Jennifer Hudson came on strong last night at the Oscars in this blue Roberto Cavalli gown, which she described as “such a pop of color out on this Academy Award red carpet.” With an exaggerated, thigh-high slit in the center of the dress, it was clear that Jennifer’s figure was part of the dramatic entrance too. I’m not crazy about this dress because of all the sequins and the oddly-shaped (animal?) print as well as the various shades of blue that all collide into a big, messy mess. This dress is just too much, I think, and the non-matchy-matchy shoes add to the effect.
Also too much? Jennifer’s musical performance (you can watch it here because I can’t bear to embed it). I agree with Kaiser that Jennifer was almost screaming, and I think that over-singing is such a diva move. Just because you can hold those notes forever doesn’t mean that you should, you know? I did dig Jennifer’s drop earrings though (not the color, just the shape), and her hair and makeup are appropriate for the occasion.
Sandra Bullock didn’t fare well at all in this attack-of-the-beads, black-and-silver, Elie Saab gown. Nothing about this dress works for me, especially not those sheer leg panels. This look seems so dated on Sandra, and her flat-ironed hair doesn’t help matters. Poor Sandy.
Queen Latifah isn’t the Queen for nothing! She was absolutely stunning in this white Bagdeley Mischka gown. The dress is so simple and has a flattering silhouette, and her main accessory (other than tasteful diamonds) was her CoverGirl lipstick (remember, she’s one of their spokespeople). I’ve had a girl crush on Latifah since her “Living Single” days, and I was delighted to see her onstage with her Chicago castmembers. More of this, please.

I can’t stand Hudson.

I’ve never liked her, either; can’t put my finger on why.

For me it’s that there is something disingenuous about her. Plus I think she got some lap band help with her weight loss which she will not admit.

Maybe because people call her vibrato, which you can ram a mack track through…singing.

For those who can’t accept that Hudson lost weight without surgery I can attest that it can most assuredly be done without lap band or other assists. In my 40s I started to gain weight and it got away from me. I was mortified and had no idea what to do since I had no experience with dieting. Doing weight watchers I lost 80 lbs and got back down to 108. I can’t think of how many people told me I’d never get my body back at that age but they were completely wrong and I looked better than ever since I added an exercise routine for the first time in my life.
So I completely believe her. It is absolutely possible and especially doable at her age

I’m so sick of her. And someone tell her to put the platforms away. They are yesterday’s news.

I, also, cannot stand Jennifer Hudson. I have no problem with anyone adding some pieces to their hair to make it a little fuller–not everyone can be born with a high density hair.
Hudson, however, always wears these extra thick wigs and/or weaves that just look RIDICULOUS esp bc they are so long and the texture is so silky. Like, come on.

im not a fan either! it may be from how obnoxious her character was in the sex and the city movie but i didnt like her before that. I actually like the dress but not for the oscars. It would be great at the grammys but i dont think its classy enough for oscar!

@monie, totally agree about the lap band!

Hudson looks like a cheetah mermaid.

Hudson is stunning. Side note, has Bullock had a nose job? Ck older photos and see what you think.

I agree, she has definitely had a nose job. I said the same thing to my fiance last night when we saw her presenting – her nose is so thin and the nostrils look like they are collapsing.

Hail to the Queen! Latifah looked gorgeous.

Didn’t like J-Hud look at all. She’s been down them hills styling wise for a while now…
Queen Latifah look simple and fabulously elegant BUUUUT the MUA should’ve toned it down on the foundation.

Queen Latifah is Queen! She looked awesome!
Sandra’s gown is so 2011. Elie Saab has much better creations that that.

+1 for Queen Latifah. Now here is a full bodied woman and she defies all convention by wearing a form fitting gown and in white no less – and STILL she comes off looking slender and elegant. THAT is what I call owning your body.
She looks fabulous and her hair, make-up and jewelry perfectly accentuate the simple and elegant lines of the dress.

Hudson’s dress id NOT doing it for me. I, however, thought Sandra Bullock looked great.I agree about the sheer panels, not my favorite, but otherwise, really like the look, straight hair and all.

Worst. Lipstick. Color. Ever.
Crayola should have a naming contest for it and include it in the next mega-box.

I really like Latifah’s makeup. It’s pretty cool with the basic dress.

Hudson is a fashion “don’t” from tip to toe. Surely she can do better? Her singing made my family hit the mute button on the remote to relieve us from the excruciating pain she seemed to be in. I hope she got the help she needed.
Latifah’s look is perfection. She can wear the h*ll out of a dress. And THAT dress is divine.
Not feelin’ it, Sandra.

Sandra Bullock needs to stop with the botox. She looked absolutely frozen when she presented and even her lips looked jacked. Ugh.

I think Jen looked just fine, it was her singing or should I say screetching that got to me. And I know she is so much better than that.

Jennifer Hudson was my second favourite look of the night!

Jennifer Hudson made my ears bleed & my poor eyes didn’t know where to go when looking at her.
Queen Latifah is my girl & can do no wrong.
Sandy very rarely gets it right. Meh.

