Duchess Kate wears the $55 ‘Wessex’ dress in London: glorified housedress?

I hope these are the first of many photos that we will get of the younger royals at Olympic events in the next two weeks. Are you excited? I’m excited. I can’t wait to see the swimming. And the beach volleyball! And the gymnastics, which is my favorite event. Prince Harry, Prince William and The DOC (the Duchess of Cambridge, I’m trying out a new nickname for Kate) were photographed earlier today “on the football pitch at Bacons College.” They were surrounded by kids, and while I’m not sure what the goal (ha!) was, it was a cute photo-op and I’m sure it had something to do with the Olympics. Let’s see… they were attending the launch of a new sports center. There you go.

The DOC was wearing the “Wessex” dress from Hobbs and LK Bennett wedges. The cost of the dress? £35 or roughly $55 – but you can no longer buy it. It’s already sold out. I’m not in love with this – it looks like what it is, basically – a mass-manufactured housedress. I’m guessing Kate got it tailored and she jazzed it up with a white belt, but at the end of the day, she’s just wearing a housedress. I’m surprised the DOC didn’t do a repeat for this event.

Meanwhile, CB sent me this story about The DOC that made me giggle, mostly because it’s so obviously written by Kate’s publicist. It’s nice and everything, and what Kate is trying to do is sweet. But a lot of “WAITY IS AMAZING” tidbits are dropped in:

For months now, the Duchess of Cambridge has been working with the Scout Association near her home in Anglesey, North Wales. The low-key role has proved to be one of her most rewarding and frequent commitments – with Kate often volunteering up to one evening a week.

So when the Olympic authorities invited their royal ambassador to nominate an inspirational torchbearer from amongst her patronages, she put fellow Scout volunteer Jon Sayer, 33 at the top of her list. To understand what it is about this unassuming Yorkshire man that caught her attention is to go back to the night of his birthday in August 2011.

On the beat as a volunteer Police Constable, Jon ended the evening rescuing a drowning man from the chilly waters of the River Calder, sacrificing a night of celebrations – not to mention his own life – to help someone else.

The reluctant hero told HELLO! Online: “Once you put on that uniform,as a paid policeman or a volunteer, you have been bestowed an honour and I was just acting on that” and added that he “didn’t really do anything”.

The Duchess of Cambridge disagreed.

And now, she’ll meet Jon as he carries the Olympic torch into Buckingham Palace on the eve of the London 2012 games.

This is one experience he isn’t playing down.

“To get to carry the Olympic torch is fantastic. That, and meeting the Duchess of Cambridge, who is a volunteer in Scouting herself, will be absolutely incredible – something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

[From Hello Magazine]

He sounds like a lovely man, and he should get to be part of the Olympics. But I’m still stuck on this whole “the Duchess of Cambridge has been working with the Scout Association near her home in Anglesey, North Wales…The low-key role has proved to be one of her most rewarding and frequent commitments – with Kate often volunteering up to one evening a week.” O RLY?!!? I’m sorry, I need proof of that, please.

More pics from today… how f—king cute is Prince Harry with those kids? Oh, and Will and Kate definitely look more engaged with each other. Somebody must have handed them a memo! “Try to look like you don’t hate each other, PLS.” The DOC even touched William briefly!

f*ck the dress. Harry with his hand on his belt buckle is DE-LISH!!!

    happy Thurs-day to me! 😉

  2. LizEgee says:

I like it. Its cute, breezy and seems to fit the location.

    • Turtle Dove says:

      +1

    • Alexa says:

+2 If part of your problem is the price, well – why must she wear something expensive all the time? I actually like her MORE for wearing the same sort of thing that commoners can wear.

      • Erinn says:

Honestly, people bitch all the time about the amount of money she spends on her wardrobe. Now she buys something us ‘peasants’ could afford and the growling continues. I think she looks nice. And it’s nice that she’s not wearing something ridiculously expensive.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

This is what I came here to say. When she wears fancy stuff all we hear about is her extravagance, but if she repeats something or dares to step out in off-the-peg schmattes, then they call her common. She can’t win.

Whatevs. I love that she buys vintage and OTP stuff. Good for her. She’s still a real person.

      • Raven says:

This lengthy event looks like anything could happen so why not wear an inexpensive dress? If it gets horribly stained or damaged, it won’t matter.

I also think she is working with the scouts. She doesn’t have to deal with the cameras or people critical of her every move.

