Us Weekly: Duchess Kate gets a blowout every 3 days & she can’t accept freebies

Us Weekly has put Duchess Kate’s Bump Watch on their cover this week, but I have to say… I just read the whole story, and it’s pretty good. It’s not JUST about when Kate and William will actually get down to royal baby-makin’. It’s also about how they spend their time, and there are some great little details about their life together as a married couple. First, though, let’s talk about babies:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are as eager as the rest of the world to have a little prince or princess on board — but producing a royal heir requires careful orchestration!

“There’s a window in place,” a royal insider confirms in the new Us Weekly, out now. Another source explains that Kate Middleton, 30, and Prince William, 29, hope to conceive their first child anytime between the last leg of their royal tour in September 2012 and summer 2013. (This summer, the couple will be the de-facto emcees for the Summer Olympics held in London, and will be taking a royal Asia-Pacific tour in September.)

Their ideal? A New Year’s announcement! Once Middleton hits the three-month mark in her pregnancy, “the pregnancy will be announced,” says the insider. “It won’t be hidden.”

Although the plan may sound rigid, it is the couple’s choice, the insider says. “They’re excited! This has been a long time coming when you think about how long they’ve been together.”

The pregnancy plan also explains why William has not yet announced his long-term career plans with the Royal Air Force. “This is why William has chosen not to share his future RAF work plans until next summer… If they’re expecting, it will be full-time London for them,” the source says.

[From Us Weekly]

Yeah… I actually believe this is probably closer to what’s going to happen. All of the royal courtiers act like Kate is too delicate and fragile to simultaneously be a working royal AND be pregnant, so of course they’re going to wait until all of their public duties are done for this year. So much waiting. Or “Waity-ing” as people say.

As I said, there’s a lot more in Us Weekly’s cover story, which is more like several small pieces all tied together with the royal theme. It’s actually a great read, and I found some of the gossip to be interesting/hilarious. Some interesting pieces of information:

*Kate buys all of her own clothes. She’s not allowed to accept anything for free, although she can accept a discount on custom-made pieces.

*When William turns 30 on June 21, he’ll come into half of his trust – his trust was set up using his late mother’s estate (he got nearly half, Harry got a little bit more than half). The trusts are set up so the brothers don’t get all of the money all at once. But when he turns 30, William will come into about $15.5 million.

*Kate is hellbent on redecorating their Kensington Palace apartment – “She’s keen to work with interior designer Kelly Hoppen, but she wants to do a lot herself.” BUTTONS EVERYWHERE.

*Her famous pair of LK Bennett nude pumps? She only has ONE pair and that’s the pair she wears everywhere. A royal source claims that Kate wore them so much, she had to have them reheeled last year.

*Kate gets a blowout at the Richard Ward salon in London every three days, often at a cost of more than $75 per blowout. Kate “insists on visiting the salon rather than having them come to her.”

*William is “romantic” and he likes to send flowers to Kate when he’s working. And when he gets home, Kate “cooks his favorite dinners” and she “orders movies from Amazon for them to watch on the couch.”

*Sometimes they go out for movies too – they went to see The Avengers in London, and Kate wasn’t all gussied up – “She was wearing a scrunchie.”

*Prince Harry and Kate are super-duper “close”. A source says, “He sees her more like a sister… he often turns to her for advice – they’ve always been close.” And the feeling is mutual – “She loves his sense of humor… he makes her crack up all the time, even when it’s not appropriate.” Harry and Kate are trying to plan a big birthday celebration for William too. Ginger baby in nine months? Perchance.

YES. You heard me. Everyone thinks that Harry and Kate are really, really close these days. Ginger babies!!!! Also: Us Weekly has a hilarious “daily calendar” to try to explain how Kate really spends her days. It’s ridiculous. Like, she just sits around and shops and gets her hair done, but they try to make it fancy by saying that she “takes meetings” with some of her charities. LMAO.

Here are some more photos of Kate, Will and the Queen yesterday – Kate is doing so much better with keeping her hands off of her hair, have you noticed?

I like the one with Kate and the queen smiling at each other. Maybe the queen likes her more, now that there is a little Windsor whirling around inside her (I know that’s only speculation). She is wearing her hair back a lot more lately.

  2. Luise says:

    Spin it Baby spin it!!!!

