Keira Knightley in beige Valentino at the LA Film Festival: hideous or cute?

These are some photos of the LA Film Festival premiere of Seeking A Friend for the End of the World, which has the most unlikely on-screen coupling ever, I think, with Steve Carell and Keira Knightley playing kind-of/sort-of love interests. Keira showed up for the premiere wearing this difficult Valentino gown. I’m not sure what to make of it… it’s a “look” for sure. It’s a dress only a beautiful woman could pull off, and even then, I still kind of hate it. Like, I could have handled the beige-y paper sack quality, I could have handled the weird color combination of the silver, white and red on top of the beige… but that ruching on the chest is just a bridge too far. This dress is hideous. But I do like the way Keira tries to work it, and what she did with her hair is kind of interesting. Incidentally, this was Keira’s first red carpet since getting engaged to James Righton.

Here’s Steve Carell – I just realized that he and I have the same glass frames. For real.

Connie Britton looks fantastic in this blue.

I’m not sure why Drew Barrymore is there – she’s not in the movie, nor is she listed as a producer. But it’s nice to see her – she’s carrying very well, isn’t she?

The dress Keira is wearing is all ethereal and whimsical, but it does nothing for her.

At first I thought Drew was Kate Winslet.

    • corny says:

looks like grandma’s bedroom drapes her beauty is wasted in this

      • MsLib says:

Is this supposed to be a vampire movie? Is that why they showed Keira’s neck? Keira sure looks the part. Right? That outfit is from her Great Great Great Grandma’s bedroom windows in the 19th century. And Connie looks like she is ready for the next bite. As for Steve…he can bite me anywhere!

I kinda like the whole look. Keira can easily pull it off and I think she looks adorable.

    • Monkey Jim says:

I do, too. She’s like a woodland nymph. I love Keira. Still v thin, but not as painfully thin as she has been though.

      • Amelia says:

She definitely does look very ethereal and dinky but a bit poorly too IMO. Maybe tiredness combined with a brave make-up choice.
I don’t actually think she’s too thin though. She’s the epitome of a pear shape, but she dresses very, very well. I saw her on Jonathan Ross a while back, and she wore a shortish shirt, which you rarely see her wear. She carries all her weight on her legs so her torso looks like she’s going to blow away. She definitely is very slender, but probably not as worry worthy as we all think.

  3. Shelly says:

I do not get Keira’s allure at all. She is way too thin, and I just don’t find her face that attractive either. I really dislike her dress, but the back of her hair does look really pretty.

  4. RocketMerry says:

Aww, Keira is just so cute! I’m glad she found in Righton the Right One (sorry, couldn’t help myself!) 🙂

Side note, did she lose some of that lovely weight she had put on? I kinda liked her with 5 lb more on!

  5. gee says:

    Everyone looks good! So rare!

  6. Charlotte says:

She must be dream of every gay designer. She has body of teenage boy. Literally.

      +1

She looks ill, she should eat more. I recently saw photos of her, doing a trip to Africa, and seriously, she looked like hell.

  7. Aria says:

Keira is a beauty but this look NOT! I would love that dress and hairband on someone younger like the Fanning Sisters. Another complaint: the red shadow! No, darliing, no!

  8. mwa says:

Wow that’s Steve? He looks better now for some reason

  9. kayla says:

I love that dress. It’s very pretty. I think her makeup make her look pale and her hair is little too messy, but I still like the general look.

  10. embertine says:

If it was a warmer beige I think it wouldn’t wash her skin out so much? I don’t hate it.

Wow I said that in my head in the voice of one of those creepy gun turrets from Portal.

  11. Dee Cee says:

She over boards on natural.. It’s just near pretty, but organic earthy.. ethereal best she has.. no too expensive or fussy beauty, why bother the fashion houses for uninspired gowns and the hair dressers for blah hair and the make up people for splotch and blend jobs… it must be just like ultra fine healthy skin I tell you, natural bloom flush and glow., clothing perfect in any era..

  12. Adrien says:

Steve Carell looks handsome. He looks like a better version of Don Draper. No, really, I’m serious.

Drew looks like young Drew from E.T. She’s cute.

I kinda like Keira’s look. I don’t really like safe get-ups, so there.

  13. Sorella says:

Love Keira, she can geta way with this ethereal look. She is too thin and has the body of most working models, but maybe that’s her body type, my sister has same body type, always on the too-think side (even after 4 kids!).

I love how Keira is so non-Hollywood, how she doesn’t play the game, how she isn’t everywhere in our faces, pushing her way into every big role *cough Anne Hathaway*. She marches to the beat of her own drum, yet is pleasant *cough Kate Winslet*, like that about her.

  14. Sorella says:

    *** too-thin** side

  15. GlitterSha says:

I REALLY like this whole look. she looks like a Vanity Fair cover.

  16. Bubbling says:

Keira is sooo tiny! I could swallow the dress but it is the length that kills it for me

  17. Mrs.Darcy says:

I actually like it a lot, but I am a sucker for embroidered folkloric peasanty stuff. Love the hair too, I think she just about pulls it off.

  18. ZigZagZoey says:

What is up with Drew’s hair? Yikes.

  19. j says:

From the header pic, I thought Keira was one of the Willis girls.

  20. Cathy says:

I can’t decide if I like Keiras dress or not. Something about the cut of the top makes me cringe. I just can’t put my finger on it though.

Steve is looking handsome as ever though. He’s aging well.

  21. Mara says:

Love Keira she is so beautiful and a very good actress .

  22. Alexa says:

I absolutely LOVE that dress – it’s heavenly and she looks great in it. Her hair is beautiful too. RE Drew: that is one of the most unflattering pics of her face that I’ve ever seen. Come on!

  23. UniqJaz says:

Steve Carell is losing his hair again.

  24. Nan says:

Like Keira’s dress and hair. Wish she had chosen more colorful shoes though.

  25. Jovia says:

I think Keira’s bad posture does not help anything but I wager the dress looks much better in person and simply does not translate well to the camera. She is well suited to this style, however, including the way her hair is done up. On anyone else this might look too precious and twee.

  26. lucy2 says:

Everyone looks good – as long as Keira doesn’t turn sideways and disappear.

  27. Ally says:

    This movie looks dreadful.

I loved Steve Carell on The Daily Show, The Office and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, but I cannot bear him doing his new mopey indie sadsack schtick in another movie.

And Keira Knightley? Did the casting director go with the IMDB random cast generator?

  28. ichsi says:

The dress is interesting at best, but I love what she did with her hair. I am also happy that she seems to have put on a teensy bit of weight, still, another 10lbs wouldn’t hurt her. She has an intriguing face that doesn’t deserve a scrawny frame underneath.

Holy shit, what has happened to Steve Carell? when did he become smoking?