    • ZenB!tch says:

+3 (or is it +5) anyway, I like that the real girl is still under there and occasionally escapes. I don’t get the Kate-hate. I find all the royals boring but she’s no worse than any of the others.

  3. Barrett says:

Is the hem crooked or is it just the way she is leaning in the last pic?

  4. 55 bucks? I want one! That is adorable!

  5. Feebee says:

What the hell’s a housedress as opposed to a dress that she’s obviously wearing outside the house?? Looking just fine too.

    • P.J. says:

It is less formal than what she usually wears, but appropriate for the occasion –a sports event — where the attire can be a bit more casual.

But an average size woman would look HUGE in this dress because of the pattern! Luckily Kate is so slim, she can get away with it.

    • corny says:

something you wear in the house, in 1950

  6. ramona says:

I think DOC looks lovely, actually – it’s actually hot here for once (seriously, it’s NEVER warm and we’ve gotten nice weather three days in a row, it’s a miracle) and she’s appropriate and lovely. And flats! Adorable.

  7. Lucy says:

She bores me. Harry on the other hand excites me that is all

  8. hoya_chick says:

There is something about a man (even an unattractive one) in a crisp, clean white button down shirt, yum Harry looks great and I am not even into him usually. William looks good too…surprisingly. Must be the shirts. No comment on DOC (not sure this will stick Kaiser, let’s stick with Waity :).

    • Patricia says:

Agreed!!! I’m not attracted to these two but I always hear zz top when I see a man nicely dressed. Makes me – just – want – to – die 😉 Don’t skimp fellas…
“Every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man”

  9. Anne de Vries says:

I like it, it’s a nice silhouette for her and I like the print.

Even though I don’t care about her at all, I have some sympathy for the fact that no matter what she wears, designer or retail, she is ALWAYS going to get it wrong according to some.

    • LAK says:

@Anne – it really isn’t about her clothing choices even though that appears to be the only important part of her public role, to her.

It is about her work record. I am pretty sure that most, if not all, her detractors were willing to give her a chance on her marriage. She, herself, mentioned it in her engagement interview so it’s hardly something she was unaware of in taking on the RF and what they represent.

I suppose we are affronted partly because all the other royal houses, even Monaco, have acquired accomplished CP. She has is merely continuing what she did pre-wedding inspite of promising that we would see a new and improved waity.

Despite assurances to the contrary, she continues to show us how unprepared for the role she is, she was, and continues to be. She is a very poor ambassador for GB.

Instead she parades infront of us in fashion meaning that it has become the focus of her. Don’t get me wrong, I am pretty sure that all the other royals are wearing more expensive fashion choices, even Anne who recycles. The trade off is duties which Waity doesn’t pretend to care for or do very much of.

And before people say, as they usually do that The Queen is in charge of her schedule, several royal reporters have asked the palace directly this very question, and the reply is always that Kate herself is in charge of her duties, and pace of them.Royal reporters are not tabloid hacks.

As for the scouting fiction, given how much the palace is at pains to publicise her achievements, including a £300k donation etc, it’s simply amazing that nothing has been said about these scouting expeditions bar one set of photos where she looked completely disengaged from the children. I am with Kaiser, I have to see proof rather than be told about it, by Hello Magazine no less which is Kate’s personal pr mouthpiece.

All of that said, could someone please help her locate her waistline. The belt is too high up her body. A tailor is very much needed because once again, she’s ruined a cute dress by not getting it to fit right.

      • bluhare says:

I wish I could remember where I saw this, but I did see an article with tweets from people regarding a cook out Kate did with the scouts on Anglesey. So she might actually volunteer off the grid.

      • Anne de Vries says:

Sorry, I meant that people bitch when she wears expensive designer fashion AND when she wears retail clothing. There’s just no way to please everybody.

I get what you’re saying about her ‘work’, but I’m afraid I can’t work up more than a mild “ehhh” about the whole thing. Just as I can’t work up a care for the rest of the British royals. Or indeed, the royal house of my own country.

  10. Valerie says:

What is a housedress?? A dress is a dress is a dress!

    • bluhare says:

I always thought a housedress was a bathrobe with buttons.

    • Ally says:

      I picture a Mumu (sp)?

    • Ramona Q says:

I think a house dress is a dress that looks like the kind of dress that housewives wore in the ’50s/’60s.

Maybe with a different color belt, but I like that dress.