    • sans says:

I agree, it’s getting so obvious. Like all the stuff about Wills staying at home to be with pregnant Kate, like the royal family gives a flying fig about the family unit. Fergy’s husband was always away, pregnant or not, even when she had a newborn at home. Then again, maybe they are learning to incorporate some peasanty values into their daily lives in order to avoid the PR disasters of the past.

  3. anna says:

She’s my age but looks 10 years older than me. Really harsh face.

  4. beyonce's bump says:

She has this look about her face that i cannot like. She just looks like she is so sneaky, conniving and manipulative.

    • Suzie says:

This! This first time I noticed it was at the Diana concert. I didn’t know who Waity was at the time, but I remember thinking, “There’s something off about that woman and the way she stares at PW.”

    • Liv says:

Hmm, I think she’s pretty severe and controlled and she pushed hard for this – but I also think she really loves him, so he’s actually lucky to have her.

    • Raven says:

Let me guess, your favorite hat is made of aluminum.

  5. maryoomba says:

the queen is chancellor palpatine reincarnated

  6. SleepyJane says:

Prince William used to be so handsome. Egads!

    • Launicaangelina says:

I’ll be the biatch and say this, he has enough money to deal with the baldness. He used to be handsome and now, not so much.

  7. Mel says:

Kelly Hoppen? Bleurgh. I like Kate’s taste in clothes but her taste in interior designers leaves a lot to be desired.

  8. DanaG says:

It’s nice to have your whole life planned out right up to the conceiving of a child. Of course mother nature may have other plans! I like Kate but I do find her very boring, she dresses boring and she behaves boring. It’s probably why everyone in the Royal Family like her. She does what she is told when she is told, what is not to like? We all saw what happened when a Princess has her own mind. The no freebies policy is thanks to Freebie Fergie who till this very day lives of freebies. Doesn’t pay rent, doesn’t work and ex hubby pays her bills. We don’t want Katie repeating her repulsive grab everything I can cause I am a Duchess behaviour. There is a chance the baby will be a redhead without any help from Prince Harry. Redheads run in the Spencer family and William is half Spencer!

    • JulieM says:

Actually, there was a time that Fergie was making substantial money through her books, Weight Watchers, etc. Unfortunately she is impulsive and not too bright and has repeatedly squandered what she made.

  9. Tiegs says:

Ok, this is obviously made-up garbage. She definitely owns more than one pair of the LK Bennett nude pumps, she has them in patent leather as well. There was an article about the shoes in the Daily Mail last week.

And she wasn’t wearing a scrunchie. There was one picture taken on a camera phone, and it was clearly a hair clip.

If they can’t even get that right, then the whole article is questionable at best. It’s just cobbled-together bits about her from the last few months based on pictures.

  10. Enn says:

I wish I had someone to give me a blow out every three days. I hate washing, conditioning, and drying my hair, let alone styling it.

  11. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Enough. Let’s get some hot Harry news in here please.

  12. Bored suburbanhousewife says:

So he treats her more like “a sister” eh? And he and sis are planning a new young Prince Joffrey (see Cersei, Jaime, GoT) who will be conceived in Kate. September in accordance with the Prophesy. Bada bing. Just like that –right.

@LAK –left a comment for you on yesterday’s Kate message board re. baby names on nature of the Will Kate relationship.

This sister observattion is interesting in this regard. Looking forward to hearing from you on this.

    • LAK says:

Thank you for my message. I am still laughing at your Henrietta comment. The problem would be that shortening it couldn’t produce a suitably prole nickname, but i tried….let’s see, Hen or nettie, or hettie or Etta. Mind you Hettie and Nettie might be considered prole enough.

i do know a Henrietta whose nickname is Hen!!!

On the subject of this article….i am literally exhausted at this new pr push [whether it’s official or unofficial or US weekly making it up].

Harry has always been portrayed in the media as a knuckle head with poor sense of judgement, but he does one tour and is very visible in his charity roles/patronages this year and everyone can see that he is none of those things = Prince Harry right now is untouchable.

Meanwhile in the Waity household, no matter how they try to push it, we can’t see it. William is excused because he is Diana’s son, didn’t you know? Sidenote – i wonder why that excuse is never given for Harry? WAity being more visible than William, and doing nothing to change her Waity to Doolittle life, is pushed upon us as a role model. Since it’s not working, let’s try to sprinkle some Harry stardust.

