to whether any of the lines that LiLo spoke were crafted by the former “SNL” head writer.

While Jimmy Fallon and Jon Hamm appeared on-camera with Lohan and Paul Rudd cheered on the actress from the green room, Fey was not in the house.

Her absence sparked murmurs that, after years of defending Lohan, she’d finally washed her hands of the actress, who’s desperate to make a comeback after years of bad behavior.

In October 2010, during an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Fey told host Andy Cohen: “(Lindsay’s) so great, and such a beautiful girl,” adding, “I hope she gets well.”

When Lohan first hosted “SNL” in May 2005, Fey went so far as to take part in an intervention with “SNL” Executive Producer Lorne Michaels and others who were concerned about the then-rising star’s hard-partying lifestyle.

LiLo talked about the confrontation in a February 2006 Vanity Fair interview.

“They sat me down literally before I was going to do the show, and they said, ‘You need to take care of yourself,’ ” Lohan told the mag. “ ‘We care about you too much, and we’ve seen too many people do this,’ and I just started bawling. I knew I had a problem and I couldn’t admit it,” Lohan said.

As we reported on Monday, despite telling “Today” anchor Matt Lauer that nightclubbing “was not my thing anymore,” Lohan partied past 4 a.m. at Chinatown hotspot Le Baron on Friday morning. She returned Sunday morning after the “SNL” after-party at Kibo.

Although Lohan — who was hosting “SNL” for the third time — got mixed reviews for her performance, the show brought in the time slot’s highest ratings of the season.

Lohan’s spokesman said he had “no idea if Lindsay invited Tina Fey” to watch her perform.

[From NY Daily News]

I think the fact that Tina’s rep even came out with an excuse for why Fey wasn’t there proves that Tina is still in Lindsay’s corner. I feel the same way about this as I do about Robert Downey Jr’s continued support of Mel Gibson. I admire Tina’s (and RDJ’s) incredible loyalty to a friend, but please don’t ask me to accept that Lohan (or Gibson) has “changed” or that they’re “sorry” for their past actions. It feels like Lindsay is exploiting Tina’s friendship and loyalty, and at the end of the day, Tina could and should find worthier talents to foster, mentor and promote.

Here are some new photos of Lindsay looking busted and shopping at Barney’s. Shouldn’t she be getting back to LA to finish up her morgue duty? Look at the way she carried herself – she’s like the crackie Gloria Swanson. She’s ready for her closeup, Lorne Michaels.

Tina, stop wasting your time on this useless crackie moron. Find a more worthy charity case.

    • rissa says:

      “word”

google “cosmos bitchiest girl in Hollywood 2006” that’s gotta be Lindsay right?

  2. Gene Parmesan says:

    i want that bitch’s purse!!

  3. Medusa says:

I guess she just can’t close her mouth anymore, literally. I had thought it was just a sexyface thing.

You know what grandma says: “Quit making that face or it’ll get stuck that way!”

  4. Marjalane says:

Tina goes from a “A” to a “C” with her continual support of these two- Olivia Munn is just NOT funny and Lilo is just not worth the trouble.

    • iloveretro says:

      +1

I don’t understand why she goes out of her way to promote either of these two. They’re both unworthy, unfunny and lacking in ‘star quality’.

  5. TG says:

Agree with you 100% Kaiser. Why would Tina Fey want to be even associated with that blonde fried creature. Ugh.

  6. Amanda says:

Why defend such losers? Though I’ll admit that I’d rather watch the Cracken attempt to be an entertainer than Olivia Munn. Blech.

  7. dorothy says:

Tina probably didn’t want her career tarnished by being associated with Lohan.

  8. lucy2 says:

I think Tina is just a genuinely nice person, who worked with Lindsay at her prime, and probably had a good relationship with her then. It’s probably been hard for her to watch Lindsay’s fall, especially when she’s tried to help her. Tina’s probably been a better mom to her than White Oprah ever was.

I do wish she’d give up on Munn too though. There are actually funny women out there who could use support.

  9. Lem says:

Why are all gossip stories using the word doll this week? Are we taking speaking lessons from Kardashian’s now?

  10. Tiffany27 says:

You know how awesome my life would be if I had Tina Fey in my corner? Stop wasting your time Tina on crackheads and fame hos who leak their own nude pics.

  11. gee says:

Off topic.. I have been looking for a scarf like that for EVER.. except the budget friendly version. Anyone have any leads?

  12. Cinesnatch says:

The article gets two things wrong. 2005 was her second gig. And she’s hosted a total of four times.

  13. GoodCapon says:

“but both of her children got sick.”

    Oh, what a coincidence!

    • Kristin says:

Seriously. Little ones are the great “get out of whatever you don’t want to do” cards when there’s something crappy coming down the pike.

  14. Soxfan says:

I see Tina not being there as a dis to the Cracken, actually, which sort of restores my faith in TF. LL and her minions made sooo much of this hosting job as some sort of comeback. If TF was truly behind LL, I feel she would have made any attempt to be there for support. Sick kids are a convenient excuse?? IDK. Though when my kids were little and sick, I would never have left them, either. IDK.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I think she was sending a message. The kids have a father and a monologue isn’t a whole show. But who knows? The newer one is just a little, little baby, right?