    • fancyamazon says:

A housedress is any casual style dress. Normally very simple in nature. Back in the day it was a dress appropriate for housework due to it’s simple styling, as well as being suitable to run errands in or meet other women for coffee and whatnot.

  11. AmyLynne says:

Harry is just infinitely hotter than William. I’ll be distracted from work for the rest of the morning, just looking at him. Yum.

In that last picture, Kate looks has a “grin and bear it” look on her face, so idk how well that memo not to hate each other is going over :p

  12. GoodCapon says:

‘with Kate often volunteering up to one evening a week. ‘ Wow, sounds like hard work!

She’s really playing it up to the cameras in these photos (and in other events too) She’s so disgusting.

Less pics of Waity, MORE pics of Harry please!!! 😀

  13. Happymom says:

Oh come on. They always look cute together and like they’re into each other. I think she looks great. However, considering the heat and the occasion, a pony tail would’ve been adorable.

    • GoodCapon says:

But then she wouldn’t be able to touch and flip her hair like a maniac. That simply wouldn’t do!

      • Happymom says:

I think the playing with her hair is a nerves thing. Perhaps because everyone is watching and critiquing her every move? Just a thought . . .

      • GoodCapon says:

But she’s in the public eye for almost a year now, surely she’s used to all the fawning and attention? If she isn’t then she should find another outlet for her nervousness.

And I find it strange that before this, when she was still Waity Katie, I’ve never seen her flip her hair so maniacally like now. I know she wasn’t as popular back then, but still… this is a habit that she only picked up after the wedding.

      • Sachi says:

@ Happymom – Sorry, but I’m not buying the nerves excuse. She has been photographed countless times when she was still the royal girlfriend and she never played with her hair like this. She’s used to the media’s attention and she has actively courted it several times in the past to further her own gains, so I doubt she’d suddenly have a change of heart now when she never shied away from all the attention before.

And really, she’s a 30-year old woman. If she’s so nervous, channel it in a different way. She looks so childish and unprofessional fiddling with her hair when interacting with others and always touching it like she has OCD.

She’s an adult, she should be able to handle these things in an efficient manner. She’s not the only commoner-turned-royal who’s had to deal with this kind of attention, yet she’s the only one who has looked so unprepared and juvenile time and time again.

@ GoodCapon – Too true. She never used to touch her hair excessively until after her wedding when she’d use excessive hand movements to show off Diana’s ring. If she weren’t holding her clutch in bizarre poses to make sure the ring was in full view, she’d constantly touch her hair with her left hand so everyone didn’t miss Diana’s ring.

Now the habit has stuck and she fiddles with her hair even when there’s no wind blowing it and she’s become too aware of the cameras that she fixes her hair to make sure she always looks good. She’s become too image-conscious to the point of being vain. If it’s a matter of having hair all over her face, then put it all up in a ponytail! Keeping it loose and then fiddling with it just looks silly.

      • LAK says:

@sachi – have you noticed her hair is appropriately restrained when she is with The Queen. Doesn’t touch it or fiddle with it.

    • Suzie says:

Celebitchy, why didn’t you include the photos of them driving up in the car where they look like they can’t stand each other? They reminded me of the old Charles and Diana photos.

And why is everyone fixated on how much her dress cost? I’d be curious to know the cost of Will and Harry’s outfits.

      • LAK says:

those pictures gave me deja vu chill!!

There is more than many occasions recently when they look like that in the car but smile once out. I am trying to find a good video shot of them in the car so i can see the motion.

It would really be too bad if they are at Charles & Diana circa 1992 already.

    • Ramona Q says:

Oh, yes, a ponytail! Good idea there.

  14. Jaded says:

Royals aren’t really supposed to “touch” eachother in public so she’s definitely breaking with protocol *clutches pearls and gasps*

    • Sachi says:

Please. Royals not touching each other must be for the Windsors only, because the other royals (yes, they do exist outside of England) are not shy about PDAs.

The Norwegian, Dutch, Spanish, Swedish, and Belgian royals are all very affectionate with each other and their spouses. Holding hands, staying close together, exchanging loving looks, even kissing on the lips, are naturally and usually displayed by other royal couples. Even when they’re not standing together, they all have a connection to each other that makes it obvious they are married and in love. William and Kate are out of sync compared to other royal couples who’ve been married more than 5-10 years.

The Windsors look so frigid in comparison. But even HM the Queen and Prince Philip exchange looks from time to time that show you those two have deep love and respect for each other. Same for Charles and Camilla.

