This is just a funny story, although there’s a decent possibility that it’s just another “J.Lo got a maid fired, only not so much” story. I do think that Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart are leaving a lot of disgruntled and pissy former fans in their wake as Jennifer’s tour continues to roll through Europe and the Middle East. So, on that count, I kind of believe this story. Maybe I’m just preconditioned to believe “J.Lo Diva” stories. I’m sure it’s because of preconditioned sexism etc. But here’s further evidence:

Proving that the down-to-earth Jenny From The Block is ancient history, the singer reportedly pulled a hissy fit on board a United Airlines flight when a flight attendant innocently offered her a drink in first class, the new issue of Star magazine exclusively reveals.
“I just said, ‘What can I get you to drink?’ But Jennifer refused to even acknowledge me. She turned her head away and told her personal assistant, ‘Please tell him I’d like a Diet Coke and lime,'” the flight attendant told Star. “She wouldn’t even look at me. It was sad, she seems so sweet in her movies.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, earlier this month German newspaper Bild reported that the former American Idol judge had a hotel maid fired for daring to ask for an autograph – something that J.Lo denies – and another source who has worked with the 43-year-old star confirmed that Jen doesn’t lower herself to speak to the help.
“She doesn’t speak to salespeople, restaurant or hotel staff – or flight attendants,” the insider told Star. “She only talks through her assistants.”
I think the real Diva Move would be to refer to the person as “It”. Like, “Tell It that I want a Diet Coke. Tell It that I want a blanket too.” Anyway, do you have any problems believing that Jennifer Lopez doesn’t want to talk to “the help”? Considering she’s dating “the help” I’m not sure if this is possible, but it’s J.Lo, so who knows.
I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I think I’ve figured out the diva scale:
Highest Scale Diva: Mariah Carey. Obviously the top-most diva, the diva who can out-diva every other bitch out there. No one else exists in the vacuum of narcissism that is Mimi.
Medium-Range Diva: J.Lo – Somewhat of a diva, especially when it comes to making eye contact with “the help”. But I believe Jennifer is mostly professional, and she doesn’t have to make it all about “The J.Lo Show” at all times.
Lower-Grade, Insidious Diva: Gwyneth Paltrow – The Patronizing Diva. She will talk to the help and make eye contact with the help and she’s professional and all of that. But she will always let you know that you are beneath her, and that she’s only deigning to speak to you because she’s such a generous soul. She will also tell you to your face that you’re fat.

the fan was actually a comedian who PURPOSEFULLY gave madonna hydrangeas knowing she hated them. Madonna actually thanked him (though she did grimace).

Actually, I think JLo is pretty much at the top of the pile in terms of diva-ness. And one of my friends and I once met a makeup artist who worked with her. My friend asked, “Is she nice?” and the guy responded with that silent, slow headshake. You know, the one that comes with closed eyes and pulled-in mouth, because he can’t say much or risk losing work, but, wow, did he manage to say a lot without words.
She’s horrible. A former neighbor of mine used to work as an assistant for a studio executive. She had some funny stories, but the absolute worst was Jennifer Lopez. She arrived for a meeting and needed to use the restroom. When my neighbor started to give her directions, Looez’s assistant interrupted with ‘do not speak directly with Ms. Lopez.’
My neighbor dealt with a lot of A-List actors and she said Lopez was the worst.
Wouldn’t classify Jennifer as A-list. She thinks she’s A list but C-list at best. Don’t believe for a sec Hollywood is beating down her door for her great acting skills.
This business about not talking directly to the star may common because I met someone who had been a waiter in a very high end hotel. He said that once he had to be on room service duty and delivered a meal to a big macho action star (sorry can’t remember who). His assistant answered the door and instructed him not to speak to the Star, only to her.
On the other hand, someone else said he’d done some plumbing work at Jane Fonda’s house and described her as one of the nicest people he’d ever met. She spent a few minutes chatting, thanked the crew for coming on short notice, and had her housekeeper make lunch for them. That’s a classy star.
This is OT but all I can think of when I hear Jane Fonda now, is when she straddle and made out with poor Stephen Colbert. Bahahahaha it’s the best thing ever.