  15. itstrue says:

Please give those leggings a day off.

  16. imabrat says:

“Desperate” pretty much sums up the whole of Lohan. Whereas most people don’t want pity, Lohan lives off pity.

  17. Boo says:

That’s true about her living off pity. If she’s not a Crackie Gloria Swanson (which is fabulous, btw), she is a Crackie Blanche DuBois, who lives on the kindness of strangers.

Wait, I shouldn’t give her any ideas, or the next thing we know, she’ll be being cast in the Lifetime remake of A StreetCrackie Named Desire.

    • Newtsgal says:

I’d call her a grifter or a gyspy but, that would be an insult to grifters and gyspies

      • Boo says:

True that. Sometimes the strangers don’t even know they are being “kind” to her–like when she steals from them, for example.

  18. Jover says:

Actually my ire is directed at Lorne Michaels he has lost touch with much of what’s happening in pop culture – I realize most young “stars” of today are a shadow of former days, but my GOd who gets dolts like January Jones, Megan fox and Lilo to host a COMEDY Variety show where singing, dancing, acting, comedic timing, and having a personality, etc. are essential for the gig. Perhaps it’s time for SNL to hang it up.

    • The Bobster says:

The pinheaded Sadam Addler had none of those abilities, yet he was a regular on the show.

  19. G says:

I wonder if it was a strategic decision not to get further involved since Crackie was going to tank?

By the end of the week, it must have been clearly apparent that Lohan was not doing well and even clubbing into the wee hours. Her role was minimized and they brought out support for he monologue including John Hamm. Why should Fey put more effort into it than Lohan?

BTW, NBC employees from Lauer to Fallon to the SNL cast have been impeccable in towing the party line that she did “great”.

  20. Maripily says:

I think Tina Fey is still longing for the Lindsay of old. I tell a lot of enablers I encounter in my profession that the person you are seeking to help, the person who existed before the heavy drug use…may no longer exist. Certain street drugs change brain chemistry, interfere with the way the brain functions, and can completely change the user’s personality on a permanent basis. Don’t allow nostalgia to interrupt getting the addict true help, which in a lot of cases means allowing the addict to reach bottom. I commend Tina for not supporting LiLo, if this was truly the case. LiLo is not ready for her return to the world of acting, nor is she deserving of any special breaks or favors. She has not reached her bottom, and I doubt she ever will because she’s an extreme narcissist on top of being an addict.

  21. Newtsgal says:

    oops!…..

  22. mln76 says:

I hate to be the one to defend ‘the Cracken’ because I still can’t stand her and wish she’d go away already BUT…She’s not as bad as Mel Gibson.

  23. DT says:

I don’t know what Tina Fey’s situation is but those of us who are sober – we don’t give up on a fellow addict/alcoholic until the Coroner is zipping up the bag.

Keep coming back, Lindsay and anyone else who is struggling with substance abuse. You are welcome in recovery.

    • Boo says:

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Lindsay should not be supported *in her recovery.* But her partying and SNL appearance seem counterproductive to a healthy or extended recovery, if in fact she is even sober, which many people believe she is not (not being able to name the exact date since she has been sober, etc.). So, if Lindsay actually were in real recovery, and she were ready to come back a healthy and whole person who could fully commit to and focus on the job, I’ll bet Tina would’ve been there. It didn’t go down that way, though.

  24. Candyland says:

Don’t rich people have nannies and stuff to watch there sick kids? I LOLed at the excuse.

Loving the coat and scarf tho. She’s actually rockin’ them.

  25. tdh004 says:

Instead of wasting her time with Olivia Munn and LL she needs to take Mindy Kalling under her wing and help her!!!!!

    • Renee says:

Seriously, anyone other than those two. Hearing that she was so supportive of Munn is seriously disappointing. I need to stop putting people on pedestals. At least I still have Amy Poehler.

  26. wunder says:

Tina is loaded, so she has help with her kids.

Being a ‘professional performer’ means you go to work no matter what-it doesnt matter WHAT it is as long as you’re still breathing-so I dont buy her ‘sick kids’ excuse!

I wonder what the REAL STORY is behind her skipping out? Maybe Tina an LL had a falling out.

  27. Mary says:

At least I know now who to blame Oliva Munn on. Thank you Tina Fey (rolls eyes).

  28. iheartjacksparrow says:

I hope Barney’s had a security person following LiLo around the store, otherwise they might discover they’re short a necklace or dress at the end of the day.

  29. samira677 says:

If Tina wasn’t a supporter she wouldn’t have been writing or planning to attend.

  30. skeptical says:

Tina needs to drop the cracken, and the flat Munn, and pick up Mindy Kaling.
Actually all the producer types need to drop the cracken. Being forgotten is the only thing she fears.if somehow a lack of internet intrest means even the paps won’t follow her, she’d still tweet and post her own pics.
At least she wouldn’t make money from that. Isn’t there a way to dry up this trick’s finances? Why hasn’t the IRS slapped her for tax evasion?