    • LAK says:

Actually the royals not touching is a media fiction to explain why Diana and Charles went from lots of affections and touching to nothing. Their marriage was dead by 1985 but the public didn’t pick up on the signals until about 1990 and then it became an avalanche of barely concealed contempt for each other. Until 1990, they were very good at keeping up appearances, but the difference in body language was very glaring.

The older generation of royals are simply a product of a different age where PDAs were not the norm even for regular people.

There are plenty of pictures/videos of Charles and Diana, Andrew and Fergie, Edward and Sophie, Anne and Captain Philips touching, being affectionate etc. Even the Queen and DoE and Charles and DoC are affectionate in public. You never get the sense that there might be anything wrong with their relationship.

It’s just these two that are oddly cold towards each other in public. That glimpse of affection immediately after the wedding appears to have disappeared as they’ve settled into married life. I imagine that they spent so many years trying to hide their relationship from paps that it’s habit now for them not to touch unless it’s necessary.

  15. Emily says:

I like the dress, and I’m always amazed she manages to find so many dresses with short sleeves. So, clearly I need to check out this Hobbs brand.

    • iseepinkelefants@hotmail.com says:

Hobbs is great (mostly tailored wear) but it’s pricey. Even their NW3 (younger, less costly) range doesn’t sell for under £75.

  16. Dawn says:

I like these three and could care less about the price of her dress. On her it looks great.

  17. Megan says:

I actually really like this one 🙂 and Harry is yumm

  18. wonderwoman21 says:

Prince Hot Ginge! Prince Hot Ginge! PRINCE HOT GINGE!!! *flips desk*

  19. iseepinkelefants@hotmail.com says:

So the lesson from this is invite Harry to all of their events?

Harry has the common touch and has the ability to make anyone and everyone smile. It obviously helped these two out.

Now if they can somehow get him to go everywhere with them the public might actually start to like them…

And I’m not buying Waity spends one night a week with scouts. Picture proof please. Especially hard to believe when she’s in London every week. What does she fly in for an hour and then fly out?

    • bluhare says:

I said to LAK above that I saw something somewhere with tweets from people, about a cook out Kate hosted on Anglesey. I’d go google it, but my google searches usually end up with me drooling at net a porter. Funny how that happens.

      • Sachi says:

All I saw was a tweet from Richard Palmer, a royal correspondent, saying that Kate was in Anglesey that one time and had a BBQ with some kids, and “taught” them how to gut a fish. As if.

And then another tweet saying his/her brother was invited to Kate’s BBQ.

That was it. 2 tweets, vague ones at that and nothing else.

Kate must be a ninja. She just shows up at one place without anyone else knowing. We just get tweets that she’s either off on a secret visit right now, or it was already done hours ago.

Or, perhaps her PR team just don’t tip the press since the visits are either truly private, or they’re made-up to make Kate look like she’s doing something other than shopping and getting her hair done.

Not even one photo as proof is just suspicious.

The press knew what time and when Kate would be at Tesco shopping for groceries, yet they couldn’t ferret out where she’d be when doing charity work?

So how does the media find out all about it if Kate’s PR team aren’t tipping them off to build up Kate’s image? And the Tesco trips were only done 3x and then never again, when Kate was portrayed as “one of us”, before all this bad press started happening.

All of her “secret” visits come in the wake of bad press. Whenever there’s a hint of criticism in the media, her PR team comes out with, “The Duchess visited a centre for troubled teens this afternoon.” tweets and small announcements, and we’re all just supposed to take their word for it.

      • LAK says:

@Bluhare – net-a-porter is a black hole of fashion porn. That lady knew what she was doing.

And i was about to reply re-the tweets but i see @SAchi has beaten me to it. I agree with her sentiments. We only have only a handful of occasions that she has been with children and it’s confirmed by the palace and photos. The Anglesey beach roast has no pictures and whilst i normally trust Richard Palmer’s tweets, i want pictures.

I also do not trust Hello because they have been her/the Middletons’ mouth piece for many years.

      • Liza Jane says:

There were all sorts of pics of the cookout..I saw them in mags in Canada, saw Twitter pics also, she looked thrilled to be there, was very hands on and the kids loved it! It was not an official event so quite low key!!! I think they both prefer a quiet life and hate posing for the press, hence the grins and hair pulling!! To me,who did this as a young woman too,it is very indicative of nerves.

  20. Kaboom says:

Harry will make an excellent inappropriate uncle once Kate finally pops out the heirs.

