GoT’s Kit Harington: ‘I like a girl who eats. I much prefer that she order the burger’

Who is your favorite Game of Thrones hottie? I’ll admit, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) barely cracks my Top Ten. Although I loathe the Jamie Lannister character, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is hot. As is Peter Dinklage, Iain Glen, and Jason Momoa (God, remember how HOT he was the first season?) and one of the stand-outs last season, Joe Dempsie (Gendry, the bastard son of King Robert Baratheon). I even think Robb Stark is hotter than Jon Snow. But I guess Jon Snow is the Teen-Beat crush of choice amongst lots of ladies who love GoT. He has dark curly hair and puppy eyes. He’s the Harry Styles of Game of Thrones. And as such, Kit has started participating in the fan-girly media. Kit did an interview with Glamour and I swear, these questions are straight out of Teen Beat!

Glamour: If you could create the perfect night out, how would it go?
Kit Harington: You don’t want to seem too eager, too romantic—otherwise, it just looks a bit tryhard. But I do think a first date should be intimate. So I’d choose a nice dinner somewhere cozy, not too crowded, with good wine.

Glamour: What’s the worst type of food you’ve ever had on a date?
KH: I chose a really bad restaurant once. It was masquerading as good French cuisine, and it was dreadful. But I think as long as you acknowledge that you know it’s bad, then it’s all good.

Glamour: What are the parallels between you and your character?
KH: We’re both anxious people. Jon worries a lot, and he’s always concerned about the future.

Glamour: What about him is least like you?
KH: He’s a real warrior. He can kill people. I’m not as adept with the sword in real life.

Glamour: On Game of Thrones you wear linebackerlike furs. Does it take you long to get ready?
KH: A good 45 minutes. Basically, you’re tied into this costume. I don’t drink too much water!

Glamour: So Jon is now about to get some action, and we can’t wait to see how his tumultuous relationship with Ygritte [played by Rose Leslie] turns out. If they were a real-life couple in modern day, what do you think they’d do differently in their relationship?
KH: [Laughs.] I think they’d be exactly the same. She’d still be taking the piss out of Jon, and Jon would still be getting angry about it. And secretly quite enjoying it.

Glamour: Is there anything that a woman can do on a date that will seal the deal for a second one?
KH: She’s got to be funny. I like a girl who does not take me seriously, you know? It’s important to be able to laugh at each other. And I like a girl who eats. I much prefer that she order the burger.

[From Glamour]

Kit comes across really well here. He seems like a decent enough guy, and I’m glad he’s not all “I’m a huge star now, you can’t talk to me like that.” Maybe it helps that he’s not really a big star, he’s a mediocre actor playing a character that people really respond to. I’ll admit it – I wasn’t loving the endless banter between Jon and Ygritte last season. If they’re going to have sex and have some kind of relationship, I hope they get to it quickly this season instead of drawing it out with sexual tension. Clearly, Ygritte is up for it. Jon is too, if only he would admit it. I think Ygritte needs to take charge of the situation. Hopefully it will be hot. But if they don’t get to it right away, Ciarán Hinds is just going to steal every scene away from Kit this season.

  1. Andrea says:

I’m not really into Jon Snow on his own but I do think Ygritte is compelling with him. I enjoyed the banter. Rose Leslie is such a naturally pretty woman.

He seems like a nice guy.

  2. J. says:

This guy is so boring and seems incapable of making more than two facial expressions. He took one of my favorite characters from the book and just turned him into a big old dullard.

  3. Yellowshaba says:

John Snow is my least favorite character too but only because I think Kit doesn’t really have a broad range acting wise . i think He’s really boring to watch. I just watched him in another movie Silent Hill And he was the same boring boring boring…

    • GoodCapon says:

He’s arguably on the top 5 fan favorite characters in the series. He’s a good kid, a bit angsty in the books but it’s okay. His story really picks up in book 3 (this season and the next).

The problem is either the script can’t do Jon justice and/or Kit can’t portray the character well.