The stories about J-Lo are many. I remember the one about firing a maid or nanny because the woman did not report to work one day because her father was killed (allegedly). She has a reputation for being that way.
What’s crazy is that you could somewhat expect such behavior from people raised rich (like the Trumps, though I’ve heard decent things about them). Lopez was raised working class, and a large chunk of domestic and service workers are Hispanic, so she probably had neighbors who worked in this field. Just makes me dislike her more.
Actually, it’s more common than you may think. It’s the “proper” way to act if you employ help. As a child, I often got into trouble for talking to the “help” – my Nanny and the Maid. I thought the Nanny and Maid were a better class of people when I was 4-14 years old. They weren’t rude or abusive like my money hungry, status seeking, psychopathic, back stabbing birth parents who don’t talk to me now – because I didn’t become a doctor and I’m not in the social class they associate with. They are first generation multi-millionaires.

I happen to know that Caspar does NOT speak to the help, ie: the tour dancers. He used to tour with them with Britney and they were all buds, and now he won’t make eye contact, much less say hi. I know this because my daughter works with Brits tour make up artist, when she’s not touring with Brit/ She said all the dancers are pissed that he acts like he deosn’t know them now. & just last year they were all hanging out. So, if he does it, she does it too. he has been told not to speak to the lowly ones.

This is a widely known fact about JLo. As an FA, we know who is a good celeb and who is not – JLo has always been known as NOT. As indicated in the story she will not speak to the FAs even for safety related issues. It all must be cleared via her assistants. Also, she has had an airline concierge haul around her make-up case to be hand delivered to the aircraft and placed in an overhead bin. This is not a nice or courteous woman. Stories about her abound and all are similar to the one above.
I wonder what kind of emotional, spiritual or mental disconnect it takes to be a person who came from “nothing”, gain fame and fortune, and then treat “regular” people like that? For most of these celebrities, they are not that many years removed from being in the SAME position as the folks they won’t allow address them directly or that they refer to as “it”. Do they develop this behavior over time, or was it always there in some form? I just don’t get it.
Becoming rich and famous does not fundamentally change you. Instead, it magnifies who you already were before fame and fortune. If you were a jerk when you were poor and anonymous, you are a bigger jerk after you become wealthy and powerful. That’s what celebrities like Oprah have said when asked about fame.
Some successful people worked very hard to get to their privileged position. Others worked hard in a different way: they were plain ruthless and used people left and right to help them get what they wanted. These users try to hide their manipulative tendencies under a facade of kindness, at least until they become powerful or influential themselves. After that, they don’t try to hide the nasty personality. I can easily believe JLo belongs to the second group, as does Madonna. Those two certainly didn’t achieve fame through actual talent.
These users are asskissers to the powerful people who can help their careers and wallets. They don’t hesitate to offer themselves sexually to get something in return. They will discard anyone who’s no longer useful. They will diss those who aren’t equals in their eyes, and yet they surround themselves with entourages made up of sycophants and employees. JLo and Madonna have a history of this kind of behavior. This shit has existed in one form or another throughout the centuries.