  21. Esti says:

This dress is adorable. And seriously, after all the hand-wringing about how expensive her wardrobe was, it’s a bit much for people to then get upset that she’s wearing something cheap.

  22. BW says:

I tend to think of Camilla as the DOC, Duchess of Cornwall.

  23. Suzy (from Ontario, Canada) says:

She can’t win. If she spends a ton of money on a dress then tabloids blast her for spending so much money on clothes. If she buys something a commoner would buy then she’s blasted for that. I think she should be allowed to wear whatever she likes and who cares if it only costs $55!

I wasn’t crazy about her (based on nothing) but from what I’ve heard about her interactions with the common folk, she seems to be quite a thoughtful and kind person.

Love Harry! And yes, he’s gorgeous! It’s so ironic…when they were young William was the one everyone said was so good looking and Harry was sort of ignored, but now the tables have turned. He’s really grown into his looks and I think he’s turned out much more handsome than his brother (or anyone else in the Royal family frankly)!

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

as a tax paying commoner of England who is finding very hard to respect or see any promise in her future state head , i will be very grateful if you will share these interactions that you are talking about.thank you in advance.

    • LAK says:

      What thoughtful interactions??? Where??

  24. GoodCapon says:

High-waisted belts are quickly becoming a staple of her wardrobe… *snicker*

  25. Hmmm says:

An apt description of that dull dress as ‘house dress’. Very hausfrau. It matches Waity’s personality.

  26. karen says:

Hobbs is a bit more pricey than that, the dress was probably over 100 and now on sale for 35. Anyway, the gee I’m so spend-thrifty because after I wear my my 49K necklace I’m only spending 35 on this dress nevermind I have a closet full of gray dresses already that I already bought. It’s all BS. Kate the Fake continues on in her merry little world.

Why is she so orange??? Not classy.

  27. HME says:

Dress is cute but the shoes are fug. Isn’t it really hot in London right now? All I can think is how hot her hair must be. She looks really great in a ponytail, I don’t understand why she doesn’t wear them more often.

Harry looks so hot!!! More Harry pics please!!

  28. RobN says:

She looks lovely and appropriate for the occasion. Everybody looks happy and having a good time with the kids.

Not sure what else anybody can expect from her. It’s a photo-op and designed to give the kids a cool memory. Seems pretty successful on both counts.

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

she looks appropriate ? it was a sporting event and she wore heels and loose hairs , who on earth is that appropriate for a sporting event?

      • RobN says:

Uh, she’s wearing a low wedge that goes with the summery dress. Perfectly appropriate. Loose hair? She’s hanging out with kids, she’s not running the mile. Perfectly appropriate.

      • LizEgee says:

well she was just watching a sporting event. its not like she was running in it or something.

      • bluhare says:

And she’s not wearing stockings!! The horror!

  29. KG says:

Waity and William look very tan, dare I say they appear to have just gotten back from a vacation?

  30. jenna says:

I think she looks pretty cute. This dress is not as “old” as some of her ensembles, and it looks fairly appropriate for the occasion. If you check out the photos at the Daily Mail she also looks a little more into the whole thing than she has at many of her previous events.

As for the “secret” scouting volunteering, I could actually believe that she has been doing some work with the scouts (though “up to once a week”…? not so sure about that…) and that it hasn’t been widely publicized. If I were a parent, I would not want my kid’s weekly scout meeting to routinely get turned into a royal photo op. So I could believe that the scouts said that volunteer work at regular weekly meetings would need to be kept under wraps and low-key.

  31. karen says:

Sorry to reply twice, but on earth does up to one evening a week mean? That sounds like one time she had two events a week apart. There were thee reported in the press, two camps (once w lupo, once where she helicoptered out to watch polo), and the bbq at her place where “she taught them how to gut a fish” (ie pointed at the fish while someone else did this, yes?)….although she’s in London twice a week to get her hair done, so you know priorities.

    • fairy godmother says:

Does anyone really believe anything her PR puts out?

I think what these so-called events she has been “secretly” attending are counted by Waity closing here eyes, clicking her heels 3 times, and saying “I wish I was there”.

  32. pink giraffe says:

Actually I thought her dresses were getting kind of boring. This one is very pretty, regardless of price.

  33. Mar says:

I love her dress, her hair-and the way she carries herself.

    Pure Class!!!

  34. The Original Denise says:

Boring, just like her. God, I miss Diana; I loved the way she put her outfits together.