      • Mag says:

I didn’t care for Jon until the middle of book 3. I could not stand how whiny and obsessed with his bastard status he was. So far Kit is playing the character pretty much exactly how the character is in the book. I hope Kit and the writers get Jon’s character develop right throughout this and next season.

      • GoodCapon says:

Me too! Do you think his insecurity over his bastard status would have been lessened had Catelyn been nicer to him? She was always cold to him and the “It should have been you” line (re: Bran) was a knife through the heart.

Did anyone notice how he and Richard Madden were bumped up several places in the opening credits? Without giving too much spoilers, they’re going to play huge parts this season.

      • Isabell says:

He’s one of favorites as well. He usually takes up for the weak and that is always attractive to me. Think of all the sons, even though he’s the ‘basterd’ he’s more like Ned than the other sons.

    • mom2two says:

I don’t think Kit is all that great as an actor, but he does come across like a very nice guy and down to earth.
As for the I like the girl that eats the burger, nice comment, but he is rumored to be dating Rose Leslie (Ygritte) who looks like she should eat a few burgers.

I will say out of the GoT cast, he and Emilia Clarke get way too much attention when they have more attractive and talented co-stars.

  4. Amanda says:

People want to control even the things that I eat, and about that guy, one word: boring.

    • Buckwild says:

+1 I don’t hear that many women that say “my guy has to order the burger. I like a man that eats” in this way…it’s just pandering to his insecure female fans, unoriginal line, think of something else!!

      • LizEJ says:

Not only that, he probably prefers girls who eat as long as they’re fit and skinny. I hate guys who say that.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Exactly, Liz. He isn’t saying that he wants a girl that looks like she eats a burger!

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Liz: yep, that’s always the catch! They want you to dive on the nachos to show the world how above ut all you are, but you had better look like a supermodel when you are in bed!

      • Emily says:

        Liz, you read my mind.

      • LittleDeadGirl says:

THANK YOU! You so read my mind. I hate when guys say that … it’s up there with “I don’t like a girl who wears too much make up … look natural”. Basically the two things mean just look perfect all the time but I don’t want to know how you do it …

    • Skesis says:

I agree with all of you. This rubbed me the wrong way.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

What is offensive is the presumption that everything a woman does, wears, eats, etc. is first and foremost about pleasing men. She should eat a burger because he likes that. Then she should work out like crazy, but in secret because she has to be skinny for him– not just skinny, but *effortlessly* so. As nauseum. And of course everything is open to comment.

I admit I am hypersensitive on this topic, having lived in a country where my female students would be stopped on the street during Ramadan and forced to remove their makeup because somebody wasn’t pleased.

      • Happyhat says:

Oh thank God, that comment really urked me too!

Like, you like it when women eat burgers, good for you – I’m gonna eat what I want…

  5. Maurysgirl says:

I disagree. He is a decent actor and he is cute. And lots of the men deemed hot here are suspect to me. We can chalk it up to differences in preferences, but this was a bit harshly written about Kit. Yes the other men are hot, too, but it doesn’t have to be all or nothing,

  6. mkyarwood says:

Haven’t we heard this before from every other dude? The only one I’ll believe is Henry Cavill.

  7. Barrett says:

I love him. He’s hot. Major crush. Glad some of you don’t think so, I can have him all to my self!

  8. magz says:

    Oh Kit Harrington,

I would do so many dirty things to you.

Call me. I’ll order the burger!

  9. Lexi says:

Ok… So you know how some people irrationally hate Anne Hathaway’s face? I’m kind of like that with Kit Harrington. His face just pisses me off. I can’t… even explain why.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah I’m getting that here too. I also irrationally hate Andrew Garfield’s face.

Also, I know it’s unfair in the sense that I think guys can never win with this sort of thing, but I hate when guys say that they like a girl that can eat. Especially because the guys that say that usually have pin-thin girlfriends. It’s like they want a chick that can eat like a dude but still be in great shape. In short, STFU please.