Suddenly Harry / Waity [a situation previously ignored], are BFFs in the media. It’s amazing that when you examine all these public BFFs pictures, no one is actually looking at Kate. Their eyeline is always just beyond her but in the cropped picture, it looks like they are as thick as thieves. Videos, on the otherhand, tell a more complete, contextual story.

Everything else in this article is pushing Waity as the little housewife circa 50s and seems to be culled from disparate sources to cobble together one article.

      • angelic 20 says:

First of all I like to thank lak and others on the history lessons in the last thread,i learned note about royal history today then I did in my ten years in England.second I are with you, they are trying Yo rub Harry’s popularity on do little just the way they did with Queen.if anyone has seen the videos, you will notice that Queen hardly looks at her, there is no eye contact with her plus whenever they are laughing she is either looking at people around her or i’m a different direction and do little is just laughing on her own which is so different compared to the way Queen is with Camilla.she actually calls get and talks and laugh with her Kate goes to a hair salon in every the days, so when exactly she is in Wales playing the house wife? Is there anything that she do apart f from going to hair dresser or shopping or attending a gala? By these articles they make her look even more shallow then I think that she is.

On jet lazy husband who do not want to be a full time royal and only wants to be regular search and rescue pilot, where exactly he is while Wales is flooded? this is his job and he is un London partying while there are floods in Wales.no sign of search and rescue pilot prince of Wales in time of crisis.seriously these two are becoming more and more irrelevant by each passing day.if this goes on I am going to join the republic movement after Queen.

      • arlie says:

LAK, are you by chance Waity to Doolittle over on Enclave 24? Just curious!

  13. Ellen says:

She’s going from Anglesey to London every three days? Never mind paying for her own clothes, that’s going to cost a fortune in gas. (She does seem to be in the City every other day, though, so I almost believe it.)

    • Sachi says:

But according to her fans, she’s the representative of austerity in England! She’s aware of the public’s suffering, so she recycled a $2000 dress! Getting a blow out every 3 days is a consolation for all of her efforts to be more thrifty!

And no, I doubt she’s in Anglesey at all. She’s not photographed shopping twice a week in London lately, but I don’t think she’s out there in Anglesey living the life of a housewife. She hasn’t been living there since last year. She’s always been in London shopping and getting her hair done.

      • Bess says:

If Kate is really spending more time in London than in Anglesey, I have to wonder what her husband is up to when she’s not there.

  14. Rose says:

    A scrunchie?!?!

    • jamie says:

If this were true I’d pledge myself to being a Kate fan until the day I died. Unfortunately I think it’s too good to be true.

  15. JulieM says:

The more effort the Palace PR puts into trying to make something of Waity, the less substantial she becomes. Trying too hard to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Maybe she should have married Harry.

Oh, and it makes sense that Harry got more than Willy from his mother’s trust fund. Willy will be inheriting the entire family fortune one day, which is quite considerable. The Queen is one of the richest women in the world.

    • Sachi says:

It’s amazing how far the Palace would go to make Kate and William into something they’re not (down-to-earth and modern? HA!!!), and making a big hullabaloo about things they should not concern themselves to begin with. All these PR spins just cheapen the monarchy’s brand.

They’d respond to the most trivial things: Kate’s hair extensions and claiming it’s a scar and refuting everything that relates to it.

But actually publish whatever it is that Kate does for her charities, how often she works, and if there’s any progress?

Nope, that’s to be done in secret. Just like Kate’s “visits” to her charities. Everything is done in secret.

The only capitulation they did was to say that Kate volunteers once a month for the Scouts for 1 1/2 hours, LOL, as if that’s something to be proud of.

I know 10-year olds who do more volunteer work than 30-year old Kate’s “once a month” effort. Kate is too busy having her hair blown out every 3 days and going shopping the rest of the week.

And 1 year later, all Kate is known for are her hair, her clothes, her shoes, and her eyeliner. Nothing but a clotheshorse with big, shiny hair and raccoon eyes.

No substance, no major accomplishments, no actual contributions, etc.

As for the Windsors’ wealth, I think Harry will be better off. The Queen’s monies are not liquid. It’s lands, palaces/castles, art, and jewels that compose the majority of her wealth, and a lot of those are tied to the Crown. I may not be accurate on this, though. Perhaps someone else can clarify.