  35. XOxoXO says:

I think she has a bun in the oven because she doesn’t look emaciated anymore.

    • Mom says:

I hope the future queen of England is pregnant! The high-riding belt might be camoflauging her waistline.

I love everything she does and wears. I don’t think the world will ever be pleased with what she wears; inexpensive or otherwise.

She did her own makeup for her wedding. She is sunburned and something didn’t come together for her. She’s young. Cut her some slack for not being perfect 1x.

  36. L says:

To me a house dress is the robe/dress my grandmother would wear around the house. (http://www.fashion-incubator.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/house_dress_fixed.jpg)

I wouldn’t describe this as even close to that. It’s a cute daytime summer dress. It’s also tailored really nicely.

  37. CT says:

lol, what’s a housedress? Nobody wears dressed around the house anymore. This isn’t the 1950’s. People generally wear sweats or pajamas around the house; at least they did the last time I was in contact with a person.

    • Lushus L. says:

LOL. When Mr. Lushus complains, I say ” Pajamas are clothes.”. Is that wrong?

  38. XOxoXO says:

Also because look how low those heels are compared to what she usually wears. And yeah, that high waisted belt.

  39. Anne says:

She actually looks like she put on some weight. I like it.

    • mandy says:

You’re kidding, right? She looks like a strong wind would blow her right over.

      • Anne says:

lol no I wasn’t! I seriously thought her arms and legs looked thicker, but I just saw pic’s on Lainey’s site of her with blue jeans on. You’re right, she is still very much a toothpick.

  40. Nymeria says:

I very much like the nickname “Waity,” whereas I don’t at all care for “The DOC.” However, if you’re itching for a change, why not try “The Derp”? Willy can be “The Herp.”

  41. Katie says:

Love the dress but her make up looks horrendous.

  42. bettyrose says:

I really like that dress and it’s cute to see her and wills seeming so happy in those pictures.

  43. Dana M says:

    Love Harry AND the dress.

  44. JennJennM says:

I like the colors and pattern of the dress, but high-waisted loose-fitting dresses like this one and the yellow frock she wore in Canada are unflattering to her low-waisted, thin frame. That sort of style is better suited to high-waisted, slightly pear-shaped US First Lady Michelle Obama. The Duchess of Cambridge’s long, lean torso is a perfect fit for the sheaths that she is known for.

  45. Mrs.Krabapple says:

Surprisingly, I like it. For two reasons: (1) she has a weird way of making everything she wears look cheap, even really expensive clothing. But this dress IS cheap, so there’s nothing she can do to “ruin” it. It looks exactly like it should. And she didn’t waste money.

And (2), she looks her worst (i.e., OLD), when she’s trying to look royal. When she doesn’t try so hard, she looks more natural and younger.

    So, yeah, I like it.

  46. Cam S says:

She is like Mary Poppins. Practically perfect in every way. So nice to see classy, elegant styles coming back. Longer hems, sleeves etc

  47. JulieM says:

I have no respect for this woman, however, I think she looks good here; I like the dress. It’s more flattering than the fugly expensive crap she wears. Casual and appropriate for “mingling” with kids.

    Harry is The Natural here.

  48. fancyamazon says:

So she isn’t allowed to wear an inexpensive dress nor an expensive piece of jewellery nor anything more than once nor should she waste money buying a new dress for every occasion?

Sigh, I’m confused, and I think she looks fine.

  49. Fofototto says:

Who cares about the Duke and Duchess of Boring? Bring on Prince Harry!!!

  50. ANGELIC 20 says:

    please kaiser, more harry

  51. garvels says:

    Yawn……..

  52. Sachi says:

She looks alright, I like the design of the dress. You can’t go wrong with a simple dress like this.

The (always) problem is her hair. It looks so overdone with it being too thick and having too much volume. It looks so fake and it doesn’t match the image she’s trying to portray.

You wear a $55 dress but you show up looking like you spent 3 hours at the salon getting your hair done? Doesn’t make sense. If you can only ‘afford’ a cheap dress, then you wouldn’t have time and money to spend getting your hair blown-out and colour-treated just to show up to a casual event. A ponytail would have sufficed.

Pippa’s hair, limp and thin? That is Kate’s real hair. That was how her hair used to look before she started using hair extensions and whatever else she’s doing to her hair to make it look like it’s steadily growing day by day.

Makeup is too thick for a daytime event.

    William is fugly.