I used to work for a star… very similiar in fame (coughs) to Jennifer Lopez. What people fail to recognize is that a star gets HUNDREDS of ‘commoners’ coming up to them daily, including staff, who start with “can I get you a coke” and with even that slightest toe-hold-of-a-“yes”-response it’s followed by:”I’m such a huge fan, my sister love you can I take a picture, will you sign my autograph…” I know, I know… such problems! But can you imagine having to do this 100 times a day? It would take you forever to do anything. THAT’s why big stars are bitches sometimes… to FREEZE PEOPLE OUT so they can get stuff done. What a no talent! Can’t act and can’t sing.
Would normally agree with Kaiser but through my former job I have actually spent some time at events where Mariah and J.Lo attended. At a record release party for Mariah with about 50 people in attendance, she hardly knew anyone but instead of just talking to her assistant she toured the room for a while being introduced to record company staff and actually chatted with the waiters and the DJ longer than with anyone else. She was shockingly nice. They introduced four young guys who had been part of the team putting up the promotion posters for her album around town and she told them where she had seen the posters driving by which made their day. She took pictures with everyone who asked. Admittedly this was some years ago, but it was not the beginning of her career, she was already a gazillionaire superstar with Marylin Monroe’s piano and Hello Kitty bathrooms.
J.Lo on the other hand would always go straight to the VIP area and speak only to her entourage- hairdresser, stylist, make-up artist who all hung out with her everywhere. Pictures with ordinary people- no way.
Don’t know anything about Gwyneth but since she likes to remind everyone how well-raised she is, she would likely talk to minions and make a show of how down to earth and polite she is to everyone, wouldn’t she?
I agree with you Viv 100% and here’s why: I mentioned in a previous post that my cousin was an executive producer for the Oprah Winfrey show for more than 16 years. One of her primary duties was lining up the celebs and dealing with them directly during the pre-production stage. She said Mariah Carey was surprising sweet, spoke to all the “lowly” assistants, and was quite gracious, and also didn’t really make a ton of ridiculous demands. JLo on the other hand? Bitch with a capital “B”. Attitude coming out of the ass, ridiculous demands (everything had to be white in her dressing room; white curtains, white carpet, white couches, bouquets of white flowers, and on and on and on. You get the point) She was even bitchy to my cousin, who at the time was one of the most senior executive producers. She refused to talk to any fans, sign autographs, refused to speak to anyone who she perceived as “beneath her”, which with her mammoth ego, was pretty much everyone, with the exception of Oprah. To say the least, no one on the show, INCLUDING Oprah was very impressed. Mariah may be a diva, but at least she’s kind of earned it. One of the greatest voices of our generation. Jennifer Lopez on the other hand has NO business acting all high and mighty as the girl cannot sing for shit (I actually sound better than her in my shower, and I’m terrible), and her movies are complete and total garbage. Remember “Bordertown”? Don’t worry, no one else does either. Or how about “Gigli”? Or “Anaconda”?, Yeah, now THAT was a quality film. when filming or promoting a movie, JLo flies commercial on the studio’s dime – very common for all celebs. She’s been to my town several times on commercial flights during film festivals and while filming. I don’t know but, maybe she flies commercial when doing music? All I know is that this is a very consistent story that many FAs including myself have witnessed.I can vouch for many others who have bad reputations e.g. Ben Affleck is not favored by ground staff, but has no problem with FAs. Jennifer Garner is a sweetheart to everyone as is Gwyneth Paltrow. Alec Baldwin is surprisingly sweet despite the situation that took place earlier this year. This reminds me of a recent revelation by a former flight attendant in Australia, who said that Elle McPherson was similar in that she pretended she didn’t even understand English, and would only speak in French to her assistant, who would then communicate with the flight attendant. So I guess that makes her a high range diva.
I believe it. Just look at pics of how she travels with her kids. They are usually back with the help while she is out front with her little man with the tiny head. And I consider her mom “the help” since she seems to travel everywhere in the back position as a nanny would. Can’t stand JHo.

Did she learn nothing when she made Maid from Manhattan? Obviously there was no method acting involved. It’s amazing to me how far up their own arses some of these divas manage to travel – just incredible.
I will say that when it comes to diva behavior, I LOVE Mimi or Mariah, even through everything…she still has a heart and a killer voice…while JLo has almost NO talent whatsoever, and I fully believe that she won’t talk to “the help.” She is completely narcissistic, folks…she thinks she is God’s gift to the world. So, if I never heard of JLo again, I would be thrilled, really!! And that black dress with the striped bottom is perfectly hideous, gag.
Well she seems to be a terrible person in person. It gets me to thinking that if I meet her I’m gonna get so pissed off with her that I won’t like her anymore. When it comes to diva behaviour I don’t approve of it whatsoever! If you want the fan support, like buy your CD’s, see your mediocre movies, see your boring concerts, then someone better start listening to somebody about an attitude adjustment. Jennifer has no business to act like a diva at all she can’t sing for shit! Plus her movies are all garbage remember Bordertown, don’t worry nobody else does either, and gigli, the worse of the worse and anaconda? She shouldn’t have to act like a diva for no reason. You would have to earn that title. She claims she’s all down to earth and how she was raised in the ghetto, how polite she is, which to me I think she is lying. It’s all a big front ladies and gentlemen as you’re beginning to see. How could she not talk to the help when considering she is dating the help [Casper the Ghost]. Slow down that EGO baby! In other words don’t bite the hand that feeds you! You’ll LOSE.
