I haven’t written anything about Jonathan Rhys Meyers in nearly a year and a half. Back in June 2011, it was widely reported that Jonathan either attempted suicide by overdose, or that he accidentally overdosed/relapsed in London. He has a long history of substance abuse and of acting like a douche while under the influence (of drugs, maybe, but he’s definitely an alcoholic). He was hospitalized and since then he’s kept pretty quiet, except for the odd report about how he was still using and abusing after that June 2011 incident.
So it’s nice to see him out and about. These are photos of Jonathan and Natalia Vodianova doing press in Moscow for their film Belle du Seigneur. They filmed this together back in 2010, I believe. I wonder why it’s taken this long to come out? It doesn’t even have an American or European release date – so far, it’s only being released in Russia (maybe because Natalia is Russian). As for how affectionate Natalia and Jonathan seem… I don’t know. He’s so damaged and she’s so Russian. Reportedly, JRM and his long-time girlfriend Reena Hammer were done last year, but I don’t know if that breakup stuck, or if JRM is seeing anyone right now. Natalia divorced one really rich dude and last I heard, she was dating Antoine Arnault, heir to the LVMH fortune.
Incidentally, Jonathan is working again – next year, he’ll have a new TV show. A television adaptation of Dracula. I think it’s for network television too, so don’t expect JRM to spend the entire show randomly vampire-boning lovely ladies.

I don’t think he’ll ever kick his alcohol habit and it has obviously destroyed his looks. I agree with RN – definitely would not hit. I just feel sorry for the guy. He looks so lost.

I’m a perpetual fixer, so yeah, I’d hit him. Then I’d hug him thight for real long and bake him a cake while he’s asleep, all while keeping an eye on his facial expressions so I can tell if he’s having a nightmare, in which case I’d gently awake him and kiss all his fears away.
What the frack is wrong with me? Sigh.

I can’t tell if he really looks healthy because he looks so bloody depressed and unhappy.
He had charisma and magnetism but it seems gone.
He doesn’t have a booze bloat.
It makes me actually sad to see him look miserable.
Reena appeared to be his anchor. He’s times of sobriety seem to coincide with both looking their happiest. If she truly threw in the towel, I would assume (which isn’t right) that she had simply had it. They got together when she was quite young. She is quite educated, comes from a good family and probably finally went to enough Al Anon meetings that she realized she didn’t have to stand for his behavior anymore.
I speculate but he has talent and it’s another tale of the wrong road taken.
I don’t even have any interest in his new show (whenever it comes about).

He used to look stunning. Now he has dead eyes and looks very unhealthy and basicly like hell. So sad to see a talented artist like that.

He’s certainly had a turbulent life…with that being said, I still see kindness in his eyes.He is a tortured genius with a lot of pain and mental illness in his life. Jonny, continue with your beautiful journey, find happiness…people really do care about you.

He is such a beautiful man and I love his acting. He has a couple movies coming up and a new TV show. He has always had a sadness in his eyes — that’s the irish in him. I think he would be a fascinating person to talk to and I’ll watch him in anything

his real problem is alcohol (he did a movie in france with John Travolta for Luc Besson 2 years ago and his problem was alcohol at this time)
i don’t say he doesn’t mix with other stuffs but he’s a real alcoholic :it’s sad because he was nice in the set ( one of my best friends is a production assistant and accountant for Besson for a year)

@Audrey & @carrie, I wouldn’t doubt it one bit if he was into H. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve always felt a kind of kinship w/him because, although I’m clean & sober now, I had God-awful problems w/drinking…& consequently drugs (specifically H), as well.
Looking @ these recent pics of him sort of tells a story to me. Speaking of my own experience, I had pretty much slowed down my drinking @ one time in my life, but was so damn depressed, always was crying, & a drug-using/dealer “friend” of mine suggested I try H. I did, & found that I no longer cried…the H somehow gave me the energy & strength I needed to get through my days, get things done without experiencing crying jags. Of course my ending w/H was NOT GOOD..duh! I became seriously addicted….it was a MESS!
Anyway, for those who aren’t aware, H is a “close cousin” of alcohol…not necessarily chemically, but the way it affects the brain of alcoholics/addicts, & it’s a known fact that individuals w/the alcoholic gene, if they do try H, they’re pretty much hooked. H affects the brain in a similar fashion to how alcohol affects the brain…so…I’m not surprised to hear this rumor. That’s the way it went for me, & Jonathan even looks like he’s on an opioid (like H) in these pics.
Like I said, I’ve always felt a kinship to Jonathan….there’s a distinct sadness in his eyes/face that tells the story of a tortured soul who’s still wrenching w/his own demons. That was me @ one time, & I really, REALLY feel for him. When I was his age, that’s where I was.
My fervent hope is that if he’s lucky enough to live through all of this, he could possibly seek & receive the spiritual help that will finally put his personal demons to rest. I found that I had a LOT of growing up to do…a LOT of maturing to work through the wreckage of my past.
The powers that be were obviously on my side to allow this….& I hope they are on Jonathan’s side, as well.

You know what? He signed to star in Mortal Instruments. And they probably plan to do at least trilogy. And I wonder if Jonathan will survive to star in all of them or he will one day overdose and they would have to find another actor.
It’s really sad. It’s looks like Jonathan doesn’t care and doesn’t want to get help. And no one can make him. And what’s funny is that public doesn’t care! Why? Because Jonathan is drinking and does drugs IN PRIVATE. We don’t see him wondering around every day in clubs or get arrested somewhere in USA.
