Eva Mendes in black lace Dolce & Gabbana at the AFI Fest: gorgeous or tweaked?

Last night, Eva Mendes walked the carpet at the AFI Fest for both On the Road and her own movie, Holy Motors. It was weird seeing Eva in the On the Road photo grouping, and I kind of wonder if she didn’t accidentally wander onto the On the Road red carpet when she thought she was at her own premiere. Eva wore the same dress for both appearances – a pretty Dolce & Gabbana dress in black lace. She wears a lot of D&G, and it suits her. She’s got a great figure, and when she does the “Sofia Loren style,” it works on her. The problems come when she veers away from tight and sexy with big hair.

This was her first red carpet in nearly two months – the last time she made a red carpet outing, it was at the Toronto Film Festival, and she was wearing a ridiculous turban. So… this was an improvement on the style front. Unfortunately, for this carpet, Eva did not have Ryan Gosling by her side. I think Ryan is still in Texas filming that Terrence Malick movie with Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and others. I’ve heard from some Gos-watchers that Eva has not been in Texas with him… but she’s been filming a movie in Boston, so maybe they’ve been separated for legit reasons and they’re still very much together. Or not. Who knows?

She looks uncomfortable not happy. Dont like the hair, her body language is off. Something is wrong? Can’t get a ring?

    • videli says:

      Ugh, great assumption…

    • Liv says:

Haha, Isa! 😉 And I agree, her hair colour doesn’t suit her…if she weren’t such a bitch, she’d actually be beautiful.

      • wild flower says:

Don’t know much about her. What makes her earn your disdain?

      • Liv says:

Just search for older posts about her and read the comments – there are plenty of storys about her being a bitch to everyone but Ryan Gosling 😉

    • deehunny says:

I’m tired of all my latin ladies trying to go honey blonde. It’s not flattering.

Like the dress: she’s playing it safe. I agree, something about the pics– either the body language or the face– shows that she’s not happy here.

      • Victoria says:

Agreed. I get so mad when I see really bad blonde dye jobs and want to shake the person who did it to them. Blonde isn’t flattering for everyone

    • Sarah Silander says:

Agreed, body language is off but I think it’s because the 1 size too small dress is forcing her to suck in her tummy in a major way.

SO tired of these lace dresses because the lace looks very budget-priced and it’s the same lace even on the designer ones.

  2. werqit says:

STUNNINGLY Gorgeous, one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Very Monica Belluci like, womanly figure, simply beautiful. Not sure why celebitchy gives her such a hard time, maybe it’s because she gets all the hot guys and Kaiser is jealous! Ha!

    • Mini-Me says:

Werqit sayeth, “Haterz are just jealous”

    • blueanemone says:

excuse me but you need glasses. monica belluci is exquisite…this woman is not in the least attractive. i’m sorry but i don’t get the appeal. you can even see her cheek implants and her too botoxed forehead! Her buck teeth and joker eyebrows are nothing to write home about. i’m not a hater, far from it, but there are much more attractive women than this one. her personality doesn’t help either.

      • xoxokaligrl says:

I’m glad it wasnt just me who noticed those awful cheek implants.

Yeah her style is just awful and the hair color. That comparison from the original poster is off.

      • Dani says:

She’s actually always had cheeks like that. Even as far back as the maid of honor role in A Night At The Roxbury from 1998.

  3. RN says:

The hair is not flattering to the outfit and looks fried on the right side of her head. She looks like she can’t take a deep breath and wants to bolt. I don’t get “sexy” vibes, only tense.

  4. Kaboom says:

    I like.

  5. Nya says:

    Her face looks terrible

  6. Abby says:

This is a great outfit for her. Her hair doesn’t look it’s usual glossy self though.

  7. Minky says:

I love the dress! She looks very striking here, but as others have noted, something looks off…

  8. valleymiss says:

She looks pretty, but in that one photo showing kind of the side of her face, she looks like she’s got a cheek implant. It’s very Chicken Cutlet chic.

    • French says:

yes I think there’s something with her face but I can’t find what

    • Eleonor says:

I thought the same thing. I hope it’s only wrong makeup.