      • Joanna says:

I love it when a guy tells me that. Cause I love to eat. And I am far from stick-thin. I’ve never once had one of those guys tell me I’m too big. It’s actually the opposite, in my experience. They like a girl with some meat on her bones.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Um, maybe I’d buy it if he was dating a girl who was 20-30 lbs overweight but every Hwood actor that makes statements like this inevitably dates a skinny-ass actress. So if she eats a burger one night to make him happy but then eats salads the rest of the time so she can be skinny enough then how is that a positive, really?

  10. jaymie says:

I think he’s awesome, i love his personality and i love him as Jon Snow. Such a hottie!

  11. embertine says:

Ugh, I am so sick of men saying they like a girl who eats. What they mean is that they like a girl who eats but remains thin, without being overtly bulimic. It’s just like them saying they like the “natural look”, when what they mean is they want (and think they deserve) a woman who looks like a fully made-up supermodel, but without wearing any actual make-up.

Grow up, boys. If we eat burgers all the time we get fat. If you want us to be slim we can’t eat a lot of junk food. You can’t have it both ways.

    • moon says:

      +100

I agree absolutely with you. I’m sick of guys who insist they hate women who push food around the plate, then make fun of women who are ‘fat’.

      • TeresaKansas says:

Statements such as this deserve ridicule. And it’s full of irony as well. Like you said, women can’t win. Nothing but sexism and patriachy at it’s best. Comments like this reek of misogyny, this guy has revealed he is jerk.

    • Maude says:

My thoughts exactly! Precisely what I was thinking when I read that quote and whenever other actors say similar things. It actually makes me take him less seriously.

    • GoodCapon says:

      +200!

    • jamie says:

      Completely agree.

    • Joanna says:

so you would rather him say he likes a girl who doesn’t eat? what’s wrong with saying he likes a girl that eats? I’ve gotten told that by guys several times and I take it as a compliment. Plus, i know the guy that says it isn’t going to be one of those a**hole guys who freaks out if their woman gains 5 pounds. I think you guys are overreacting. Besides you can eat burgers and not get fat. It’s called moderation and working out. so you can have it both ways, eat and be skinny. not 100 pounds skinny, but in shape.

      • Annette says:

+100! Whenever a guy tells me I’m a big eater it’s a huge compliment for me.

It IS entirely about moderation. You can eat plenty of burgers and fries and stay slim, you only get fat if you eat a burger as a “snack” and then eat several other big meals in one day.

    • megan says:

HALLELUJAH! I have nothing to add here since you’ve said it all 🙂

  12. Harpreet says:

I miss Rose Leslie on Downton!

  13. Gwen says:

Jon Snow is one of my favorites and Kit is very cute IMO. A babyface though so he doesn’t quite do it for me, ha ha 😀

  14. Myrto says:

He has a baby face and looks like he’s twelve. And that’s not hot to me. I want a man, not a boy. Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) and his voice any day over that dude.
Also agree with other posts about the “I like a girl who eats”. Yeah, right.
    * eyeroll*
I also think he has a very limited range as an actor (either, he’s pouting, or he’s pouting).

    • TG says:

I agree, though I fell in love with Jon Snow in the first season, but once he got to the wall he got boring. I was in love with Ned Stark, beard and all and now with his son Rob, at least until he married that boring chick. I also only started watching the series because of Iain Glen’s voice. His voice alone is enough for me. Peter Dinklage is throwing out all kinds of hotness too. I love a smart guy over a hunk any day of the week, and he is handsome anyway. At first I thought Jon Snow and the Khaleesi should get together but she is annoying me right now since she has no values anymore.

    • GoodCapon says:

      Iain Glen… (sigh)

  15. Cathy says:

I just started watching it the other day when HBO had a marathon on, my husband got me into it. So I am still totally confused with all it’s twists and turns. It’ll take me a while to get caught up on it. But I find him to be an interesting but somewhat weak character. He needs to toughen up. He is kind of cute though.

  16. ashley says:

Mediocre actor that is kinda rough but I do think he seems like the boyfriend.