JK Rowling is said to be richer than the Queen, and Rowling’s wealth is definitely monetary in nature. A lot of nobles like the Duke of Westminster is 5x richer than the Queen if we’re talking about actual net worth in British pounds.

      • HME says:

It was truly mind boggeling how fast that statement denying the hair extensions came out. Speaks VOLUMES about her true priorities.

I love how they try and make it sound like her physically going to the salon every THREE DAYS is so much better than her stylist coming to her. Which ever way you slice it she spends A LOT of time getting her hair did. Help me out long hair people: how long would a standard blowout take for hair as long as hers?

  16. Tiffany says:

I really want for Kate to be a person with interest and a passion for something. You get beyond the cattiness and just want something for her.I don’t sit in a salon twice a week but I have been told I am funny, smart and a bit of a smartass and an extreme love for the STL Cardinals. My fellow Celebitches all seem to be funny and at times thought provoking. See,something.

  17. Zigggy says:

For a New Years baby (like the cover says) she’d have had to get pregnant in late March, early April.

  18. Melanie says:

OK this is embarrassing but what the heck do you mean by blowout?

  19. SmartGirlsAlwaysWinInTheEnd says:

Nearly TWO YEARS and Duchess Does-VERY-Little’s contribution is going to the salon, wearing pretty clothes, and working out. ಠ_ಠ *disapproval

I suppose if England/UK were managed by that ONE salon, I’d say she was doing right by her countrymen/women. I wouldn’t be proud of ANY of this.

She is a frivilous woman living a frivilous life in a country where men and women like her are having difficulties supporting their families.

Shame on her and shame on William for not laying the pimp hand on this s***
    months ago.

I mean, is William a dope? This hurts his image two-fold.

How can England/Commonwealth/UK trust him to be King if they can’t trust him to pick a proper wife? And by “proper” I mean a woman who does something in support of her husband/family. He was better off marrying a Victoria Secret model. Some of those girls actually DO MORE than just model panties. They do some ACTUAL CHARITY WORK! While modeling panties… (^_^)

If she keeps this up, she’s going to make Wallis Simpson and Marie Antoinette look like bloody SAINTS!

    • LAK says:

….but William himself was pictured out clubbing whilst his future principality, where he currently resides, was flooding and all hands on deck were needed to rescue people!! Isn’t that HIS job as a NORMAL person??

To be fair, he may have been or is on leave, but it is a very poor show to be clubbing whilst all that is going on. Emperor Nero comes to mind.

      • angelic 20 says:

He was supposed to be on a one week off for jubilee celebration but it has been more then a week plus in times of crisis all the pilots ate asked to cancel their holidays and come back to work like normal people.this it’s what he it’s precisely trained for and instead of doing his job that he claims he really wants to do he is out clubbing drinking and going to theatre, seriously? Where the hell is prince of Wales and his military wife when they are needed, what a waste of resources funded by the tax payers in order to train William as search and rescue pilot, something he uses to hide but when it comes to the real work that he had been trained for he is no where to be seen.

  20. sharylmj says:

You can tell she is well liked by the Royal family.. she’s very close to William’s father and step mom, the Queen obviously loves her or wouldn’t spend so much time with her. Whatever she is doing, they approve. That’s all that matters. I think she and William are a perfect couple, both boring, but nice.

  21. Bored suburbanhousewife says:

I am truly puzzled by her Doolittleness. After evidently playing a shrewd & patient game to marry the Royals it seems inconsistent that she does not throw herself into the charity public appearance with equal discipline & fervor. Can’t imagine this would not be what Carole would urgently advise.

Wonder if there is something going on behind the scenes we don’t know about yet? Eating disorder? Emotional problems maybe they have actually been desperately trying without success for baby ? WHAT???

    Weigh in people!

    • LAK says:

There was a commentor on CB a few posts ago who made a very interesting comment which essentially said that perhaps her life’s ambition achieved, she can’t be bothered to do anymore. And as she very clearly stated in her engagement interview that she doesn’t care what people think of her, then she’s going to do whatever she feels like doing now. It’s not as though she can be easily divorced.