Harry is hot! I love seeing him in crisp white shirts. Although my favourite is when he’s in his polo uniforms. He looks so tall and lean and athletic. 😀

  53. kellyinseattle says:

I think she looks cute and it’s nice to hear of a celeb not spending 1000s on an outfit.

    • Sachi says:

      Um…

This is only the 2nd time she wore a cheap dress like this since she got married. The 1st time was that blue ZARA dress she wore the day after her wedding

Most of her outfits, shoes, and accessories are designer brands costing upwards of $500 per piece of clothing, especially the McQueen outfits.

This cheap dress is an “anomaly” for her. It’s not her norm. She spent $160,000 on clothes for one year attending only 60-70 events or so, and that is only because the Palace counts every event per day, so if she went to 3 short events that only lasted 30-45 minutes each, then that counts as 3 separate royal duties, not one day of activities. That’s like $2600 on an outfit per day. Hardly “nice”.

  54. HoustonGrl says:

    She looks like a 1950s housewife…oh wait.

    • Sachi says:

If her hair gets any more ‘bouffant’, paired with those 1950s-inspired outfits she likes to wear, she’d really look like she just stepped out of a time machine from the 1950s.

  55. princesslizabeth says:

I like Kate…The DOC, that is.

I have to laugh at this quote from the article, though:

“…with Kate often volunteering up to one evening a week.”

WOW, that’s really going out on a wing time-wise, isn’t it?

  56. gg says:

Ugh, I would die if I were forced to wear dresses all the time.

  57. Summer says:

Sachi – calm down, you’re gonna choke on that Kate hate.
The “bad press” you think Kate gets is in your head. She is hugely popular in the UK.
The cookout with the Scouts that you seem to think didn’t happen because you only saw a few tweets? Best google it as the Daily Mail had quite a few pics.
And she “likes to wear 1950s” outfits? Umm, do you mean dresses? Cos that’s what I see her wearing, but they’re not 1950s styles.
I also enjoyed your accounting of the money spent on her wardrobe as working out to $2600 a day which somehow was not “nice”. Regardless of the fact that the expenditure was paid by Charles – and therefore it’s pretty reasonable to suggest he didn’t find it excessive, and hes not a spendthrift – she’s the wife of the heir and is expected to look and dress appropriately. Unless you think she should be wearing 1950s style potato sacks…
As for your belief about “hair extensions”,lol. I also suggest you google pics of Kate’s hair pre marriage including her university days as she’s always had thick hair. Oh and 2 people in the one family can have different types of hair you know.
Finally – she can’t have a nice blowout because shes wearing an inexpensive dress? Do you realise how snobbish that sounds? I wear clothes in the $55 range, so does that mean I shouldn’t pay any care to my personal grooming?!
Oh and Kate wearing inexpensive clothes is NOT an “anomaly”. She gets hammered by fashion writers for being the ‘high st duchess’ because her clothes aren’t couture. Incidentally she’s worn more than 1 Zara dress since the marriage, not just the blue one.

    • angelic 20 says:

What UK are you talking about, the one I live in Kate is not popular.in a recent poll she came only a place above Camilla when asked the royal you would like to meet.prince Charles gets tax cut on his earnings, so tax payers are in directly paying for her clothes plus the palace she is renovating plus the security, so we have every right to criticise her spending given the fact that her pr promotes her as thrifty. She spends way too much considering her work load and fake pr image.princess letizia of Spain looks far far better, stylish modern and professional them her and she is a crown princess,a full time royal with many state visits to foreign countries and yet she costs 1/4th of Kate’s clothing budget.even her pr image is false and fake just like her hair.

      • Another K says:

Angelic 20 is way too invested in the whole William/Kate/Harry scenario. It’s just the royals doing their usual stuff. Some of us don’t like Kate, some of us do. Some of us like William, some of us don’t. Some of us like Harry, some of us don’t. Calm down. It’s not worth stroking out over. Take a deep breath and relax. This is supposed to be entertaining gossip; it’s not that important. Really.

      • angelic 20 says:

Another k, I am too invested in royals how? Just because I have opinions about them and come here to comment because other boards do not allow one to debate freely,i become too invested in them seriously? Looks like invested is the new thing going on after hater or . jealous .i like debating here because it is easy and people are brainwashed by the media.

    • GoodCapon says:

A post full of misinformation and IGNORANCE. I don’t even know where to begin…

    • Sachi says:

      LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

      Hysterical.

