Bethenny Frankel takes surfing lessons in Sydney, shows off bikini bod

These are photos of Bethenny Frankel in a bikini on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia today. She went alone and left her daughter back with her soon-to-be ex husband. We get the occasional paparazzi photo from Bondi Beach, usually of the much more camera-friendly Hugh Jackman making us bite our palms and stifle screams from our cubicles at work. It’s safe to assume though that Frankel called the paps here, and that she wanted to show off her lithe bikini body, which is her bread and butter if you will. I guess the idea is for us to see how great she looks and go out and buy Skinnygirl margarita mix.

Last month, when Bethenny announced that her foodie friend had lost 66 pounds following her Naturally Thin book, I looked up the reviews for her diet book on Amazon. It got mixed reviews, with one person summing it up as “Eat whatever you want as long as you don’t go over 800 calories a day, drink water, exercise as much as you can.” The gist is that Bethenny doesn’t recommend “depriving” yourself, in that you can have three little bites of anything, but you can’t have a whole cookie for instance, or a whole steak. She also recommends what another reviewer calls “neurotic, eating disordered behaviors” like pulling the bread out of half a bagel or English muffin and just eating the crusts. (Personally I would rather count calories, and anything under 1,200 a day makes me lightheaded.) So that’s how she achieved this enviable figure, and it sounds like a lot of suffering. It obviously works for her.

In terms of Bethenny’s career, she has a new talk show premiering this fall and she’s writing a book aboutthe struggles and compromises all single moms face.” As if, with all the money, help and fame she has, she has any idea what’s it’s like to struggle and compromise. Her “compromises” involve going to Australia instead of Italy, where paparazzi are harder to come by.

As for her personal life, in the wake of her divorce Bethenny has been staying occasionally in the upper east side home of a billionaire she claims is just a “friend.” That’s extreme luxury, not a struggle. As is a weekend jaunt down under. Must be nice.

her swimsuit bottoms look too tight around the hips and her top looks too loose. this is all i took away from these photos. her body would be smokin’ with the right swimsuit.

  2. Lisa says:

I like her figure, but not her show or stupid margarita line. She looks so much like Valerie Harper to me, it’s like being in a weird time warp!

  3. Happymom says:

Um-who the hell is she? Seriously-she was on a stupid reality show. Why are we making these people celebrities??? Ugh.

  4. bettyrose says:

Ugh really? All I see there is surgery and insecurity. That is not the figure of a well toned self confident woman.

  5. Christina says:

I don’t know who this woman is, but I don’t see an ‘enviable body’ here. I see a thin body. The two are not the same thing at all.

  6. Relli says:

Why is there a whole in her chest? Is that a shadow or bad implants?

  7. DeltaJuliet says:

Once again…the bandeau bikini top is never a good diea.

  8. Auruor says:

“and she’s writing a book about “the struggles and compromises all single moms face.”

It just cracks me up when fantastically wealthy celebrity women whine about being “single moms” because they are not currently married.

Here’s how I see it — if the child’s father is in the picture, providing support and co-parenting, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT MARRIED or together, you are not a “single parent.” I am especially short on sympathy for people like Bethanny who can afford an army of nannies and the best childcares/preschools/schools money can buy.

Get back to me when you have to work a third job to pay for the childcare during your first two jobs. When you never get to see your child because the dad took off and you’re completely on your own and struggling every day. I’ve been there, and it’s nothing like the life Bethanny leads. STFU.

  9. Dinah says:

I thought she was bulimic, not a dieter, per se.

  10. MsMileHigh says:

Too bad Skinny Girl is not Attractive Girl. She needs to invent something that works on her face.

  11. Cody says:

Actually, I don’t even find her figure that sexy, she looks like skin and bones to me. A cute one piece would have been better for her. Don’t want to sound to snarky, but I bet her talk show lasts about one season. I think she has had her 15 minutes of fame already.

  12. OriginalMe says:

Apparently she has her own towel boy?

  13. littlestar says:

Does the concave indent going on between her implants happen for all women with implants? Or just really poorly done boob jobs? Tory Spelling has the same weird indent between her boobs. How does that happen? One of my close friends has fake breasts and she doesn’t have this indent. You would never know by looking at them that they are implants, they are so pefect. I guess it pays to see a good doctor for such things!

  14. emmie_a says:

I agree! Fake starved body and skeletor-like face. I cannot stand Bethenny. She gives incredibly messed-up eating advice and isn’t nearly as healthy, enduring or *helpful* as she thinks she is.

  15. Anna says:

Under 800 with any type of movement, especially rigorous exercise is insane!
If you’re dieting you should be getting at least 1200 a day, if you exercise, more than that.
I can’t believe you’re even allowed to publish that type of bs!

  16. Jayna says:

What is going on in the middle of her boobs?

  17. Audrey says:

OMG – It looks like she has a third eye between her breasts. She is not attractive at all. Skinny does not equal pretty.

  18. Maggs says:

agree about her having bulimia jaw/cheeks. so does Selena Gomez, badly. sad.

  19. Amory says:

Thin body or not, she just strikes me as sad and insecure.