    • Kimbob says:

Yeah, yeah…that 3rd pic of her is scary…..that’s not a normal cheek!

Otherwise, she looks good, though. If she is screwing w/those chicken cutlet cheeks, then I say how unfortunate…as she does not need to!

    • Cazzee says:

I thought the same thing! “Hmmm…Are those cheekbone implants?” This could be a good standalone Celebitchy story.

Now I am wondering if/when EM got cheekbone implants put into her face. It really looks like there is something weird about the side of her face – could it be a thread facelift, maybe?

Cheekbone implants tend to change everything about one’s face (see Meg Ryan) and so they tend to be obvious when people get them put in. Interesting.

      • e,non says:

        and esp cameron diaz…

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

It gives the face the sunken in look, especially when the person in question is past her forties and has already lost fat in the face due to age–Madonna and Barbara Walters, for instance. If there’s a worse set of implants than Judge Judy’s you find them.

  9. plum says:

She may not be rocking it as much here but she is beautiful. Makes me laugh how gos hards are just waiting for them to break up so he can go out with a basic girl next door type so they can feel better about themselves. Funny stuff.

  10. SusieQ2 says:

Love that dress! She is a stunningly beautiful woman, but I just don’t get her and Ryan Gosling together.

And I’m not a gos hard (Lol! Love that!) I like him as an actor but he doesn’t do anything for me.

Anyways, they seem to be happy so good for them.

  11. Nessa says:

What’s up with her face? It looks kind of weird to me. And her hair is awful. Love the dress, though. Her body is ridiculous.

  12. lrm says:

um, this screams PR relationship [she and RG and I could care less about either of them and have never seen either of them in a movie even-lol. it’s true]. but it’s so obv. to keep interest generated while they were filming and then for the promotional tour….
Similar to Halley Berry and Olivier M.
    Obv. not a real relationship.
It’s just not. You can tell and yes this is my educated opinion.(:

    • HadleyB says:

What PR ? She wasnt there with Ryan but she still looks uncomfortable.

Her face looks recently filled ( the bulge in the cheek is a dead giveway its not settled yet or there is still some edema ).

Body looks good, love the dress but the face is getting worse. When you date a much younger man, women tend to do too much to their face to look younger.

  13. MrsBPitt says:

I have never been an Eva Mendes fan…and I do not get her and Ryan together…but can I just say, I love, love, love her figure…THIS is what a womans body should look like…I pray for the day when women are not pressured to look like 12 year old boys…

    • valleymiss says:

I agree. Normal, healthy, etc. I’m not a Gos fan at all (he’s overrated in the looks dept…I’d take the other Ryan, Reynolds, any day!) But Eva is gorgeous.

    • Nya says:

No, a woman’s body should look however each individual woman wants their body to look.

    • Cazzee says:

I love the Italian, old-school, va-va-voom kind of look! She really has a beautiful figure, and that dress sets it off to perfection.

    • bns says:

Some women naturally have boyish figures, and that doesn’t make them any less of a woman.

    • Shelley says:

There is no such thing as how a woman’s body is supposed to look. Having a boyish figure does not make a woman any less sexy or any less of a woman.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

      Here comes the deluge…again.

  14. geekychick says:

I saw her in one of those “behind the scenes” thing, and her face looks different due too upper overbite.:/
But in the pictures, she always looks beautiful. The body, the face…
Never got the Gosling thing, and I don’t find either of them particularly interesting, so I won’t comment on anything else. 🙂

  15. Shoes says:

I shouldn’t read the twitter feed half awake. I thought it said she attended the screening in “black face” (instead of “black lace”), and I came in here completely confused.

Haha, since I was expecting to be appalled, the black lace looks fantastic. LOL.

    • Anguishedcorn says:

That’s exactly what I read at first, too!

    • Giselle says:

lol, i read “black face” too, and i probably wouldn’t have clicked otherwise.

she looks alright, the hair is 80s to me and her face does look strained or taut…but in general, meh.

edit: now that i look back at those pics, that last pic really does make her look like an abuelita with overdone…everything. ugh

  16. wonderwoman21 says:

I would love to see her with darker hair, instead of that lightened honey-crap hair all the Latinas in hollywood have.