I’m never gonna choke on my Kate “hate” since I don’t take her seriously. I like commenting on her because I have my opinions of her. I’m allowed to do that, am I not? I’m allowed to have an opinion?

And unlike you, I don’t base my comments from sugary articles and propaganda. Whatever I say about Kate, I gleaned from reliable and neutral UK news sites. I don’t blindly hate/adore Kate. She’s nothing to me.

She doesn’t affect my life one bit. After I leave this website and I’ve said my piece, I don’t think about her at all.

And what hate? Criticisms are called hatred now? So I can’t criticize Kate because that would mean I hate her? How mature of you.

If you’re new here, then you surely missed the many posts I’ve had in which I stated that I want Kate to succeed in her role, and I have defended her in some aspects like William’s treatment of her ie. cheating on her many times in the past.

I don’t dislike her as a person, I dislike the image she represents.

I’ve never called her anorexic or criticized her physical appearance aside from her hair and makeup. If I think she looked nice, I always said so.

Most of my comments are about her attitude, her laziness, her lavish spending, and her inappropriate behaviour at events.

Some comments here are worse than mine yet you latch on and answer with your own comment that is full of lies and fabrications that only a delusional fan can come up with.

You’re the one who should calm down. You sound way too invested in your adoration of Kate to defend her with such emotions, yet every thing you said was false and ignorant, as GoodCapon said.

I live in the UK. Do you think I’m not aware of how she’s perceived here? Popular, where? In the Daily Mail and Hello! magazine? Sure. If that helps you sleep at night.

Will it make you feel better if I apologized for my Kate “hate”, although you must know I don’t mean it one bit?

Then I’m sorry I’m not kissing Kate’s feet.

My comments on Celebitchy are nothing compared to what everyone else is saying about Kate on other websites.

If you think my comments constitute hatred, then you must not know real hate, and that is just sad.

    • Liza Jane says:

I agree.no matter what she does she’s wrong, poor girl, very stressful and her husband away such a lot, lonely for her..why people have .always gotta have a hate on for public figures?? How would any of you like such a goldfish bowl existence??

  58. molly says:

The dress is fine. She doesnt work nearly enough to wear the expensive clothes she does so this is the price she should be restricted to until she gets herself together.
But can we please focus on Prince Harry?! He is so damn genuine with those kids! Its fun to see the massive difference between him and his brother and Waity. Bill and Waity look like they were dragged there and they look so bored.

  59. chalkdustgirl says:

This poor girl gets slammed for wearing something too expensive then slammed for wearing something reasonably priced. Yikes.

    Personally, I like it!

    • angelic 20 says:

Who is slamming her for wearing this dress,i would actually appreciate her budget spending if she remain consistent with it but any way she looks good and I like her dress.

  60. skuddles says:

The dress is lovely and looks great on Kate, and only $55? What a steal!

  61. Mich says:

“DOC”? Really? Makes her sound way too smart.

I saw her called “Kate of Wills” the other day and giggled since nabbing him has been her one big achievement it life. It shortens quite nicely (KOW).

  62. LAK says:

Kaiser, DOC will be very confusing for us brits. There is already a DOC = Duchess of Cornwall.

  63. Al says:

I LOVE this dress. That’s really all I have to say.

  64. Jaxx says:

I wouldn’t wear the dress but I think she looks, young, fresh, and cool in it. The shoes are yuk, though.

    • JulieM says:

cw: I know it’s fun to speculate about this, since Harry appears to be one of the few member of the RF to pay any attention to her. But there is just no way Harry would do that to his brother. And she’s really not his type anyway.

  65. DB says:

Oh come on. Just let the girl be the girl. Don’t try to turn her into a wax figure or china doll.

If she wants to wear $55 dresses and spend 1 out of 5 days working with a specific charity in addition to all of her other tasks, why is that not OK?

This world can be so hypocritical. Folks want people NOT to be pretentious yet when they do act like a normal down to earth person, folks rip on them for not being elegant and classy enough?

    Confused. Frustrated.

Just let her be who she is. She seems to be doing ok. She’ll find her path.

  66. Darlene says:

I think the dress looks lovely on her. I don’t have the shape for a belt like that, but she does. (And in a dress like that, for a short time, she could hide a bump!)

  67. telesma says:

The dress is fine, not any better or worse than anything else she wears. I’m more concerned about her bronzer situation.

  68. Mel says:

I can’t imagine wearing that dress if they paid me for wearing it. Seriously.
And certainly not because of the price.
It’s just hideous. In my opinion.