      • Bored suburbanhousewife says:

@LAK I’m open to all possibilities, but I don’t know if it’s really secure and comfortable to simply hang it up cause divorce isn’t easy. After all, failed marriages and failure to fulfill job description eventually led to 3/4 divorces among Queens children. She is not totally secure. Diana might have been unhappy with Charles but she seemed even more lost and unhappy rocketing to and fro like a pinball machine ball after her divorce.

If the are secrete fertility problems, I’ve known many normal women so consumed with anxiety they just literally it their lives on hold in pursuit of. The elusive pregnancy.

      • bluhare says:

I don’t know if that was me, LAK, but I do believe that William doesn’t necessarily want a 50/50 partner, but someone who makes him look good in public, ie eye candy.

And she is good at that. Besides, if you think about it, after 10 years of “working” to get him, girl needs a rest!

      • LAK says:

@Bluhare – i have seriously let go of my irritation ever since that arm candy comment that you made.

No matter what the palace says, officially or unofficially, they have allowed a situation post wedding where one of their asset is described as Dolittle. These monikers tend to stick. She/they have made a rod for their own backs. And She/they do not seem to want to get rid of it. it’s ostrich syndrome. In the meantime she/they deflect – arm candy!!!

And yes, Gf spent 10years working. She deserves the rest!!!

      • angelic 20 says:

I agree with bluhare that William do not want an equal partner but I don’t think that being an arm candy in this day and age will be enough for the role of a future Queen especially when Diana created this charitable role for herself.she needs to do more on get own to keep monarchy relevant and for people to respect her she has to be more then arm candy, let the t years end the media will start criticising her and expect her to do more whether she or her husband want that or not.

      • bluhare says:

angelic: I agree with you. For better or worse, Diana raised the bar for future POW’s, of which Kate is one.

      • LAK says:

@Bluhare – you forget, because of what happened to Diana , the bar has now been lowered to such a level that we applaud when she puts her hair up!!! It’s amazing how many times the spirit of Diana is invoked as the excuse for this behavior as well as William’s minimum royal duties.

@Angelic20 – i agree that her role should have substance, but clearly she/they do not see it beyond arm candy.

On a William note, what kind of man in our current times wants a doormat? And especially that kind of empty vessel doormat? Based upon his choice and what she had to do to get him, there is a very strong implication that he can’t handle accomplished women. All his ex-GF have gone on to become accomplished women.

      • Bored suburbanhousewife says:

Actually Diana did not set the standard for good works. I believe Princess Anne has set the standard as hardest workin Royal in show business. The Queen, the DOE & Charles also have been tireless charitable leaders.

Could be true Will tells her what to do & for whatever reason does not want her to take a higher profile now or maybe ever.

LOL @bluhare–gf gotta be tired! And judging by how thin she is, GF gotta be HONGRY as well!

      • angelic 20 says:

        Lak
I agree with the William statement, he is such a turn off for me because he choose a doormat for his wife, Kate is just ar reflection of him.no wonder any woman with a little bit of self respect did not go for him.as far as get role is concerned and the Diana excuse, well I also don’t want another Diana (sad, eating disorder unhappy etc) but I like to think that a collage graduate 30 years old woman could be more then an arm candy especially if tabloids want her to’ve looked as a role model and I don’t think the palace pr can keep up this arm candy images for long because her fans always say the palace excuse of giving her 2 years so she is not pressured or throw to wolves but the second year will end soon and I am so curious about their strategy then.

I think rather then being afraid of creating another Diana, palace is actually preparing themselves for the worst and giving her all the time so if something goes wrong in the future with her marriage, she won’t be able to point get fingers at anyone or the palace which was the case with Diana.they are letting everyone know that William is calling all the shots, she is not throw n to wolves and is given all the information I.e. princess training lessons, even Charles is not getting involved with her and William so if something goes wrong in future it is on William and Kate and not on other royals or palace or royal duties.

      • LAK says:

@Angelic20 – i completely agree with your assesssment re:insurance policy being taken out by The Palace.

When you think about it, since when has the Palace been this loose lipped about any members of the RF, new and born? And yet we hear all the time about how they are helping Kate with this and that. Not just in general terms, but in very specific terms.

I do not think they can blame William because he is in Wales being ‘normal’ at his ‘job’. Kate is therefore left to be trained by experts at the Palace.