JHud’s dress is not my favourite but it fits well so I give it a pass. As for Queen Latifah~she looks amazing!!

I think Jennifer’s shoes look alright with this look, but orange or some sort of variation on red would have been a better choice for a shoe colour. I think she’s a very beautiful woman.

Sandra Bullock could be stepping onto the red carpet to promote SPEED (the movie not the drug!). She looks so young!

So that we’re all on the same page here, ‘THAT’ is a wig Jennifer Hudson is wearing. You can tell by the texture and the sheen. Judge it by the texture of Queen Latifah’s hair ‘and’ the texture of Michelle Obama’s hair in the Featured Links box.

Wow, the Queen looked beautiful. Kudos to her.

agree, i think queen latifah looked really great. love the simple hair and the pop of color on her lips.

with all the respect (since they’re both extremly talanted!), i think adele’s performance was about the song and hudson’s was more about “showing off” the hight notes. i prefered adele.

Well, the original song from Dreamgirls was “screamed”, it’s not that she purposely oversang it…

Latifa looks lovely, and I like Sandra’s dress. Jen Hudson, no just no.

I agree with much of what’s already posted. Jennifer was just over the top with the busy dress and that performance…someone needed to tell her it wasn’t her year for an award and not try to make it about her. Bad makeup makes her look even more bug-eyed than usual. And those blue shoes? Ugh. No, just no.
Sandra, please, just stop with the tweaking. Actually she is beyond “tweaking” now, methinks. Sad.
QL looks stunning. Love the dress. Lipstick could have been toned down a bit though.

I preferred JHud but then again Patti Labelle is my favorite singer. So Im used to that type of singing.Fantasia is another favorite of mine.Different strokes….Off topic I shed a tear when I read the vulgar comment The Onion made about Quvenzhane.I was so upset and shocked she is nine years old.I guess on twitter anything goes.

J. Hud is just too much of everything. I don’t know if she’s wearing extensions or what, but the hair looks like a really bad fright wig. Just no to everything.
Queen Latifah is like a sorbet palate cleanser to look at after that. Elegant, simple, classy. She needs to teach these young-uns how to dress.

Queen Latifah is my road dog. Dress was something I would wear for serious and I can’t say that often about things worn to award shows.

Queen Latifah looks amazing as always. She is a red carpet pro, and I like her a lot.
Did not care for Jennifer Hudson’s look. She’s a pretty woman and looks great, but all the styling was bad. And she ALWAYS oversings. She has an amazingly powerful voice, but I don’t enjoy listening to her all the much.
I liked Sandra’s except for the sheer skirt. Will be glad when that trend dies.

Queen Latifa is a bigger woman and she always looks amazing. I know they are not the same size, but how is it that Melissa McCarthy can’t get it this right?

What’s up with her eyes when she sings? That is really the part that makes me cringe the most. I don’t know why, but I just find it freaky. I first noticed it during one of those WW commercials that she does.

I had to change channels because I could not listen to her awful screeching.
Why singers go off on these scream fests is beyond me and ruines it for me.
I loved the performances of Adele and Shirley Bassey who was fabulous at 76 years old.

Jhud’s hair stylist should be fired for digging through the trash and slapping one of Naomi’s castoff wigs on her head. damn shame.
Queen La looks so gorgeous, hell, i’d marry her!

Bullock’s dress & hair are not good, but maybe that’s still “in” in the Big Easy.
Hudson is a mis-matched mashup. Bad wig, earrings don’t go with the dress & shoes were a fast grab in a dark closet.
Latifah’s lipstick is not a flattering color-too blue for her skin tone.

I love, love, love Jennifer’s hair like that.

Love Sandra but not her look.
Not really loving Jennifer….tired of her ads on TV

Are y’all joking? Hud’s performance was stellar and she sang the song exactly how it had to be sung when it was written for the musical… I think she totally deserved her standing ovation!

Oh god, Jennifer Hudson has totally a drag queen look. Ugh.
I love Queen’s whole look and I like even Sandy’s, not so great but not bad either.

I am wondering what was her problem????? She looked and acted totally pissed most of the time. If I went to the Oscars, I’d have a smile on my face.

Queen Latifah looked great! And she was the only woman, in her group of presenters, who behaved normally up there…
(*cough*Renee and Catherine*cough*)
Sandra’s look = boring and lifeless
Jennifer’s look = tacky, cheap, and garish

i thought Jhud sang great. at least the orchestra didn’t overwhelm her voice (not adele’s fault, she always sounds great as well). nothing could have overwhelmed her voice.
the hair on jhud during her performance was a bit off. like smashed down in the front. distractingly terrible. this is better but still not good.
the dress she has on there is awful but the color is nice on her. still can’t decide what to think about the performance dress with the squished boobs.
the only thing nice about sandra bullock’s hair is at least she didn’t part it down the middle. the dress fit well but was meh.
queenL looked great. carpet and stage. she has a presence and if she didn’t want to be there she can act. i would never ever care for that lip color but she carried it off well.