And please, a couple months after separating, she thinks she can speak to being a single mom. She may not even get custody of that kid let alone full-time custody. Her stress as a “single-mom” would probably be a lot less if she played fair with her husband. She has created a bad situation just to profit off of it – what a world this has become.

  20. Jayna says:

I guess she had a very mild concave chest, which is what it appears Tori had also. My family member has it (there is a medical term) and had to have a rod put in for two years to push it out when growing and even then it was severe enough that she is still indented in that area, just not as bad. It was beginning to press on her heart as she grew and was tired a lot and they were worried about her health as a young girl. Major operation and done at the one hospital in Virgina that people fly to from all over the world for that operation where they have the specialists.

  21. Amelia says:

Even 1200 calories may not be enough for most people. I am trying to lose weight (down 21, within 10 of my goal!) and it’s hard because I hate working out and I love my chocolate. I figured my basal metabolic rate, the rate you burn calories if you lie in bed awake and do nothing but you are still burning calories. It was 1364.

So I aimed for 1300 a day. Weight fell off, but then I started feeling cruddy. Called my old nutritionist who explained that I needed 1800 to maintain my weight if I’m just walking around being normal, and 1500 would make me lose. I adjusted, am losing and feel much better. I guess if walking the dog counts as exercise I get a little. And I take stairs over elevators whenever possible.

Eating 800 calories a day will put your body into starvation mode, mess up your metabolism and you won’t lose weight. I know because I did it, which is how I ended up with a nutritionist in the first place.

Great app for calorie counting: My Fitness Pal.

Sorry this is so long! I don’t want to look like Bethanny; I just want to be healthy.

  22. Leek says:

Bethenny’s personality came off as a bit harsh to me but I ended up liking her b/c she never seemed to gave changed. Love or hate her, she was the same personality on her show as on the housewives. I found that endearing even though initially, I hated her. Then I loved her. Now, I’m considering disliking her again. As someone who was a single mom, I am so completely insulted by the idea of her writing a book on being one herself. I’m sued there are elements that she can or will relate to but I feel it’s more empathetic than actually living it and fully understanding that life. I really hope she decides to humbly decline this next book deal.

  23. Dee Cee says:

Scary.. but she’s not hurting anyone and that’s all that matters.

  24. Babalon says:

It’s been in the blinds that she’s purging again and that her bulimia was a factor in her divorce. The Skinny Girl thing, via a bulimic, is creepy and ghoulish.

  25. TheOriginalKitten says:

She sucks for having a line of food-related products called “Skinny Girl”.

Why not call it “Healthy Girl” instead?

I feel like she’s projecting her body image issues on the rest of the female population. Everyone should be like me and boycott any product that uses the word “skinny” as a marketing ploy. Women are smarter than that.

  26. lambchops says:

Enviable body? Not. She is really really skinny.

  27. TatA says:

She is the epitome of that harsh abrasive new york attitude people tend to take on to cover up just being a vile person

  28. Aotearovian says:

I like Bethenny. I read Naturally Thin and it’s not an 800-calorie-a-day diet. She says in the book that she’s anti-calorie counting. A lot of the advice she gives is smart. She included three weeks of her own daily eating and it looked perfectly normal to me.

I get that she’s a ‘love or hate’ kind of person, but anyone who comes from what she came from and is a completely self-made person (whether you buy what she’s selling or not) gets kudos from me.

  29. Lisa says:

Sorry, but I do not envy her body (although I am no where near her weight) She does not look healthy, her boobs look abnormal, and there is something weird looking about her whole abdomen area. I may be heavier than her, but I own my body, and accept it pooches and all. I tried a few of her skinny wines and cocktails, and much prefer the real thing. Have never watched her on tv, and do not plan to.

  30. Snowpea says:

That’s where I live! My kids even did surfing lessons with that surf school. I live in an old apartment block over the beach.

The water at this time of year is soooo warm…it’s the best time of year to go swimming.

  31. Mandy says:

I can’t believe I used to like this woman. And I’m much happier with my “thick” body than I would be of her stick figure bod anyday. Give me the whole piece of bread! And seconds! :)

  32. tabasco says:

i always thought RHONY was by far the worst – like, all the RHs are mean on some level, that’s the entertainment i guess, but the NY version was just beyond. cringe-worthy mean, not fun b*tchy. and bethenny has THE MOST grating personality ever. personally, id rather have a figure that might be a bit less slender, but sexier and def w/o the implants that are almost never sexy looking. and a pretty face. salma hayek, for instance. i think a lot of men are more attracted to the old school pinup type than “the media” portrays. and definitely no guy i know finds a woman who obsesses over her body attractive. i mean, great for you if you found her interesting in some way enough to read her book, but i just dont get it myself. what on earth does she have to say that warrants a book?

  33. debisis says:

Payple. This woman is unattractive. Always and forever. The End.

  34. Aud says:

See this is what celebrity paparazzi tipping is all about. Bondi is quite a busy beach and not unless she or her team tip off these photographers, they wouldn’t know who she was from the thousands that are on the beach.
Bondi is a large beach, peak busy during days like that and it’s damned difficult to discern individual people in the water or on the sand.
How desperate for attention is Frankel?
    Must be quite desperate.
She definitely tipped off Sydney paparazzi. She is not ‘huge’ in Australia.