Edit: re: all this training and lessons she is supposedly receiving, especially in terms of civics seems to imply that she will either co-rule or she will rule. William is the Heir apparent. If anything, he should be the one receiving these civics lessons. Diana who would have been the immediate Queen consort never received lessons in civics etc and neither has Camilla.

@boredsuburbanhousewife – i hear you re:Anne, but as someone on previous thread pointed out to me, apparently the other members of the royal family don’t count. we only look at the heir!!!! [sarcasm]

seriously, if we could vote for who would be the next heir within the family, i’d vote for Anne every time.

  22. garvels says:

I can’t explain it but she just doesn’t have that “it” factor like Diana. She is a pretty girl but unremarkable.

  23. kristin says:

Take a look at youtube videos of Princess Mary of Denmark, you’ll know how bad this one is indeed.

  24. Lizbet says:

So much has been made of the fact that she does her own hair, but a blowout every three days means she doesn’t even wash it herself!

Putting a clip in your hair for a public appearance is not worth international acclaim.

  25. sup says:

she looks so old. and evil. lol

  26. JulieM says:

Interesting that William, a college graduate, marries another college graduate, however lazy and unremarkable. But Harry, with no college, went for an educated, ambitious, career girl (Chelsy). I wonder which brother is threatened by successful, accomplished women?

    • maemay says:

People tend to marry other people the love. Men do not necessarily care about your resume when picking out a mate.

      • JulieM says:

Guess Waity left Lazy Doormat off her resume. This says more about the brothers than it does about the women they chose. And William certainly doesn’t have the look of love for his wife. More annoyance than anything else.

        The fairy tale continues.

  27. Princess Lizabeth says:

    I can’t help it, I like Kate.

Not a Pippa fan, but I won’t go there.

  28. erika says:

i gotta break in and make my first katie comment…

at first i couldn’t understand the grief katy got around here…but i’m slowly catching on. First off, CUT THE DAMN HAIR!!! Cut it! CHEW it off if you have to! cut cut cut! I’m am so puzzled by every female celeb with this ‘Marcia Brady’ style of super long hair, right down to your fanny, parted in the middle.

It’s horrible. It’s not flattering to like 89% of the female population, it’s for princess wanna be girls in 1st grade AND most important of all, it’s NOT stylish!

Not stylish! A sophisticated woman, Princess of all things, who has access to high fashion/couture at her fingers, should have a haircut that proves she’s graduated from elemenntary schooL!

    It’s NOT stylish.

Also, I know it’ll take years for her to grow into her Princess role, but the one thing I adored about Diana was how truly, honestly dedicated and masterful she was at charity…come on, she traipsed through fields filled with land bombs and I recall she even held hands with a gay man infected with AIDs in the early 80s when AIDs was still confused as being contagious.

I guess if I were her, and I would love to be for this reason only (No wills is ….snooze….) to have the oppy to use your royalty to just reach out to people, mainly sick young children who would flip over it…i’m thinking of a 5 yr old with cancer…to that child katie could be her heroinne, IF she really threw herself into it…

cut the hair…donate it to that charity that takes human hair into wigs for kids with cancer…that would ROCK

    • Carolin says:

re donating waity’s hair: great idea!!!

    • LAK says:

Our dear beloved duchess visits a cancer ward with her super shiny mane of hair flying everywhere and in the faces of all the cancer patients who’ve lost their hair, and can’t be bothered to hand write or even write an original note to the little boy who had cancer.

      • Raz says:

So in order to visit a kids cancer ward, you can’t have long hair? Wow. In what way is she showing it off. WHy don’t yall go bald for those kids with cancer? Why don’y you dump out your life savings and donate it to a cancer charity. Stupid bitches all of ya.

    • Raz says:

Why are you so rude? Why don’t you cut off your hair and donate it to kids with cancer. Bitch. Let Kaet have long hair. So rude you are.

I wonder where they get their info from? Certainly not the right places.

Kate has two male hairdressers. They’ve been doing her hair for years. They were on tv discussing it a little! They spent WEEKS deciding on her hair style for the royal wedding. Yes, can you believe that hairstyle she wore took weeks.

She does NOT visit the salon. They visit her. Although they are hairdressers for others, she is their main priority. They do her blow dries whenever she wants and it costs a lot more than $75.