  17. Stacy Dresden says:

Her forehead looks a bit ‘toxy to me.

  18. Allie says:

I love the dress. It’s her face that is the problem.

  19. Stacy Dresden says:

Her forehead looks a bit stiff to me, know what I’m saying?

  20. Alison says:

Her hair is FRIED. And her cheeks look fake. Don’t get me wrong – she’s beautiful. And I love how she dresses appropriately and has never even been seen in a slutty outfit or bathing suit. Great body…real! But her face…no. Just look it up. ‘Eva Mendes plastic surgery’…and these pictures are OLD. She’s definitely had even MORE work done. Her acting is not up to par. Hopefully with the right direction of Derek Gianfere’s new movie, she’ll save herself.

  21. Mara says:

She is very sexy and have amazing body!

  22. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I think she looks great, very sexy and old school Hollywood. Best I’ve seen her look in a while.

  23. Mazunte says:

This is the first outfit she wears on a read carpet that I really like since the premieres of the movie Last Night, where she wore a couple of nice dresses. I think it is a beautiful lace dress. Eva looks a bit uncomfortable but she is sexy.

    This is a great movie. A must-see.

  24. Lady_Luck says:

She looks great in this dress. Sexy dress and great figure. Her hair looks nice down. But man – her face is way too tweaked!!

  25. rachel says:

Meh- I think she looks kind of strikingly beautiful here- albeit clearly altered. Her nose shows those scalpel corners and her lip filler is not totally even. The eyebrows are what makes her look special in a Loren/Novak kind of way. But that is NOT just botox- its knife surgery, pulled up from the top. Still, all told, an improvement. When I saw her in Hitch a million years ago, I thought- ‘Wow, weird, how did this very ordinary looking girl into this Hollywood movie!”. She had no star quality. Now- yes. But she better be careful and QUIT while ahead except for very infrequent maintenance injectables. Don’t forget– Nicole Kidman looked incomparably lovely in the ‘Portrait of a Lady’ era and she had already gotten ALOT done– you can google shots of her as a young teen and she had a wide, undefined face, and no upper lip to speak of, not to mention she was naturally orange- not porcelain. Plastic Surgery made her, and when it started to destroy her (botox stopped working and eyebrows drooped instead of popping up) she went deeper into it instead of stopping.

  26. lucy2 says:

I like the dress, but the hair is too much.
I’ve never thought she was pretty, but I know lots of other people do. She does have striking features, I think that’s why the big hair bothers me with this look.

  27. Ranunculus says:

Aside from her promoting herself as Gosling’s PR bimbo at least now she is promoting something really great. Holy Motors is an absolute amazing movie. Agree with Mazunte it’s an definitely a MUST SEE! Sad the very talented lead actor, the brilliant Denis Lavant didn’t attend the screening. The guy should get an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Monsieur Oscar! He was astounding!

  28. Chelley says:

She looks kind of stiff but she looks gorgeous as usual.

  29. Mrs. Ari says:

I love that dress. If it were white I think it could make an interesting & hot wedding dress!

  30. Grace says:

From the shoulders down she looks fantastic.

  31. skuddles says:

    Budget, boring dress.

  32. salamanca says:

She looks somewhat old. Escpecially compare to Ryan.

  33. girlnamedgrace says:

God, I swear, sometimes I look at her and think she’s that British artist Tracey Emin.

  34. Sarah says:

Gosh, you are very hard on her ladies!
I know that she has CHOSEN to be in the public eye and that she knew it also meant being constantly “judged” on a wider scale
but the way you talk about some of her features is really abusive. She may have had some plastic surgery, who knows, but generally speaking she has nothing to do with the way she looks so let’s quit the highschool bully attitude here. I don’t like her as an actress neither but she remains a human being.

  35. abby says:

not aging well. whatever she went to rehab for has taken its toll.

  36. StaCat1 says:

Thank god she isnt’ wearing that god-d*** Norma Desmond turban….

  37. Kosmos says:

Don’t know that much about her. If she’s not a nice person, then I won’t like her either. Have to agree, the hair color is too light for her skin tone, put back the dark brown. She’s an attractive woman, which is why she had some movie roles. But not overly attractive.