  17. Tiffany says:

Good call on Peter Dinklage. Saw him on The Daily Show last week and felt something tingle down below. That man just has….it.

  18. epiphany says:

I agree with Kaiser – Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is hot – the long legs, square jaw, I even like the broken nose – very masculine. Kit seems sweet, like a puppy, but IMO he doesn’t inspire lustful thoughts. I think he’s playing his character very angsty, someone who worries constantly – and that’s why Jon Snow always looks like he’s going to cry. Don’t want to be a spoiler, but I will say, for those who haven’t read the novels, Jon Snow’s situation at the Wall changes drastically, so you may see Kit expand his emoting a bit.

  19. Mew says:

Dudes have this problem – they want girls to eat burgers AND to look like Victoria’s Secret lingerie models with round asses and flat stomach at the same time. Impossible. If I ate burger each time I wanted, I’d look like Beth Ditto. Which is fine, but not many dudes find that so awesome. So, it causes either bulimia or intense self hating. And thus, my point is, there’s no frikking point trying to please dudes anyway. I eat a burger if I want to and carrot sticks if I want to. Suck it up boy.

  20. MollyB says:

Weren’t they a couple in real life? I thought I remembered reading that last year?

    • epiphany says:

Paps in London snapped them having dinner together once – don’t know if that means romance or just colleagues having a meal. Don’t see much chemistry in their real-life interactions (unlike the show) so who knows?

  21. TeresaKansas says:

Why would or should any man critique what a woman eats, what a tedious person. A misogynistic attempt to put women down as per their behaviors. I would think he has been rejected too too many times by the ‘type’ he seeks here to vilify.

  22. TeresaKansas says:

Women do this, too. But for different reasons.

  23. Joanna says:

I can’t believe people are upset at a guy saying he likes a girl that eats. Would you prefer him to say he likes a girl that eats only salad with no dressing? geez.

    • TeresaKansas says:

The 1800’s are calling, they want you back!

    • TeresaKansas says:

      All women “eat”.

    • TeresaKansas says:

And you comment shows you are judging others by why they eat. What right do you have to dictate to others, you are just as bad as he is-or worse. Worry about yourself, and myob!

    • Chordy says:

Or we could just stop evaluating women by their eating habits all together.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Exactly. The easiest solution is for men to acknowledge that women are tired of hearing how we should/shouldn’t eat and that it’s up to us to decide what’s right for our bodies.

    • J. says:

He clearly intended it to be nice and reassuring, even if it was misguided, so going batshit (looking at you Teresa) is a silly reaction.

  24. Jen34 says:

People are criticizing him because he says he likes a girl who eats. Know what? I hate when I go to dinner with my girlfriends and they don’t eat. Starve yourself all day, but if you are going out with me, have a drink, eat and split a dessert or something.
I don’t see why everyone is reading so much into the comment.

    • TG says:

@Jen34 – I had to laugh at your comment about splitting a dessert because I can’t stand when my friends forego dessert or fries and think they will share mine. No way. Get your own and stop trying to act delicate. I won’t even order certain things with those friends because I can’t stand sharing my food with them. But, I get your sentiment!

  25. TeresaKansas says:

I can see that some just don’t ‘get it’. Perhaps a little maturity along life’s journey will help. If you care whether/what another person eats (unless they are truly harming themselves), the YOU have a problem and need to do some honest self-sssess

  26. TeresaKansas says:

    … honest self-assessment.

  27. Lisa says:

Ew. I avoid people like him.

  28. Whatwhatnot says:

As a tomboy who grew up around tons of male friends, I took his burger comment to mean that, much like my male friends, they hate to take a girl out to dinner and they eat like birds to attempt to look dainty or “proper” and appreciate a girl who can dig in and enjoy the meal along with them and it makes them feel more comfortable around their date. They say it comes across fake and pretentious. I have no qualms about ordering a hearty meal on a date either. If I didn’t feel comfortable eating on a dinner date with a guy, I wouldn’t even bother dating him again.

As for Kit, I think he is “pretty”. A little on the baby face side, like he’s retaining too much water, but cute. He plays the character of Jon Snow to the “t”. That is how he comes across in the little bit of the book I have read so far. All sullen, but as I have heard and some have mentioned here, his character gets a huge boost this season. His story line has so much potential. I would like to see him and Khaleesi get together.

  29. bluhare says:

OK, my husband has just turned into a Game of Thrones junkie, and I had to order HBO. (got a deal thru comcast that actually saves us $50 a month!). So is it as violent as I’ve heard? I hate beheadings, torture and all that. Do I want to watch it? Is it worth it for Jason Momoa or Ciaran Hinds?

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I tried but I just could NOT get into this show. That being said, I’m the only one of my friends that doesn’t like it. I might give it a second go but…I just hate that time period and all the dudes on the show look the same—so confusing trying to keep track of the characters.

      Eh, just not my thing.

    • TG says:

Yes it is worth it and I am sort of a weakling so I just turn my head away when someone is getting beheaded or tortured or whatever and then I move on. I also just tell myself it is a movie and I love the meaning behind this show. Too me the guys on her are so hot it is worth it just for that. But, I agree with the commenter below, I get very confused with who is who. I finally got a grip on the who the main characters are but whenever they show some old white haired man and everyone around knows who he is I am always like who is that? Also, I can never tell who is fighting for the Lannister camp vs the Starks vs the Greyjoys, etc.

    • GoodCapon says:

The show suffers from sexposition, ham-fisted dialogue and wooden acting sometimes. Still, it is very much worth it and I say go for it!

  30. Zvonk says:

I thought he was attractive in the show. Not at all attractive here though. Shame

  31. hatsumomo says:

Im kinda anticipating Jon and Ygritte getting it on. There is a lot of “lord’s kisses” going on in the books if you know what Im mean. 😉

  32. Isa says:

I hate when people care about what I eat or what I don’t eat. My husband pulls that crap. He wants me to eat what he’s eating and as much as he does. Then he doesn’t want to hear me bitch about gaining weight. Once he mad fun of his ex for weighing a certain amount, I’m five lbs away from it. It’s going to be that scene from How to lose a guy in 10 days when I get home. “I can’t eat in front of you!!”
I’m getting pissed off just thinking about it.
Now if you date someone and they order a salad and pick off your plate, then of course you have the right to be annoyed.

  33. KellyinSeattle says:

C’mon , Kit, and we’ll get a couple of Big Macs.

  34. gefeylich says:

Oh, my god, not only is this guy terrible as Jon Snow on GoT, he’s a sanctimonious liar. Shut up, Lox.

I mean, I hate Lena Headey but have to admit she’s good as the batshit crazy Cersei, but Harrington is awful as Jon, one of my favorite characters in SOIAF. He’s just so dull and colorless.

Who the hell did Harrington do to get this role? Of all the really great young actors in the UK, this zero is who they pick for the role? Bleh. He’s the only real misfire in an otherwise great cast.

  35. buckley says:

    M’kay Mr.Fathands!

  36. Amy says:

I’ve already book 3 so I know what to expect from Ygritte’s and Jon’s relationship. 😀 The actress who plays Ygritte does a great job of driving Jon crazy, though in the book the repeating “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” got old pretty fast. I still have two episodes of season 2 to finish (but I pretty much know what to expect thanks to the books).

I agree that Kit Harrington makes a very dull Jon Snow, who is one of my favorite characters in the books. I prefer Robb Stark over him and I didn’t really care for Robb’s storyline in the books (mostly because it was from his mother’s perspective, we never get Robb’s perspective ever. And I’m not the hugest fan of Catelyn Stark in the books).

    • GoodCapon says:

      I agree with everything!

How many times has TV-Ygritte said “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” already? Just once I think. I hope they don’t use it freely.

  37. Debbie says:

James Franco + Seth Rogen = Kit Harington.
